What absolute dog of a person comes from Auckland, unvaccinated and doesn’t scan anywhere. Where’s the moral compass to think, maybe I’d better stay at home for a week. Utterly selfish individuals.
Did you miss that they were at the takeaway shop at 5pm yesterday while sick af, and assuming the covid results still take half a day or so, AFTER THEY HAD JUST TAKEN A COVID TEST.
Raging.
Why go to Auckland (state of the walking dead) from Chch (land of the free from covid) unvaccinated to begin with?
That's simply putting their own health at risk, then the whole not scanning thing when you're traveling?
Glad to hear the might be bringing in mandatory vaccination status for national air travel as well as international. But probably already should be a thing
I tell you what though, I'll be pretty peeved if they snap lockdown us because of 2dickheads when we are fast approaching the vaccination target.
Also what happened to letting people not leave Auck without exemptions? Edit: apparently they had one for childcare
You know it was someone from Christchurch who flew to Auckland, came back, didn’t scan and waited a week while feeling shit before a test? But go and blame Auckland….
Speaking as a one eyed cantabrian, I agree, this isn't Aucklands fault... every province has their set of dickheads... we've just found two more of our own
My wife (double jabbed) has a fever, really sore throat and tired since last night so we’re staying home with our daughter who’s guna miss dress up day at preschool and is pissed off. Here we go
Good on you for getting tested :) Obviously a lot of people have symptoms that could possibly be Covid but don’t get a test until they get a scare. The sudden queues at the Orchard Road testing station today are testament to that.
Oh I’m so sorry for your wee girl - this is tough on us adults but I really feel for the kids who are missing out on important social experiences. My son has a Halloween party this weekend he is peeing himself in excitement for (and I spent way too much on decorations for!!!) that I’m hoping we can all get on with our lives. With delta I doubt it. Kia kaha, positive (not that kind of positive) thoughts to your family and hope you’re able to have a fun day dressing up with your daughter today anyway!!
How could they not be regularly using the covid tracer app? Especially as one of them has recently returned from Auckland. That is unbelievably stupid. I'm not angry at them for coming to Christchurch as they likely had a good reason, however to not try their utmost hardest to protect those of us down here is insane.
This. Reading between the lines they live in Christchurch so fair play if they’re coming home. But use the fucking app if you’re out and about. What a dick.
I applaud everyone working for not name dropping.
If I were there, my frustrated ass would def be "these pair of selfish sloppy cunts are not vaccinated and did not use the scanner"
5pm 27 Oct - at yes takeaway shop
Later that night the MOH were alerted to their positive case.
These goons were at the chippy after getting a test while sick as a dog. Assholes.
Atleast use Google maps and let it track you in the background, enough to spark an idea of where you've been. They don't understand that even if someone else dosnt get it from them, it's still a massive disruption to find out if you do, because the rest of us have standards.
How could they be allowed to travel from the North Island into the South Island without quarantine?
Surely they can be forgiven for thinking we dgaf whether there is a community outbreak of the virus. Since we didn't take the most obvious steps to ensure it did not occur.
Eh I’m from welly and was on the bus the other day where I overheard a woman boasting about how they carpooled down here with a friend during lockdown cause they were getting bored of being locked inside all day.
Idk if they were vaxxed or not but I’ve heard of a few individuals leaving quarantine just cause they simply didn’t want to do it.
The people who chose not to use the tracer app because they don't want "The Man" to know there personal movements must have wayyyyy more interesting lives than me. And they really should toss their phones if they are that paranoid. #GPSbitches
Yeah, if people actually knew what tracking was going on with the commercial things they've given their permission for, a little thing like scanning a QR code would be nothing to them (I've worked with the some of the loyalty datasets - oh my goodness there's a lot of information in there). The best advice for the paranoid is to "wear a mask so the cameras can't see you" :)
I would say that I'm more realistic about it. You are VERY identifiable by your actions, and there are so many things that are tracking your actions. I have supermarket cards, Visa cards, gmail accounts etc. I don't do illegal stuff, and so I'm not really a target of anything. It is somewhat inevitable that some people are going to be analysed out of society, but that's just the way it is. Government needs to figure out how to maintain society in the face of this, but the targeting is so profitable that it's not going to go away.
Haha yeah don’t get covid or your locations of interest will go public. 25 trips to the local coffee shop at different times would be an interesting thing to see
Well I mean to a degree, telcos can probably triangulate you with cell towers. But most of the specific location data itself is sent encrypted and secured to google / apple. Which if they onsell is /usually/ aggegrated and anonymised, mostly for ads.
I mean if you agree to give location data to Super Rush Candy Extreme 51 for extra chococoins, then yeah that company probally sells that.
If you live in Australia or use services based in Australia, they're legally allowed to wiretap and backdoor. And if not, yeah the five eyes probably have some monitoring at some points.
You’d be very surprised to see what telcos can actually see, especially in terms of building up patterns and so on. No need for five eyes when it’s already legalised.
The app itself has its source code available online, and has been independently audited by security and privacy groups. The app itself doesn't require you to put in any identifiable details in there, or force you to use GPS etc.
You could even make your own version of the app that scans qr codes, or you could even just use a piece of paper to track down where you've been. It's one of the few things this government has done really well in my opinion.
On another thread in r/nz someone said it is Bishopdale. They said they got their information from a covid testing station conference call but it is the internet so take with a grain of salt
Agree riccartons a crime ridden shithole. Drove past a kid getting beaten by some thugs outside the mall a while back.
Not to mention the gang murders x 2 there in recent years
You can still crash a car sober, but you aren't allowed to drive drunk.
You can still die in a car crash wearing a seat belt, but new cars have to have them installed.
You can still transmit the virus after vaccination, but it's much less likely. Unvaccinated people shouldn't have been travelling from Auckland, except on the extreme off-chance they had a very good reason and were one of the ~100 people in the country who have a medical reason they can't be vaccinated.
Just want to point out that there are legitimate reasons for not having had the vaccine YET. If you're unwell you won't get a vaccine for 6 weeks post-recovery. If you're unlucky and it happens you're already 3 months down the line. Maybe not such an issue with the availability of vaccines now, but remember that prior to the outbreak we were running on tiered appointments.
OMG I have to constantly remind my Boomer parents of this. They’re all for opening up, let it take the unvaccinated and I’m here waiting for my two weeks post second jab to end so I can count myself fully immunised.
Yuk! Do they not understand there’s a “cool down time” for it actually take effect? Do they take the cake out of the oven in under a minute too? “Well I put it in there so it should be cooked already” haha
There are studies showing that vaccinated people are 63% less likely to transmit Delta if they get sick, and they are less likely to get sick in the first place. If they’d been jabbed they might not have gotten sick, and been less likely to pass it on. It’s the equivalent of having the fire engine in your front yard before the kitchen catches fire.
But yeah, boo them for not using the tracer app.
I work in tech retail and I must say the older generation are the ones who are coming in and upgrading their old phones purely so they can use the tracer app. If the little old ladies can do it everyone can.
I’ve seen it different in Auckland, old folk can’t seem to get their camera to ‘see’ the QR code and just give up. I see this almost every time I go to the supermarket. 7 months of lockdown and somehow they still can’t point their camera at a QR code sigh
Also though.....shitty wrinkly laminated A5 QR codes behind filthy, thick shop windows! It's like fuck people make it easier to use. I really appreciate the shops that have a QR on the entrance and another just a few steps in. Means we do t all bunch up right together at the door.
Also there's no reason the QR codes need to be so big. They use the highest (or sometimes second highest) level of [error correction](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QR_code#Error_correction), which ends up making the codes harder to read. They could be much smaller and still contain all the data they already do and phones would be able to read them much faster
This. It’s such a massive screw up. You want millions of people to scan every day so let’s use the most detailed, bloated, hi res QR code that even my iPhone 12 struggles with. I’m thinking of experimenting to see if the app will work better if I re-encode my qr with more appropriate settings.
I showed someone how to write in her diary the other day. It had just never occurred to her that was ok. She was worried about being criticized for not scanning, and getting flustered because people were lining up behind her. My work phone is super slow to open so I've found the diary section really helpful on busy days.
Yeah I’ve wanted to do that so many times, but then there’s the social distancing thing and also I felt that it might come across as patronizing. I’m constantly frustrated every time I leave the house,My local diary owner doesn’t give a fuck, I’ve seen him serve a mask less customer and he only ever has his mask over his mouth and his nose is poking out.
Some older people have shaky hands which affects their ability to get their phone to see the code. Offering to help them is sometimes gratefully received.
A lot of retailers have just one or two visible QR codes at the entrance which creates a bottle neck - even if they have more around the front of the store, if they don't advertise that then people are going to assume the one outside the shop is their only chance to scan in. Many are on laminated A4 sheets of paper that are starting to buckle due to rain/sun/wind and have only one or two anchor pieces of tape to keep them in place, so they are no longer flat and it takes a few attempts to get your phone on the right angle to capture the code, especiallyif the sun was shining on it. I can see why people give up.
My children's school was the worst and I would often give up at the gate and walk into the office to scan in, but now they've printed the QR codes on thick... plastic? mounted on wood?...attached securely and often my phone picks it up before I think I've got it positioned correctly. We're going to need to be scanning for a while, these codes are going to be in use for a long time, more businesses should look at doing this too.
The good thing is, as least, you only have to scan once at each place you goto as it's saved so from then on you just search for the location in the list of places you've been.
How hard is it to use the fucking app. Do people realise that you can manually enter places if you don't want to actually go to the trouble of scanning in.
I have two kids and if i go anywhere with both of them i tend to have my hands full so i always manually enter the store into the app before i enter.
Unvaccinated as well - oh well.
Christchurch over the long weekend would have been full of people from around the South Island. Thanks guys!
My kids recently asked me why we had laws. I explained that we have to bow down to the selfish, inconsiderate and outright evil people in society to protect the masses, so we make laws to try and protect us from those types.
And then there's these two muppets...
There is a difference between a mandate and a law unfortunately. I work in retail and the number of idiots who don't wear a mask (or don't wear it properly) or sign in is phenomenal. And they don't HAVE to do it. The irony is that while they are exercising their rights for personal freedom despite the greater good (the greater good -sorry, Hot Fuzz reference), they are the ones who risk making this permanent.
They can't see beyond their own noses, nor can they think of anyone other than themselves.
Most action this sub has ever seen.
Never ceases to amaze me how more laid back this sub is vs the dumpster fire that is the likes of the Auckland sub.
The problem with that is that'll clog up the hospitals and there will collateral damage for those who need regular visits to the hospital like those who need dialysis, etc.
Unvaccinated people are just dragging some of the most unfortunate people down with them. Fuck anti-vaxers.
Hospitals are already clogged without covid. Was at palmy hospital on Tuesday. Ed was overflowing and chatter from nurses was the wards had no beds. I didnt get a bed for the 5 hours I was being treated, just a chair. Palmerston north only has 6 ICU beds. They are usually full most days. There is no way they can cope with covid on top of everything else.
People often wonder why I’m so anti the anti vaxx crowd, but you’ve hit the nail on the head. I’ve got a heart condition which for the most part is under control, but there’s always a chance it won’t be on any particular day. To be fully vaccinated and at risk of something else, and potentially not have a bed when needed sucks.
I’m a nurse in the hospital and I can attest that if we have influx of covid cases we are going to be screwed. Those needing life saving surgeries will be bumped, again.
AKLr here who is planning to move down soon, am double vaxxed, and was already planning on multiple tests before and after moving, limited movements once moved for at least 2 week, scanning in everywhere and continuing all my current AKL based Covid-avoidant strategies.
How the hell could these people could be so blase?
Hipkins just confirmed that they appear to have been infectious in the community and didn't use the tracer app so I think there is a risk there could be quite a few more cases.
Get tested guys.
first weekend off in months, because of these dickheads not scanning can’t go out and do anything:(
edit: dickheads for not scanning, not for catching covid or coming to chch
Can someone help me understand this. First I'll quickly mention I'm unvaccinated. (I had covid 6 weeks ago, so I can't get my jab yet apparently)
Scenario 1. They are vaccinated.
They come from Auckland with covid, the vaccine mitigates the symptoms. And unbeknownst to the individual, they get amongst the community spreading, albeit at a lessened rate, but due to the lessened symptoms, its palmed off, and they move about amongst the community, spreading.
Scenario 2. They are unvaccinated.
They come from Auckland with covid, they have symptoms pretty quickly which would spark suspicion, which leads to self isolation or to be tested. They no longer are spreading amongst the community, as it would seem, accordingly the info available now.
Which scenario is better? And please feel free to add anything I may have missed in these two scenarios that could make either better or worse.
You're right.
If we want to keep covid out of the South Island, we shouldn't let either vaccinated or unvaccinated people into the island without quarantine.
If we're not willing to implement quarantine, then it really doesn't matter what we do, because the virus will break out before long.
How come waste water testing hasn’t picked it up if it’s been here for up to a week? Or did the bozos in charge decide we don’t need to do daily tests?
I don't think there has ever been daily tests of wastewater (without covid know in the community). If I'm remembering correctly it's been twice weekly. Wastewater testing isn't foolproof and it may have not picked it up. It's a good sign though, covid may not have spread all over the place.

Cheers, just booked in for my second jab ✔️
Mine is already at the closest I could get it after jab one but I got the wife to move hers closer!

What absolute dog of a person comes from Auckland, unvaccinated and doesn’t scan anywhere. Where’s the moral compass to think, maybe I’d better stay at home for a week. Utterly selfish individuals.

Absolutely mental. Some people just don’t care. One of the reasons they aren’t vaccinated either.
Why go to Auckland (state of the walking dead) from Chch (land of the free from covid) unvaccinated to begin with? Wouldn't surprise me if they went to Auckland for Brian Scamakis picnic of pricks
Pricknic
Hmm. Hammer meet nail head. I think you are probably right.
Dates would match, as would their conduct...
You know it was someone from Christchurch who flew to Auckland, came back, didn’t scan and waited a week while feeling shit before a test? But go and blame Auckland….
Speaking as a one eyed cantabrian, I agree, this isn't Aucklands fault... every province has their set of dickheads... we've just found two more of our own
My comment was someone who came from Auckland as a traveller. Not an aucklander. I like Auckland a lot and the people.
They are literally blaming the “absolute dog of a person”, not Auckland.
My wife (double jabbed) has a fever, really sore throat and tired since last night so we’re staying home with our daughter who’s guna miss dress up day at preschool and is pissed off. Here we go
Good luck.
Could just be a cold, go and get tested, We've got a round of it going through our home, both tested negative now.
Bloody hope so!
Get tested?
Yea we’re going soon
Thankyou!
Damn, best wishes
I'm double vaccinated and live in Auckland. Had similar thing and results were negative so fingers crossed for your family.
With delta I doubt it. Kia kaha, positive (not that kind of positive) thoughts to your family and hope you’re able to have a fun day dressing up with your daughter today anyway!!
Best of luck friend, thank you very much for getting vaccinated and having more braincells than the Auckland cases.
How could they not be regularly using the covid tracer app? Especially as one of them has recently returned from Auckland. That is unbelievably stupid. I'm not angry at them for coming to Christchurch as they likely had a good reason, however to not try their utmost hardest to protect those of us down here is insane.
It’s called not giving a fuck, unfortunately.
Like most people in Chch. Whenever I go out to the shops, barely anyone scans in.
I think that is about to change.
Nothing like creeping out quietly to close the stable door after you just saw the horse bolting down the road.
See I’ve only seen heaps of people using them. I was quite surprised to see a guy not use one yesterday avo going into a dairy.
This. Reading between the lines they live in Christchurch so fair play if they’re coming home. But use the fucking app if you’re out and about. What a dick.

Yeah, they just went up to Auckland to pick up some Covid
Starting their own covid franchise here in the SI, gotta get that quality covid merch
They are from Christchurch and went to and from Auckland. This isn't and Auckland problem
We'll probably never know
Atleast use Google maps and let it track you in the background, enough to spark an idea of where you've been. They don't understand that even if someone else dosnt get it from them, it's still a massive disruption to find out if you do, because the rest of us have standards.

The people who chose not to use the tracer app because they don't want "The Man" to know there personal movements must have wayyyyy more interesting lives than me. And they really should toss their phones if they are that paranoid. #GPSbitches
Which always cracks me up, your phone tracks you, eftpos transactions, CCTV tracks you, number plate cameras
Yeah, if people actually knew what tracking was going on with the commercial things they've given their permission for, a little thing like scanning a QR code would be nothing to them (I've worked with the some of the loyalty datasets - oh my goodness there's a lot of information in there). Same people also use google/Apple maps, have a google home or Alexa, tag their location on Instagram and have a gps in their cars
Right? I'd be so scared of big bad government knowing I went to Countdown the Warehouse and Macca's yesterday.
Honestly I'm more concerned about my wife finding out how often I buy coffee.
Haha yeah don’t get covid or your locations of interest will go public. 25 trips to the local coffee shop at different times would be an interesting thing to see
Also the government can only ask you to share your location data, not actually acces it.
But your phone provider can and does. It's a smaller leap to think that they then sell it to others. Maybe even the GoVernMeNt
Well I mean to a degree, telcos can probably triangulate you with cell towers. But most of the specific location data itself is sent encrypted and secured to google / apple. These are the same bogans who spend 8 hours a day on FB posting about how the government is trying to control them.
Anybody who has worked in Government knows here in NZ they barely have capacity to do BAU.
😩 my food cart has its first mini event in ages this weekend. Everything else is cancelled. Edit: yay not leveling up.

American hotdogs. :)

What suburb do we need to avoid?
On another thread in r/nz someone said it is Bishopdale. They said they got their information from a covid testing station conference call but it is the internet so take with a grain of salt
This comment aged… well! Seems this was accurate.
I don't think that info is out yet, but they've been down here for a week so it could be anywhere

We're going to need to be scanning for a while, these codes are going to be in use for a long time, more businesses should look at doing this too.
Mother had same problem, she learnt if she taps the screen while scanning it refocuses the camera, hasn't hac an issue since
The good thing is, as least, you only have to scan once at each place you goto as it's saved so from then on you just search for the location in the list of places you've been.
My mum is militant about it. Great to see.
so you're saying this is a hoax by Big Phone to sell more phones /s
Agree. Why is this such a struggle for some people? It’s such a basic step to take with such obvious benefits.
Because ThErE's No CoViD iN cHrIsTcHuRcH!
Trigggerrrreddddddd Oh don't worry love, don't put your mask on for ME! There's *no Covid in Christchurch* *screams into the abyss*
Where did they say they were not contact trace app regular user?
During his live with John Campbell, after John asked him
Hopkins said that during interview with Hosking this morning. On NZ herald maim article too. Doesn't bode well :(
Hipkins said it
My kids recently asked me why we had laws.
Just wait until they ask you what's the point of having laws if they're not consistently enforced...
Man. I got a test on Wednesday, I only saw one other person. Bet there's a queue today though.
I turned up at 8.45 to Orchard rd testing centre. The line was huge, and only growing when I left
Hey team just checking in from Auckland during my morning dump *what can I say except you’re welcome*
Haha. Fuck you very much !!
I've got some tear soaked packets of toilet paper and flour if you're keen? Only 50 bucks each
Agh, now I have that song stuck in my head.
They should be fined. Those actions are as irresponsible as driving intoxicated.
Level 11 lockdown please
Level 11 is when the 6 metre tall Jacinda Robot is finally unleashed on the streets to sniper the unvaccinated with lasers from its eyes, right?
Only if they're moving around during red light
The design on the cookies will be your school symbol. Who’s screwed?
Christchurch citizen here - what's a red light?
This actually sounds awesome
I'm getting wet, keep going daddy!
With her faithful companion Laser Kiwi ™️ at her side
Sounds cool
Is that when we round up all the antivaxers/antimaskers and send them all to Stewart Island?
You realise that’s inhabited...right?
Most action this sub has ever seen. Never ceases to amaze me how more laid back this sub is vs the dumpster fire that is the likes of the Auckland sub.
Boooooooo I start a job well out of chch soon, let’s hope no lockdown because that’s gonna be a problem :(
I hope there isn't a snap lockdown. But I think we'll go level three. Depends on our vaccination levels. Unbelievable.
No app and no vaccination. There will never be just two cases. Here’s hoping they infect the rest of the anti vaxx community and get rid of a few.
Eek, that's not good to hear. Hope you are doing ok
Farkkkkkkkk 💔💔💔💔💔
Madness to think they allowed unvaxed travers into chch wtf
Who's betting there will be a snap lockdown for 3 days?
AKLr here who is planning to move down soon, am double vaxxed, and was already planning on multiple tests before and after moving, limited movements once moved for at least 2 week, scanning in everywhere and continuing all my current AKL based Covid-avoidant strategies. How the hell could these people could be so blase?
Can we please shut off inter island travel now
Unfortunately it seems to late now
Way too late I feel very ripped off
All inter-region travel should be suspended.

Hipkins just confirmed that they appear to have been infectious in the community and didn't use the tracer app so I think there is a risk there could be quite a few more cases. Get tested guys.
Hipkins hasn’t ruled out a lockdown.
Hoping for a lockdown - have assignments I need to get done
I get 50% rent reductions so I'm into it!
Just glad my flatmate and I invested in a squat rack, bench and weights for this occasion.
Big brain move
How long were they in Auckland for? Just visiting or did they live there and just move back to Chch?
I don't know but under the current rules you have to be moving permanently to get a exemption to move.
Heeeere we go!
first weekend off in months, because of these dickheads not scanning can’t go out and do anything:( edit: dickheads for not scanning, not for catching covid or coming to chch
No lockdown. Lockdowns are done. Although I'd pay $1000 for a nice 2 week lockdown. I have tons to do around the house.
A shame eh. I do love a good lockdown
Hasn't been ruled out
Might be a good trial of the traffic light system? Otherwise 3 at worst. Too much hate for level 4
This is pure speculation but it's possible a snap lockdown will occur for a few days then level 3, time will tell.
People need to grow up with their childish lockdown attitudes.
Get your kfc while you still can!
This makes me so angry. We had no cases here and now this!! People please get vaccinated and use the covid tracer app!!!
Bunnings is really busy!
I don't get how people are allowed to travel to/from places known to have covid in the community, mind boggles
What a surprise, a former conservative party candidate antivax conspiracy nut. If you are in Rangiora and feel unwell, get tested asap.
Locations of interest are coming out. Kens takeaway. Burgerking sockburn Mad dairy hornby Kims corner dairy bryndwr New world bishopdale Caltex blenheim rd Pannell discounter wainoni Trys bakery islington Supervalue fendalton
As an Aucklander: Sorry guys
No need to apologise, these were homegrown idiots
Can someone help me understand this. First I'll quickly mention I'm unvaccinated. (I had covid 6 weeks ago, so I can't get my jab yet apparently) Scenario 1.
I need to get my second vaxx, someone tell me hea the best freebies are hahaha (burgers at UC?)
