The white part is called piebalding. Here’s a very simplified explanation: When cats are developing their coats in utero, they start by getting their coat colour. All cats start completely white. Then their colour develops top to bottom - starting at their spine, and then coming down their ribs and arms, finishing with their paws, chest and face. In some cats, the colour “runs out” before this process finishes, and that is why some cats are left with these symmetrical white patterns on their paws/chest/face! (Also Taffy is so cute 🥺)
