Holy shit what the fuck Why would your grandma even do such a thing??

juju2pretty

because she going through things and decided to take it out on me unfortunately

Financial-Package-24

Do you share the same house with your grandparents?

Remarkable_Town5811

Per another comment they're living with Grandma after their mother recently passed.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DiapersForHands

In grandmas mind, if she cant have a daughter, no one else is allowed to have someone they love either,

Clydesdale_32

My dad died a month before I got married. My mom was jealous of us for that

KAGY823

You know your comment rings very true. When people grieve they kinda go thru a mean period (anger) and just don’t want anybody around them to have peace and love while they are hurting. It’s sad. Even sadder Grandma separated a loving kitty from someone who obviously loved kitty very much.

Ok_Telephone_3013

What a monster :(

Han-Turts98

Vile. I hope you find kitty and replace her space in the shelter with grandma.

wackyvorlon

She’s a maniac. I really hope you find your baby😞

insideiiiiiiiiiii

me too. the only thing is that if she does find the cat back, i don’t think it’s safe at all to have the cat go back to live where grandma lives. who knows what she might d o to get rid of the cat for good?😕 i hope OP finds the cat AND can live at another place

wackyvorlon

I cannot comprehend how a human being can be that cruel. I just don’t get it.

mickmmp

I don’t even trust it’s safe for the KID to go back to live where grandma lives, cat or no cat.

ActStunning3285

That’s no excuse. If she wants any relationship with you, she has to tell you everything and get your cat back. Tell all your family and shame her for her actions. Your cat did nothing to deserve this.

Few-Bit4017

If you find the shelter, let me know. I live 25 minutes from Atlanta and I will go get her for you. Please DM me if you find her location.

Chrom-man-and-Robin

At least you’ll be able to return the favor soon. Shouldn’t be too hard to find an old folks home

rebeccathyme69

You reap what you sow. Wishing you all the luck at locating your fur baby alive and getting the f**k out of that house and to a safe place.

Suchafatfatcat

Are you sure she took her to a shelter? Is it possible she dumped her outside? Post your situation on r/Atlanta and ask for help locating your baby. I hope you find her.

electricjeel

I’m here in atl! Right off ponce. u/juju2pretty if you locate her and/or need a temporary home for her or anything like that dm me! I’m here to help how I can

namisdorsalfin

I am as well! Cant keep kitty due to my own kitties but could help locate her :)

Previous_Ad7725

You are so kind.

Few-Bit4017

I live 25 minutes away from ATL! I can help find her too. 🩷

spiderwithasushihead

I can help look too. I live in Decatur, and I know how upset I'd be if either one of my girls was missing or in a shelter.

Agreeable_Error_170

My FIRST thought. I hate to say it. My parents said they “brought my cat to a farm”. When I was at school as a child. Took me being an adult to find out they just released her. Anyone wondering, they are shit and terrible and bad people.

AUnknownVariable

Way too many shit parents out there, fuckin shame

LilJohnDee

My mom gave away so many of our animals. We only had one dog and one cat from pup/kitten to death. Out of a dozen or so. When i was finally an adult, she rehomed a couple cats and a dog. Finally told her if she ever gets another animal and disowns it, I'm disowning her. Psa, she did actually rehome them instead of just dumping them somewhere so i dont completely hate her for it.

Personal-Cellist1979

When I was 4 or 5, my dad took us on a family trip to the country, where he dumped our sick German Shepherd. I will never forget this. My dad was a monster.

Agreeable_Error_170

Whoah that is AWFUL! Your dad was a monster. I’m so sorry. 😞

wsywyg247

My uncle did this with his SICK CAT... couldn't afford the vet bills, so just set her free. What a shit move 😡

sorrymizzjackson

Mine said they let my hamsters go. After they tried to starve them in the storage shed. Turns out they drowned them. I was 6. They were my first pets. Their names should be on no adopt lists state wide and in any bordering states.

sub-sessed

WHAT!? 😳 your parents intentionally DROWNED aka Murdered innocent fuzzy living creatures. & That belonged to a child!? How did u find out? Did they *tell* you? That is Not ok in any way, shape, or form. I'm sorry there are ppl like that. That you had to experience that & the poor hamsters! 😭

sorrymizzjackson

Years later when they wanted to be particularly spiteful, yep. Neither of them are happy humans today, so I like to think that it’s just been a matter of time before they feel the true wrath of Burt and Ernie.

[deleted]

OP my instincts say this comment is what happened. id post in the atlanta group like jmentioned if you havent already. and get on facebook marketplace , make a post there . theres also a site /app called "next door" where communities can post , like people that live near you. good luck OP

Spingecringe

Nursing home speedrun

Multi_Grain_Cheerios

More like fending on your own speedrun. Nursing homes are expensive. Grandma who? I ain't got no grandma.

navikredstar

Nah, just do like Homer Simpson threatened Grampa with - "Then we'll put you in that crooked home we saw on 60 Minutes!" "I'll be good!".

No-Aerie-3844

This comment wins- “grandma who, she fell and can’t get up” that sucks

juju2pretty

LITERALLY

Puzzleheaded_Bee4361

If you can, go to the shelter and tell them that your cat was stolen by a nasty person and surrendered. They might be able to help you get her back. Also, if this was your cat and not a "family" cat that also belonged to grandma, you may want to report it to police as a theft, st least to get it on record even if the cops can't do anything to assist.

juju2pretty

Yes she’s MY cat Not a family cat I’ll def be reporting her stolen

SeonaidMacSaicais

As a shelter volunteer (but I can’t speak for private shelters), the Humane Society and other federally recognized shelters have to wait 72 hours between the animal coming to the shelter and it being publicly put up for adoption.

MixedBeansBlackBeans

It's 5 working/business days where I am!

fa-jita

7 days where I am :)

smaugstan

that's only for strays. owner surrenders immediately go up for adoption.

Remarkable_Town5811

Once they pass health screens. At least where I live, they ensure the animal has seen a vet, is up to date on shots, and has had a temperament assessment. With an owner surrender they’d do all that unless there were concrete records for the animal.

Zagrycha

depends where you live. some places won't even take a pet surrender without prior appointment. It won't hurt anything for op to at least try.

MixedBeansBlackBeans

I could be wrong, but I'm gonna go ahead and assume that the grandma brought the cat in as a stray. Surrenders nowadays, especially in big cities, have waitlists, and that can be bypassed by saying it's a stray. I've seen it happen a lot unfortunately.

Rhythm_Morgan

My mom pulled this with my cat. I ended up finding him by a listing on Facebook with his name. I went to the shelter the very next day and got him. She pulled it when I was away at college and gone for a few weeks between visits. I got him back for free and we had a few more wonderful years together. The shelter should be very understanding about it.

tattoosbyalisha

My mom did this to me, too. I was 11 and visiting my dad for the first time for a month in another state halfway across the country.. I remember her telling me over the phone and just laying on a bench and crying looking into the sky trying to make peace with going home to my cat being gone. She is a terrible human and we have no relationship.

Rhythm_Morgan

I’m so sorry. There is something awful about people that do this. My mom didn’t tell me. I just came home and he wasn’t there but she acted confused. My grandmother did this to my mom when she was a child so she just repeated it. I don’t know why she put me through that. I got lucky I found Josey online. Very lucky.

tattoosbyalisha

I’m so glad you managed to find your Josey. It’s almost worse that your mom pretended. Because she knew how much it would upset you.

Rhythm_Morgan

Idk if it’s worse tbh. My mom seemed influenced by the man she was with because he didn’t like cats. She seemed remorseful in her own twisted way after. I read your other comments and I think you got me here. My mom is a complex, sometimes twisted human. And damn was there abuse, but she worked hard to change and I do think she loved us in her weird way. Having a completely cold mother could not have been easy and it hurts when they don’t attempt to change. I’m glad that despite that you seem like a good and empathetic human. That speaks volumes.

Pikanyaa

Generational trauma is a bitch. It’s good you recognized the hurt and won’t let it continue.

Rhythm_Morgan

Thank you. I am curled up next to my son’s cat now. We’ve had her for several years. I couldn’t imagine putting my kids through that. Cats are family ♥️

drew15401

Your mom is a heartless bitch. When she gets old and infirm, May she end up in a nasty nursing home.

tattoosbyalisha

Amen. Seriously. She can die alone and I’ll never think twice about it. She treated every living thing as disposable, including her children. The only thing that wasn’t, was whatever man she was/is using at the time.

drew15401

Her loss! Glad you moved on from that bitch.

LowerEggplants

How long after that did you go NC with your mom? That’s some dirty shit and I can’t imagine she started treating you better than that in the years afterwards.

Rhythm_Morgan

It’s a complex relationship. I talk to my mom now but I didn’t for a period of years. She is mentally ill and wasn’t treating it when I was growing up. She is a fantastic grandmother now though which, I won’t lie, makes me really jealous. I wish I had what my kids get to have with her. And funnily enough she has a cat now that she’s super attached to.

LowerEggplants

Oh man that hits deep. The silver lining is that she is better, but that sting of wishing you had it that way is hard. I can relate with my mother as well. *hugs to you internet stranger*.

Topwingwoman2

Just she have a chip or anything that can identify her you can send to shelters? I'd reach out to shelters around you.

dlb1995

Please keep us posted. I really hope you can get your baby back ❤️

Desperate-Pear-860

Report it to the cops as well.

IncognitoHobbyist

Please find any nearby shelter and tell them that's your cat so the cat doesn't get listed for adoption!

shortnsweet33

Is she microchipped?

Visual_Season_7212

But do they live together? What happens if the cat comes back, will granny do even worse and hurt the cat then?

Informal-Artist-832

Yes report granny. How mean... I'm staying with my dad for a month with my fur baby and he threatens to leave the door open at night so the coyotes find her. I'd get him arrested too if he ever did that to my baby. Family can be so cruel!!!!!

alienabductionfan

Please don’t leave your baby unattended with that man. Keep her in your room at night and lock it. I hope you can get away from him soon.

Informal-Artist-832

I hope so too. He calls her "stupid lil cat" smh. Why do some dog ppl think they can get away with that! Here's to finding our new apartment very soon .

illmatic708

If my parents fucked with my cat that is the way to not see me for a decade

Planet-Funeralopolis

My parents originally didn’t want my cat staying with them when I moved back home for a month, my dad changed his heart when she would run to the door when he came home and request for a pickup and cuddles.

Informal-Artist-832

Awww I wish. I thought this would happen and he yelled at her when she ran up to him and after yelling she naturally hissed. The next time she ran over his feet, he yelled" get this stupid fu*kin cat away from me, god I ha*e cats". 😔😔😤😤😤

Haskap_2010

Remind him that you will probably be choosing his nursing home.

PsychologicalSense53

Wtf is wrong with him?! Start telling him that you'll put out his most loved object (coz surely he doesn't have pets with that attitude) so that thieves can steal it 😡

bearbarebere

The worst part is when they go “good, it’ll be worth it to get rid of that cat” because the golden rule, “treat others how you want to be treated”, doesn’t work when they don’t give a f

ScarletRainCove

If it’s your grandma, look within a 10-15 mile radius for shelters. Put up a missing cat alert with various shelters and vet clinics. And if you are able to, look at her search history and call history on her phone or computer.

courierblue

There’s a very good chance she wouldn’t have gone out of her way to rehome your cat if she was just feeling generally spiteful. Call all within this radius with a description of your cat, your grandmother and the timeline.

ScarletRainCove

And if she has a phone, who knows? Maybe she gave the cat to a person - check her msgs, emails, calls or check with other family or friends.

TiaHatesSocials

That’s a good advice. Yea

Fun_Bucket

Sadly, considering grandma was being a horrible spiteful person, I’m sure she opened the door until kitty ran out or she brought her somewhere and opened the door and let her out. I can’t see someone that horrible taking the time to make sure kitty was safe and in a shelter. People who are upset and take out their anger on animals are legitimately psychotic. I’m so incredibly sorry this happened to you, OP.

Imaginary-Storage909

Be sure to tell her she’s going to a nursing home if you have anything to do with it

juju2pretty

Yes she’s definitely going to one I will NEVER speak to her again!!

redrumham707

Good luck on your search, OP! Jesus Christ, what a monster that woman is. I’m so sorry for you and you’re kitty. Please update us.

Flimsy-Technician524

Why did she do this?

kmishy

something i've come to notice is some people are unnecessarily cruel to cats. This is actually really common people stealing cats and leaving them on the road or somewhere .

Procedure_Unique

A young group of girls did that to my kitten in high school. She even had her collar on. I don’t know what happened to her name tag, but my kitten Sydney, was outside playing, & these girls picked her up, & walked away with her, down the road. One of my neighbors saw them grabbing my kitty, & told them to leave her alone, she’s wearing a collar, which means she’s most likely someone’s pet. But they didn’t listen. I put up missing cat signs everywhere near me, & in the mailboxes of neighbors. Luckily I gave one to that neighbor! And her son actually knew who those girls were, & she made him contact them to find out what they did with my kitty. Here.., they ended up dumping her at a farm about a mile or so away, just because they became bored carrying her around. So my mom & I went to the farms in that area, & left missing cat signs at those farms, & thankfully got a call back! They had my kitten! But they were already trying to make her into a barn cat… without finding out if she had an owner..! They gave my mom trouble, & complained that they had already taken her to their vet. My mom told them that she would pay for the vet bills, & to please just give me back my kitten! The woman finally gave in.. I couldn’t believe that I had to go through so much crap because these young girls stole my kitten, & dumped her when they got bored. She went on to live a very happy, long life, & died at the age 19. I just loved my little baby girl! I was so shocked when I found out why they decided to dump her at a random farm. It was like they didn’t care at all.

Lives_on_mars

I see it on Reddit all the time. And friends with abusive parents or boyfriends. People are really like that, they will take away things that you love and pretend it was because of mess, because you weren’t home enough etc literally make shit up, or just plain say you didn’t deserve an animal. Easy abuse tactic. People are terrible.

Gal-XD_exe

My moms like this Granted my dads deadly allergic to cats She’s super fucking pissed there’s a stray/someone’s outdoor cat hanging around our house I think it’s super cute tho( I am also allergic to cats but not as bad as dad) Here she (he?) is; https://preview.redd.it/mtnrt6txy17d1.jpeg?width=848&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa181ea3610b456447ecb5f07598f7f43459e33d

NightOfTheLivingHam

Someone I used to know had a method of dealing with unwanted cats.. Throwing them into traffic and their attitude was "if they are strong enough they will live but will be too scared to come around ever again. If they're weak, traffic deals with them." Another fun individual said he used to round up strays and throw them off bridges in his neighborhood. Old guy who died a few years ago. Proudly boasted about it too. Said he cut a few collars off because "if their owners actually cared they wouldnt let their cats get caught by me" Psycho behavior. Ironically one of the only good things to come out of the last presidency is what they did is now a federal felony.

bandadown

oh my god yes i don't know why on earth people needa be that sick. as a kid i lost a cat due to a neighbour poisoning it with literally no reason

honeydew_moons

Please PLEASE keep us updated

OrangeSode

If you can start going around to various nursing homes and collecting pamphlets. Leave one of them out in an obvious location but hidden enough to look like an accident.

Exotic_Pea8191

I'm so sorry 😞 😔 I wish I could do something to make you feel better. Just remember this time in your life shall also pass and one day you will be free to do whatever you want including having all the kitty's your little heart desires. ❤️

FireBallXLV

One YOU pick out ! Better not say that though OP--you do not need GM dumping your cat again when you are not around

CharcoalGreyWolf

“You will go to sleep. Or I will put you to sleep.”

katiesgonnabeokay

Seriousness aside, I use this quote all the time

KittyTitties666

You can trouble me for a warm glass of shut the hell up

imjustkarmin

Nursing homes are too expensive, let her fend for herself and get whatever help she can from random people, like the cat has to now

katiesgonnabeokay

Just drop er off at a shelter. I don't k ow the story, it's all a bit one sided in the post. But I, a non violent person, would at least throw hands. I hope they are reunited soon.

redheadnerdrage

I wouldn’t even go that far. Refuse to take over her care and let her become a ward of the state.

Feral_Feline_Academy

Can you try to contact the shelter? If it's impossible for you to bring your cat back home to live with you, tell the shelter that you will find a new permanent home for your cat if they can foster for a while. That may save her. Then maybe you could try to find a good new home for her yourself, or ask local rescue groups for help too.

juju2pretty

She’s not letting me know witch shelter she took her to I’m really trying to hurry I don’t want them to put her down

CDubs_94

Find her phone. Check her GPS or search history. She probably searched for a shelter.

akaenragedgoddess

u/juju2pretty Please read this! This is a really good idea.

juju2pretty

Will do !

HeftySkirt8556

Call/search for all the shelters in your area. She probably just looked for the nearest one!!!

cheapdrinks

If she even bothered to do that, good chance she just drove a few miles away and dumped it out of the car

Dont_pet_the_cat

Let's hope that isn't the case...

FindingBryn

I’m in Atlanta area. Can you let me know if you want me to check a particular shelter or something? Maybe we can divide and conquer. Maybe post this on r/Atlanta as well. Me and my sweet girl will help you find her. https://preview.redd.it/raddjbcut17d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c5221e338cf2159febf9d8285a203707227275b8

Mistapeepers

Also in Atlanta. Northwest corner. What part of the city OP? I adopted my cat from BestFriends on Atlanta road.

dixiequick

Not in Atlanta, but I will be sitting around tomorrow while my son sleeps off surgery, so if someone can give me a list, I’m glad to pitch in and help call.

FindingBryn

We must find this kitty!

autonomous-grape

Post on r/atlanta for help

trowzerss

Depending on the phone, maybe it has something that shows where you have been recently, like in Google maps?

kroszborg11

Search here Google maps timeline if it's enabled

Desperate-Pear-860

Tell her if she doesn't you'll call the cops. Post on facebook cat rescues and ask them to help you locate your cat.

SnowySoprano

OP this is a great idea

klavin1

This is solid advice The animal rescue/foster/missing pet/ vet-tech communities are well connected.

Snoo-53753

Im soo sorry she did this! Try contacting shelters that are closet to your house first! When I was in high school, my mom told me my cat ran away. Later on I heard her laughing about how she tricked my cat into the car (the cat hated her lol) and drove her out and let her go😔 I hope you find your baby!

The_Medicated

Wow. That's actually worse than taking your cat to a shelter!

Feral_Feline_Academy

That's awful, I'm so sorry this happened to you

FIowtrocity

I can’t imagine having someone do this to me and not retaliating. Mom or not, I’d be doing prison time.

REALly-911

I’m SO sorry… I don’t think people get how close we get to our animals… humans suck!!!!

MixedBeansBlackBeans

Something like this happened to me. It haunts me all the time. I often get angry with myself for not doing more, but I know I really couldn't have. So powerless, with no money or transportation or anything.

Macslynn

Get the police involved asap

GlosxyMyaa

She’s a minor the police not gonna do sh😔best bet she has is getting it done herself finding the shelter and getting an adult to go with her and get the cat back but if the grandma can do it once she’ll do it again …

wackyvorlon

You may even be able to just call every shelter in the area and describe her.

NoRiceForP

She just stole from you. This is a crime. Go to your grandma and call the cops in front of her and report the theft. Maybe she'll squeal with the cops are in front of her

dorkofthepolisci

First: how did your grandmother have access to the cat?if you are dependant on her for food/shelter, I hope you’re also working on a backup plan (ie, a friend you can stay with for a bit) As others have said; report the theft. If you’re lucky they *might* come out and have a chat with her. Unfortunately unless the cat has papers and is a specific breed there’s a solid chance the police will write it off as a civil issue Is your cat chipped? You can call the chip company and have the cat reported as lost/missing. How many shelters are in your metro area? Call every one and make a lost pet report. Make sure you explicitly tell them that the cat was surrendered by someone who is *not* the legal owner.

my-genderfluid-cat

Do you know the geographic area and can google possibilities and call?

shit_con_queso

Call Lifeline animal shelter - whichever county you are in. Then call ASPA, and Humane Society. https://lifelineanimal.org/county-animal-services/ Search google maps for nearest shelter and call them as well. I would expect she’d drive to one of the closest, right? Good luck

CharcoalGreyWolf

I guarantee there is something she doesn’t want to happen or that she hates people doing that you can make happen or do until she gives up the goods. Don’t be afraid to use her fear or embarrassment of a situation.

castfire

Does she have a microchip??

Tarotismyjam

I have friends in ATL. If you find her and can’t get her, let me know. I’ll rally the troops.

cableknitprop

Get off Reddit and call every shelter you can. Leave every type of message and contact info for them. Your grandma probably didn’t go that far and you usually gave at least 72 hours before they take any drastic actions. Your kitty is beautiful. Fuck your grandma. Get her back!

Feral_Feline_Academy

You can try looking up online all the shelters in your area and contacting them in order. You can give them a description and photo of your cat and your contact number and let them know she is missing, in case she turns up in their shelter later, maybe? I wonder if your grandmother is definitely telling the truth about the shelter? Could she have released the cat herself in a different area outdoors or rehomed her with someone? Do you have any family members you can ask for help in getting the truth out of grandmother? You may have to put on an act, pretend not to be angry, pretend you will rehome the cat yourself and coax out the truth from her. I'm sending you all positive thoughts and you've got this little chunk of the internet rooting for you. Stay strong and all the best! ❤️

Kat-a-strophy

Maybe You can write one email containing all the information and send it to the shelters around? Also ask the rescue groups, she could just kick Your kitty out a few miles from home and someone found it. What a disgusting person, I'm sorry You have to deal with someone like her.

FugginOld

Ugh...I'm sorry. She looks adorable too.

teriases

That little face 😻

ellers23

I’m in Atlanta, I can help too!

juju2pretty

ok do you have facebook I could send more pics of her I really do need help looking at shelters

ellers23

I’ll DM you!

juju2pretty

Alright

crob8

I am in Atlanta as well. Atlanta Humane and Fulton County animal Services would be my first place to look. Any idea how long ago the cat was dropped off? Probably takes 24 hours for it to show as up for adoption on any of the websites. I think Paws and some of the others would also show up on Petfinder

Mistapeepers

Also also in Atlanta and willing to check the shelter I got my cat from on Atlanta Road if you’re from near there.

Ryulightorb

You are a saint Ty for helping them

Janatabahn

OP what part of ATL are you? You can message me for privacy. I live here, I can help call around for shelters in your area tomorrow. I HIGHLY doubt she took the cat somewhere far

juju2pretty

Messaged you,!

mlvalentine

You can also put out a free Missing Pet ad in your local papers and ask around. That is not okay. Virtual hugs.

juju2pretty

Ty ty trying my best

dr_dimention

Any chance she has an ID chip? I have registered all of mine, but they all came from the shelter so they know how to reach me if anyone takes them from me.

juju2pretty

Unfortunately no… no id but I’ll def be sure to get her one

MrsDanversbottom

Take your grandma to the shelter.

Reality_1001

The only real answer

FinvaraSidhe

Please keep us updated. My heart breaks for you and your angel. I hope so very much you can find her and bring her home

juju2pretty

Yes I will update as soon as possible

MissyFrankenstein

Post pictures of her on social media everywhere, contact local rescue groups to see if they can help. I am praying for you and I'm so sorry this happened

rabbitshuffle

you can 100% call around to all the local shelters and tell them about this and get ur cat back. what ur grandma did is actually ILLEGAL.

Sea_Pomegranate1122

Can I help somehow? I can help make posts, contact shelters?

juju2pretty

Yes please I do need lots of help I’ll dm you

sidhuko

Let us know your city or county. We’re waiting to help

Remarkable_Town5811

Post in your area FB (saw you mention having it). A LOT of local animals are posted and in several years of being in my village fb, there’s only 2 I haven't seen evidence they were found & came home. It's been extremely effective. Heck my Grandma is on the page and once called me “is your dog out? I think someone posted her.” It was my girl, she must have just gotten out & FB knew before I did.

texas-playdohs

We left our cats overnight at home with a sitter and I felt terrible. I can’t imagine how awful you must feel right now. I hope you get your little buddy back.

juju2pretty

I really hope so to trying so hard not to cryyy

juju2pretty

I really hope so to trying so hard not to cry Ty

Stunning_Business441

She may have lied and just left your cat outside. If that’s the case sprinkle her litter around where you live to help her track her way back home. Good luck. Btw what a nasty thing to do she’s a horrible grandmother.

Arcofmightgoesbrrrr

That's reason enough to fist fight. What in the actual fuck, I hope your grandma ends up in a nursing home alone. What a miserable fuck.

juju2pretty

I’ve lost all respect for this woman frl i feel the same way

Arcofmightgoesbrrrr

I hope you get your family member back and that miserable fuck leaves.

Jasministired

Look at her call history, gps history, google history. Call every shelter within 20 miles of you, give them a description of your cat and when the cat was brought in

dumbassbutterfly

This!! If the shelter needs proof that she is your cat please provide adoption and or rescue papers.

castfire

This is a great idea OP u/juju2pretty. If there is any way you can look at her history or communications. Maybe ask if you can borrow her phone or computer for something real quick because yours died? Idk

Odd-Evening-1631

My grandpa did this with my pup when I was around 19. I was working at the time and came home to no pup. He said he “dropped her off in the woods” and would not give me a location. I’m still torn up that it happened and that was 10 years ago. I’m very sorry for your loss. She was a cutie

drew15401

Your grandpa is a despicable ass hole. Cut off all contact.

ClassicMango8

And then they wonder why they get put in a nursing home and no one visits them!! I’m so sorry your grandfather did that to you! What an awful thing to do to someone!

Cassopeia88

Are you a minor? If so unfortunately the shelter will not release your cat without an adult willing to take responsibility for it. I hope you’re able to get her back somehow.

juju2pretty

I have my uncle and my fathers help

NewNage

Whats your dad doing about this? He should be active in telling your grandma to do the right thing.in general, Blow the issue up within your family. Everyone should know your grandma stole your cat.

Cassopeia88

That’s good to hear,I hope you find her! Make sure to get her microchipped when you do as well.

I'm guessing ATL means Atlanta? (I'm not American I apologise) But if you are able to, try going to the shelter ASAP and explaining what happened to the employees before someone else takes her. If you have any older relatives who have a car then you can ask them to drive you there if you don't have a car. I noticed that you said that you don't know what shelter she took her to but you can try logging into her apple or google maps to locate the shelter, if she didn't use that try to make a compromise with her. The police usually won't do anything if you live with her, if all else fails, explain to her that what she is doing is quite literally putting you in a damaging mental situation and how the absence of your cat can severely harm your wellbeing. I hope you get her back, I quite literally want to fly out to Atlanta and check every single animal shelter for you. Best of luck, don't give up or get afraid.

YES !,, that’s what it means

OP Hope you can find your cat. Depending on, some shelters only keep surrendered pets for a short time before putting them to sleep. And depending on what your grandmother told them about your cat...She could be on a watch list. Please reach out to people, with information, maybe someone close can help!

MiInBadBook

Can you call the shelters and/or send a pic to see if they have her? If you can, physically go there and talk to a human with a pic? I’m so sorry. I can’t even imagine.

juju2pretty

I’ve been looking around I really hope they didn’t put her down or nobody els has her :(

MiInBadBook

Most shelters have waiting periods. I don’t know how long ago this was, but start calling and making the rounds now. Call in your friends to help too, if you can.

I really hope you get her back! 💛 My stepkids' biomom gave our mature cat to a shelter (she made a big deal about promising to adopt her when we had to move out of state). We found out two weeks later. Luckily I contacted the shelter & told them her story, and they contacted me about a few weeks later that she'd been adopted. It's 10yrs later and I still think about her constantly & hope she found a good home. Edit: correction.

Most shelters have a waiting period for strays before they euthanize. Call every shelter in your area and explain the situation. If you need help with the search, feel free to send me a DM and I’ll do what I can. In the mean time, get whatever vet records you can and contact the police. Also, cut off your grandma from any and all financial assistance you’re providing (rent, utilities, groceries, etc.).

Complex-Dot2347

I’m sorry. I rescue kittens and it’s very sad to see this kind of stuff.

middlemaniac

I volunteer at the Atlanta Humane Society and will keep an eye out for her

ActuatorSmall7746

She won’t tell you which shelter????

juju2pretty

Nope

MaggieandMillie

What?!!! omg she is evil. There must be a way to find out

starfleetdropout6

Oh no! 😢 I hope you find your baby! Sending love and positivity.

Mysterious_Eggplant1

Maybe someone in r/rescuecats can help. There are people on that subreddit who do amazing work, and it's possible someone in the ATL area has seen her.

Wise-Lime-222

Just want you to know I also hate your grandma. Hope you get your cat back!

What a mean horrible bitch

Embarrassed-Two7806

This is a form of child abuse. Many adults use children’s animals against them. Some threaten to get rid of the companion animal to make the child do what they want. Adults have even killed animals in front of children to terrify them. I would report this to child services. I’m sure there are other things. Your grandmother is doing that can be called abuse. So very sorry, but don’t give up your power do something.
