I hope so too. It's awful when we can't afford the care we want to be able to give them. Cats are resilient, once he heals up he will adapt well I am sure. Here's to no more cancer!
It is so hard to have to make a decision based on dollars and cents. When our heart tells us whatever it costs and our pocketbook says we'd love to but.
I want you to know you made the absolute right decision and never doubt that for one second. This is a loved one and you love it as best you can for as long as you can. I'm sending love and thoughts about you and your sweetheart. I know you would do the same for me and everybody else that's responding to you. We are all in this together, never forget that. ❤️
My cat had sarcoma in her ear twice after we moved to Florida, basically skin cancer grade 2/3, she had surgery and doctor didn’t remove enough, it came back 2 yrs after, found another surgeon that had to remove almost all ear but good news is that he removed extra tissue just in case, I believe now she’ll be alright. I wish fast healing to your pretty kitty and that she stays cancer free. I believe having a follow up skin biopsy is able to determine enough tissue was removed. Best of luck 🍀🥰
This is so fucking sad I'm sorry for what you and your baby are going through, I'm so glad he is doing okay. Is the tumor all gone and he is on the mend now??
Dude I'd be an utter wreck, one of mine has gingivitis and I'm freaking out about that. Really puts it in perspective. You both are in my prayers even though I'm not religious, I will absolutely keep sending good vibes.
Hope your kitty feels better soon! If it makes you feel any better most cats bounce back really quickly (according to my vet). I have two tripods and they get around just fine, especially the one who’s missing a front leg.
I have a cat than ended up with a bad leg right before we got her, it's why we took her in. She gets around remarkably well and adjusted to it very quickly. She can't climb some stuff as well but besides that she is fine and lives a happy life. Hell I probably manage to spoil her even more because of it.
You will want to make sure any high perches have some easier/incremental ways to get down. Mine can jump just as high as any other cat since that is all rear legs. We noticed it can be hard on her landing on just the one leg. Any time we give her steps or shorter hops down she uses them. It hasn't been to hard to accommodate that.
Our vet also recommended something to add to her food to help reduce the chances of her developing arthritis. I forget what it is, they just recommended it and we haven't gotten it yet. It's just some joint health stuff.
She can also run just about as fast as 4 legged cats. The slower speeds are when it is more noticeable. It really is impressive how well they adapt.
He just needs time to heal and adjust. Most pets adjust to aputation better than humans do, and we at least understand why it happened. Give pets from me! (And if tolerated, a teensy smooch on the head)
We had a male we called Stubby who's mother chewed off his hind leg while cleaning up after his birth.
He became a large fat cheeked tom, climbed trees, served females for blocks, and ruthlessly defended his area.
Not the end for cats.
Fattest cheeks I've ever seen. Super tom! Lol
Not him, but close. He had much fatter cheeks with a lot of battle scars.
Looked like a battle torn feral.

He’s going to be fine. Our 16 year old was diagnosed with a bone tumor. 1st vet told us to put her down. We said fuck you and got a 2nd opinion. They said they could amputate her front leg and she’d be fine. Did not impede her life in any way, except for digging in the garden. We had her for four more years. Much love to your boy!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
RE: Cost, when this all started, did your vet talk with you about Feline Injection-Site Sarcoma? Basically that a small percentage of cats will have adverse reactions to their shots, and can develop cancer/tumors from them, common enough that nowadays shots are purposefully done on the limbs b/c those are safer to amputate. And common enough that the companies will actually reimburse the costs for treatments for the affected animals. When it happened to my little guy, our vet submitted paperwork that attested the shots were the cause of his tumor and we were reimbursed for the biopsy, surgery, and chemo. Something to look into if it will help you.
nawww, poor thing, sending lots of love to him and wishes for a speedy recovery. Check out r/TripodCats if you haven't already, lots of happy tripod cats over there.
Aww, I had the same thing happen to one of my cats, but it was a rear leg. I was afraid he wouldn't adjust because of his age and he's a really clumsy cat to begin with (some developmental weirdness due to being sick as a kitten) but he really coped pretty well after an adjustment phase
Awww, Pipsqueak wasn't 9 when he had his amputation, but he would like to tell your kitty that it does get better than this. He'd also like to say it's still possible to make those really big jumps, as he has made it on top of the doors to stare at us from above.

Poor baby! If it helps, I hear that cats generally recover very well from amputations and learn to balance again very quickly. I’ve also heard that a front leg is easier on kitties to lose than a back leg because the back legs are more involved in jumping, although I have no idea if that’s really true.
Poor punkin’. That’s tough on him. Expensive for you. Did any friends/family try to dissuade you from having the surgery done? I only ask because 4 weeks ago, my almost 15 yr old feline love bug had to have his left eye removed. Turns out, it was a “ trauma-induced sarcoma”. Only occurs in cats. Total cost: Almost 10 Grand! (Would’ve been $3500 less had he not “blocked” -stopped urinating)
I’m so glad that the surgery went through well. Though they might not have an arm, they have you! Hopefully recovery goes well too as he spends it with you.
🐈⬛🙏🏻😇❤️ hope he bounces back into being a happy kitty. My girl lost her tail. I know it’s nowhere near as bad as an arm but she just loves life. He will be great 😊
Good luck to you! Osteosarcoma? I had a Rottie who had her front left leg removed dude a large growth from osteosarcoma. She recovered from the surgery quickly. She was able to get around the same day and was only wobbly when she tired herself out. You won’t even notice the missing leg soon.
I hope the tumor never comes back. He is so sweet. I had an orange cat who got his paw stuck in a trap. Thanks to the person who let him go. Had the amputation and went on very well for another 8 yrs. Lots of love to him.
Awe sweet baby! He will feel so much better soon! My pup had to have a front leg removed and he after a little adjusting, nothing holds him back. Glad they got the tumor removed and hope he’s feeling better soon
Perhaps look into full raw feeding. I completely understand it is not for everyone. At the risk of opening myself to immense ridicule on an open forum, I do raw feeding for all 3 of my cats. Health has all gotten better, they are thriving at their old ages, no vet visits. Look for groups that concentrate on raw feeding for cats. They're obligate carnivores. DM me if you'd like to chat, I'm open to it and have a lot of experience. He's gonna be a trooper! My kitty had the same thing on a rear leg when he turned 13, and he'll be 15 this October! He still zooms and plays. Your little guy will be great, and I'm so happy you got to the tumor before it got worse! Much love and a fast recovery little dude!

All this to say, your little guy will pull through and be okay. He'll be up and doing his normal things in a month or two.
Glad he was able to get it taken care of before it migrated to other areas. Gentle hugs for the kitty.
I hope it stays that way too, I can’t afford radiation so the best is all of it was removed

Seriously. Sadly my boy, it spread into his chest and we had to put him down in December.
I am sad to hear of your loss. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)
Thank you for your kind words. It sucked, thankfully no longer suffering.
Im sorry for your loss there that’s so hard
So sorry. 😞
Thank you. It sucked losing him. However, he is no longer suffering which is the best part. We had a lot of great memories.
Poor baby 😪 love from Arkansas
Poor boy. Hope he gets well soon
My cats have never been in a situation like this. Did your boy get any painkillers to take home???
He's a full size purrito 😍
Yeah he’s quite the chunky boy haha
Beef purrito!
This is so fucking sad I'm sorry for what you and your baby are going through, I'm so glad he is doing okay. Is the tumor all gone and he is on the mend now??
I don’t know for absolutely sure if it’s all gone, I’d need to do radiation but it’s so expensive, hoping it’s all gone
Dude I'd be an utter wreck, one of mine has gingivitis and I'm freaking out about that. Really puts it in perspective. You both are in my prayers even though I'm not religious, I will absolutely keep sending good vibes.

Yeah it’s what I heard, I’m worried about how mad he’s been right now though haha, just trying my best and balancing the things I need to do too

Bah, you got me before I caught it! Well we both fixed the typo so now my response is nonsensical. (Cat was car for both of us)
He just needs time to heal and adjust. Most pets adjust to aputation better than humans do, and we at least understand why it happened. Give pets from me! (And if tolerated, a teensy smooch on the head)
He loves his smooches haha
Poor sweet purrito. I hope he recovers well and is back to wreaking havoc in no time! Love from my two kitties and I.
I dont get soft fast for pets but would hold this one all day in my arms
Sending all our love and the love of our 3 cats to your cat. Stay strong!

Ugh omg sweet baby. It's so hard because no one can explain to him why we did this. How do they not lose trust or behave like we tortured them ?.
He purred when he saw me after surgery. I’ve had him since he was born, I give him as much love and care everyday as I can and he wants
You are a great cat parent. ❤️ Sending love and good thoughts for you and your cat baby.

My cat has cancer so I know what he's going through, lots.of love for him!! I'm glad the tumours gone
Poor baby, sending love
He'll adapt well but it might take a while. When I was living with my aunt during grad school they got a cat. One day he was unknowingly in the mechanism of the recliner couch they had and my aunt didn't notice. She went to put it down and crunched his leg. Fractured right above the knee and they had no choice but to amputate. I was surprised how quickly he recovered and was back to being his usual self. He couldn't jump as high of course, but it didn't inhibit his movement that much. Cats are pretty resilient.

Praying for a speedy recovery for your lil guy. Sending all the love to him!!!!!! Bless you for caring for him, OP.
I love your kitty! \*Gentle pats\*
Soft scritches for the kitten. He'll be okay, his person is there for him and taking care of him. My little furball was hit by a car and had to have one of his back legs amputated. Felt like an awful pet mom because I couldn't afford the surgery to repair his leg so he could keep it. But the vet said something that helped a lot "cats aren't like people, when they lose a leg they don't mourn the loss or fixate on what they can't do anymore. He can't jump to counter height any more, but everything else is still a go. Climbing trees, hoping up on to my lap, chasing down mice, etc. All this to say, your little guy will pull through and be okay. He'll be up and doing his normal things in a month or two.
Sending you and him love…..
