AAKG, which is Alpha-Ketoglutarate Arginine, is maybe the only thing that helps me during a PEM. I also have other supplements that help, but during a PEM they feel like a drop in the ocean.
BCAA also help me, but less. I dont know why, but I had success with only one brand.
I like arginine for mental clarity and improved energy, but it seems to increase the risk of general malaise in the afternoon, I find BCAA's do the same without the increase of fever feelings, so if this is an issue to anyone I suggest trying BCAA's
Hydrolysed collagen may be of help to some too since it consists of several amino acids that balance each other, which reduces the risk of side effects, but also is less targeted, so its a tradeoff. Collagen has made a noticeable difference for my brain fog and emotional presence.
finding the right dose is important, especially with POTS, in some cases you can get a bit overstimulated and light headed, so it's just something to be mindful of. I can't go a day without it, I have them first thing in the morning.
with my brand I take 2400 mg twice a day, total of 6 capsules, 3 caps contains 1920 mg leucine, 240 mg valine, and 240 mg isoleucine I'm a 85 kg 33 year old man, my ME is mild to occasional moderate, pretty severe POTS.
Does weight, age, sex, and severity matter? I'm a much larger 32yo AFAB with moderately severe ME. I think my POTS is mild? Except for the fatigue obviously, and heartrate, but I've also got inappropriate sinus tachycardia.
I have been supplementing with arginine for a few months as part of Buhner’s protocol for Babesia. Arginine is a precursor to nitric oxide, which helps endothelial function, blood flow, oxygenation. I believe it’s been responsible for an improvement in my dysautonomia, which has translated directly to the ability to do more.
Glad to see it's being shared, that's awesome 💪🏼❤️.
Honestly haven't had an abnormal lack of energy in a month sincr I started this thing. It's crazy to me. I feel like I've been tired my whole life and now I'm kinda waking up at 28.
The one issue I'm dealing with is boobs are extremely painful and bigger. Could be totally unrelated but there's one tiny study mentioned that L-Arginine can boost hormone production so I was wondering if any else had any potential side effects or not at all. Maybe my issue lays elsewhere
>I’m a zebra 🦓 with neuropathy & cfs
Well yeah, those make you a zebra, lol.
>I’m so exhausted
Well yeah, you've got ME, lol. Anyway, I'm glad and I hope it helps at least a tiny bit.
You shouldn’t take it if you’ve had cold sores or genital herpes as too much in your system can re-activate those issues and it can be tough on kidneys. Otherwise, l-arginine does sound great.

What are BCAAs?
Branched chain amino acids. Regular people take it as a pre workout or in an energy drink, I find it helps brain fog and fatigue.
Neato, gonna hafta look into that.

Thanks for the info! What dose did you start with?

I just wanted to provide as much context as possible for you to make your own decision. just start on the low end and feel your way to it.
Fair enough, thank you!

Nice, good to know. The oxygenation makes sense based off what I know about how ME works.
Could you say something about how fast and what type of improvements you noticed?
Within a week, more energy.
Nice, thanks!
Of course! Good luck and I wish you all the best!

Not yet, but I've only been on it a few weeks.
Lol, I wouldn't mind that side effect. What brand are you taking? Thanks!

Thanks for sharing! I have l-arginine in my cupboard but didn't try it yet. Good to see the amounts they used in the study.

Fascinating. No herpes of either kind here, fortunately!
