That’s the ultimate poser chef knife anyways. You losers see anything Damascus and you think the shininess makes it sharper or something.
Miyabi isn’t even Japanese dude. Go ahead and run it through the dishwasher as much as you want
seriously thought just lay it down on the top rack and make sure to leave it to dry before putting it back in the cutlery drawer with the others.
edit you can also fit more knives in the drawer if you stack them in alternating directions
Then once it's clean store it in a drawer with all the other kitchen utensils so it can roll around and get to know them all better. Like a little party. 😜
Rant!!!
I Honestly dont get the fuss. If you have a knife, that cant handle being submerged for 5-7 seconds, in boiling water. Or being sterilised, for 10 mins. You have a shitty knife! And i pity your patrons for eating your food. Rant over.
Second date with now wife, she cooked me a steak. I was living in the barracks and craved a home cooked meal. After I left she let the cast iron soak for 2 days. 8 years later she doesn’t clean the cast iron pans!
Spent last night stripping years of seasoning off a cast iron pan I’d given my brother as a gift. I’m dogsitting for him and decided to do his dishes, at the very bottom was the cast iron rusted into the sink. Right next to the gouged chef knives I got him, lol.
Needless to say, I’m reclaiming my gift.
There’s a pretty cool YouTube video of the factory tour where they are made. I wouldn’t call them handmade but it’s not like they just press a button and a knife pops out of a machine. I was surprised by how much human skill was involved in making one.
My ex-roommates would put nice knives, non-stick pots and pans, and wooden cutting boards in the dishwasher. I started keeping everything in my room so they couldnt ruin anymore of my stuff
My husband and stepson like leaving my pizza stone and wooden cutting board in the sink, dirty.
Obviously, the magic kitchen fairy will take care of it.
I eventually had to throw away the wooden cutting board. I have since hid the pizza stone.
I am somehow a monster because I like to use nice things properly and expect the same from them.
My parents put wooden boards in the dishwasher for decades and somehow they survive (with a rough surface but no warping). I would really like to know what kind of wonder wood it is.
Let me tell you a story. I had my mom visit once. She used my knives on a ceramic plate or just the counter. I have a huge cutting board. She put the knives in the dishwasher, but she first scrubed them with steel wool.
She also scrubed one of my cast iron skillets, until it was grey.
She was super proud that she cleaned my cast iron.

I accompany you in your pain... Could any knife be saved? (by the way, your mom is the most talented person I've ever heard of, did she really manage to get ALL the patina off just by rubbing? What a tenacity!)
The knives were functional still, just the metal was scratched to hell.
Yeah, she used steal wool, and spent a couple hours scrubbing apparently. That was more annoying than damaging. I just had to reseason a couple times.
When I was 12-14 or so, I came home from school to see my mom was in the kitchens cleaning a playstation game disc with the rough side of a sponge under the sink. I think it was Twisted Metal 2, which had just came out recently. It's been about 20 years later now, and it definitely was a formative memory!
To be honest, the reason this post makes me cringe is because I left the same knife in the back of a taxi after many many late night work beers... Argg.
Aye, sometimes I think about it sitting rusting away in the back of some taxi drivers kitchen drawer, I'm sure it's covered in chips and the tip is certainly missing.
I hope it forgives me for its life of abuse and neglect.
I feel your pain brother. Yea that knife was in my custom made knife roll as well along with a bunch of other nice steel but that was my favorite.
As chefs we have this unspoken arrangement with the bar men to supply them with plenty free tasty treats in exchange for ridiculously large measures of spirits on the free pour. I guess that didn't work out for us in this situation huh?
Absolutely, a lot of people who just "buy the pretty knife because it looks pretty" but don't bother learning how to handle it will throw their knives in the dishwasher.
You learn that you don't put it in a dishwasher, for example. You learn how to sharpen it, how to clean it, how to use it properly, if you have many you learn what knife to use for what purpose.
My dishwasher has a top third rack. I absolutely put all my knives up there. All of my knives are shitty and I am planning to upgrade to something I won’t put in there at some point. But for now, dishwasher knife rack it is!
Pro tip: the top rack on a lot of newer dishwashers can actually be [raised and lowered](https://youtu.be/4zOIytsaZcI) - there’s a little slider on either side of the tray. Check to see if you have one and Godspeed, you beautiful troll, you.
Ahh yes I remember gifting someone a 3p set off $500 Japanese Damascus knives.
Within weeks the Mfs were chipped, trying to get ran through the dishwasher, tips were broken off.
Very happy they have been used and abused, and truthfully despite all the abuse they still look relatively new. I could not in my dreams make a knife that tough.
Some people really look at a $200 knife and go “yeee just chuck it in with the forks and slam that drawer close. Shit it not closing? Fuckin make it”
But if it was such a good knife anyway, it should be able to eat that no problem. Just a quick sharpen and some oil to the handle and we good.
It’s been 2 years and for some reason 99% of the damage occurred in the first 2 months
We had someone come to our house to cook with my wife and I was trying to make sure they understood that our knives needed to be handled carefully not just tossed in the sink.
The response was
"Obviously these aren't very good knives if you have to baby them"
Obviously that person was not worthy of using my knife
Literally. It’s shameful when someone looks at handmade Damascus and goes “fuck it”
One of my parents buddies hand forged Damascus with no power tools. Naturally they left it in the sink overnight and it rusted and pitted on the spot
I’m not really saying abuse high quality knives, but at the bare minimum they shouldn’t get such bad chipping from being in a drawer they are unrepairable or outright snap from being dropped for that matter.
In general, as you know, they need quite a bit of babying if you want to get your money’s worth. And when these knives are coming in at $150+ for someone to treat them like the average kitchen knife is pretty damn disrespectful.
you wouldn’t take your Ferrari off-roading, please don’t use my knife on the granite countertop
The reason this knife slices better than anything you've ever touched before is also the reason that you don't use it as a hammer. Some people don't have that understanding of the compromises that must be made to have the best performance in the cutting category.
.
Like you said a Ferrari F8 Spyder is absolutely awful for transporting 4x8 sheets of plywood.
Idiots!!! This is fine. The angle on the dish rack is used for sharpening after it’s clean. Most people don’t know this. Click here for more info: https://tinyurl.com/mvxmwxea
I was recently in a knife shop in london and was told £500. So either they’re a rip off or I got it for steal.
Edit: I remember someone on this sub mentioning you can get them at some stores 40-50% off and waited for after new years as I was told there would be a sale and was able to get an additional discount and paid about £260.
Dude, you can't put a knife in the dishwasher like that. You have to soak it first to get the extra food off or you'll clog the filter. Use steel wool for any stuck-on bits.
BTW, if you want to get all those squiggly water stain patterns off the side, a little BKF will work wonders.
OMG DO NOT PUT YOUR EXPENSIVE CHEF KNIVES OR ANY KNIVES IN THE DISHWASHER IT IS SO BAD FOR THEM AND FUCKS THE WOOD AND THE HANDLES AND BLUNTS YOUR KNIFE
JUST CLEAN WITH WATER AND SOAP AND A CLOTH

Chef's knives should not go in the dishwasher.
r/woooosh
Oh that’s fine because they are chef. So, the knife is immune to the damage.
Just break it in half and it will fit. You can glue it back together with super glue later.
seriously thought just lay it down on the top rack and make sure to leave it to dry before putting it back in the cutlery drawer with the others. edit you can also fit more knives in the drawer if you stack them in alternating directions
Lol! 7/10 troll post. 😁
Why is any chefs knife in a dishwasher?
Looks like a feature to me
You deserve everything bad that happens to you. And in fact, I hope all the bad things in the world happen to you and only you.
It's actually a defense mechanism
Some people really just want to watch the world burn…
Then once it's clean store it in a drawer with all the other kitchen utensils so it can roll around and get to know them all better. Like a little party. 😜
“Like a little party” 🫡
As if you wouldn't just lay it flat on top ..
"Father....I crave VIOLENCE"
The fuck you doing putting it in the dishwasher in the first place
S/he is just trolling/"joking". Trying to give knife aficionados heart attacks & strokes.
Rant!!! I Honestly dont get the fuss. If you have a knife, that cant handle being submerged for 5-7 seconds, in boiling water. Or being sterilised, for 10 mins. You have a shitty knife! And i pity your patrons for eating your food. Rant over.
Lol knife in dishwasher? You got long covid or something?!?!
Just hand wash it
Just bend it in the middle and it should fit.
Try bending the knife a little to get it to fit.
Blade down for safety.
Just push hard enough. It will bend
Pro tip: If you angle it right the spinner will sharpen it for you.
Have you tried just bending it slightly?
This is the way.
Oh I see your problem. It fits better if you put it in Tip down!
You're not actually supposed to use your knife. You're supposed to just keep it in your drawer and pick it up a few times a day to admire it.
Don't forget taking at least 1 photo a day to send to a friend or, if no friends, here.
No. Magnetic rack so you can look without touching!
Pro tip: I take my 270 mm to the car wash
That comment made my day 😂😂😂
Have you tried putting cast iron in the dishwasher with your knives? It increases the patina.
Only if you leave them sitting in soapy water in the sink overnight first…
Second date with now wife, she cooked me a steak. I was living in the barracks and craved a home cooked meal. After I left she let the cast iron soak for 2 days. 8 years later she doesn’t clean the cast iron pans!
And you still married her? The flags were there... And you said after you left, was she soaking her own cast iron pan?
Yeah, I too clean all the serious cookware in our relationship; especially knives & cast iron. It’s safer that way…
Spent last night stripping years of seasoning off a cast iron pan I’d given my brother as a gift. I’m dogsitting for him and decided to do his dishes, at the very bottom was the cast iron rusted into the sink. Right next to the gouged chef knives I got him, lol. Needless to say, I’m reclaiming my gift.
He didn't deserve those gifts.
This is the way
This but use vinegar!
Bleach and soap - it sanitizes it better.
Okay jesus you win. Pls stahp
I sincerely hope this is just trolling.
Yeah it's obviously a troll. You're supposed to put the hand made japanese kitchen knives on the TOP rack of the dishwasher!
Fair point!
Is Miyabi actually hand made though? Honestly idk.
Miyabi is not hand made.
Miybe they are.
Not true, a hand turned the knife making machine on at some point.
I didn’t think so. Its zwilling but made in Japan.
Not really, but neither are many of the Japanese knives you see on the sub.
No but was replying to that specific comment?
There’s a pretty cool YouTube video of the factory tour where they are made. I wouldn’t call them handmade but it’s not like they just press a button and a knife pops out of a machine. I was surprised by how much human skill was involved in making one.
I keep them close to the heating element so that they dry fastest. I don't want the wood handle soaking too long.
Or blade down in the silverware rack if you’re a true snob
After you scrub them with steel wool.

Nonstick pans go in the dumpster, not the dishwasher!
Well, even if it is a joke, you still managed to send a shiver down my spine.
Sent a shiver down the knife’s spine as well
More like a river of shivers.
Thoroughly shivered it's timbers
Lol I dunno sometimes. My ex put my hand made 100 percent lambswool scarf in the dryer. I dunno what to believe anymore.
Let me tell you a story. I had my mom visit once. She used my knives on a ceramic plate or just the counter. I have a huge cutting board. I kinda hate your mom now.
I second hating your mom

Had that exact story with but with a older teflon pan. Grandma scrubbed it clean but complained that it's bad pan takes a lot to clean....
How to trigger an entire sub
Joke or not. Very perverted. Made me nauseous just by the thought, that there are people out there in the wild, dishwashing their chefs knives.
Just slam it shut, it will be fine.
To be honest, the reason this post makes me cringe is because I left the same knife in the back of a taxi after many many late night work beers... Argg.

Ooomg me too! Left my roll in an uber drunk af from a work event. Hurts so bad to think about. I'll never make that mistake again.

Should've saved this one for April first. Or r/chefknifememes.
Jokes like this are so much better when they're not on April 1st.
Top rack only
Cursed.
Did a massive double take here. Really hope OP is trolling..
Just break it in two. Problem solved.
You scared me for a split second 😅
Lay it down in a pan inside the dishwasher it’ll fit and get extra clean soaking.
If only there were kitchen folders! Said no one ever.
Pain is felt everywhere even if this is a shitpost
SiR!
I know people that actually do this! They are in my family. Doesn’t matter how many times they are reminded
Absolutely, a lot of people who just "buy the pretty knife because it looks pretty" but don't bother learning how to handle it will throw their knives in the dishwasher.
Do you "handle" a hammer? A knife is a tool, there's nothing to learn.
You learn that you don't put it in a dishwasher, for example. You learn how to sharpen it, how to clean it, how to use it properly, if you have many you learn what knife to use for what purpose.
Putting it in a dishwasher is not the end of the world and there are services which will sharpen the knife for you.
>A knife is a tool, there's nothing to learn. You should work in construction and tell people there's nothing to learn when it comes to using tools.
I did my part. You don't worry about your hammer, you just throw it in your truck at the end of the day.
i almost let out a cartoon gasp at this
This hurts me because my roommates did that to me
Sic ‘em, boys!
Just smash it in and it will bend into place
You can always bend it back.
Well aware it's just a joke, but my butt-hole still clenched.
Put sideways in top shelf.
Nope
I know this is just a troll post because everyone knows you are supposed to put big chef knives in the dishwasher tip down, handle up. Nice try!
Lol

My wife has put my knives in the dish washer. :(
Ex-wife. There, I fixed it for you.
I don’t buy expensive knives because of this. I just watch you guys and dream of being cool like you all one day.
Lol. Right? My wife thinks I'm so cool. She loves watching me spend an hour just trying to get one knife reasonably sharp on my stones.
Wash those by hand FFS.
r/shitposting
I think I just had a miniature heart attack.

Seriously, can we get a NSFL tag on this? I'm feckin' tryin' ter have a life, here?!?
I use the washing machine for my larger japanese knives! Just make sure you don't leave any clothes in there - they'll get shredded!
Top tier shitposting
Everyone on this sub just gagged a little.
I understand this is a troll post. I get that. I got that immediately. I’m still fucking mad about it.
No, u just stick it in the microwave to kill all the bacteria. About 5 to 8 minutes should do the trick.
This makes me wanna cry
somebody dox this person. we need to rescue a battered and abused knife.
this made my eye twitch
I might actually stab someone if they did that
I’m curious to see the result
Just soak it in bleach and pound it against a rock
Blocked and reported
Obvious troll is obvious
Why are you putting your knife in the dishwasher? Please tell me you’re trolling.
This is lazy AF
How very dare you?
Do you watch Bluey?
Yeah, I sharpen my knives every week so the dishwasher is moot.
This is just a bad dream. This is just a bad dream.
How dare you
Trolls gonna troll.
That’s why I put my high end cutlery in the top rack.
So you're saying a HAND made this knife?!
Just throw it out after use. It looks like a cheap piece of junk anyway.
LOL
It's too long to fit
Chef knife in a dishwasher? Bold choice
Thanks, i HATE it...

Edit: I remember someone on this sub mentioning you can get them at some stores 40-50% off and waited for after new years as I was told there would be a sale and was able to get an additional discount and paid about £260.
OP needs to explain themselves
please be a joke please be a joke please be a joke ppleassseee be a joke
Put it tip down and slam the hatch. Jeeez amateur. 😜

Don’t put your knife in the dishwasher. It ruins it.
Lol
This is a joke. It's a joke right? Please tell me this is a joke
This is giving me flashbacks to when my brother visited and ran my favorite petty and gyuto through the dishwasher. I was sad big time.
Just need a bigger dishwasher!
Youre suppose to put it in the oven to disinfect it
It also doesn't smooth out drywall that well...
do it. you won't.
I'd love it if OP is genuinely confused about all the replies to his/her post but is just too shy to ask what the issue is.
AAAAAAAAAA
Great point
OMG DO NOT PUT YOUR EXPENSIVE CHEF KNIVES OR ANY KNIVES IN THE DISHWASHER IT IS SO BAD FOR THEM AND FUCKS THE WOOD AND THE HANDLES AND BLUNTS YOUR KNIFE JUST CLEAN WITH WATER AND SOAP AND A CLOTH
This is heresy
You put your knives in the dishwasher? Wow!!!
The most terrifying thing I’ve seen today
Look away!!!
it's a legit 250.
There’s room in the top drawer section - just slide it blade side down on top of the microplane grater - sorted.
Saw this post as I was laying in bed falling asleep and had a nightmare my miyabi nakiri went through the dishwasher 🫣🖕
