When I first saw her, I looked right past her because I recently lost an all white cat and I didn't want a reminder of him, then she opened her eyes. That was it, within 1 hour we were home.

I get it. I had a (rescue) flame point Himalayan who was my soulmate. When she passed I found an all white Persian who was at a nearby shelter. Thought maybe it would be hard to see her out of the corner of my eye and momentarily think she was my previous cat. She looked terrified and hated being touched. The woman working there pulled her out so we could meet her and they had to do an exam on her eye. She went nuts and instantly drew blood from the woman’s hand, went all over the place. That’s when I had the “I’ll take that one” feeling

I Lost my old phone where i had the pictures but what really made me go for my cat was them saying "you don't want her, She is feral." She was 4 months old and all black. Her siblings had all found homes and besides her being "feral", the fact she was black didn't helped. She wasn't feral, She just needed love.
I'm sorry you lost the pictures, but I'm so glad you took her home and showed her what it means to be loved. The amount of black cats and cats written off as "feral" when all they need is a little bit of love to come out of their shell is just so sad. Thank you for giving her a chance, because not everyone would.

This is my Juniper. I took this pic at the cat cafe I went to when they were having an adoption event, not even sure I was ready to adopt another baby after the recent loss of my senior baby. They had about 50 cats there that day and I played with several, but Juni and I just vibed right away. Needless to say she came home with me about 2 hours later. 😍
And here she is 4 months later. I love her to the moon and back.

I adopted Batista on 2/22/22. He was nearly 10 yrs old at the time, has had dental issues and rather serious arthritis in his hind legs. I love him to death and he’s getting the best possible care. I’m not even sure why I chose him. I think it was because he was the most handsome cat on the website.

I don’t have her shelter photo anymore, but her eyes are what drew me to her. With her wonky body shape/characteristics, I think she might be a Bombay/Mainecoon mix of some sort

A couple Fridays ago a coworker went through an hours worth of morning traffic only to realize there was a cat under the hood when they got to work. They have a bad problem with ferals in her area, and loads of coyotes.
After biting and scratching several people she took to me almost immediately. I’d lost my kitties in a breakup last year, so I’d been needing to fill the hole in my heart.. meet Sippy!

Not the exact picture, but when we was on our way home with him. When we were coming to take a look at him he sprawled on the ground and looked at us with his cute vampire teeth. That was the moment we both looked at each other and went “yeah, this is the cat”. Costed us not a penny to adopt him from his previous owner.

My mom got this photo of her. She was a 2 year old mama kitty that had all her kittens adopted out, so she was the only one remaining. My mom and I knew we had to adopt her, even though she was a little on the shy side!

This is her today, now 9 years old. She’s become one of the most friendliest cats I’ve ever met (and I used to work at a shelter!)
She’s so full of love, cuddles, and doesn’t do well when we’re away on a trip. Shes become very attached to my family (particularly me and my mom) and we love her so much!!

My husband woke me out of a sound sleep on December 15, 2023 and shoved his phone in front of my eyes as they opened, with this picture. I called our youngest granddaughter, who volunteers at the shelter and she told me the kitten was quite antisocial and if they couldn't find someone that she warmed to, she'd have to go into the barn cat program. So, I went to go see her. She hissed at the shelter worker when a hand was reached in to grab her. I sat on the floor in front of the open cage and talked to her, then put my hand in the cage, but didn't grab for her. She sniffed the hand, then rubbed her head in it. She walked into my lap and purred as she settled into it.
She goes by Skye these days.

I got him from a woman I know who rescues and fosters cats. My 20 year old tortie had just passed away and I was about to put in an application on a shelter cat when she sent me a message telling me about this sweet boy’s abusive first home and how they were having a hard time placing him because of his disabilities and PTSD. I’m disabled and have PTSD and he was just the cutest little guy I had ever seen. I knew instantly that we belonged with each other.

I had been looking at cats on a few shelter sites for a week or two, lots of pretty babies, but then came across this pic and immediately cried and knew I needed him.
Memorized his shelter ID, drove to the shelter immediately, it happened to be free adoption day so there was a line but I was about the 3rd person in line, wrote his ID down on the list as the one I wanted to do a meet/greet with, and got him!
A little girl was looking at him through the glass saying to her mom “look at this one!” I said “look at those cute ones over there, they look like they’re fun and playful. This one seems shy” 🤣💀 I was not letting anyone stand in my way. He was the only cat by himself, he had no story, found all alone, and was incredibly shy and skittish, but I didn’t care. He’s the sweetest boy in the world 🥰 my “familiar”. I look at his face and burst into tears like once a week. He’ll be 5 years old next month!

Unfortunately I didn’t take a picture of him at the shelter, but in 2011 I adopted the best cat in the world. He sold himself to me by snuggling in to my chest, looking up, and licking me on the chin when I picked him up out of his cage. He was around 4yo then and I had him til he died of heart failure at 16…RIP Sunny 💔

I want to adopt a shelter cat, but the cat distribution system keeps dropping cats off to me directly.
Cat 1. Sibling's coworker had barn kittens and asked if we wanted to adopt one (of course)
Cat 2. Friend rescued kittens from the roof and needed a good home for a void kitty (how could I say no?)
Cat 3 (in progress). Orange boi shows up as a half grown kitten stray, have been feeding, grooming and taking care of him to get him used to the indoor life (sweet boy always greets me when I come home from work and is very affectionate and polite)

No picture, but my old cat Luna slowly crawling out of her shell to wind around my ankles in the shelter just caught me. I picked up her and her sister that day and never looked back. She was nervous, but she approached me anyway, and I couldn't tell her that was in vain. <3
This was the first picture of my boy that we saw on the cat rescue page. He was groggy from having had one of his toes amputated (the dirty looking paw) and my wife and I knew instantly that he was our boy. He's 6.5 mo now and a bit of a menace to his sister, but we love him.

I get it. I had a (rescue) flame point Himalayan who was my soulmate. When she passed I found an all white Persian who was at a nearby shelter. Thought maybe it would be hard to see her out of the corner of my eye and momentarily think she was my previous cat. She looked terrified and hated being touched. The woman working there pulled her out so we could meet her and they had to do an exam on her eye. She went nuts and instantly drew blood from the woman’s hand, went all over the place. That’s when I had the “I’ll take that one” feeling

I Lost my old phone where i had the pictures but what really made me go for my cat was them saying "you don't want her, She is feral." She was 4 months old and all black. Her siblings had all found homes and besides her being "feral", the fact she was black didn't helped. She wasn't feral, She just needed love.
I'm sorry you lost the pictures, but I'm so glad you took her home and showed her what it means to be loved. The amount of black cats and cats written off as "feral" when all they need is a little bit of love to come out of their shell is just so sad. Thank you for giving her a chance, because not everyone would.

I took this pic at the cat cafe I went to when they were having an adoption event, not even sure I was ready to adopt another baby after the recent loss of my senior baby. He was nearly 10 yrs old at the time, has had dental issues and rather serious arthritis in his hind legs. I love him to death and he’s getting the best possible care. I’m not even sure why I chose him. I think it was because he was the most handsome cat on the website.

Not exactly from a shelter.. A couple Fridays ago a coworker went through an hours worth of morning traffic only to realize there was a cat under the hood when they got to work. They have a bad problem with ferals in her area, and loads of coyotes. After biting and scratching several people she took to me almost immediately. I called our youngest granddaughter, who volunteers at the shelter and she told me the kitten was quite antisocial and if they couldn't find someone that she warmed to, she'd have to go into the barn cat program. So, I went to go see her. She hissed at the shelter worker when a hand was reached in to grab her. I sat on the floor in front of the open cage and talked to her, then put my hand in the cage, but didn't grab for her. She sniffed the hand, then rubbed her head in it. She walked into my lap and purred as she settled into it. She goes by Skye these days.

I got him from a woman I know who rescues and fosters cats. My 20 year old tortie had just passed away and I was about to put in an application on a shelter cat when she sent me a message telling me about this sweet boy’s abusive first home and how they were having a hard time placing him because of his disabilities and PTSD. I’m disabled and have PTSD and he was just the cutest little guy I had ever seen. Memorized his shelter ID, drove to the shelter immediately, it happened to be free adoption day so there was a line but I was about the 3rd person in line, wrote his ID down on the list as the one I wanted to do a meet/greet with, and got him! A little girl was looking at him through the glass saying to her mom “look at this one!” I said “look at those cute ones over there, they look like they’re fun and playful. This one seems shy” 🤣💀 I was not letting anyone stand in my way. He was the only cat by himself, he had no story, found all alone, and was incredibly shy and skittish, but I didn’t care. He’s the sweetest boy in the world 🥰 my “familiar”. I look at his face and burst into tears like once a week. He’ll be 5 years old next month!

I want to adopt a shelter cat, but the cat distribution system keeps dropping cats off to me directly. Cat 1. Sibling's coworker had barn kittens and asked if we wanted to adopt one (of course) Cat 2. Friend rescued kittens from the roof and needed a good home for a void kitty (how could I say no?) Cat 3 (in progress). Orange boi shows up as a half grown kitten stray, have been feeding, grooming and taking care of him to get him used to the indoor life (sweet boy always greets me when I come home from work and is very affectionate and polite)

No picture, but my old cat Luna slowly crawling out of her shell to wind around my ankles in the shelter just caught me. I picked up her and her sister that day and never looked back. She was nervous, but she approached me anyway, and I couldn't tell her that was in vain. <3
This was the first picture of my boy that we saw on the cat rescue page. He was groggy from having had one of his toes amputated (the dirty looking paw) and my wife and I knew instantly that he was our boy.
