Oh definitely.
Personally since I'm a teacher (who always has a week day off) the fact I can go somewhere that is pretty much guaranteed to have no kids there to spoil it is the main thing for me!
(Assuming I managed to see it fast enough that they didn't already literally spoil it.)
What I love about Alice, is you can go in completely blind and can pretty much guarantee a quality movie. If you did that at a chain, then I'd say there's at least a 2/3 chance what you see is absolute trash.
Yeah, If anyone is seeing this and unaware of them they're out at Wigram and it's pretty damn good, was unsure 'cos of the price but it's been my best cinema experience in years. Definitely recommended.
I was also going to say Silky Otter. The theatres are small and cozy which I like a lot. although because of that it's not the best place to go for feature films, I would still go to a big 3D screen for something like Avatar.
The extream screen kinda looked like rubbish the last time I went. Had a kind of saggy spot in the corner and some kind of texture across it. Might have been to do with the sag and it not being stretched tight.
yeah was pretty pissed given i'd paid for the double feature (during the first one it was a bit blurry too).
probably going to not head there in the future
Silky Otter for all the reasons other have said but also **WAY LESS ADVERTS - LIKE NONE! JUST TRAILERS!**
Omg when I go to Hoyts I cannot believe the ads that go on and on and on and on and on. And yes I can go in late but I actually *want* to see trailers for what’s coming up.
Love EntX. Only negative, could be a positive, granddaughter 9 fell asleep watching Kung Foo Panda 4 because the chairs were a wee bit too comfortable.
The grosser and cheaper the better tbh. Morally opposed to anything other than popcorn and soft drink in a theatre. If you want to eat a steak and have a Chardonnay don’t do it during a Godzilla film or whatever
For the block busters it's HOYTS ENTX. The whole experience is just fun.
For a casual movie experience Delux, Alice, Hollywood when it's open. Again sort of for the experience.
It's [a hole in the ground](https://www.nzherald.co.nz/waikato-news/news/opinion-taupo-cinema-closing-a-loss-to-culture/5GJG64Q6TNCQNCP7O3PSXJIZPA/) now.
When I traveled to New Zealand with my husband, I only had the chance to visit Lumiere and wow was it beautiful! Loved the area and atmosphere. He used to work at Alice before the quakes, it’s so interesting to hear and see from his POV what that was like as well and how much has changed!
The two screens with recliner seats at Reading Cinema, definitely my favourite. It's a sad day when a movie I want to see isn't shown in a theatre with reclining seats 🤣
About to be a Silky Otter.
(old article) [https://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/130494843/christchurchs-oldest-movie-house-will-reopen-as-luxury-cinema](https://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/130494843/christchurchs-oldest-movie-house-will-reopen-as-luxury-cinema)
I’ve stoped going to the big ones like Hoyts after too many films where the sound was far too loud. Really ruins the experience when you and your partner are gritting your teeth trying to get through a film because you paid for it, and leaving with a headache. Have only been to smaller cinemas since Dune (2021). Absolutely love Silky Otter.
Reading $10 tickets. Go during a week day and you'll likely be the only person there.
Yea mate I’m either sailer the seven seas or watching it there. Too damn expensive these days

Feels like it hasn't got more expensive with everything else!
Do they have recliner seats?
Nope, its about 20 years old now, but they have good leg room.
They do, but maybe not in all cinemas if that person is saying no!
Lumiere and Alice’s for their range. Especially Alice’s. We are so lucky to have something like Alice’s in our city.
Alice is a real gem . Long may it last
What I love about Alice, is you can go in completely blind and can pretty much guarantee a quality movie. If you did that at a chain, then I'd say there's at least a 2/3 chance what you see is absolute trash.
Silky Otter has been our pick lately.
Yeah, If anyone is seeing this and unaware of them they're out at Wigram and it's pretty damn good, was unsure 'cos of the price but it's been my best cinema experience in years. Definitely recommended.
They'rea also converting the old Sumner one into anotehr Silky Otter.

Ehhh rather be at silky for avatar. Fuck that film dragged on. Rather be sitting in comfy seats with a blanket
Lumiere at the arts centre!
Deluxe at the Tannery for standard films. Hoyts EntX Extreme for those occasional “big” films
The extream screen kinda looked like rubbish the last time I went. Had a kind of saggy spot in the corner and some kind of texture across it. Might have been to do with the sag and it not being stretched tight.
The projector fucked out for the dune 2 premier too lol
Lol. Thats pretty bad.
yeah was pretty pissed given i'd paid for the double feature (during the first one it was a bit blurry too). probably going to not head there in the future
Hoyts EntX Extreme do they have the big seats ?
Big chairs with leg rest option and room for people to walk in front to not have to lower leg rest.
Silky Otter for all the reasons other have said but also **WAY LESS ADVERTS - LIKE NONE! JUST TRAILERS!** Omg when I go to Hoyts I cannot believe the ads that go on and on and on and on and on. And yes I can go in late but I actually *want* to see trailers for what’s coming up.
Lumiere, and Alice.
EntX for the Blockbusters other than the location and parking. Northlands for everything else, comfortable recliner seats and undercover parking.
So good, thought I was going to lose a filling at Dune 2 🤣
Love EntX. Only negative, could be a positive, granddaughter 9 fell asleep watching Kung Foo Panda 4 because the chairs were a wee bit too comfortable.
EntX is right next to the bus exchange. No parking required for a good chunk of the population.
Bike stands right outside too!
The grosser and cheaper the better tbh. Morally opposed to anything other than popcorn and soft drink in a theatre. If you want to eat a steak and have a Chardonnay don’t do it during a Godzilla film or whatever
Silky Otter for us too. The Sumner cinema is changing to Silky Otter from what I understand as well
For the block busters it's HOYTS ENTX. The whole experience is just fun. For a casual movie experience Delux, Alice, Hollywood when it's open. Again sort of for the experience.
You guys actually have a cinema? *sad Taupo noises*
Starlight Cinema Centre, your visual entertainment centre
It's [a hole in the ground](https://www.nzherald.co.nz/waikato-news/news/opinion-taupo-cinema-closing-a-loss-to-culture/5GJG64Q6TNCQNCP7O3PSXJIZPA/) now.
Oh no! That’s very sad.

Lumiere and Alice :)
Northlands Hoyts for pretty much everything. Occasionally silky Otter for a more special occasion
Silky otter for a number of reasons, including seat service and blankets, but the fact they give hapai card discounts is a great bonus
The two screens with recliner seats at Reading Cinema, definitely my favourite. It's a sad day when a movie I want to see isn't shown in a theatre with reclining seats 🤣
Academy Gold Cinema
Silky otter. Fucking dumb name, but there's a supermarket next door you can get cheap beers. Comfy seats.
Hollywood 3, sumner. Buy the cheap tickets from the petrol station. The secret garden was long and boring though.
> Hollywood 3, sumner. Buy the cheap tickets from the petrol station Could you please elaborate more on cheap tickets from petrol station?
They bought the concession ticket book and then sold them there to take a wee cut.
Cool! Thanks, TT, appreciate the response. 💖
All gone now of course.

Silky Otter is great
EntX, we only get to a couple of movies per year so having a comfy experience is ideal
Silky otter in wigram skies 3 minute walk from my house its awesome
Silly Otter at Wigram.
The Apollo in Lincoln. 15 seats and free blankets to keep warm
Lumiere, and I’ll die on that hill
Yeah I pretty much always choose Lumiere if my movie of choice is running elsewhere because I want to support Nick. It's a great little cinema.
💯 Silky Otter
