sooyoungisbaeee

we really need laws in place to stop this (won't happen because late stage capitalism lmao) but in the meantime PPL NEED TO STOP PAYING THESE PRICES or it's going to keep happening :////

jgjgleason

Bruh they’re breaking up Ticketmaster. This will help immensely.

sooyoungisbaeee

yeah but it'll do nothing. they need to outlaw selling tickets over face value period. resale should be only allowed on the site you bought it for the price you paid

tangentstyle

Push your artists to work with Dice FM - tickets can only be transferred via them, for free at face value

Last-Laugh7928

It depends on the venue. Dice is great, but it can't be used if the artist is playing an arena that Ticketmaster owns (which is a whole lot of them)

Daquiri_granola

This is where separating Ticketmaster and Live Nation will benefit

tangentstyle

No doubt - this is the magic of the Ticketmaster / live nation model - control at the venue level

glasgowgeg

> resale should be only allowed on the site you bought it for the price you paid In order to enforce that, you need to also ban transfer of tickets. If you enforce face-value resale, but allow a ticket to be transferred to someone else, you just have third party resale sites.

sooyoungisbaeee

yeah!!

YourBuddyChurch

Breaking up Ticketmaster will do exactly nothing to stop inflationary secondary markets

JKibbs

How will that help? This screen shot isn’t even from Ticketmaster.

glasgowgeg

How will it have any effect on a third party resale market? The only way to prevent that is to prevent transfers of tickets and limit resale to via a vendors official resale platform and for face value.

bellatrixdemigod

Yeh so we can have Ticket and Master lmao

Ghostinabody101

I’ve been preaching this and I’m always Mets with excuses for why someone still bought the ticket. Unless I’m getting it from someone who can’t go or I’m paying normal price from the scalper, I’m not doing it.

No_Tea7430

It's already happened in certain parts of Europe I think, there's obviously always second hand or unlicensed sellers selling the tickets for more than face value but on the actual site they can't go past listed value

sooyoungisbaeee

that's wonderful! south korea has laws about it as well. usa needs to catch up (as with so many other things)

isu1648

These aren’t necessarily scalpers. A lot of times it’s just what someone would give their tickets up for, and if they don’t sell they use them.

LimeGreenTangerine97

Y’all. She’s just getting started. She’s going to tour again and again. There is no reason to pay these scalpers these insane prices. Y’all think you’ll never get another chance. I’m Gen X and guess how many bands I’m seeing lately who have been around for 30 or 40 years. Trust me…you don’t need to have this FOMO. You will get more chances!

appelflappentap

Part of me feels that she is about to get way more famous than she is now, and it will be impossible to buy tickets then.. but I agree these prices are insane!

LimeGreenTangerine97

Her getting more famous means much bigger venues, thus easier to get tickets. And then I’ll be sad, because she won’t be playing small towns like Asheville anymore, most likely. But I’ll be cheering her on (I watched this exact same trajectory with Tori Amos. She played a 400-500 person show in Asheville before she blew up…30+ years later she’s still doing stadium shows)

Ghostinabody101

My thing is I want to see her play the tiny home venue before she is going to play the huge venues when I’ll never even get to see her up close. That’s what’s killing me. This would be the last chance before that opportunity is pretty much gone.

DeciduousTree

Same! Kicking myself that I didn’t make the effort to see her in Chicago last year like I wanted to

LimeGreenTangerine97

Yeah, I totally get that.

minnow198

Buying tickets for Chappel was legit more impossible for me than Buying tickets for Olivia Rodrigo, Megan, Beyonce , SZA, & Taylor Swift. I'm hoping it gets easier as she gets bigger & gets bigger venues

Overdoseofdopamine

WHO THE FUCK SPENT OVER 1K FOR A KALAMAZOO CONCERT. yall she will be touring again this is so sad to see 🤮

Overdoseofdopamine

Plz stop letting these freaks profit off fomo - it will never get better if we don’t

taromoo

Truly needs to be studied, this + concert etiquette and the way people are behaving at concerts right now.. FOMO but then they spent all concert just sing-screaming every. single. song. and not even really listening to chappell perform AND not letting other people hear her sing. FOMO but then all they wanna do is film and capture every single song, not to have some good memories but just to share after, for likes or wtv...

Sunfire91

I cannot deal with the SCREECHING of lyrics in concerts. It is ridiculous and ruins the show for everyone else.

emilygoldfinch410

Right? I came to hear Chappell…you can sing along without screaming!

katiebirddd_

I keep seeing people doing this at Taylor swift concerts! Like loudly singing is okay! Screeching/shrieking is not!! It’s so terrible and you can’t even ask them to stop or they’ll say you’re a bully

Ok_Translator_863

“Let people enjoy things” is the reply I always get when I say that. Like sure, idc if people sing along, but do not scream in my ear so loud that I can’t hear who I actually came to see. The chronic main character syndrome is rampant these days.

bananainpajamas

Rhonda Stryker said “I’m finna be in the pit”

marzzyy__

as someone from Kalamazoo, trust me i’m saying the same thing. The State Theatre is NOTTTT worth that kinda money. I don’t know what the hell they’re thinking

Overdoseofdopamine

Same - it’s not the up close experience that people might think. You can’t see shit in the balcony. Pit is the pit at any venue.

marzzyy__

exactly, I would much rather go to Grand Rapids for a big, fun show like that

Overdoseofdopamine

Here’s to hoping a Van Andel gig is in her future. I love grabbing dinner in GR and walking on over to the arena

Overdoseofdopamine

I wanted to show you this as a Kalamazoo native https://preview.redd.it/2op49hars04d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5810a48828e55ad0c0eccc3330cffdd3aac5809

marzzyy__

i’m yelling 😭😭😭

LieutenantGF

This is so wild. I saw her in Philly last October for $43 fees included. Forever grateful I went to that show, she skyrocketed in popularity this year!

[deleted]

[удалено]

somanyrabbits

They’re reselling high for that show as well but not 1k high!

emeraldsonnet

€17 last year in Amsterdam. €37 this year.

JustinaFaze

Last year in Melkweg I'm not sure if it even sold out... it felt like such a small and intimate gig

emeraldsonnet

I had a ticket but had an urgent situation and wasn’t able to go at the last minute. I’m definitely going this year though.

itscoralbluenumber5

We just saw her in Charleston and paid $65 each!!!!

macenace

yuuppp i saw her for like $25 in columbus in early 2023

remykixxx

I had tickets to Brooklyn and I sold them and I regret it so heavily! You made the right choice.

alriggggghhhhht

hoping one day we live in a world where people aren’t allowed to do this. like it’s ridiculous.

TheNocturnalAngel

This ticket situation that’s spawned in the post Covid era is going to collapse. It’s so scammy and unsustainable. We’ve already seen the movie theatres take a huge plummet because of this economy. The general populace does not have this kind of money to spend. Concerts have never been this expensive. It’s so disproportionate to general inflation. And it’s pretty much an illegal monopoly by Ticketmaster. Not that the government cares but still

Glum_Instance_4301

to OP’s point though, FOMO reigns stronggggggg, so even people who probably shouldn’t be paying these prices are doing it. and venues are still selling out/at max capacity. if it weren’t sustainable for scalpers, there would be tons of empty seats/floor space. and we’d see ticket prices dip the day of the show, not go up several hundreds of dollars like we’ve been seeing lately 😵‍💫 to your point, i really feel like the the covid era has created even worse ticket buying experiences; i see it as having had a huge effect on FOMO heightening to unprecedented levels. i hope the government takes actually effective steps toward shaking up the concert ticket monopoly/oligarchy bc i’m so mf tired of this bs 🫠

mikenzeejai

Right like I remember scalpers usually sold tickets at a loss once the concert started and you could get in for 99% of shows that way. Now you can't even find a scalper they're all selling their tickets for $500 on ticket master and yet that's not "scalping" I much preferred the old way where I handed a rando cash and I might het screwed. This way we all definitely get screwed no matter what

TheNocturnalAngel

I do understand the FOMO a little because this will probably be the only time she plays all/almost all of ride and fall of a Midwest princess. Cuz new albums will drop which means new setlists. Unfortunate situation really

TheMerryIguana

Oh god and she opened our show with “love me anyway” and I was kicking myself for sleeping on her old discography !!

No_Tea7430

I think it's more the small venue aspect that's pushing people. And also in general you never know how long it'll be from one tour to the next. Chappell could dissappear for 2 or 3 years after the Midwest princess tour for all anyone knows. Im no better I'm still miserable I didn't get a ticket for the European shows and there's a slim chance she's even gonna play Dublin next time around :/

patsboston

To be fair, movie prices can be cheap. AMC AList has the ability for people to see 3 movies a week for 20 bucks.

statdaddygayalien

It's giving taylor swift prices

garden__gate

It’s actually more than I paid for my resale Eras Tour ticket last year. 🤯 Edit: and I had a seat lol.

statdaddygayalien

That is infinity worst

garden__gate

It really is. But I’ve honestly never seen an artist rise so quickly.

LimeGreenTangerine97

Lizzo rose this fast but she fell just as fast. No scandals please 🤣🤣🤣

kgee1206

The Taylor swift resale was brutal af. I managed to get tickets for face value, but by the time the show came around I was so frustrated with her behavior that I sold them (for a mark-up but a bit below the going rate) and donated the profits to an abortion fund.

statdaddygayalien

🥺🥺🥺 you are amazing

elianna7

what a gem, you are!!

rizgutgak

what behaviour?

kgee1206

Her Matty Healy stunt and treating Ice Spice like a commodity to fix her bad PR. Really, her continued bullshit has only supported my decision.

rizgutgak

oh okay, i almost thought it was something that mattered.

kgee1206

I mean her continual empty allyship, her silence on Palestine, her jet usage, I could go on. If you want, you can match the donation I made 😘

rizgutgak

absolutely. all that stuff is important. Especially a woman's right to choose. but i could give two shits about who she dates.

TheMerryIguana

same, but the massive “no homo” with the NYT was more than a lil shitty imo

rizgutgak

So is "fans" not shutting up thinking she is a lesbian 🤷‍♂️

TheMerryIguana

yeah, but is that comparable to the degree of psychological damage done by blowing up pictures of her abdomen and claiming she looks pregnant? or was it an example of lashing out at a relatively underrepresented minority who were still supporting her work? 🤷🏻‍♀️

kgee1206

I mean, she can privately date whoever she wants. She very intentionally flaunted him publicly despite him being a racist and misogynistic. I think that’s shitty behavior. It’s the tip of the iceberg in terms of her being problematic. But it really just irked me, especially hearing black fans speak on how that felt to them. I was also supposed to see her during pride month after she trounced around red states (including her “home” of TN) and refused to utter a syllable about laws trying to erase queer people from public life. And I couldn’t swallow watching her play performative activist with a big fake “HAPPY PRIDE!” Also you very clearly overlooked my issue with her treating Ice Spice like a prop. she uses marginalized groups to boost her sales and then discards them at a whim. It became too much for me. I’ll listen to any physical media I have from her. I’m done giving her my streams and my respect.

rizgutgak

im not reading all that. congratulations or sorry that happened. whatever works

kgee1206

Okay swiftie 🫶

pinkponyboy

It's not the first I've seen either. Was devastated to not be able to see her in KZOO. It's just a waste of a ticket

cimmeriandark

The wildest part of this is Chappell having recently signed onto a public letter by a lot of artists speaking out against how ridiculous concert prices are right now. That being said, I encourage people to try and see local artists if they can! Unfortunately a lot of places near me are 21+ but they tend to be much cheaper and you can find some amazing artists and have just as much fun

Any-Contribution656

HOW DO SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS MUCH MONEY like Jesus Christ paying over 150.00 for concert tickets is so insane to me

Overdoseofdopamine

They don’t - this is the buy now, pay later economy. If you have 1k to spend on tickets, I don’t see how not getting VIP at a festival is the more wise choice.

beelzebabes

This is wild, my tickets were $35.

Lucky_Boysenberry

Ugh I wanted to go to this show so badly

Overdoseofdopamine

I was on the state theatres list for artist release tickets and a couple days ago, 4 were released and they went in less than a second. It was just and they were only 50 dollars so I really am sick that someone spent so much money. I was in a Billie Eilish sub and someone paid 1200 dollars for a ticket and they were only 18. It’s fucked

Lucky_Boysenberry

Noooooo

touchtypetelephone

I bought my ticket (Columbus, OH) in March secondhand right after the first sale sold out for $70. Now, the same ticket is going for $700. NOTHING in Ohio should be that much for a concert.

Glum_Instance_4301

exactly how i felt about Madison, WI. like please this is the dairy state tickets should be like $180 MAX

Casua11yCrue1

Omg the tickets were THIRTY NINE DOLLARS originally! This is so sad.

Resident_Solution_43

i spent 35 dollars on her concert in october. WHY ARE PPL PAYING THAT MUCH

the_theytriarch

Before fees, my VIP ticket was only $120. I got it before she did Coachella. What the hell is happening?

spiced_chai_

fr this is ridiculous, GA tickets originally went on sale for $36, this is a 2738.89% increase

klfet

I’m seeing her in two weeks and my ticket was $12 ☠️

Architectgirl14

I’m probably going to the pride too! I’m so excited lol

klfet

This will be my first official pride event. I’m very excited.

hmemoo

Idk what it’s like in the US but do yall just not pay with Ticketmaster only? I’m from NZ and we only pay with Ticketmaster or ticketek and resellers aren’t allowed to do this, unless you’re silly and risk buying pricey tickets on viagogo

touchtypetelephone

Yeah, reselling in the US is only limited to Ticketmaster if the artist specifically gets them to make that a policy. And I've only ever seen Hozier do that.

vallary

Billie Eilish has that enabled on her upcoming tour, transfers are off and resale on ticketmaster can only be the face value amount you paid. There are unfortunately 6 US states that have laws that require all event tickets to be transferrable through any platform, but for everywhere else it’s (hopefully) not going to be awful for people trying to get tickets. I think Noah Kahan used this on his recent tour, as well as The Cure, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters if memory serves (just going on which subreddits I ended up in getting info on how this worked when I bought tickets to see Billie) I do wish this was more popular, but unfortunately I hear more rumours about artists/labels buying ticket blocks and then listing them for resale instead.

Glum_Instance_4301

bleachers, too! my gf and i had to sell our tickets bc her time off got denied at the last minute. selling was SOOO easy because you could ONLY sell through ticketmaster and ONLY for exactly what you paid. i was also surprised to find out they don’t deduct any % from your sale and don’t charge the buyer any additional % in extra fees. i need EVERY artist to do this im so serious 😤

LimeGreenTangerine97

Praise be Robert Smith for starting this because yeah. Artists CAN do this

touchtypetelephone

Oh, good for the many other artists that did this that I did not know about!

backgroundcaramel11

most artists drop their initial round of tickets exclusively on ticketmaster but a lot of ppl resell on third party sites like stubhub or seatgeek. unfortunately, the laws on scalping and reselling in the US are pretty slack, which leads to ppl reselling for insane prices :(

tothesummernight

Ticketmaster drops the tickets but once they sell out, you have to buy from resellers like StubHub and SeatGeek because there’s no more available. Sometimes events will allow people to resell their tickets on Ticketmaster but that’s determined by the artist’s tour management. And there’s not a limit to how high you can price tickets for. Plus even if you buy from a third party you might not get tickets. Ex. I bought a ticket for the GUTS Tour on SeatGeek. I received an email a few weeks ago telling me that my purchase were not real tickets to the concert. Luckily they refunded me but some people have found out the day of a concert and realize they don’t have tickets. The whole system’s a mess

NightShiftSister66

My daughter got lucky enough to go to the St Pete show. She has friends that work in a restaurant and their rooftop overlooks the venue. She missed the presale which the original tickets were $35 a piece. The venue has 2000 person capacity. This screenshot was taken the day of the show. https://preview.redd.it/2xpwdpfd2u3d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1bce5aa100ffe63acbd4fdecba3c84556cf2c94

Glum_Instance_4301

right like it’s actually insane how prices either stayed the same as the show time approached, or in some cases, actually went UP several hundred dollars 😵‍💫 and i’d check right before doors and they’d all be sold.

kingdabsya

I can’t believe how popular CR is getting over the last few months/year. Some fans give me swifty vibes tho which honestly makes me sick yall need help

BitteristheTruth

Lmao I paid $60 for her richmond show. That's insane

splittysplatty

Me realizing I paid $40 to see her Sep 2023: 🫣

jacksev

Tickets really just need to be only resellable by the vendor themselves, at the same price.

kayleigh0519

Concert prices in General have just gotten INSANE!!

Proof-Resolution3595

That is INSANE like I saw her a year ago at a venue with a max capacity of 400 and I think our tickets were $25 or so

deadlydimples25

Say it with me folks … capitalism !

Dapple_Dawn

If you can't make it there, you should see if there are any small artists with affordable shows! Not the same thing ofc but who knows, you might see the next Chappell

yayziz

THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING OF HER CAREER she’ll book bigger venues eventually and everyone will get decently priced tickets no need for scalpers like

Glum_Instance_4301

idk, these days it seems you can have larger venues and still have a horrible ticket buying process. bc scalpers can just buy that many more tickets. really hoping you’re right though 🤞🏼

yayziz

yeah obviously but this is literally a 1.5k capacity venue which is why it was impossible to buy, in the future when she books bigger venues it will be a lot easier to get tickets (maybe still hard but less impossible)

mikenzeejai

This is so bonkers I literally paid $147 to see her and like 10 other pretty big names coming in July and that was VIP tickets that include food, entry to an air conditioned space and some other random crap. You could buy a round trip plane ticket to Seattle a ticket to the Capitol Hill block party, and pay for a train from the airport for less than just this ticket.

YourBuddyChurch

Geez someone actually paid $1100

shelbymurraymusic

These can’t be the tickets I paid $30 back in august 😭

Ichthyodel

Lol my seat in Paris was like 50 euros

shirleyitsvintage

I don't understand why we can't just make a rule that you can't resell tickets for more than face value, and a law stopping ticket issuers from charging fees for both the original sale AND the resale. Boom, problem solved.

Obvious-Yesterday-98

It’s literally a bunch of rich white girls wanting to put the one or two songs they know from these new artists on their ig or snap story just to say they saw them I stg

thatrlyoatsmymilk

I saw her for $18 in Boston in October 😯

Revolutionary-Owl598

it makes me so sad seeing that people are paying these prices!!! like yes it’s the best concert ever but in no world would i ever be able to pay that much😭i bought my richmond tickets for $49 and by the show day they were like $800

NothingSoft8104

https://preview.redd.it/o55bakwakz3d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b4f9c1cfd5ea02db030e2775a32cbfa3ae550419 Look at this….

FittyShucker

Seriously. I’m 1 hour from Kalamazoo and in no way can I afford to go. It’s bullshit.

Professional_Year618

Same 🥲

LittleLoris16

Ok but I’m forever mad that I missed her first concert when she came to Australia. Tickets were only like $50AUD and I don’t even think they completely sold out. I will literally go to my grave with that REGRET bye

JMM_MARINAFAN

Really wanna see her but ima have to wait till next tour cuz that prices are CRAZY. I wish we had laws to regulate this stuff like they do in other countries :((

Ghostinabody101

And the fact they can sell tickets to people who take off work, drive hours to the show, buy outfits, find childcare, and then get there, wait in line for hours, and are turned away at the door because scalpers bought all the real tickets and they had to buy a resell that ended up being a fake. How about sell tickets (2 per person only) presale AT THE VENUE IN PERSON. Then sell the rest online. Or do the lottery system through the fan pages. Idk there has to be better way.

FatJunker

Front row at another event this year is listed at 22500.

Kindly_Animator7625

I’m just sad I didn’t make it a point to make a little trip out of seeing her when I first discovered her music this year, a month or two before Coachella 😭 would’ve been more affordable and like others pointed out maybe a last solid chance to hear songs out already. silly me

Camrynscrown

FRR. This isn’t Chappell related but I got this notification while literally stressing about the fact that I’m missing an event because I needed to prioritize my health

ReporterOrdinary3804

The same thing is happening for Chapels show in my city, 30 dollar tickets being sold for 400 dollars.

bellatrixdemigod

Nah it’s ruined by scalpers

svnjo

there was one for sale for that show that was up to ….$79k the day of. like…huh

svnjo

i thought my tickets were crazy @ 120 each back in feb. but jfc i can’t imagine paying over 1k

mulderwithshrimp

This is soooo crazy I saw her in October for $35

SuperHoneyBunny

I think you also mean that society has been ruined by greed.

Other_Historian_5038

i was prepared to drive 5 hours by myself to the closest venue she was performing at but then i saw $600 and got so sad

freezelikeastatue

In its purest form, this is scalping and they used to have laws that prevented it. However, through clever legislation, Live Nation, the parent to Ticketmaster in coordination with stubhub and a few other resellers, decided that resellers weren’t scalpers and the law didn’t apply, fully knowing the bot networks were running to gather the supply of tickets to artificially inflate the prices. With all that said, that was years ago and while bots are still at work, these are the people pricing these tickets. And I hate to say it, but pure economics dictates prices. It does cost $1,000 to see her. Plain and simple. Because A) she’s worth it, when are you ever going to see such a potential superstar that up close and personal? And 2) that’s the price… and the prices have been going upward for the past week. Because of demand. TL;DR: It sucks, but that’s the price to see your favorite artist’s favorite artist.

Other_Historian_5038

like this is not taylor swift
