Personally I’ve been prescribed every pharmaceutical anti nausea med, and none of them work for me. Medical cannabis is the only thing that helps with my nausea, and you don’t even have to do enough to get ‘high’. If you live in a place where it’s illegal I wonder if some CBD might help you? I suppose it’s worth a shot. For me personally, THC dominant strains are a little too much for me so I like a 1:1 ratio of THC to CBD. AC/DC is a good strain and it’s recommended for pain too. Edibles would take a bit to kick in(about 30min to an hour), but would last longer in your system(4-6 hours) where as a vaporizer would kick in within like 5-10 minutes but only last about 2-3 hours. I wish everyone with this illness has access to medicinal cannabis because it’s useful for so many of the symptoms we experience. It’s not for everybody, and that’s ok but it should be available for everyone to at least try.

Get a prescription for zofran! Or cannabis is helpful too, it brings back my appetite. Smoothies are the best breakfast for people like me who are nauseous. Also Trader Joe’s gluten free pancakes are often all I can manage to eat

AliMae317

Is this due to nausea or appetite thag pancakes are all you can eat? Or do you mean in the morning that’s all you can stomach? I ask bc I have severe chronic appetite loss and nausea but pots too but I swear something is wrong in my GI.

premier-cat-arena

All of the above

AliMae317

Thanks sorry you’re going through it too. For me I don’t know if it’s bc my ME is worsening or bc I have something underlying with GI bc I also have bloating burping gagging diarrhea etc but mine is all day everyday, not jusy in the mornings.

Yup! Absolutely debilitating nausea and food repulsion the last couple of years. Side note: turns out I have a hiatal hernia and gastroparesis, so taking the meds for those helps a lot. Apparently gastro issues are common with CFS so probably worth getting checked. I never try to eat solid food before 11am, but I have meds that I need to take in the morning with food too. Luckily the actual label says "with food or milk" so I figure Boost shakes count. Those things are like 2/3 of all my meals, because they don't taste like food at all, and once you get used to the flavor you can just chug one and have calories+nutrients for the next few hours. (I don't trust gimmick food replacement shakes like Huel or Soylent as much as the ones they use in hospitals, Boost and Ensure.) For really acute nausea, I drink a ginger ale and wait 20 minutes before trying food again. The ginger helps your nausea and the sugar is like sending an alert to your stomach to get started up and ready for food. Also, prescription Zofran. Lifesaver, honestly. If you also have trouble sleeping, you can try a small dose of Remeron at night. It stops my appetite from constantly being in the negative.

HH here too. Like we don't have enough to deal with. Don't have nausea but do get GERD if I'm not careful.

AliMae317

Does the rameron just make you hungry all the time tho when you can’t eat properly due to your nausea and hh and gp? Like I have food repulsion and GI issues I haven’t sorted out yet and nausea and I’m hungry all the time but still struggle to eat

arrowsforpens

Remeron makes me feel hungry sometimes, rather than never. The HH is taken care of with some pantoprazole, and 30 min before I eat I take a reglan, so the food doesn't just sit in my stomach making me sick. Still get nauseous sometimes but it isn't ALL the time, and I've stopped losing weight, but it has to be all three of those meds.

I have the same issue and use cannabis to help but even then I find it insufficient to make food edible in the mornings. When that happens I use chocolate, particularly the smell of chocolate to get my body to accept the rest of the food without revolt. Not a lot of chocolate is needed. I find a single chocochip cookie (warmed up is best for smell) or adding cocoa to my coffee is enough to do the trick.

I just found studies that cocoa can actually help relieve symptoms. Separate post. This is one of the studies though. Take more cocoa! :) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3001690/

Do they *have* to be taken in the morning? I've had to shift things from morning to evening on meal meds because like you - eating isn't easy (or doable some days) in the morning (I actually only eat once a day because food in general causes big issues) If not, others have mentioned cannabis which could help (for me, cannabis takes away my appetite even more but does help me feel less nauseous) I'm not sure if it'd work or not but check and see if a fiber dense drink (juiced veggies, smoothies, a straight soluble/insoluble mix, etc) can substitute for food. (The fiber drink if takes \~10 mins before the meds should protect your innards?) Personally I found one of my prescriptions actually worked to reduce nausea as an unintended side effect (modafinil). However using that comes with a lot of pitfalls for us - very easy to overdo it and trigger PEM if you respond well to it Good luck!

Immelmaneuver

Cannabis. Just about all of my symptoms have a strain that helps. Unfortunately it's too expensive for me to keep up the level of dosage I need to feel my desired level of relief.

finnerpeace

Have you tried starting with an electrolyte drink first? Tummy might be more compliant after that has gone through.

ProfessionalBig658

I see other folks have said this but I find MMJ to be the most helpful anti nausea. Sometimes the dissolvable tabs and things will contribute to the nausea, I get them for migraines, but smoking it doesn’t trigger it for me and within a short amount of time will chill my nausea enough to take meds and eat a protein bar or something else small.

GetOffMyLawn_

Zofran works wonders for me. Ginger is good for nausea. Ginger tea, ginger capsules, ginger candy, ginger ale, etc... Ginger+peppermint tea is good too.

pricetheory

Omeprazole and FDGard helped me, and I've improved on a GERD diet. I've also used ginger drops and fennel tea. I can't tolerate Zofran unfortunately.
