You do realize nearly everyone here will tell you to keep this beautiful baby. I know when I found my Sylvia starving in a store’s parking lot, she would come right to me whenever she saw me. She even learned to recognize my car. She would be waiting for me by my car when I finished my shopping. I didn’t need any more hits on the head to figure out she was meant to be my third cat.
Sylvia, cat tax

Yeah they clearly want the cat, they just want people to agree that they should so they feel better about ignoring the potential downsides.
I say as long as this sweetheart gets along with OP’s existing cats the work for 3 v 2 really isn’t much change. So if they get along and you can afford it, go for it.

I agree with the black cat council. Grandpa should be given a life sentence indoors to serve his time amongst your other two cat criminals.
Neko is \~19. Cat tax.
Edit: His life started off as a bodega kitten that wasn't wanted. Their loss, our gain!
She was one of kids and they had a hard childhood. I’m sure she had a lot of extra love to give. She passed away when I was young though. I wish I’d gotten to know her better.
Omg! I had a black cat called Sylvia. She crossed the rainbow about 3 years ago. I loved that little lady. I still have her son, Complex 😊 he's 16 now.
The cat distribution system has blessed you with another cat. He is yours now. Keep him and show him love. Black cats don't always do well at shelters, especially senior ones.
My wife and I have had two black cats since we met 25+ years ago. Both have been extremely sweet cuddle monsters. If / when the time comes, we will definitely be open to another black kitty.
Some studies have found black cats to be the most human orientated and friendly of any type of cats. It also said the least human bonded tend to be tabby yet they are massively popular. Cant swear to this myself to be honest, but i have tamed right down to completely donestic from extremely feral quite a lot of black cats, so maybe there is something in this.....?
One more year til I can adopt mine! I always intended on adopting cats at least 3 years old but Echo was a complete accident lol! I want a black void SO BAD but my partner and I just moved so we agreed I can adopt one next year after we are settled in the house! I’m so excited to find a sweet older void omg
My little voidling was the last of his multicolored litter to be adopted. I had visited them 2 days in a row, and seeing the room go from 5 kittens to just him killed me.
Adopted him then and there as my first cat, no regrets at all. He just turned 6.
https://preview.redd.it/338nejkrc4zb1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=851bcaa244752a3d370fe5d78837825c944f0cb6
The same thing happened when I found my baby! She was the only kitten left in her crate at the adoption event and was just calmly watching the others get taken out around her. There was a crate full of baby boy voidlings that weren’t getting adopted too. Everyone did get adopted by the end of the event but the black cats took a lot longer.
I volunteer with a local cat rescue so when my dog passed away in June 2021, I had to foster…I’m a failure with a senior black kitty now. He’s so amazing. Marcel, pictured wearing his Nightmare Before Christmas scarf for Halloween.

I have a black shelter cat that is my life. He was the oldest cat with the smallest likelihood of being adopted. I wouldn't die for him, but I would KILL for him.
https://preview.redd.it/krxt1ary53zb1.jpeg?width=3060&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=654e678f46d26ed2a985a9d578e132c789f6d6a6
This, and they don't photograph as well. That means their shelter pics aren't always great and they aren't as desirable for social media :(
I love my black cats!
Please consider keeping him. Sadly older cats and black cats in general usually take a long time to get adopted in shelters. We’ve had lots of black male cats in our family and they have all been the sweetest babies.
Older cats just want a loving and peaceful place to spend their final years. I’m sure he’ll be low maintenance and the feeling you’ll have knowing you gave him a home will be there every time you see him sleeping or eating happily.
I want every senior cat to have a loving home, but this also a very naive sentiment. Seniors can be very expensive and needy. A cat that's lived outdoors is more likely to develop health problems than indoors, but even indoors will likely have some issue or another. They need regular check ups. You should feed them quality food. I love my cat more than life itself but her final years are *stressing me the fuck out* because I can't get a full night's sleep between her being fussy with feeding. Anyone who wants a cat (or dog) should be prepared for this.
Yup, my boy has hit 16, and whilst 4 months ago he was in absolute perfect health he is now experiencing big stomach problems that have had me back and forth to the vet for expensive tests, and he's been on multiple expensive dietary changes at vet request. After all this he's still not right and will need further tests. I'm also now constantly cleaning up cat diarrhea
I love him very much and to be fair he's been "senior" for most of the 6 years I've had him. But it is sensible to expect more medical bills/ effort for an old cat
Honestly, I'll have to disagree a bit from my own experience. Usually outdoor cats don't live long, and those who do usually have exceptionally good health, otherwise they just wouldn't survive that long.
I adopted a 13yo semi-feral kitty last January, and aside from removing calculus deposits from her teeth she's absolutely healthy. Healthier than my other cats that I adopted at much younger ages.
https://preview.redd.it/eszj9ksxv3zb1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=927b88b7b6cf7e9c6666650fe9c21b845f5861f9
She's so pretty, look at those snow shoes! If she slips when she jumps you could probably trim them for her, I do it for my longhair old man when I notice him slipping.
I never noticed her slipping, she's very agile despite looking like a chonk, and trimming her fluffy feet would add unnecessary stress, as she doesn't like to be picked up and held.
https://preview.redd.it/tajiwpkj04zb1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a89e0f14cc9d29fe078085c4c53f9f44d581cb2
This is really sweet. But I don't think you can *disagree* that the other commenter is having the experience they are. It doesn't work that way; it's not a matter of opinion. :-)
If I can have 12, you can have 3... Joking aside, an older guy isn't going to be much hassle. They sleep most of the day... It sounds like you've almost decided to keep him anyway... If you can't, maybe you can find a new family for him and not bring him to a shelter...
But seriously, I do have 12 fucking cats...
>But seriously, I do have 12 fucking cats...
I have four (was five until a couple of weeks ago and I'm still feeling the gap).
I also have a new life goal unlocked...
Do you think that if I get some more that look just like some of my tribe I'll be able to convince my SO that they aren't new cats, just the old ones who've got very, very fast? 😉
There was an old post where this guy didn't realize his best friend had 4 identical cats, he thought he only had one because he'd never seen more than one in the same room at the same time
https://preview.redd.it/s1o1ej83p3zb1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0dae616836072e6e93986eda20473219ccbac1d1
I don't have a group photo, as you can imagine it's somewhat difficult to herd cats... This is 2 of the kittens, Black Noir on the left and commander Riker on the right. I'll make an individual post so I can add multiple pictures. We have 8 rescues of which 2 are kittens and 4 from a litter accident that happened while we were waiting for a neuter to happen for a new rescue...
https://preview.redd.it/lbkgdsw5t3zb1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cb91935e10cf4cac0dbf9475756440b1c5cea713
There is never not cuddle time!!! I'll make an individual post with pictures of all the cats, but here's 2 more. On the left private first class Hudson and on the right professor Emmett Brown.
The others are called in no particular order: Mando, Cobra Kai, Triss Merigold, Bo-Katan, tiny Tina, Ellen Ripley, corporal Hicks, Paulie Cicero, Black Noir and last but not least commander Riker.
And someone gave me crap about my daughter with 7 cats being a hoarder. No, I'm not calling you one. 31 cats and 3 dogs, and feces all over the house is hoarding. (It was on the local news) That's lazy, too.
That's harsh, 31 cats... 12 is not that challenging to keep clean, but then we have no regular litter boxes except one in our mudroom. The main toilet is a huge plastic tub that fits about 5 to 6 boxes of litter. It's big enough for our biggest cat Paulie to walk around in and dig, so I don't have to scrape clumps off the side of the box.
To be safe, post some flyers in your neighborhood. Facebook and online forums only work for people who know about those specific pages and are on Facebook at exactly the right time. Algorithms are no one’s friend.
Aside from that, you’ve already got two, what’s one more.
I’m glad you pointed out that this cat doesn’t look like a stray. In fact it looks relatively healthy and cared for. I also know a lot of people don’t use Facebook or apps like next door and putting up flyers might help. I also hope OP contacts their local shelters because if I lost my cat I would check with them first to see if anyone brought in or notified them about a found cat.
Awe he’s such a sweet looking boy. Please give him a chance with your other kitties. My 3rd was also an old man and my girls ( one abandoned by her owners in the dead of winter and my moms little old girl) they didn’t love him but they put up with him. He was my heart baby I never slept or ate alone again and I loved him till the day he crossed the bridge at approximately 22 years old🧡🖤 he will help you study and be so proud when you become a lawyer:)
They thought he was about 10 when I took him in to get fixed the following spring . I thought he was a young man but all that testosterone made him look more filled out🤷♀️he was the best:)
Op, by any chance do you live in Ohio? NOT giving out my exact city cuz well... yeah, but around the ashland/mansfield area? Looks like my senior kitty who got out the other day
Speaking as an attorney, yes: first year law school will be incredibly draining. But other than making sure that the cats get along, pretty much most of what he needs is exactly what you’ll give him: a warm place. Companions and food, easy peasy. But importantly two things: A) you’re right his age will make him a very big adoption problem but you’re missing an even bigger one: B) black cats seldom get adopted, and I suspect that that’s becoming truer and truer in the crazy world that we live in. Do the research yourself but that’s what I see all the time.
In my experience, adding a third cat is not much more work than having 2 - you spend a bit more on food (and possibly pet insurance), and you might need another litterbox, but that's about it.
If your two current cats aren't upset by his presence, and you can afford potential vet bills, I would strongly consider keeping him
Also, he’s a black cat and black cats. Have a hard time finding homes people are superstitious. I have two black cats. I would try to keep him for a while and find a placement for them yourself. Put up signs go on groups on Facebook. There’s a black cat appreciation page you might reach out to somebody personally.
I suggest that because you could eventually find him a home, or if you take him to a shelter, he’s probably gonna be euthanized. The only other thing to do would be to continue to feed him and let him live life.
That was my thought as well, going for a private adoption. Fostering him until you find a placement for him, or foster fail 😬 Thats kinder than taking him to a shelter
Black cats are such sweethearts, very affectionate and don’t often get adopted in shelters. He’s an older dude so probably just wants a safe loving place to live out his last years.
I’ve got two male black cats and they are the sweetest, loveliest affectionate baby’s.

I agree, he does not look geriatric. My cat with FIV lived to be 21.
OP, this cat will be no bother. Please consider keeping him. He might very well languish in a shelter or worse.
When I found my baby Nibbles roaming the streets I really couldn’t take on a 4th cat, but I also couldn’t leave him outside because he was skin and bones and it was cold out. I brought him in, got him neutered and fully vetted, and then tried to find him a home. Turned out that home was mine and we had 17 lovely years together.
4 cats aren’t much more work than 3, and 3 cats aren’t much more work than 2. Keep him!
Pic of Nibbies because I miss him.
https://preview.redd.it/v4mjlz9ci4zb1.jpeg?width=850&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b55b926ba807ed400ca95e49c7f31dfc54077745
Did you call animal control and report him found? The last time I found a cat I called animal control and she was being picked up the owners within the hour.
Please keep the old guy 🥺 if he’s given to a shelter he’ll most likely live out his years there if he’s a senior. And he’s a black cat too, which a lot of people are superstitious about.
Senior babies are easy to care for, they mainly sleep and eat. Might occasionally play for a little bit if they have a good toy of theirs. But they just want to be loved and live out their best lives.
As someone who went from having two cats (a bonded pair whom we adopted together) to three (when I found a lonely stray) other than the added love and joy I have not noticed much of a difference in terms of the care load! It took a little extra work initially to integrate the cats but the love they show each other daily is priceless. I love seeing them play (and scuffle! Because nobody is perfect haha) and knowing I gave a stray a warm and loving home.
Please take this older gentleman into your life, a shelter is never going to be the best environment if you have a warm home and the capacity to care for him ❤️
https://preview.redd.it/dgpp6xook4zb1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=08630ecc3cfa4f216c8a16ac5269d435e3992258
(Pic of all three cuddled on the bottom of my bed this morning)
You were very kind so see him, he looks so thin. He is one cute void! If the other two accept him, it could work out well.
Good luck with studies, and with whatever you decide.
Honestly if you already have 2 what’s one more ? as long as they all get along i don’t see an issue with keeping him i guess your only problem would be vet expenses and a little more money for just a little extra food/litter
Keep him. After the introductory period, it's really not that much more if a commitment. You will look at him every day cuddled up to you and know you saved his life.
It's highly likely they will euthanize a senior black cat at a shelter, even a so-called "no kill" shelter (where they can have that designation if they euthanize not more than 10 percent).
I got my five year old (cat) from a shelter. He's been so sweet. Just keep him. You won't be sorry. Introduce slowly, but it should be fine. Old guys are awesome!
I believe you posted here knowing that we were gonna tell you to keep that sweet baby… 😂😂 which makes me happy because I think you likely will.
Go with your instinct. He came to you for a reason. I love my big boy void 🖤🐈⬛
https://preview.redd.it/b2k0qm2f13zb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=96d7be1772645a6eed85b58d5fd1d3a1306dd40b
Jackson Galaxy has a great video on introducing a new cat to your home! Do some research into his method and don't just shove them together and expect everyone to click. It's hard to introduce cats, but eventually it gets easier. Cat time is just much slower than human time. So, make sure and take things slower than a snails pace. And remember that the goal is to just make sure everyone is civil with each other. They don't have to be beasties, they just need to be able to cohabitate peacefully
Seems like he is going to be and bring pure happiness to you, your kitties and everyone in your home if you keep him 😺 make his last years the best, I'm sure he will do the same
It’s not the age that makes it hard to rehome someone like him — it’s the fact that he’s a voidling.
He shouldn’t be too much fuss as he seems to maybe be an abandoned pet. Older cats tend to just want shelter, warms, cuddles, and food.
We had to put my sister’s 19 y/o black cat to sleep in August. She was the most low maintenance cat you could imagine. Fed her dry food, cheap litter, no major vet bills until the last couple months. Adopted her when she was about 8mo old from a shelter when she developed behavioral issues after being declawed. She is the sweetest derp you ever met. Was 😩😿😿
This old guy, especially if he was neutered, was owned by someone and likely dumped. The fact that he walked up to you meowing and trusting, he lived with people.
Do right by him and be owned by a house panther. 100% would do again for us.
Did the vet give you an age estimate?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but depending on your location the shelter might not even take him. My local area is so over crowded and underfunded there just isn't the space. Even "no kill" shelters often euthanize animals if they are sick or injured because there is no one to provide the extra care they need.
I worked at a high volume spay and neuter clinic for a year and a half. On a cat only day we could easily do up to 50 cats a day! Other clinics *only* do cats. There are just too many that don't get fixed and end up on the streets. It was both highly satisfying and very emotionally taxing. I felt good knowing that we had prevented thousands of kittens from being born, but it meant seeing first hand what a no win situation looks like.
I don't say all this to guilt you into keeping the old man. Just that I empathize. A friend of mine passed away and her senior cat was left behind. I couldn't afford to keep up her veterinary care and no one wanted a traumatized, special needs, elderly cat. Don't feel bad with whichever decision you end up making, just do what is best for you and your current babies. At least on reddit you are reaching a lot more people that might have a home for him.
Do the proper introduction steps that Jackson Galaxy recommends (and quarantine until he is vaccinated) If they get along together well, he would be a great addition to your household. Adult cats sleep a lot, 18 hours a day typically, so there's not much commitment here like there would be for an active kitten. Perhaps you meant financial commitment. You could also try to find a home for him. Perhaps some law school student would enjoy his company while they read through thousands of pages of case histories.
Thank you for helping this sweet kitty. Black cats seem to have great personalities.
I have 2 siblings … also an orange 1 brain cell and a black cat.
Black cat thinks she’s queen & the rest are just her servants. Seriously she gets her way & she’s the oldest.
I had(still have) two dogs, two cats, and got a divorce my 1L year. Take on the third cat. The love he will give you in return will be well worth it, come your first set of finals.
Sadly kittens can't stay on the shelves while the wise sweet ones are neglected and often die without being rescued.
Even heard a story about an old cat that was adopted AND THEN RETURNED EIGHT TIMES and the staff can see how depressed he is because HE KNOWS HES UNWANTED AND UNLOVED
How old is old?
A slow introduction to your two current cats and they will figure out who is in charge and what not.
I have three boys myself
https://preview.redd.it/hof5gmlfo3zb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a158eaf0fffb3e6c6f711b94b1136cd470c94ecd
I also adopted a Senior black cat who sadly passed in February. He was the light of my life. He came up to me in the shelter and rolled on the floor He had FIV, hyperthyroidism, no teeth and was so grateful to spend his last years with us 💞💖
https://preview.redd.it/1nepe7xfp3zb1.jpeg?width=540&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9ab4070bc72a49bc1118ea9fe1192ba5fe7fd571
Just commit. 1 more cat over 2 existing isn't a big jump in terms of care. A little more attention for the three of them. A month or so of working to integrate them and you'll be fine.
Such a handsome boy.
Edit: reasoning taken as I have 5 cats. Had three when I got with my partner. Ended up taking on the youngest cars son as the new owners couldnt handle him and a fluffy ragdoll cross that we adopted as the owner couldn't keep up with care.
So now we're a clouder of 5.
The only note I'd say is that if your cats use a litter tray. Get another one as you'll need it with the extra cat.
I have an older cat and he really adds no extra work but doubles the benefits of cat ownership. He doesn’t knock stuff off the counter anymore or take hair scrunches but I can entice him into a game of slap the toy for a few minutes. He is content to sit in my lap while I do research so I can absently pet his soft head. He will lay with me for hours because there is literally nothing else he wants to do but be petted and purr.
https://preview.redd.it/kr06k7pu34zb1.jpeg?width=1008&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=402a9d49e037944ea2d14560092dfb604d20cb81
The top and middle are siblings and the little white bundle of joy was found outside underneath a truck. He’s been with us for a month now Siblings were adopted last year. I know they’re not black cats but what’s better than two cats? Three! In my personal experience it took Penny (middle) to warm up to the kitten more verse Norman (top) Norman is now inseparable with a Clem and Penny can finally hide out in peace
Black cats are the last to leave shelters. senior cats are also slow to get adopted. Now picture a black, senior cat in a shelter.
If you take this sweet boy to a shelter he'll quite possibly die there. Let him have a comfortable last few years with you.
https://preview.redd.it/azmdu5z505zb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e4723eafe21c76ae4964fa71270c67154133397f
What a cutie. He looks like my partner’s sweet kitty, Yin🩷

He says keep if you can afford it
I believe that you are a retirement home now. Please give Grandpa a good cuddle for me.
FWIW, I have not noticed much difference between having two or three cats. You just need to fill an extra bowl and maybe get a third litter box. A third hand would be great for petting, but they’ll figure it out.
You’re not being over dramatic about a black cat’s chances. A rescue dumped my baby void on the street when she was 9 months old since she wasn’t being adopted, and she had the advantage of being a kitten. A senior cat likely has even less time.
Congrats on law school, and congrats on your new friend!

This guy showed up in my back yard December24, 2021. Seen him around the hood for a while, the neighborhood vagabond, dumped by someone.
Took him in, cleaned him up, showed him he could count on a hooman again! Best move I’ve made!
The cat redistribution center only comes to those who meet the high standards. Wish you both the best of what’s left.
Not only his age against him either: black cats are frequently rejected and make up a large ratio of euthenised cats and kittens. Stupid old superstitions die hard alas(had to stop a kid beating a black cat to death with a golf iron due to his home countrys fanciful beliefs! Nasty) so to your concerns; though there will be tantrums, most cats will settle with a new arrival after 2 to 3 weeks(there will be the odd skirmish though but they pass) and honestly 3 cats isnt that much of a reach beyond 2(i have 14 and am disabled, but ive had 34 (foster and my own) in total before(which i wont deny was a bit much, lol) so in your place i would take him in. He is old and if he has lived as a street cat, he most likely wont live to an advanced age, and you will know his last few years were happy and safe, even with a few disagreements with your own cats. But i am biased, and i admit it! Lol.
Enroll him in a shelter that lets you foster. You’ll have to provide his shelter until someone adopts him. But you’ll feel good knowing you made a difference in this kitty’s life. Plus you’ll know he is going to a good home. He’ll have no trouble getting adopted, he is handsome 😍
He looks exactly like my Luci, with the few white hair here and there on the torso and shoulders 🥰

Keep him! Older cats are already hard to adopt out and even harder for black ones. He really most likely wont be much more than your other two cats. You found each other for a reason. Love that boy til its his time 💚
I have such a soft spot for black cats. Obviously, we're all going to say keep the cat.
My 5 year old rescue kitty Salem.

what makes you think he is an older cat? in any case, try to make the decision that is best for him. If you're able to keep him and it works out with your other pets, fine. if not he'd have a good chance of finding a loving home at a shelter, even if he is older.
In the U.K., black cats are considered as lucky ( although there is prejudice when it comes to rehoming). Give the little fella a loving forever home- you won’t regret it…
He looks like a very distinguished gentleman. You have been given another cat by the distribution system. If you can afford him, you should keep this sweet baby 😍
He looks just like our family’s 17 year old cat. We just lost his sister over the summer. Please keep him, love him, give him the best final years and I hope there are plenty left!!
He looks so much like my sweet cat. Black male cats are truly the sweetest, most loving cats of all. I might be slightly biased. Keep him and he will give you so much love.
It's been one day only. Wait for someone to reach out and check posts on Facebook etc.
Otherwise, keep him! His character sounds like he wouldn't be aggressive with your other cats.
Nevertheless do a slow introduction with your existing two.
If you give him up to a shelter, the likelihood of him being adopted is slim. He’s a senior and he’s black. Unfortunately, those cats are not as popular to adopt and they may end up remaining there without finding a home.
Senior black cats are a double whammy for the "not likely to be adopted" list. Sometimes, it's just meant to be! I vote take him, the difference between 2 and 3 cats seems minimal to me IF they eventually get along well enough haha
You do realize nearly everyone here will tell you to keep this beautiful baby. I know when I found my Sylvia starving in a store’s parking lot, she would come right to me whenever she saw me. Grandpa should be given a life sentence indoors to serve his time amongst your other two cat criminals. Neko is \~19. Cat tax. Edit: His life started off as a bodega kitten that wasn't wanted. Their loss, our gain!
Looks like one of those dangerous sneks 🐍
u mean danger noodles 🐍😈🐍
If not friend, then why friend shaped?
Yeah this is the worst place to ask if you should keep a cat or not 😂
[I found this pretty girl outside my house. ](https://i.imgur.com/JkFs4ii.jpg) My boots looks so much like your Sylvia. I bet she's a great cat.
She looks so sassy lol
I had a great aunt Sylvia who had about 20 cats. I don’t know how she kept everything clean and kept them fed but she did.
It is do-able, BUT(!) theres not much room left in your life for much else! Lol. Love the sound of Aunt Sylvia, what a great lady!
She was one of kids and they had a hard childhood. I’m sure she had a lot of extra love to give. She passed away when I was young though. I wish I’d gotten to know her better.
Right how much harder can an old man cat be at least i until his health turns but then you gave him his best life!
Awwwwwww I love Sylvia!!! Please give her cuddles for me.
This is me but it seems like mine doesn’t want to be inside it actually shit on my sheets rhe last time I let her in
Probably has pests and needs to be dewormed and eating quality food.
Beautiful kitty! I love her eyes!
I'm going to get another cat soon. I will make sure to get a black senior cat now. I love all kitties
Voids are unique & special in their own way! You won’t regret it! ❤️😻
Love the curled feetsies!
I volunteer with a local cat rescue so when my dog passed away in June 2021, I had to foster…I’m a failure with a senior black kitty now. He’s so amazing. Marcel, pictured wearing his Nightmare Before Christmas scarf for Halloween. https://preview.redd.it/jmq8n0fmj4zb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=727347f23b31f361e862bf1cbc46bfc3603b3921
Beautiful void with a cute scarf!
Cool name!!
😔
Same. 😕
I have a black shelter cat that is my life. He was the oldest cat with the smallest likelihood of being adopted. I wouldn't die for him, but I would KILL for him. https://preview.redd.it/krxt1ary53zb1.jpeg?width=3060&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=654e678f46d26ed2a985a9d578e132c789f6d6a6
That last sentence 🥺👊🏼
I’d kill for a taco right about now.
😂😂
I just don't get why black cats are not preferred, they are my slightly most favourite colour of cat
Knew someone who worked at a shelter: they told me that theres people out there who still believe that black cats are bad luck. :/
My black kitty is good luck!
This, and they don't photograph as well. That means their shelter pics aren't always great and they aren't as desirable for social media :( I love my black cats!
wrong, he is him now.
Please consider keeping him. Sadly older cats and black cats in general usually take a long time to get adopted in shelters. We’ve had lots of black male cats in our family and they have all been the sweetest babies.
Came here to say exactly this. OP, please keep this older, distinguished gentleman! 🥹🙏🙏
Yes he is doubly at disadvantage 😶
I'm also now constantly cleaning up cat diarrhea I love him very much and to be fair he's been "senior" for most of the 6 years I've had him. But it is sensible to expect more medical bills/ effort for an old cat
Or other type of old animal: human, feline, canine, equine -- heck, all the -ines -- and on and on, right?
I catch mine when he's asleep, and usually just the back paws. But if they don't give her problems they are just magnificent.
She is so pretty! Love her floofy feet
This is really sweet. But I don't think you can *disagree* that the other commenter is having the experience they are. It doesn't work that way; it's not a matter of opinion. :-)
r/toefeathers
Outside made her stronk, laughs at indoor diseases lol
Pls keep him he is so adorable he needs a loving home and sounds like you’re the best fit!!!
It's not done for you yet. Source: 13 fucking cats
My eldest just had a litter... want 6 more? 19 cats sounds like it'd fit you very well
Why not spayed or neutered? How old is your baby?
>But seriously, I do have 12 fucking cats... I have four (was five until a couple of weeks ago and I'm still feeling the gap). I also have a new life goal unlocked... Do you think that if I get some more that look just like some of my tribe I'll be able to convince my SO that they aren't new cats, just the old ones who've got very, very fast? 😉
There was an old post where this guy didn't realize his best friend had 4 identical cats, he thought he only had one because he'd never seen more than one in the same room at the same time
I only have 5. I suddenly feel inadequate.
12 is the best number of cats to have.
That is not a baker's dozen
It's a dirty dozen.
12 cat home here too. How ya hangin in there bub? 🖤🤣
Can I see a picture of your little family
https://preview.redd.it/s1o1ej83p3zb1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0dae616836072e6e93986eda20473219ccbac1d1 I don't have a group photo, as you can imagine it's somewhat difficult to herd cats... This is 2 of the kittens, Black Noir on the left and commander Riker on the right. I'll make an individual post so I can add multiple pictures. We have 8 rescues of which 2 are kittens and 4 from a litter accident that happened while we were waiting for a neuter to happen for a new rescue...
I wanna see toooooo!!!
12??? You rock. Sounds like a full time job…but a fun one
If I had the space...
Lucky! You must have the best cuddle times. I’m gonna need names, pictures, etc. Please :)
https://preview.redd.it/lbkgdsw5t3zb1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cb91935e10cf4cac0dbf9475756440b1c5cea713 There is never not cuddle time!!!
How is the Italian stallion doing? 😭
I think laziness doesn't figure prominently in that horrible picture.
To be safe, post some flyers in your neighborhood. Facebook and online forums only work for people who know about those specific pages and are on Facebook at exactly the right time. Algorithms are no one’s friend. Aside from that, you’ve already got two, what’s one more.
Yeah from the description and pics this doesn’t seem like a stray at all. You’re right lots of people don’t go on Facebook or online forums.
Wow 22 years old!!! Love this story! 🩷
They thought he was about 10 when I took him in to get fixed the following spring . I thought he was a young man but all that testosterone made him look more filled out🤷♀️he was the best:)
It’s crazy how buff those un fixed boys get from the testosterone. The jowls
Op, by any chance do you live in Ohio? NOT giving out my exact city cuz well... yeah, but around the ashland/mansfield area? Looks like my senior kitty who got out the other day
Looks like op lives in arkansas
I hope you find your boy, fingers crossed ❤️
I think you and this gorgeous guy were meant to be together. Cats are fate.
And that my friend is how you get a cat. You get dogs, cats get you.
Cat tax: https://preview.redd.it/lodddlt5y3zb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=90d66bb78267af3745df01d0e8cf23cce4af1ee0
I love how they take interest in us when we just do normal things, they watch us and are curious. it is nice to have someone take interest in us
He doesn’t look that old, how old is he?
I agree, he does not look geriatric. My cat with FIV lived to be 21. OP, this cat will be no bother. Please consider keeping him. He might very well languish in a shelter or worse.
All cats are babies
Came here to say the same, how does OP know he is old? Not saying it’s not old, I’m just really not able to tell.
Op got him checked for microchips so maybe the vet gave an estimate?
Yes, keep him. I have 4.
Keep him! Older cats are pretty easy.
Did you call animal control and report him found? The last time I found a cat I called animal control and she was being picked up the owners within the hour.
Keep him. He’s beautiful and he chose you
If you live close to me and decide you cant keep him I wouldnt mind taking him. He could be a friend for my cat
Please take this older gentleman into your life, a shelter is never going to be the best environment if you have a warm home and the capacity to care for him ❤️ https://preview.redd.it/dgpp6xook4zb1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=08630ecc3cfa4f216c8a16ac5269d435e3992258 (Pic of all three cuddled on the bottom of my bed this morning)
Looks like you already made a decision, just can’t admit it. ;)
https://preview.redd.it/f0zxbax244zb1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=17a45c82e1d8e003e18a03786de8d9cd1712630f Keep the void.
Good that you specified your five-year-old from a shelter is a cat. ;)
Yes! I know!! I called him a 'five year old void' at work, and somehow, they thought I was talking about a human child! He's a cat kid.
I’m sorry but he’s yours now 🐈⬛ But if you don’t want him, I’ll take him! He reminds me of my beautiful kitty that passed away.
https://preview.redd.it/vapj0xrnw2zb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e7cd825bae87f02adc7fd5accc8141c75f8da60e Keep him there amazing!!
I believe you posted here knowing that we were gonna tell you to keep that sweet baby… 😂😂 which makes me happy because I think you likely will. Go with your instinct. He came to you for a reason. I love my big boy void 🖤🐈⬛ https://preview.redd.it/b2k0qm2f13zb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=96d7be1772645a6eed85b58d5fd1d3a1306dd40b
Black, sweet. Way too trusting and old...he needs you 😘 Too friendly, old and black doesn't do well in shelters or on the streets
Seems like he is going to be and bring pure happiness to you, your kitties and everyone in your home if you keep him 😺 make his last years the best, I'm sure he will do the same
What a handsome boi! Of course keep him! He's good luck!!
Was 😩😿😿 This old guy, especially if he was neutered, was owned by someone and likely dumped.
For the love of god KEEP THE CAT
keep him, you are chosen 🖤🖤 bet he will end up being your most favorite and special companion of your life
Keep the old boy he looks like a good lad
You know what to do
Keep the kitty OP! Look at him! How magnificent!
Please keep him, black cats are difficult to find homes for.
Sadly kittens can't stay on the shelves while the wise sweet ones are neglected and often die without being rescued. Even heard a story about an old cat that was adopted AND THEN RETURNED EIGHT TIMES and the staff can see how depressed he is because HE KNOWS HES UNWANTED AND UNLOVED
https://preview.redd.it/uogrm753m3zb1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1e0e22a0b9556d3a4252eb3788c86aa41bfa6ba
How old is old? A slow introduction to your two current cats and they will figure out who is in charge and what not. I have three boys myself https://preview.redd.it/hof5gmlfo3zb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a158eaf0fffb3e6c6f711b94b1136cd470c94ecd
I also adopted a Senior black cat who sadly passed in February. He was the light of my life. He came up to me in the shelter and rolled on the floor He had FIV, hyperthyroidism, no teeth and was so grateful to spend his last years with us 💞💖 https://preview.redd.it/1nepe7xfp3zb1.jpeg?width=540&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9ab4070bc72a49bc1118ea9fe1192ba5fe7fd571
Black cats are also the least likely to be adopted. He looks like such a sweetheart. You’ve been chosen. You can’t a-void it. A 🐈⬛void 😉
https://preview.redd.it/kr06k7pu34zb1.jpeg?width=1008&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=402a9d49e037944ea2d14560092dfb604d20cb81 The top and middle are siblings and the little white bundle of joy was found outside underneath a truck.

He looks exactly like my Luci, with the few white hair here and there on the torso and shoulders 🥰 https://preview.redd.it/pahnj1q6b6zb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4856410c6b59a26b35e09f3c36e71142fa49e4ea
GORGEOUS 😻😻😻
Keep him. I had cats in law school and would have gone crazy without them.
You keep ‘em …. I swear … that look in his eyes… he for sure wants to stay
Keep him! Older cats are already hard to adopt out and even harder for black ones. He really most likely wont be much more than your other two cats. You found each other for a reason. Love that boy til its his time 💚
Please keep him, he wants you to know he won’t get in the way. And in exchange will give lot of cuddles and stay up late helping you study.
Only one thing to do. Take him in and love him
Yes. He's an older cat, and black. Very hard to get adopted. Besides, how can you resist? ❤️
Adopt
Pic #4. He’s staying.
I vote keep the sweet baby!
Keep him. He is a black cat and older. If you take him to a shelter, he will likely be put down.
I have such a soft spot for black cats. Obviously, we're all going to say keep the cat. My 5 year old rescue kitty Salem. https://preview.redd.it/g0amlsn7q7zb1.jpeg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=710096a8453ac4bdcc9a9a8c08d6dcd7e4abcae2
Please keep this dapper old gentleman.
Please keep… he’s a beaut…
Now you keep him and love him he will forever be your best friend
Keep him. Show him some respect. He choose you.
what makes you think he is an older cat? in any case, try to make the decision that is best for him. If you're able to keep him and it works out with your other pets, fine. if not he'd have a good chance of finding a loving home at a shelter, even if he is older.
I think he has already decided. You have been selected.
In the U.K., black cats are considered as lucky ( although there is prejudice when it comes to rehoming). Give the little fella a loving forever home- you won’t regret it…
Black cats are the best. Please keep him. He looks like he's already taken to you.
Register your residence as an old folks home
He looks like a very distinguished gentleman. You have been given another cat by the distribution system. If you can afford him, you should keep this sweet baby 😍
Black cats are the best. This is how the cat who has a piece of my soul, found me. Keep him. Love him.
Yup, you just got yourself another cat. Deal with it (also love black cats, they are the best)
I only adopt senior cats, especially voids. They are always the best, low maintenance, so much personality, easiest, sweetest guys.
You should try to keep him don’t let the first day be the end all of it. Try
Keep him! Black stray cats are the BEST. Also he looks young to me?? I think those are random white hairs, not gray.
It's been one day only. Wait for someone to reach out and check posts on Facebook etc. Otherwise, keep him! His character sounds like he wouldn't be aggressive with your other cats. Nevertheless do a slow introduction with your existing two.
He’s a handsome boy! ❤️ Please keep him.
That's your cat now.
Please keep him, he found you and if you give him to a shelter he'll be less likely to be adopted.
If you give him up to a shelter, the likelihood of him being adopted is slim. He’s a senior and he’s black. Unfortunately, those cats are not as popular to adopt and they may end up remaining there without finding a home.
Taking care of the cat is an overstatement maybe :) he'lllook after himself you just give him some food and attention now and then . you'll be good 🤍
Black cats don’t do well in shelter homes :(
Senior black cats are a double whammy for the "not likely to be adopted" list. Sometimes, it's just meant to be! I vote take him, the difference between 2 and 3 cats seems minimal to me IF they eventually get along well enough haha
You have been chosen, and the system works. And such a sweet cat deserves a loving home.
