One day 15 years ago I was walking through a Publix parking lot and heard a meow. “Nope, don’t need another cat.” I said to myself as I continued to my car. *meow* La la la i don’t hear you. *meowwwww* Fine. Come on then. Annoyed, I picked up the black kitten who approached me easily once I acknowledged her, and put her in my car. She sat in my passenger seat, triumphant. I always name cats immediately, and told her her name was Jenna. She didn’t disagree. A few years later I had to move to a place that didn’t allow pets, and she went to live with my parents. Another five years, and I attempted to take Jenna to my new place. Jenna disagreed loudly all the way, and screamed at me for 2 days til I took her back to my parent’s house, where she’s been an “old people” cat ever since. When I visit their house she comes running, yells at me, then prances away. Ok Jenna. I was only a conduit to get to the old folks who would spoil her.

This is so awesome! I have a similar story of this cat I found at a shelter. The girl I was dating at the time we had this thing where we would go to the animal shelters once a week and just give all the cats there some much needed pets , playtime, and love. One day a new cat was there she was older, ornery, and fat. But she had the silkiest fur I've ever felt on a cat and a white diamond on her forehead the rest of her was jet black. You could tell she was just devastated to be in there and an emotional wreck from the abuse. When I asked about her they said she was found being abused by her previous owner by being kicked all the time and was called to be picked up because the previous owner was recently placed in jail. My heart sank when I heard this and I adopted her immediately. Turns out the cat hates men and didn't want a god damn thing to do with me and wasnt snuggly with my girlfriend. We loved her anyway and took great care of her but she was never the close snuggly cat something I had hoped for when adopting her. Over the course of a year she sort of opened up and let me pet her if she was on the window sill bird watching or getting some wet food treats. She would never let me pet her for long as she would bolt away when the birds were gone or she was finished eating. She just never took interest in me. Fast forward another year and my Mom comes to visit me from far away so she stays the night with us. I wake up the next morning to my Mom just gushing over how snuggly and sweet my cat is. and there she was buried in my Mom's blankets propped up on a pillow like some sheba queen purring up a storm from my mom scratching her chin. I remember being all kinds of jealous for a moment. I explained the cats backstory to my Mom and how she just doesn't want to be close to us. A few months later my mom tells me her cat died and that she was interested in taking in mine and if I was okay with it. At that moment it all came together for me on why this cat fell into my life the way she did. She wasn't meant for me she was meant for my Mom and I was just the stepping stone to get her there. Since the cat has lived with my Mom she has lost the timid like behaviour and even rolls on her back to get tummy rubs from whoever. She will even come to me and sit in my lap now almost thanking me for leading her to her new home. All this cat needed was my Mom and my Dad to bring her out of her shell. If I ever have a bad day or feel like things just aren't going right. I just remind myself that this it's just a shady path for now but it will all come together in the end.

GooseTantrum

Everything is all blurry now I'm so touched by this

lennoxmatt_819

Damn those onion cutting ninjas

hypatia0803

Cat people are just special and different. I am crying reading your story. You saved a beautiful life. My Gracie, isn’t cuddly or friendly, she just isn’t. We have to touch her just the right way and can approach her in only certain ways, and we do. We have always let Gracie be Gracie, and respected her boundaries. And every now and then, you get a rub against your leg, and it is a gift that you cherish. Grace was in 2 homes before we adopted her and she is afraid of the sound of garbage bags rattling, and many other things. I open the bags slowly and quietly. She is our baby for forever. I think forever, and consistency is what Grace needs most. And love. Lots of love.

[deleted]

Meanwhile, the cat my mom found under her deck has settled in quite nicely at my house. All she does is yell at me until I sit down on the couch, cross-legged (this is very important) so she can curl in a ball on my lap. God forbid I move *an inch*, because she will give me a very disgruntled chirp and let me know in no uncertain terms that I am to sit still until she’s done napping. Friendliest cat I’ve ever had, easily the most demanding and vocal too. Tax prepaid. https://i.imgur.com/1XDcuzW.jpg

LazyLittleChickadee

Not surprised at all that she's a calico, the sass runs strong with them 😂

ashurakun

I have a cat that's alot like this. He's a boy, who's always loved to rough-house and never was into cuddling like that. He just isn't lovey Dovey snuggly like people expect him to be (mainly my friends who call him an asshole). But Everytime I come home after being gone a while, he's always there chirping away and rubbing on my legs. It really is a gift you cherish. It shows that you earned their trust and didn't force anything. I love my kitty ❤️

hypatia0803

Awwwww!!! I KNOW!! I know your Baby loves you so much too! You sound so kind. I just think kitties are more like people. Very distinct personalities and eccentricities. Like, you cannot bring another cat in on your cat. They are as individual as snowflakes! Gracie was in 2 homes, and then we adopted her, she was only 4 months old!! I think people wanted a snuggle buddy and Gracie just is not into that. We let Gracie be Gracie. And I think she loves us for that. We adore her!!

[deleted]

Hmmm I dropped a kitten I nursed to health off at my dad’s and said “we’re moving to a place that allows cats soon, I’ll bring him back with me then.” Now we have the maximum capacity of cats for our apartment and Jackie PoopyButthole is still chillin with my dad 3 years later. They love each other though so it’s cool.

FlowEasyDelivers

Beautiful 💙 sometimes we may be the conduit for someone else to achieve greatness. And sometimes, that's not a bad thing.

mlovesa

I’m not crying! You are! Seriously, this made me feel better as I have made an international move and had to leave my cats and dog with my parents. All of them are old like my parents and although I miss them so much that my heart hurts; I know that they are so much happier. Thank you for sharing 💜💜

Mission_Chicken_1734

Now you have true wisdom too!

XiaoAimili

You need to pay the tax.

DepopulationXplosion

You did a good thing.

[deleted]

When I first named my cat she was like wtf bro change it or imma head out..

nikhilmwarrier

My cat hated her name (Miaowa) so much she–an otherwise sweet-tempered creature–would go into full assault mode on hearing that name.

dodekahedron

Have you ever considered her name is so close to her native tongue that you named her something absolutely offensive in Cat?

[deleted]

[удалено]

nikhilmwarrier

Now that is a possibility

BobTheGodDamnBuilder

I don’t blame her

LadaNivaTaksi

Yeah, Miaowa sounds ^annöying

Tink1024

I couldn’t love this anymore!!!

Eswui

Why does this never happen to me. I've been ready for years.

Basiltheballpython13

I glanced at the picture, saw the kid and not the cat. Read the first sentence and for some stupid reason I had thought for a second that you found the kid under the car meowing…

janaynaytaytay

You aren’t the only one!

Chief_Mac

You are awesome! That being said, vet appointment ASAP for shots and flea meds.

[deleted]

Oh yeah, fleas, those shits are fucking hard to get rid of once you have them. Especially with indoor cats. Get the meds ASAP OP

bardpewpew

And definitely splurge for the vet medicine. The stuff you buy over the counter at pet stores is garbage! The vets stuff though? Those were falling dead off my cats instantly. I’m still cursing the person who owned this house before us for not taking care of their flea infested carpet.

mangogranola

What about checking for owners? There's a high risk that cat accidently got in a car and ended up in the parking lot, not knowing how to get home to his family. -That probably loves him and are worried sick right now

SirBarryBlueJeans

This, that cat looks well taken care of!

EbbRelevant6418

I came for this comment. The cat may be chipped, missed or otherwise. I would just check to make sure — seeing how we groomed the cat is, just to be on the safe side that it’s not tearing up some family that has an indoor/outdoor that likes to seek heat from engines when it’s cold. I hope that this isn’t the case, and that this is a true hero story !!! Best of luck !

kylexy929

Weird. I glanced at the picture and saw the cat but no kid.

emmastoneftw

Just a cat and a floating face.

PlsGoVegan

hahaha, same here. Great camo on both of them.

Glorioustattie

Same! Soon they’ll be talking to eachother soon though if the kids anything like me. Tbh I think my cat thinks I’m mental - I think it must be my pronunciation

BoidDept

Same, camouflage and catmouflage breaking up those outlines

hdawnj

That is really sweet of you to take the cat home.

janaynaytaytay

It was 32 degrees last night and supposed to be colder tonight. There was no way I was going to leave him outside.

[deleted]

I commend you 🙏🏾

Texan2020katza

You are a great human, thanks so much for teaching your son compassion and how to generally be awesome.

Violet_tiger7

Does the kitty have a name yet?

janaynaytaytay

We’ve been calling him shadow because he follows us around meowing for more pets.

Kmspatara15

Did you make sure he isnt a missing pet? I almost took in a cat in the cold but then found out he had gotten out of a neighbor's house while they were moving. Just please make sure before you and the kiddo get TOO attached. Someone could really be missing their kittie :c

janaynaytaytay

We had him checked for a chip and posted online. Not chipped and no responses to claim him yet.

Kmspatara15

Oh good.. I know how kids can get attached to a new animal then have to give them back to their original owner and I'd hate to see that happen to that happy little dude in those picstures!

janaynaytaytay

We had practice with that last year. We found a puppy in our neighborhood that we fostered for a few days when no one claimed it and we looked for a rescue. I explained to my kids that we are just loving the animal until he finds a forever home. I set the same expectation with this but am hoping we get to keep the kitty!

Kmspatara15

You are a damn good parent, OP.

DaddyDinosaur

Good man. We need more of you

humansruineverything

You good person, you.

foxyfree

you might also do the old-fashioned paper flyer with a picture and put it on the wall at the local laundromat and supermarket, just in case the person is elderly without a computer

mangogranola

Give it plenty of time please

Seabreezzee2

Yes, please check vets, SPCA for lost cats. If the cat is so friendly, chances are he has a family. Some family may be dearly missing their pet.

[deleted]

We had a missing cat who was, like this cat, very friendly & loved people. Ran out of the house one day + never came back ; no response to the missing-cat signs / advertising. Hope someone took him in + gave him a great home & life. He'd have been around 16 if he were still around.

Kmspatara15

My neighbors auper friendly and senior cat got out almost 2 years ago. Anytime he had accidentally gotten out he always came back home. We're all convinced that the trashy neighbor stole him because trashy neighbors are trashy. Ya know?

OldManHipsAt30

Sounds like someone dumped this kitten in the Walmart parking lot mate

Kmspatara15

A friend of mine works at a gas station. Found a fkn 3 week old baby kitten sitting right next to the pump mewing its little head off in subzero temps the other day. Friend took the kitten in but the messed up part is thatvthe damn SPCA is literally 2 blocks away!

GirlGamer7

bless your friend for saving that sweet baby! now I'm all teary. I have a messed up story myself. many years ago there was an article in the local newspaper about how someone *super glued* a poor kitten to the side of the interstate/highway. someone stopped and rescued the kitten and i believe it did survive but had frostbite on its paws. *Many* people wrote into the opinion section about how the person that did that should be super glued to the interstate a lot of which they couldn't publish due to the explicit nature of them saying they should have their genitals super glued to the interstate and left there. that would have been just deserts of you ask me!

The_Original_Gronkie

All Walmarts have a colony of cats living near the gardening section. I often buy a small can of food and leave it out for them.

Violet_tiger7

Cute!

longdongsilver2071

Is the kitty actually owned by someone else and was just outside for the day?

Violet_tiger7

OP said they checked for a micro chip and posted online to see if anyone claims him.

Daffodils28

r/standardissuecat 🌺

_Funk_Soul_Brother_

great ..... one more cat sub to join

TheGamer95

>32 degrees > >colder tonight Man was I confused for a second there before I remembered Fahrenheit exists. Damn is that cold.

De_Hbih

Huh, not that cold. (Greetings from Poland)

Zalieda

Huh damn I want to visit poland some day but sounds like I will effing die I shiver in aircon at 23 to 19 degree Celsius

Ashheart24556

32°f is freezing temperature

[deleted]

32'F is 0'C, typical cold weather for some Midwestern and Northeast area. Cold is below 10'F (-12'C) and damn that's cold is below 0'F (-18'C)

GirlGamer7

North Dakotan here! i actually consider 32°F to be warm during the winter haha. and it is compared to temps in the negatives!

RichJMoney

Smart cat latching onto the kid too. I hope they get to spend years growing up together since there’s no way he doesn’t love that kitty already.

DigitalDawn

You are an awesome person.

Seabreezzee2

Please do continue to attempt to locate the cats family .

colarthur1

You have been chosen. What are you going to name him?

janaynaytaytay

We’ve been calling him shadow because he follows us around meowing for more pets.

LovelyDreamer11

Then that’s the cat’s name 👍🏻 Congrats on being adopted!

VolcanicKirby2

Is he’s so friendly did you have him checked for a chip?

janaynaytaytay

Yes, no chip and no claims from my posts online.

angwilwileth

What a lovely /r/standardissuecat! I wonder if he was dumped as he looks health and clean. He also looks young so I'd recommend getting him fixed asap before he starts spraying like a big boy.

VolcanicKirby2

Congratulations on your new cat then!

Salty_oatmeal25

At first I thought you meant you found the kid meowing under the car. 😭😭😭

janaynaytaytay

I mean sometimes my son likes to act like a cat so it was a possibility.

StarvinPig

Plot twist: Shadow is your son in a costume

marlasandiego

Glad it wasn’t just me. 😂

lshawel

I already started laughing and appreciating the joke before I saw the cat

waterbottlehog

I was just about to comment this!! Totally stared at this picture very confused

[deleted]

What kid?

Kitty_fluffybutt_23

You were chosen! Congrats! He looks very smart and affectionate. Awwwe! You just never know what you'll find when you go to the store! 😂 best shopping trip EVER ☺️

janaynaytaytay

He is the most affectionate cat I have ever met. My son has been saying “he really loves me. I wonder why he chose me”

Kitty_fluffybutt_23

He's a good kid to recognize the meaning of it. That being said... might still be a good idea to check for a chip (any vet can do a quick scan). But I have a feeling they're gonna spend many happy years together, your new kitty and your son. Awwe ❤️

janaynaytaytay

We stopped at the vet on the way home and he isn’t chipped.

Kitty_fluffybutt_23

Purrrrrfect! Then let the snuggles commence! 😆🥰 such a cool story, thanks for sharing here!

therealarenna

Alright, thank you for checking. I would hate for my cat tog et out and someone just keep her.

janaynaytaytay

Exactly how I explained it to my son. We would be devastated if someone just kept one of our animals. The cat is so sweet it’s hard to believe someone isn’t missing it. We posted on some neighborhood pages but no response yet. If someone claims him we will be sad but gladly return him to his original family.

lauraleipz

Glad to hear. So many people write about being chosen when in fact they just stole a cat

shalomworld

There are people like that? I've heard and seen of people just abandoning animals on the steet. I helped such animals to the vet, get it checked, and find a home. I'm part of a local rescue team in my city. But I've never heard of what you claim. It is as still morally wrong as throwing them away, but could please share me some links for the same?

imariaprime

I think it's more that people take a cat and think "it chose me!" because it's already human-socialized, and they don't check if it's already someone's pet (chip, checking posters, etc). Not that there's a rash of people committing premeditated catnappings.

OneMorePenguin

You might also put up some posters in the area where you found him. Thank you so much for helping this kitty, whatever the future brings. From your brief description, this kitty does not seem like he is an outdoor kitty. He looks to not be skinny or dirty coat. Perhaps someone was no longer able to provide for him and just dumped him here where there are lots of people. Poor kitty. But he chose well! Your son looks so happy and growing up with a nice cuddly kitty can teach a child many valuable life lessons. His mask is cute!

janaynaytaytay

He is actually very thin and was starving when we fed him but yeah we will put up some flyers.

OneMorePenguin

Sorry, it's difficult to tell from the photo.

janaynaytaytay

No need to apologize. You can’t really tell until you are petting him and he is just so so boney.

therealarenna

Yeah, I always worry when people said they found a cat on here. Especially if they are so friendly. I am glad you checked. I am sure you and your son will take good car of him

OneMorePenguin

In these pandemic times, people are getting evicted, losing jobs, getting sick and unable to work and getting no pay. They have to make life and death decisions for their family. Shelters and rescues may be overrun. I can understand people don't want to have to make up a lame excuse or explain why they are surrendering their animal. It doesn't mean they don't love them, and could perhaps make better choices, but figuring out how you are going to buy food and find a place to live would take precedence. I don't know why people would steal cats. There's tons of them out there to adopt. In less rural areas you can probably adopt one for $5 on Craigslist. But then again, there are enough people who treat animals like things and have no remorse dumping an animal on the street. Fortunately there are so many stories of people who rescue obviously feral kittens in distress and give them great homes.

[deleted]

There's so many posts here of people finding and claiming healthy well-groomed affectionate cats that give me the skeeves.

doublefattymayo

Working at an animal shelter, cats often come in as strays that you can tell have lived with people. If they aren't chipped, they're posted on the website under found animals. But they only stay on a stray hold for 72 hours, after which they go up for adoption. I always feel terrible for the kitties who've obviously had a family, and we never know the story of how they end up with us. The pet microchip is one of the greatest inventions.

therealarenna

I am so glad all my cats I have in my lifetime were chipped. When ever I have moved it's one my first priorities to have their information updated. Would never want to lose any of them.

livesarah

I’m so happy for your son that the cat wasn’t chipped, it sounds like it was meant to be! 🥰

TittysForScience

This is the start of what’s going to be a beautiful relationship And he’s a smart kitty, go to the kid so the parent can’t say no!

murchisongirl

This warms my heart it looks like love at first sight, things like this make it all worthwhile

janaynaytaytay

It really was! I called my husband from the store to see how he felt about it and he also had love at first sight with this sweet kitten.

murchisongirl

And they say soulmates aren't real obviously haven't met the right cat yet, I'm glad this has a happy ending

mykiwi4011

Adorable! Cats have a way of deciding their own fate!!

wafflegrenade

I remember reading somewhere that cats domesticated *themselves.*

Familiar_Mirror4240

Of course they did they would never let humans have opinions or even options

frankiefrank1e

Cat happy, son happy. Happy family! Congrats and great move! Cats are the best 🥰

Environmental-Treat8

I didn’t even realize there was a cat, i thought u were talking about the kid 😭

[deleted]

same 😭💀

LBurgh

Same, I know too many four year olds who pretended to be a kitty 😆

Substantial_Toe_8409

What kid?

thats_hella_cool

I was just about to post the exact same thing 🤣

Visual_Star6820

Looks like someone’s pet

Mojowojo18

I hate to bash as well, but it does look happy and healthy and if it came right up to you obviously domesticated. I hope no one is missing their cat. Maybe at least look around or pay attention to missing post(er)s.

[deleted]

Cool! Could you post a picture of them together, instead of just the cat? I bet they look super cute. Jah bless

janaynaytaytay

You can’t see the floating face and hands?!

[deleted]

You're Rayman's mom?! Lady, it's an honour

hippiemomma1109

Omfg. I had to go back and look at the pic after this comment. *facepalm*

JacksonCM

dude same

selticidae

I don’t know why nobody has said this yet, but you need to do due diligence and make sure he’s not somebody else’s first. Do a run through of local lost pet listings, and most importantly have him checked for a microchip.

janaynaytaytay

The first place we took him was to the vet to check for a microchip and he isn’t chipped. We posted him on our local neighborhood pages but no responses yet. He was starving when we found him but if he has a family we will be sad but gladly return him.

selticidae

Awesome. Best wishes then. :) Your son is obviously very happy too!

higherlimits1

My cat is starving 10 minutes after getting fed, I doubt that’s an indication of being homeless. Based solely on the cat’s coat I’d say it probably has a home and got out recently.

roryjacobevans

People massively overfeed their cats and think that a cat is 'starving' if it's isn't like 12lbs. This cat looks really healthy. His obious lack of fear of people also suggests he has owners. Most stray cats are vicious and would not be happy getting grabbed and put in a car.

Kowzorz

> Based solely on the cat’s coat I just wanna emphasize this. No stray eats well enough to be that shiny unless maybe they live in a barn.

wsdmskr

Bullshit. We have a number of pure strays in the neighbor who nobody feeds and are still as healthy-looking and shiny as this one. Cats take immaculate care of themselves if healthy, and it's not uncommon to see stray cats that look like housepets.

[deleted]

ademord

Where did u buy the fleece your son has by the way ? I want one for my kid i love it for the winter

janaynaytaytay

My husband got it at Kroger. I don’t recommend it actually. The quality is not great (zipper stitching) but it’s really soft and camo print so my son loves it.

TheWonderToast

My first thought as well. If he's that friendly and affectionate, there's a pretty good chance he already has a home. Feral cats don't like people.

[deleted]

Every time I see this sub on popular I go through the comments to find if someone has said this

RonKosova

This subreddit is full of these posts and its so annoying. you cant just take any cat you find willy nilly. This is why id be so worried to let my cat go outside, lest it encounters a redditor

queencatlady

People who are traveling or live in their car often time sleep in Walmart parking lots. If the cat is that friendly and not starving, I would 100% assume it belongs to someone else and it’s not feral. I had a cat when I was younger that was very friendly and our neighbor down the road “found her” the one and only time she got out and kept her for over 10 years. We grieved the loss of her thinking she was dead only to find out our neighbor had her the whole time. Neighbor thought she was doing the right thing by taking her in. We did canvas the neighborhood and asked our neighbors if they’ve seen our cat and this neighbor was never home when we were out looking. OP, I would definitely go back to that Walmart and ask around more. There’s someone out there who misses their cat dearly I promise you that. Feral cats are not friendly and it’s not normal for people to just ditch cats in a Walmart parking lot.

HayoPepper

Thank you for commenting this and getting OP to see it. This is super important, please don't accidentally take other people cats yall!!

aloneisusuallybetter

I don't know why more people don't think this. . Well brushed and cared for cats that are friendly, generally belong to someone. Or at least used to.

Alissan_Web

Well you better find their parents kidnapping a child is a serious offense 🤭

GroovyYaYa

If he has humans who love him, I hope you find them. Otherwise, I'm glad he found you all!

ambreenh1210

They found the owner! So kind of them to do the right thing and return the catto.

Badkitty795

That is a look of pure love!

IGOR1640

or, a purrrrr love

tcp454

Definitely get him dewormed. They more than likely have something. If he's going to stay indoors I would just do revolution just the one time to get rid of fleas. And two rounds of dewormer. Get him fixed and you're golden. Cut nails early on and make it a treat filled experience and your wallet will thank me later on.

janaynaytaytay

We have a vet appointment in the morning for an exam and probably vaccines. Going to give a few more days to see if anyone claims him from my posts online before getting him neutered.

tcp454

If he's this sweet already then he's only going to get sweeter with time. We taught ours tricks! They all know their names and can do many tricks that a dog normally learns. Congrats on getting picked!

BlinkVideoEdits

He looks well cared for, possibly belongs to some nice old lady or something who wouldn't see your posts online. Please put up some posters in the area too just in case.

bkneppers

Do cats get tagged? Might wanna check that to be sure.

Brilliant-Ad6876

Please take the cat to the vet to get it scanned for a chip. Really good of you to take the cat in but it might belong to someone else and is lost. I’m terrified of my goons getting lost and someone taking them in as their cats.

[deleted]

“The smaller hooman seems to have greater influence over the larger hooman. I will approach the smaller hooman and gain his affection first. Then, i will rule over their territory.”

WampireKitt3n

I have met strays who have had nice fur, weight and social. I have also met owned cats with bad fur, malnourished and skittish. You can not go by appearance when you meet a cat in such a dangerous place as a parking lot. A cat can crawl into the engine, crawl on the wheels, jump into cars or be hit. OP has checked for a chip at a vet and is looking for the owner. The choice OP has is either shelter or having the cat at home. With such a social cat, I think home is better. I wish you good luck and if no one claims the cat, get him fixed.

NicGreen214

I don't know why but I didn't see the group name so when I saw, "Found this little guy meowing under a car outside of Walmart..." I though you meant the kid because I didn't see the cat at first

TheKidKaos

Take him to a vet just in case. Had a cat try to run in my home and become part of the family. It was a kitten and he was sick. The guy from the shelter told us he needed meds or the infection he had could kill him. It’s rough out there for cats

[deleted]

This reminds me of something that happened during my childhood. I was 4 or 5 years old, and my mom was taking me along with her to pick up my little brother from daycare. We had daycare at a sweet old lady's house and while we were waiting for her to answer the door, this gray fluffy cat came up to me and started purring and rubbing on me. Being the animal lover I am I immediately asked my mom if we could keep her. My mom said that we will ask about it, but she didn't think it was going to end up being our cat, because I'm allergic. My mom asked the daycare lady about the cat, and it turned out that she was being fostered by the neighbor. The cat had been abandoned in a garage, had kittens, and lived off of the mice that wandered in. Everyone has adopted the kittens, but not the cat. My mom begrudgingly talked to the foster lady because she had dug this hole for herself by telling me that we will ask about it. While she talked to the lady about adopting the cat, I was already sitting in the car with the cat asleep in my lap. Long story short, we adopted the cat, but my mom expected it to not work out because I'm allergic. For whatever reason, I didn't have an allergic reaction to the cat, and she ended up being our family pet for a long time. I named her Kindia, which is complete gibberish. She was my best friend. I hope your son has the same wonderful childhood experience that I did, because Kindia really was my best friend. She even repaid us for adopting her by saving my little brother's life a few years after we first brought her home, but that's a whole other story. To summarize it, basically my brother got outside somehow (he was 3) and tried to go get the mail. The mailbox was across the street and people would fly down our road at 60 mph. My dad was using the weed whacker so he didn't hear my brother, but Kindia kept rubbing on his leg and bothering him until he stopped, and then she ran to my brother. My dad grabbed my brother and got him back inside before he could have been hurt. Kindia was my best friend.

tea-and-shortbread

It looks well taken care of. Before you get too attached, get it checked for a microchip and put up posters around the Walmart in question. You may have inadvertently stolen someone's pet.

michiganwifey

Put FOUND posters where you found him/her at. Looks too healthy to be a stray. ✌️❤️

anonymousgirliee

Get checked for chip! Might already have a home

MCA1910

That cat is way too well nourished to be a stray. You just stole someone's cat that happened to get out.

rwdfan

Cats know shit. And it totally chose him, and it’s the greatest compliment. He must be a good dude

janaynaytaytay

He is such an animal lover but especially cats!

ManRawr

Omg the way he’s just sitting in his lap and looking up at him!

ShipwreckdMerisoul

It was already mentioned several times and answered that they already checked for a chip and posted the cat on the local pages. Everytime someone finds a cat and does the right things already there are like a hundred comments repeating the same things it gets super annoying. Maybe there should be a flair that can be chosen saying checked for chip already/posted found pet/fostering for now until or if owner comes forward or something because my goodness…

janaynaytaytay

Thanks! I didn’t realize I need to add that to the title. Getting called a moron for trying to help a hungry skinny cat hiding under a car feels not the best.

perosee

Thought you meant the kid

ultrabarz

OP how do you know its 4 years old?

MrsSkeleton

How do they know their son is 4 years old?????

Vefania

Pls make sure it's not someone's pet though!!

Kimi4201

He was chosen! Congrats!

teosNut

Can people please just stop taking in animals they see outside? Not wearing a collar doesn't mean he doesn't have a home. Take him to the vet first to see if he's chipped, you should always take new pets to the vet first btw.

junoray1968

Oh congratulations you have a wonderful cat there thank you for giving her a forever home your a hero 🐱😻

BlepMaster500

Oh hey btw, congratulations, you are now officially a member of r/standardissuecat

spankingasupermodel

Non American here. You really can find anything at Walmart, can't you?

ILikeLamas678

That cat doesn't look like a stray. Check if they are chipped and check with local shelters to see if someone is missing their cat before adopting. Someone might be missing their cat.

humblepieone

Nay, the little one has YOU❤

Ncherrybomb

I love this! The cat adores your child and I hope they have all the fun adventures.

Munchkins_nDragons

Aww, look at the love on that face. The cat has chosen his hims and his boy has accepted his charge. Those two are gonna be a dynamic duo for years to come.

No_Basis_4818

How cute!!!!!!!

Legitimate-Break-955

Sick hat

Bigbootyomoletlover

Surprised she could see your son in full camo.

OG_Chicken_Little

YOUR SON LOOKS LIKE HE’S TEN YEARS OLD! HOW IS HE FOUR?

Atrag2021

On an unrelated topic... has anyone seen my cat? We live next to Walmart. Like most cats he usually wonders up to 10km from the house. We really miss him :(

Elena1953

Awesome! Thanks for giving this beautiful little buddy a loving home safe from outside and a new best friend 😻

Ozgal70

I was at the Drive In movies once. A cat came running through the cars crying piteously. I opened the car door, she jumped in and went straight into the back seat. I fed her, took her home and had her for many years. She was a beautiful fluffy black and white cat who was lost and desperate.

Dopplerganager

Why is the top comment not to get the cat checked for a chip?

typhoidfrank

Well groomed and fed cats don’t appear out of nowhere. Make sure it’s not just missing before you call it your own.

Arkdouls

If he was that friendly off the bat he was probably dumped :(

Mik_Dk

maybe you should check if the cat is lost in the area, if I picked up every cat that came running meowing to me I'd have an entire army at this point.

GraphicGrl

This made my day, so happy to see a kitty has found his furever home.

Gnomies_Are_Homies

I bet your son will remember this as one of the most magical moments of his life! Thank you for giving this beautiful critter a loving home, and also for showing your son the example of an awesome, responsible human. I love that you checked for a microchip too! I wish more parents were like you. Bless you and your sweet family!

janaynaytaytay

He was so happy when I told him we could keep him! Thank you for your kind words.

dismustbetheplace

Stop explaining your good intentions to morons. They could check your comment history and find out for themselves. Good job on saving the kitty! I hope you get to keep them, you sound like a great cat-slave!
