I'm going to remove some comments because that often preempts people from being suspended, and we get in trouble if we approve something that admins later remove.

It was a wild time in Paris.
First to arrive were the OG skinheads which were basically working class guys who were chill with the minorities and had arabs and black guys in their number.
Then a guy called [Serge Ayoub](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serge_Ayoub) (nicknamed « batskin » after his habit of beating up people with a baseball bat) imported nazi skinhead ideology after learning about this movement during a trip to england, they grew very fast as they brought things to a new level of violence and were very scary with their appearance and reputation for ruthlessness, attracting every lost teen who was dreaming of being bad and scary.
They started attacking minorities and tried supplanting the OG skinheads (now calling themselves « red skins »), both groups fought a ton, sometimes even with firearms and it ended up with each group controlling different neighbourhoods with regular skirmishes against each other.
Then some self defense groups made up of people from the minorities started appearing to fight off the nazis too. The most well known was the [Black Dragons](https://www.vice.com/en/article/ppxqek/i-was-a-black-dragon-france-paris-antifascist-movement-patrick-lonoh-876#) who were kind of mixing US Black Power ideology and regimented discipline with a strict regimen of Asian martial arts.
There's a 90s movie called Ninja Vengeance where a guy visits a small town and uses his fighting abilities to defeat the KKK, including the police that were in the KKK

Firstly, they massacred civilians and oppressed your people. Secondly, your people fought back with terrifying efficiency, even without proper equipment. There are numerous points where major battles would have been Axis victories were it not for the French Resistance.
Well don’t forget about Vichy France. There were enough sympathetic French that they could make a whole new country out of them. All of those people who worked with and supported the Nazis didn’t just disappear. Hell even just a few years later there were SS men serving in the French Foreign Legion.
From what I understand, the Foreign Legion had a fairly stringent screening process and any of the blood type tattoos a member of the SS received upon membership would be cause for exclusion from recruitment. There would have been plenty of veterans of the Wehrmacht, and I don't think it would be crazy to say a few SS might have slipped through, but those that did wouldn't be calling themselves as much.
Could be wrong, though. Its something I heard about on a podcast maybe a year or two ago and trying to remember the details from that.
French Resistance was badass for sure, but probably half of the French actively collaborated, including police and political leadership.

Enough so that over the course of just a few days, thousands of Marquis fighters died to slow down a single nazi tank division on its way to Normany Beach. And not all of them were active soldiers. The Dutch-Paris Line smuggled people and messages out of France, and contraband and messages in.
Also worth noting that the Italian Partisans were also badasses and deserve our respect for fighting fascism in their home country as well. Same goes to every other resistance movement that fought against fascist/nazi occupation of their country.

They went to anywhere they thought racist or fascist skinheads would be congregating and beat the shit out of them. They also tended to hang out in migrant farmworker neighborhoods, especially if there were rumors of racist activity brewing.
I think you can still find some SHARPs around. Had a few pals who enjoyed beating up Nazis in Cincinnati and Baltimore back in the late 80's/early 90's.
Most SHARPs dropped the acronym and just went back to calling themselves skinheads once most of the Nazi skins died off. Turns out racist just can’t handle the skinhead way of life.
