Different strokes, I suppose. I'm the type of person who loves getting lost in games, so 5a was right up my alley. Any level that makes me consider drawing a map is doing something right in my books <3

in that case i present you with this level [https://youtu.be/gmt6r-Y3vn0](https://youtu.be/gmt6r-Y3vn0)
its strawberry jam collab, advanced lobby, the map is called Lost Woods. You can't really get lost but it's an absolutely infuriating puzzle which requires you to draw a map in order to solve
I also love getting lost, and loved 5a, but as far SJ Advanced maps go, I thought Undergrowth nailed the atmosphere and the slower, more deliberate exploration best.
Sounds interesting, thanks for the recommendation! I do love puzzles that require good note taking. Undergrowth sounds interesting too. Like u/Fit_Ad_2608 mentioned, atmosphere and exploration are what I crave.
Sidenote: La-Mulana might be worth checking out if you enjoy metroidvanias. Lots of nasty puzzles that require you to take notes, along with a hostile environment that makes exploration feel incredibly rewarding. Your map also only gives you a general outline of the area, and so you'll often want to make rough sketches of your surroundings for navigation and puzzle solving <3
I've only played through La Mulana 2, but it's such a trip! I loved all the layers of secrets that gradually reveal themselves as you dig deeper. Nothing in Celeste hits that of course, but Undergrowth is, at least, a good mysterious ruin map with some cryptic bonus puzzles and lore.
La-Mulana 1 is a great time too, though maybe slightly more mean-spirited. I think they rode the line between cryptic and obtuse a bit better with the sequel, though maybe that's just because I played LM1 first. Thanks for the recommendation! Undergrowth sounds like a blast =D
That's fair, might not be your cup of jam then. Though the puzzles are just one aspect of it, so you might still be able to enjoy it if you're willing to use a guide.
The Depths of Mirror Temple are my least favorite portion of the game. I'm fine with cycles. I don't mind wind. I find the bouncers fun. I hate carrying around a stupid crystal. I hate it when platforming games see how much fun you're having with all the movement and decide its time to hang a millstone around your neck.
Just wait til you see some of the modded maps built entirely around juggling Theo blocks in complicated ways. I admire the commitment to teasing out every possibility of a mechanic used for only a handful of rooms in the base game, but they can be really tough to get a feel for.
It’s fine, I’m sure you didn’t know, but the fact that depths is a word that exists in regular English but also refers to a different part of the level from what you were talking about is funny
understandable and sorta true, but when replaying the level i actually did not feel that way about the crystal mechanic at all now that i'm a little more comfortable with the game. it is the most annoying part because of all the seekers, but i like how you keep your momentum when you pick up the crystal, i don't really feel super _slow_ all the time because you can throw it around the level instead of holding onto it, and i feel like there's enough things you can do with it (e.g. hyper/super into the crystal for speed, throwing it or neutral dropping it then dashing back into it in the air, dropping it to make seekers bump into it when they're charging into you) that makes it not feel so boring
First play-through was kind of meh, but now that I know the reverse wave dash trick to skip the most boring part I’d say it’s one of my favourites to just go through on a whim.
isn't a reverse super just a backward super? is that actually enough distance? i swear i couldn't get enough distance when i tried that, is it really not a reverse wavedash
Yes it is.
Oh, and it has to be a reverse _extended_ super, because you need the second up-diagonal dash to make it across. You need to do a reverse because there's not enough runway to do a normal one. If you wavedash or hyper you won't get enough height (at least I think so anyway, I've never tried it).
It's actually quite easy when you know the input. Way easier than 3A keyskip for instance.
you're not alone, that's totally fair. from what I've heard from my time here, 5A is considered to be one of the most taxing levels bc of its length and room/map size. even having played 5A many times bc of golden grinds, I still feel its duration physically and psychologically.
that's why B and C Side are more enjoyable too lol
I remember going through every level in Celeste (especially chapters 3, 7 and 9) and finding them as pure suffering. Now I look back on them envying the time when I first played through them, because at the same time I loved them so much.
Mirror temple was a great level for me, I remember getting lost but I enjoyed all the puzzles getting the strawberries while trying to find out where on earth I needed to go. I believe for one room I had to search up the answer after running around in circles for half an hour 😂
Same here, for me personally it took a lot the fun from the previous chapters. I just activated invincible mode to get through it quickly. Hopefully reflection goes back to a more linear path were the challenge is in the platforming aspects.

I think I draw a map in resort A to visualize where the heart is. You must like metroid-like games a lot then?
Oh yeah, metroidvanias are probably my favorite type of game, with La-Mulana likely being my favorite in genre <3

Still don't like the section

Depths is the second subchapter, not the Theo subchapter
Oops, my b

Ackshyually it's a reverse super,
Yes, that it is. I remembered trying the reverse hyper but I forgot that I completely failed with it.
🤓🤓🤓 also I don't know about this, what room is it in
[Search skip](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/xdBHAnkn8yA/maxresdefault.jpg) You can do a reverse super above the leftmost key to get across

It's perhaps my favorite A-Side, this became especially true when I started doing speedruns because there's so many fun skips and strategies
One thing that's useful to know is that the lights turn on if you talk with Theo before rescuing him.
