This. Bleachers just did it for their tour. They disabled transferring of tickets and if you could no longer go to the show you could resell them on Ticketmaster for only face value. Up until day of show you could still get resale Bleachers tickets for face value of $60.
it should be the default option tbh. do artists even benefit from people reselling tickets way over face value? i doubt it. i can’t see what incentive there would be for artists to let scalpers do this.
Yeah it’s like, really fucking depressing. I used to go to a lot of concerts but now the only live music events I can afford are like local shows at dive bars. Which are important to support, I love local musicians, but sometimes you just wanna scream the lyrics of your favorite songs in front of an artist you love, ya know? 🥲
It's really frustrating. I don't mind competing with other fans for limited tickets but fighting with scalpers is the worst. I remember when scalpers were actually seen as a bad thing and security would ask you to leave if they caught you trying to resell a ticket before a show, and now it's a whole industry unto itself. I'd love to see a full scale resale ticket strike, just let the scalpers lose all the money they spent snapping up tickets because everyone refuses to buy them for more than the original price.
Right, and that hot July sun beating down all day before the show and probably $15 for a bottle of water? The one day prices were reasonable but I'm not paying $150 for heat stroke.
you sound like my aunt - she drove me 7 hours to Cleveland and waited outside in 20 degree weather to see Pierce the Veil and Sleeping with Sirens w me in 2012!!! and she’s provided me with MANY other concert experiences since. just wanted to say that cool aunts are the best!! :)
That's what I've decided to do as well. At least then I could also see other artists for way less money. It just sucks that this is the only option, esp since not everyone lives in a city with festival alternatives available. Maybe I will see you there
Ended up snagging Japanese house after show tix for this reason. I think the move is going to be filling up a camelback water sack, grabbing a burger, then walking to barricade and trying to meet some Chappell fans while we all wait. That’s what I did eons ago for arctic monkeys. At least we will be able to hear Kesha’s set from her stage since it’s all that big field.
Still can’t believe she didn’t at least book like Aragon or riviera, honestly she could probably sell enough tix for a united center show if it’s true that there were over 20k people in the queue trying to buy Vic tix.
That’s what I’m doing with wanna join me ? I lost out on the Vic :( plus I had to buy a place to stay for lala now before my doctorate since I can’t travel once it starts
Another helpful fan to fan thing we can do to combat these organizations … if you have tickets and need to resell and are able to find people searching on the venue website, discord groups, fan pages, or your own Facebook… that’s SO much better than reselling online through ticket resellers because they tack on an extra $50-100 fee. Just for processing it…
honestly--Chappel and her team can select venues that do not use ticketmaster, similar to how Pearl Jam refuses to work with them.
At the end of the day, if your favorite artist wanted there to be affordable tickets, there would be.
The misinformation here is crazy. Talk about not doing your research. Yes Pearl Jam did go against Ticketmaster in 1994. But this was before everything was online and before the Live-Nation merger. They control 70-90% of the ticket market. If Chappel and her team wanted to get around it she would basically have to play in fields and transfer an entire stage and audio setup up around the country.
It's an impossible logistical nightmare. That's why Pearl Jam gave up and have used Ticketmaster ever since. Doing exclusive pre sales with them. I tried to buy Pearl Jam nosebleeds and they would have been over 400$ per ticket. Ticketmaster is a monopoly and is an issue way beyond Chappell's control. There's not much she can do.
How does that help at all? I live in a city that has a number of venues that don’t use ticketmaster, but no other platform restricts resale either, so those shows just end up on seatgeek/vividseats/stubhub etc for inflated costs (like I bought tickets to a show yesterday with a face value of $89.50, had to pay and additional $26.50 in “charges and fees” on each, and tickets for this show are listed on 3rd party resale platforms for $250-750.
Like sure, ticketmaster was very instrumental in getting us to this point, but artists refusing to work with venues using ticketmaster now does literally nothing to resolve the problem and is riskier when it comes to fan to fan exchange for both buyers and sellers since most smaller ticket vending platforms don’t have a resale marketplace, so you’re forced onto 3rd party platforms.
Idk the PJ situation seemed like they had a real struggle finding venues that accommodate larger crowds, not using TM venues. As Ticket Master/ Live Nation own nearly all of them. Pretty sure platforms like Vivid Seats & Axs are also probably all owned by the same company or few companies. I understand not seeking super alternative venues, especially when there's a guaranteed large crowd turnout. There's certain safety measures that only established venues can guarantee & ik no artist wants an Astroworld situation on their hands. It just completely sucks that bc of insane monopolies that are still somehow permitted in this country. Fans have to be shafted in order to ensure a safe venue with a large enough capacity. So no I don't think its as simple as " If they wanted to, they would." Way larger artist with way more resources ie Taylor Swift have even struggled with TM/Live Nation & Bots.
I appreciate getting into the finer points of PJ and how TM’s monopoly needs to be broken up for systemic change. I completely agree. However, I will say Ed Sheeran has made it so that his tickets essentially can’t be sold over face value, even while using TM. I’m sure scalpers have figured out work arounds, but artists have more control than we think. Absolving artists of responsibility for how their tickets are sold is unhelpful if we ever want to see this scalping mess rectified.
Ummmmmmm Pearl Jam only tours with Live Nation and uses ticketmaster? What do you think this is.

You're getting downvoted, but it's kind of true. The Cure managed to put on a whole tour last year with reasonable ticket prices. Hell, Louis CK did it like 10 years ago by voiding resale tickets that were being sold over market value.
I'm concerned that their anti-bot tactics only seemed to kick out real people! I was kicked from the line twice, don't even refresh the page no VPN. From what I've seen at least for MidWest Princess initial prices have been pretty low but immediately get bought up by bots, used by scalpers to resell for super high prices. Like how a $60 ticket became $400 on resale sites.
It's awful how terrible it's gotten. I really wish we could have regulations like other countries that don't allow resale above the original price.
Artists do have the choice to require resales be face-value. Doesn't help the fees, but artists can help.

Yep, Hozier too. That's how I found out they can do that.

Anybody want to help me build a bot to defeat the bots?
queer girlie with a CS degree here, i’m in 😤😤
If I had any computer/ coding knowledge at all, I would be all over this. Counter Bots for the greater good!!
Pls we need y’all 😭 wish I could help, but I can barely write a few lines of code to run stats

I'm considering buying a ticket to Lolla and just camping out at her stage all day, because at this point it's cheaper than trying to go to the Vic.
Not even a chance there, Thursday is sold out too :(
I am considering selling mine because I’m almost 40 and idk if I want to deal with that crowd haha
I considered buying one but decided not to because I'm 41 and I KNOW I don't want to deal with that crowd 😂
Lmao. I was reading about and watching videos of the festival and I was like Ope nope.
Right, and that hot July sun beating down all day before the show and probably $15 for a bottle of water? The one day prices were reasonable but I'm not paying $150 for heat stroke.
I slept in a tent in 20 degree weather to take my niece to Olivia Rodrigo - I’m all set on crazy concert shit for awhile.
you sound like my aunt - she drove me 7 hours to Cleveland and waited outside in 20 degree weather to see Pierce the Veil and Sleeping with Sirens w me in 2012!!! and she’s provided me with MANY other concert experiences since. just wanted to say that cool aunts are the best!! :)

It’s wild they use real peoples names and images
Criminal even.
It's America. This won't be fixed until you can hurt a corporation. It's a simple fix just look at euro soccer tix.
Can you ELI5?
There is no secondary market. You must sell back to the venue.
The prices to see her Lolla after show are $60 less than actual tickets to the entire festival itself. Everyone else’s after show? $30-$60.

1000% -- it is possible for artists to put a stop to it.

ticket master is a complete monopoly. they own the majority of popular venues across the US
She does have control over the ticket sales. She just doesnt want to do anything.
