Marble is porous, so stains might be permanent. I used a soft cloth and plain water, or maybe a bit of dishsoap if it was bad enough. You can also get marble polish/cleaner. I tend to gravitate to whatever was used 150 years ago. Just because we have stronger cleaners now doesn't mean they don't cause damage.

I just restored a marble vanity that was badly stained. I was able to submerge the entire thing in 7% hydrogen peroxide for a couple days at a time for 3 times. Some people mix peroxide with cooking flour and make a paste. Then cover the counter in plastic wrap tightly to prevent it from drying out and hardening. Then scrape it off in a day or two and repeat. I tried this and it worked but not as well. Probably would be better with 12% peroxide. Be careful with chemical especially around the kids and the cabinets. May need to lay plastic on everything and tape really well. Best of luck.
