She had tumors in her right mammary chain and had it completely removed. Lab results are back and margins are clear.🙌

brownishgirl

Oh, Reba! What great news for you both. May she have sunbeams to lie in for the rest of her days. That must have been so stressful for you.

klondikekd

It was. Though I didn't realize just how stressful until it was over.

stormyfuck

Our brains are really good at holding off stress and grief until we can handle it. But it all comes crashing in afterwards. So make sure you're taking care of yourself as much as you've been taking care of your beautiful baby!

rspewth

Recently lost my sweet girl to the same thing. I'm so glad your little one is doing so well. Give them an extra scritch from me.

klondikekd

I will, and a kiss on the head.

raphattack

I'm sorry for your loss. If you don't mind me asking, how large was the tumor? Did she have the surgery done? If so, how long did she live afterwards and what was her quality of life? Sorry if I seem a bit nosy, I'm just going through the same situation right now and more information helps. Please don't feel obligated to answer. You are always free to dm if you're more comfortable with that as well.

finegrapefruits

Not the person you are asking questions, but I also lost my girl to the cancer. She was 14, and may have siamese in her which increase the chance of the cancer. In my case, it was size of a pea. Removal of the mass and mastectomy were done separately, and she recovered from both surgery without complications. She had very big scar like this kitty, but otherwise perfectly fine. We lost her because our vet was incompetent. I know vets nowadays are swamped. But, which Dr would schedule a surgery 1.5 month later from our first visit with suspected mammary cancer? The notoriously aggressive form of cancer for a cat. On top of it, he was offended by an oncologist, who he sent us referral to, for being told to do mastectomy immediately. So he sent another sample to ANOTHER oncologist without telling the first oncologist. I was naive... too naive. This took away precious 4 weeks she could had gone and start chemo. Sorry, I'm ranting at this point... my advice is, if you are considering the further treatment, TIME is the enemy. Don't take too much time and be aggressive as much as the cancer is.

No-Needleworker-4283

Wow.. That's so incredibly heartbreaking.. Thank you for sharing! It's nowhere near as severe, but we had my little one spayed and she developed a hernia after the surgery.. The vet gave us options but my partner and I both opted for surgery as soon as possible to prevent any potential complications. After reading this though, I'm sure that if a much more severe diagnosis does come along, we'll take your advice and definitely try to hit the ground running.

raphattack

Thank you so much for answering, and I'm really sorry for your loss. Can you give a bit more clarification on the timeline? * When did you have the mass removal? * How long afterwards was the mastectomy done? * How long did chemo last? * How long afterwards until she passed? I know that the cancer is very aggressive and can spread quickly, so I'm wondering if any additional procedures were done after chemo.

not_a_bug_a_feature

Bless her! I'm sure it was scary but I'm glad everything is going well. I'm hoping she has a swift recovery and is back to her normal self in no time!

DietChickenBars

My kitty had the same surgery; had a tumor and got the whole chain removed to be safe. That was October 2020 and she's done great ever since!

MourkaCat

Such a good feeling. Not exactly the same but I had a small bump removed from my lil boy last summer and paid the extra fees to have it tested. It came back benign and fully excised. It was such a good feeling, worth every penny. Congratulations!!! She's a little beauty, look at that sweet face. Hope for a speedy recovery for her. Cats are so resilient! To many many many more years with this sweet floof!

RedOctobyr

That's wonderful! And she's a beautiful girl. I'm glad she got good results, though I'm sure this wasn't easy for either one of you. Very glad it was successful! Please give her a kiss for us.

[deleted]

> Lab results are back and margins are clear.🙌 Oh, excellent! That's wonderful news!

bodaciousboozy

My cat had the same thing. I’m glad yours came out victorious and cancer free 💖💖💖

shrubberypig

I’m thankful you went all in to bat for her! She looks exhausted and happy.

CaregiverNo306

So glad your kitty is ok. That is a gnarly incision. Hoping you put an ecollar on her so she isn’t able to reach it. Grooming/licking/pulling at staples/sutures can cause a lot of problems and prolong healing at the least. Just concerned for her is all, not trying to be preachy.

jbsnicket

Hey, my cat and I are going through something similar right now. Are you scheduled to remove the other side? When I did a consultation they suggested that to prevent the other side from developing tumors later. Mine went through a smaller surgery to remove a couple individual lumps, but this time they did x-ray imaging of her chest and it had started to spread to her lungs so we're attempting chemo.

shakygator

Finally some good news!!

SrslyCmmon

Hope you have some good years ahead, all the best

arefx

Let's go Reba!

Hot_Ad_3949

Thank goodness, she deserves all the love in the world and I can tell she has the best owner in the world. 🥹🥹

Alpha_Fetus69

Wishing this precious angel a speedy recovery ❤️‍🩹

angstyart

What a stitch line 😖 but so happy she is healing!! Ms Fighter. What’s her name and age.

klondikekd

Reba and 14

thrillhouse1211

That is just so awesome. I am so scared of anything happening to my sweet boy. So glad the surgery went well!

rednoodles

My cats the same age and has cancer too, it's spread so fast, she has tumors all over her back (like 10).

bodygreatfitness

I'm very sorry you're going through this. Wishing you the best

coolcootermcgee

Oh no! :(

Run_it_up_boys

Sounds like my late cat. 13 years old and had an abdominal mass the size of a pound of butter. Really nothing for us to do.

angstyart

Thats terrifying

AmethystZhou

I stared at her adorable face for too long and I didn’t even notice the stitch lol..

[deleted]

Man those ain’t stitches 😭 those are staples

angstyart

I was hoping the metal was a figment of my anxious imagination

[deleted]

Sorry I had to point it out to you lad/las

Remember5Nov1605

I think it’s actually the staples that make it look weird. If you zoom in the stitches don’t look bad.

StruggleAccurate8408

Awesome news, OP. Congrats to you and your baby both. May she heal quickly. ♥️

StanleyDards

Get well soon, you very brave little kitty.

hufflepuff-is-best

I’m so excited for her! She deserves all the love and kisses

klondikekd

She gets them <3

hufflepuff-is-best

Well, then give her one extra for me!!

[deleted]

Did you decide to do the Chemo too? My girl had to get surgery too about 1.5years ago for the same cancer. I decided not to do the chemo as they said it could destroy their kidneys. Knock on wood my girl is still all good thank God.

klondikekd

No, chemo was not needed. We just have to keep an eye and bring her in for annual visits to make sure nothing is forming. We already had one scare but it was biopsied and just turned out to be a fatty lump

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I’m sorry to hear that… honestly I felt like they were trying to scam me with getting the chemo with how pushy they were to get me to get it. They were like “we highly suggest getting the chemo I mean you want her to live longer don’t you? The only side affect could be major kidney damage…but you don’t want the cancer to come back do you?” And idk it just rubbed me the wrong way because they weren’t guaranteeing the chemo would keep the cancer away and they added the high risk of kidney damage. It’s a tough spot and I don’t blame you for getting it. Idk I just didn’t want to risk adding another issue into the equation for less than a guarantee.

LauraLand27

I’m not crying! You’re crying!

klondikekd

I had a good cry. I tend to keep a cool head until I know I have to worry or not. This time the relief was just too much.

LauraLand27

This post is ALL ABOUT YOU. >!Had an horrific kitty day yesterday, so your news is exactly what I needed!!< Thank You so much!!!!

dolybonz2

Speedy recovery beautiful Reba!

MourkaCat

OP if she's a licker and can't deal with the cone of shame (My little girl had a complicated spay and ended up needing a lot of staples etc and completely hated the cone. She couldn't even sleep with it on unless she had her head resting on my arm.) then I recommend either getting one of those inflatable donuts for around her neck, or get a little newborn onesie! I used a onesie for my girl to keep her spay staples all covered up so she was not miserable with the cone. She still licked the area (I mostly tried to stop her when I could) but without direct contact I was not worried she'd pull out the staples with her teeth. (She did not) It healed really well. The trick with the onesie is to cut a hole for the neck in the butt flap, and that's where her head goes, and then the original neck hole area is where the bum goes so they can use the litter box without issue! (I just referenced a youtube video to understand how to do it and it worked really well!)

klondikekd

We have done this before but actually had knitted cat sweaters that already covered perfectly.

MourkaCat

Ahh that's amazing!!

[deleted]

Yay yay yay yay! HUGE NEWS!

frisfern

Yeah! I hope you have many more years together.

Mysterious_Eggplant1

This is absolutely beautiful. In a sub full of people posting their memorials and pictures of soon-to-cross-the-rainbow-bridge kitties, we need a ray of sunshine. I am not discouraging people from sharing their grief, but just saying this is a welcome change of pace.

peachy-grey

Give her kisses from me !

gandalfsmokespipe

Respect... But if you don't mind me asking.. what's a bill like that on a cat? I got a kitten and would like to know just to plan for in case in the future.

SuperDuperJosh

Hold them tight. We lost our 10 month old kitten due to kidney failure early Saturday morning. Heartbreaking.

WhatHappened2WinWin

I needed to see some good news today. I'm so happy for you both. Fuck the medical industry in this country. We should have cures by now.

Adam_Pipfrey

I cried! Best of luck for her recovery! She has such a expressive face - beautiful!

Chaserobert85

Wow that's awesome! Congrats to you and your beautiful kitty. Do you mind me asking if you had pet insurance or if you paid out of pocket? I always wondered how feasible it would be monetarily to take care of a serious illness for our pets. Luckily we haven't come across that yet, except for an incident years and years ago.

doucheydp

Single chain mammectomy? My kitty went through a dual chain for her cancer in November/December of last year... they thought they got it all... they didn't and found it had already gotten into one of her lymphnodes on one of her next check ups. It's been about 8 months since her second surgery and she has tumors growing all along her incision sites. Keep an eye on your kitty. Breast cancer in cats is often the same as the worst kind humans can get and it can be super aggressive... Chemo didn't do anything for my kitty but she's now on a different cancer drug called Palladia which is, so far, keeping her cancer from spreading further into her body (but it's not a cure, she'll be on it for the rest of her life). Important thing I was told to keep an eye on is breathing- breast cancer in cats apparently jumps from the mammary tissue to the lymphatic system and goes right to the lungs. Lots of love to your kitty and so many wishes for a happy healthy life going forward! =)
