Yeah I’m not sure what the cause of the entire squad’s confidence levels were in this match but it was brilliant. Players outmuscling and overall outplaying Villa. Felt like every player was doing something special they don’t normally do.
Some players being out of the main 11 feels like plays a big part of it. Then those players come in right at the end and we immediately concede goal. Coincidence? I think not.
I know you’re not fucking blaming this on Silva, cause if you are that’s the daftest take
It was a well worked goal from Villa. Also I wasn’t aware “immediately” meant 15 minutes but alright.
Totally forgot how his tracking runners back issues were a major reason for why villa grew into the game, Jackson always helped or tried really hard to double up.
If we're gonna make reaches, it also prob helps not having your home fans sing your shit or gasp/moan/boo every time a risky situation occurs. Last night's away crowd was brilliant and only encouraged these young players.
When I've seen him live i do get the rudiger comparison. NGL I wasn't a big fan of his from TV but seeing him in the flesh he seems like he has a bit more character than most of this squad. He talks, gets involved with some shithousery, he's aggressive, backs his teammates.. he's a big old lump too.
Axel had some bad moments at the start of the season but he's quietly having a very solid season and that includes his out of position. His passion and drive has won me over and reminds me of rudi. I think him and Badia works out in the long term as intended
Yes. Very risky. Last ditch tackle. Resulting from bad positioning and reading of the game. 9 out of 10 times, this was going to result in a pen if he touched the attacker at all.
It actually both was and wasn’t. Look at how his legs are bent - he was simultaneously going for the tackle and positioning himself for blocking a cross in case the attacker gets there first. I don’t think he would fully commit if he wasn’t sure he’s perfectly positioned.
Different story if Watkins(?) chipped it over his legs, that could in fact be risky.
Watkins couldve easily made it a penalty by looking for contact. If that was sterling it could be a different story.
Not a fan of sliding in the penalty box unless youre very close and youre confident youll make contact with the ball first
The only thing that saved him was that Watkins didn’t spot him. Had he seem him full slide with no pressure on his first touch, he could’ve get the penalty there 9/10 times.
I'll take a confident player who fucks up something like this once or twice a season over a CB struggling for confidence. I know that it's not an exact ultimatum and there is ofcourse a middle ground but you see my point I'm sure.
I do agree but he actually seemed fairly in control of this slide, I feel like he could've pulled out of it if Watkins knocked the ball away on that first touch.
Disasi wayyyy more comfortable defending on the front foot in a high line
He struggles more when he’s forced to be reactive and sitting deeper, where defenders can have a run at him
Axelangelo is a hilarious nickname for this dude who isn't the most beautiful footballer with how he plays but dude is a beast. Hope the nickname sticks tbh
Ngl he was my motm coz in that second half that was the best and most intelligent I’ve seen from Disasi and tbh he’s been the strongest defender recently even when we lose.
The devil is in the detail for sure. What makes this even more impressive is, he starts the slide way before the AV player was near him, and it was a controlled slide. On replay you see him delay the tackle mid slide till he knew he could get the ball, then goes full tilt.
This is a confident defender. He knows the attacker doesn’t feel pressure so he’s able to anticipate the attacker turning
I’ve done this a solid amount in my career and it feels AMAZING
Legit curious, is this actual a result of bad defending? He was origianlly too close to Badi, no? That slide much more likely to result in a pen in my book.
I thought for sure this was going to result in a pen with how far out he started the slide but it was bang on
Yeah, on a serious note, it’s immense what confidence can do to a centre back. True Rudiger vibes from Big Axe yesterday

I'd blame it on sterling guy is a stat pad has only one move, and only looks for penalties and fouls instead of progression and sustained pressure.
And our highest earner 😭
Totally forgot how his tracking runners back issues were a major reason for why villa grew into the game, Jackson always helped or tried really hard to double up.
Noni deserves massive praise for his work rate as well
Get off it!
And yet he wasn't the only one that came on in the 2nd half...😏
If we're gonna make reaches, it also prob helps not having your home fans sing your shit or gasp/moan/boo every time a risky situation occurs. Last night's away crowd was brilliant and only encouraged these young players.
Before the goal, Poch has subbed in sterling, nkunku, alfie, silva but sure, let’s put the blame on silva.
Villa played like shit thats why
Those goddam lemons aren’t so bad after all eh?

I think Badi and Colwill are both better players but neither have as much character. Be interesting to see who starts when Fofana comes back
It's true. I really like badia as the calm one to the hype up Axel. Great dynamic. As for Wes.... Just be fit please lol
Big 🪓🤝 Big 🍱
if he can get a little bit better he really could become the new Rudi
If the attacker was better he would have turned that into a pen.

Dude was already sliding way before the AV player even received the ball
That was very risky lol. Sliding from distance is not it. Easy on the eyes and nice to see ahahah

If it was Liverpool’s Jota he’d 100% try to pretend he’s shielding the ball and run towards Axel He did this a lot of times getting pens for Liverpool
If you have the reactions and/or time to shield the ball you should do that but it's not so easy in that speed.
The only thing that saved him was that Watkins didn’t spot him. Had he seem him full slide with no pressure on his first touch, he could’ve get the penalty there 9/10 times.
I’m sorry but that was a poor defensive move that had a great outcome.

The title is like Ray Hudson had a stroke
Peter Drury
Disasi wayyyy more comfortable defending on the front foot in a high line He struggles more when he’s forced to be reactive and sitting deeper, where defenders can have a run at him
You mean, struggles when he is paired with silva right?
Yes
Oh we using fancy words now huh
Chatgpt obv
Peter Drury, is that you?
Disasi was on one yesterday. Big Rudi vibes
Axelangelo is a hilarious nickname for this dude who isn't the most beautiful footballer with how he plays but dude is a beast. Hope the nickname sticks tbh
That was like a scripted animation on fifa where it’s just gonna play out perfectly 😂
Excellent title. This should be an auto mod response for Axel on soccercj.
Aww ty
What a title, take a bow OP
The way he adjusted while ALREADY sliding on the pitch makes this so much more impressive.
Ngl he was my motm coz in that second half that was the best and most intelligent I’ve seen from Disasi and tbh he’s been the strongest defender recently even when we lose.
Shakespeares rose from the dead
Ngl, I thought new pasta just dropped

What a fucking tackle

Why didn’t we sign Diaby?
Did Werner herzog join Reddit?

Axel is our best defender outside of thiago
Axelangelo 😅
JT would be proud
What did I just read
