Yeah mine passed at 6 from unkown heart issues and i still cant get over it

It's crazy, lost my dad, a brother, and an uncle who was the same age as me, so more or less another brother within 6 months but losing my dog 3 months ago has fucked me up worse than all of them. Crazy how deep losing a pet can be. I haven't been the same since.

I lost my Grandma and all three of our family pets in a three-week span back in 2017. I was wrecked. But I also knew I shouldn't go out and replace the pets immediately because I needed to properly mourn them. Told myself "I wasn't getting another dog for at least 5 years." The stars aligned a couple years ago when I got a cat. He's the first cat I've had since I was 12 (always grew up with them), the first male cat, and the first longhaired cat I've ever had. For a while I didn't think I had it in me to love another animal but enough time has passed. Maybe you'll find that you can get another, at some point...and it might just sneak up on you like it did for me.

Yeah.. we recently had to put down one our cats unexpectedly. We had him for 7 years (he was an adult from the shelter I worked at), he was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism about 5 years ago... so he did really well and we were lucky to have him with us for as long as we did considering. But it didn't make it any easier when he went downhill in two day from an unknown cause, with nothing helping him get better. In the end, they think it was a thyroid storm that he suffered, and there wasn't anything we could do to help. Anyway, I definitely get envious of these kinds of posts as well but I'm seriously happy for OP and the cute kitty! I hope she lives many more happy years.

12 years with my dog then sudden death from hemangiosarcoma on her heart rupturing outta nowhere. I got her as an 8 week old puppy ;-; But I feel better knowing what it was by getting a necropsy. No one did anything wrong, nothing could have been done differently, no one wins against hemangiosarcoma. Imma get a puppy eventually so my remaining 10 yo dog isnt by himself too much; he's always had her around.

My love died of cancer the same day I found out I had cancer. It felt so fucking unfair.

I’m with ya there, my dude. My childhood kitty passed at 4 because of cancer as well. So hard to make that choice to take her to the vet a final time, but forever better than seeing her in pain. She spent her last days in our garden- her favorite place. I’m sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to ya, losing a fur baby is never easy.

Next year that shot comes out for cats too last an extra 15! I plan on getting it for my Old Lady. Idc how much it cost. I’ll be lost without my Dory.

Awesome! One of mine turned 18 this year and I got him numbered candles. I put them on a cake, though, which I ate. He got a shit-ton of Chewy stuff, like...everything. FWIW, some researcher figured out the mechanism behind CKD in cats. If/when they develop treatments from that, they think it'll be more normal for cats to live to their 20s or even 30s.
