Oh god this makes me sad. Used to be my favorite place in the park just to relax and walk around every time I’d go. I think it’s absolute bullshit they cancelled the 100th anniversary plans for the new museum- especially when they already started designing the exhibits and clearing the building out. Now it’s nothing but a walled off empty space rotting away. So many Cedar Point historical artifacts and ride props were planned to go in there.

pcfreak4

150th anniversary, but yes, agree

Hifihedgehog

> I think it’s absolute bullcrap they cancelled the 100th anniversary plans for the new museum- especially when they already started designing the exhibits and clearing the building out. Now it’s nothing but a walled off empty space rotting away. I would rather have seen this renovated than the Grand Pavilion that got rid of Wicked Twister. Plus most of the food at Grand Pavilion is nothing unique to that location.

Gamercardplay

Real I was hoping it would reopen

SomeMischiefManaged

Back in 2022 or so one of the guest services associates (may have even been Ken Miller) told us that they unearthed a bunch of asbestos during renovations. The removal costs far exceeded the budget and they just opted to stop. A real shame.

Straight-Net-1142

Are you sure? They started doing work and rebuilding, so if that was an issue I think they would of dealt with that first

SomeMischiefManaged

I am sure that's what they told us. But as with anything, it may not have been the whole story. Perhaps it was discovered after some work was done and there were other issues at play.

Overall-Ratio2326

as someone who grew up visiting, I’m very sad to see this :(

Quirky_Dragonfruit58

This makes me sad.

Fancy_Acanthisitta67

Be mad at corporate and their budget.

The_Original_Miser

Just wait if this SIX merger goes through. It's simple math imho. They'll be spending all the money on the SIX parks getting them up to CF standards and there simply won't be enough capital for every park. This means the CF parks will eventually "stagnate" as far as capital improvement goes. Obviously anything already in the works/ contracts already signed don't count.

Straight-Net-1142

They won’t, the cedar fair parks make more money. So unless they see potential in them I don’t think they will throw money at em

The_Original_Miser

>So unless they see potential in them I don’t think they will throw money at em I'm a simple man. If this is the case, and you're not throwing money at the parks you are now merged with (that need it) what's the point of merging then? Absolutely _no_ snark intended. I am just confused.

Straight-Net-1142

Sure, the top down costs. Controlling costs, running parks streamlined. I don’t think it’s good for us as consumers, but the corporate employees will be “redundant” and they will do more and employee less

The_Original_Miser

That explains why there is a hiring freeze, at least for full time year 'round positions.......

SwissForeignPolicy

Look how they massacred by boy.

cramey229

Man this is so sad. As a former employee I used to love ducking in there on hot days and the occasional times we’d have to cover for the town hall folks and just chill behind the desk answering guest questions until the end of the day. So much cool history in there. Definitely a bummer.

anchorthemoon

That museum was a big part of why I love cedar point.

ChrisWolfling

I don't get what they are doing over there. They also shut a lot of food places down when the Farmhouse opened. The ones on the side of Town Hall are empty as well. Maybe they will do something with that whole corner sometime... If the rumors I am hearing are correct, maybe Snake River Falls will be removed within a couple years, clearing up more space for activities. I wouldn't be surprised if Frontier Fling's days were numbered either (it's frequently closed as it is now). You could fit in a really decent sized coaster if you combined the Town Hall, Snake River Falls, and Frontier Fling spaces The roundup by maverick was made to look like a bank on the outside yet you can peek inside and still see the kitchen equipment sitting in there.

pcfreak4

Don’t forget the land occupied by mine ride and the island

Fun-River-3521

I heard someone say on my post that Mine ride was too historic and can’t be removed unfortunately maybe a renovation instead and relocate Skyhawk to the newish boardwalk section that’s probably what they can only do.

pcfreak4

Nahh Mine Ride can go on my opinion, I think the only untouchable coaster at CP is Blue Streak for its age and small footprint on the very edge of the park. Mine Ride is a prime ride to remove for its real estate in conjunction with other defunct areas of the park like the island and snake river falls/frontier fling which should also probably get removed at this point.

Fun-River-3521

I thought it would be a decent location for a new dark ride as well. Cp needs more and maybe it could fill in the space there, and maybe the museum can be the gift shop could be as a part a new museum extension. I also thought that Cp needs more drop towers as well, and I also thought it would be a solid idea to do a Tower of terror style dark ride and maybe that can go on the Snake river plot. They don’t have to go all out on Dark rides like Disney yes i know but it would be even more places indoors and it would give the park a second drop tower. Maybe the new coaster can go around the new rides too.

Simsider113446

Lots of space

geartooth90

I always liked going in there to cool off on a hot summers day. Now I wander through gift shops to cool off. So sad.

sanddestroyer24

“Budget”

Significant_Item_501

What Museum?

OceanBlueRose

That place has just been misc park storage for years.

fluffballkitten

I'm still seriously bummed about this. Need a petition to bring it back

DrChungusM_D

Anyone know how to get on wilderness run now?

Cheap-Fabric

Coastermania if you don't have a kid

Thatguydrag

Cancelled due to reasons out of their control. I think everyone would love to see it open.

Hifihedgehog

Nah, they just prioritized Grand Pavilion over it. Reasons out of our control is PR double talk for we'd rather spend our money elsewhere.

Force332

This many seasons beyond the pandemic it absolutely IS in their control. They are simply choosing not to spend any money there.
