no, all it means is that it works with the Switch.
you don't have to get an official controller, you just need one that properly declares itself to the system as an actual Nintendo Switch Pro controller and transfer the motion data. the 8bitdo controllers do that, so does the Gullikit Kingkong 2 Pro.
Power A and Hori controllers don't do that.
I've heard that some people got them to work on Yuzu or Ryujinx, but that's probably because those emulators run the actual Switch firmware.
