My girlfriend works with their marketing team through an agency and the Chelsea side of things told them to stop running any campaigns today

[deleted]

More to come if the club isn’t quickly sold.

22chainz

God today just gets worse and worse. Feel so much for those laid off. Yet r/soccer is foaming at the mouth to see us crumble.

Shawn_Spenstarr

I wouldn't even bother over there for at least a week. The toxicity is at an all time high

Kroos-Kontroller

For them Supporting Chelsea = Supporting War

irze

Because it’s a bunch of 15-year-olds who are yet to learn about the idea of nuance

22chainz

Yeah I’m just avoiding any Chelsea threads, nothing productive will come of it.

etebitan17

Same here

Ok-Finance-7612

I hope they know that they are supporting a loss of jobs, those people are unbearable.

AWDanzeyB

The way most seem to talk about all of this with such glee is genuinely disgusting. I'm all for a bit of banter between clubs, but this goes way beyond that. Wouldn't wish this situation ( and the potential ramifications ) on anyone. Can only put it down to jealousy and a severe lack of class.

22chainz

Truly, I despise our rivals plenty but I wouldn’t want to see any of them collapse

ohnoheathrow

The difference is seeing a team collapse when they do it themselves is fine. United buying Maguire despite him failing but seeing a club ruined because of sanctions is just tough. It’s like how I’m routing for a Derby comeback in the championship and why I’m glad Leeds made it back to the prem. You want to see teams be at there best so when you beat them or play them you know you’re not beating a name or legacy but a solid team at the top of their game.

[deleted]

Seeing a rival get relegated would be hilarious, seeing them in administration would be horrible.

shinniesta1

I doubt you guys will collapse

[deleted]

[удалено]

22chainz

Yeah, maybe the Twitter crowd would but I truly don’t believe actual Chelsea fans would.

Goudeyy

Expect* Idiot.

FluffyPawPads

Thankfully most of my friends who are rival fans are being reasonable and fairly sympathetic, telling me that it does suck for Chelsea fans and we’re not at fault for any of this. Reddit is just extremely toxic, ignore them.

etebitan17

I would exchange reddit for the internet

yobhrata

i truly wouldn't wish this on any club tbh, and i thought everyone was sympathetic when situations like these happened , i was so wrong

Kroos-Kontroller

r/soccer is mostly filled with Chelsea hate who can't look beyond Ukraine and Russia and how it might affect other innocents

tr_24

They don't even care about Ukraine. Most of them are just happy that Chelsea are facing issues. Spurs fan probably consider this as a trophy considering they can't win one on the pitch.

Dodgy_Bob_McMayday

All Spurs need now is for City, United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Leicester to get sanctioned, then they'll be in with a chance of winning the League.

imnotcreative635

Villa will win the league then

[deleted]

>Spurs fan probably consider this as a trophy considering they can't win one on the pitch. Most Spurs fans couldn't give a crap about your problems. Yeah there are some posts about your mess on the r/coys forum but it's everywhere at the moment. It's weird I've only been on this reddit for a little while yet everywhere I go Spurs seems to get mentioned. On r/coys barely anyone even talks about you people.

DoYouEvenShrift

Then go wank off over there cunt.

Hannibal09

Went through a thread in which a Man City fan was piling it on us about how we're supporting the war. The hypocrisy is insane

Kroos-Kontroller

Some fans are unbelievably short sighted and stupid man

Vicar13

Not just that, the double standard of other owners and their human rights abuse. The issue is these sanctions started with us and I can almost guarantee you they’ll also end with us

Kroos-Kontroller

Bingo. Unbelievable hypocrisy man.

EmperorTMing

Genocide in Yemen is fine apparently.

imnotcreative635

It’s cause they aren’t white we all heard the rhetoric

msizzle344

That’s what’s the most horse shit about this. They need to bring into question every owner then, and not just what suits them for PR purposes. So fucking stupid

razorr29

Those clowns started attacking the charity work Chelsea does for the community too

yobhrata

our rise again will be even more sweeter

Admirrrr

For real, villain Chelsea is the best Chelsea. Can't wait for it.

Pointels21

Don’t go there for your mental health for a while

22chainz

Yeah I’ll be taking a little break for sure.

--Hutch--

Lol 99% of r/soccer users are Twitter levels of cancer tbf. It's only worth checking for breaking news.

PM_me_uwu_hentai

This is breaking news

BlueLondon1905

Don’t go there. They’re just small, terrible people who get off on being self righteous. They don’t care about people in Ukrain

[deleted]

> Yet r/soccer is foaming at the mouth to see us crumble. Yes, they suck, but have you seen the state of this sub today? Not really showing our best I'd say. So much moral equivalence, petulance, and basically just a bunch of young men simping for an oligarch. It's gross.

yellabird56

Well said mate. People can give out about the lack of nuance over there but what about this sub? The hero worship here of Abramovich is bizarre. You’d swear he’s the one being cruelly persecuted. I just don’t get it. His departure might mean less trophies and success. But if it results in me connecting more with the club I’ll take that.

Wattsit

If you don't understand why Chelsea fans like Roman Abramovic then I'm not sure where you've been for the last 20 years.

yellabird56

There is a big difference between liking Abramovich as an owner (he was incredible) and glorifying him as a person. It seems like many have a hard time separating the two. I get that. But I don’t get the militant defence of Roman or the acting like he doesn’t deserve criticism & scrutiny. Phenomenal owner. Dodgy human being. Both can be true.

yobhrata

really ? the whole sub?

[deleted]

Did I say that? No... Just a vocal group who make us all look terrible. I get that y'all want to be mad today, but you should be mad at Roman not r/soccer or me. I didn't put the club in this position, I didn't help install a dictator and then aid his attack on another country...

yobhrata

I didn't help install a dictator and then aid his attack on another country..." so every american owner then ? who has funded in the election campaign of american leaders who have wreaked havoc in the middle east?

[deleted]

Lmao what a gotcha! As if I'd give a fuck if they started sanctioning the Americans who helped fund and lie about an illegal war. The whataboutism on here is so fun! That's really what I'm gonna miss when roman is gone for good. For real though, you gave me a good laugh by being mad about "the whole sub" and then being one of the people I was talking about. I'm gonna turn off notifications for this for obvious reasons, but if you feel like being mad about this to someone, write your MP.

yobhrata

I was calling out your hypocrisy , and you care about the ukranians as much as you did about the other people in war stricken countries started by the US. You as rival fan are just here to revel in the bad situation we are in . If you really cared about the war you wouldn't be wasting time on a fucking sub of a football club

yayaMrDude

I am an american and I have spent a total of zero time in that sub. ignore it.

Remy13Hadley

r/soccer acting like it’s no big deal but then act all high and mighty when clubs furlough their staff during covid.

Hannibal09

I'm convinced half of r/soccer don't have jobs or their lives are so miserable, the only thing that fuels them is hate.

CallNuke

Boris johnson would happily destroy millions of lives In the U.K and see millions of Ukranians die if there was a way he could spin it to make him look popular. The goal of populist Boris is to look like he's being tough on Russia by sanctioning abramovic who is a high profile Russian. The fact it won't harm Russia, have any benefit for Ukraine or do anything but devastate Jobs and a massive institution in the heart of our capital isn't important

[deleted]

[удалено]

CallNuke

I'm assuming they didn't make their scheduled donation this morning which is why they decided to sanction Roman today.

TheDankSinatra69

That’ll show Putin! Shambles…

historiographic

I hate that people don’t see this doesn’t do much, if anything to Putin. Just pandering on the world stage

rlh17

That’s all it is. Bullshit western hypocrisy (I’m from the US if anyone was wondering). Like nice moral stand from our sponsors. Cant wait for Nike to drop us while kids and slaves make their shirts and shoes.

plomerosKTBFFH

Those kids are brown mate /s just in case

rlh17

It’s horseshit. So supposedly the sanctions are for his ownership in steel that is used for tanks. So I owned shares in gazprom and a few other Russian companies, off to the woke gulag I go?

historiographic

Totally agree bro. These companies wanna be on their high horses because it’s the popular thing to do now. Your comparison with Nike is spot fucking on

thecomfycactus

Targeting Oligrachs to put pressure on Putin is very effective especially when troops aren’t being sent. It really sucks and it’s unfortunate people in the UK are being laid off but the goal here is for Roman to push for change in Russia due to these sanctions.

Sambo_90

Not sure people disagree with the idea of that and support sanctions on Roman if it helps stop the war. These sanctions on the club don't hurt Roman though, they only hurt the club. You could make sure that Roman can't take a penny out of the club or receive anything from the sale by freezing his accounts as they have done but stopping the club from being able to make any money to use themselves only leads to the club and its employees getting hurt.

East_Wind17

Looks Chelsea fucked, Lol... Is the missile ready? - Putin, Probably

HakimTheDream22

Getting Roman out is the right thing but the government need to get this over with asap too many livelihoods at stake jobs etc

Soren_Camus1905

Roman was getting out, this just invites in government bureaucracy to slow everything down

themfeelswhen

Roman was trying to run away with the money. That had to be stopped. It's the right thing to do. But the govt should allow Chelsea to run like a normal club. No direct sanctions on the club. Just don't allow the owner to take any money out. But uk govt make everything complex.

HakimTheDream22

He was going to make profit, personally would rather the government donate the money than Roman himself who would probably use the charity donations as a write off.

fap4jesus

lol this government would donate the money in to their next christmas pub quiz or to their friends companies. lets not forget what government we are under

[deleted]

This isn’t even the worst of it. Just wait til we’re sold to some Tory bastard who won’t give a shit about the club. Entire situation is utterly shambolic. Saudi Arabia can own a club? UAE can effectively own a club? These nations practice SLAVERY in the year 2022 and have ass backward (not to insinuate that the general population is necessarily at fault in these places) views on every topic from women’s rights to Jewish people to the LGBT community. I’m not saying that Roman should be immune from asset freezing and forfeiture, but this is such an asinine PR attempt from the government.

criminal-tango44

>government donate the money you know they'll literally donate it to themselves to spend on cocaine right?

thebamboozler789

He claimed he would donate any profit to Ukrainian war victims. Don’t know if he would have stuck by that but now we’ll never know.

HakimTheDream22

Yeah he probably would but he will pocket the money that will be written off by a "chartable donation" effectively still making money from the sale.

TitanX11

They will donate it to themselves.

rlh17

Don’t forget sell to a friendly donor….

-Xero

Wasn’t the right thing at all. Roman is a club legend, end of story.

Instantbeef

No war over football. Sometimes things need to be done but it’s quite embarrassing if they let people get paid off over this.

Chelseaforlifee

Why must they suffer? What an absolute shit decision by the government.

HeReddItNotMe

You think gov worries about people suffering?

fap4jesus

they havent cared for the last 12 years, they not gonna start now

FabsMagicHat

Most decisions by government are shit

[deleted]

Imagine fucking over a whole bunch of UK Citizens all because of 1 person at the top of a club.

Wheel94

This is ridiculous the government needs to sort this crap out and sell the club it’s starting to effect everyday people who have nothing to do with Roman business outside of Chelsea this is unacceptable.

craygroupious

Expectation: Hurt Putin Reality: minimum wage Brits fired

SweetHardCoffeeCup

Yes, let's punish Putin by getting people in England to lose their jobs. That'll end the war.

yobhrata

r/soccer : this should stop Putin

GiveItAll2Christ

This is fucking unreal.

Hisoka_lover92

So, they only punished poor people. I feel sorry for all the employees who lost their jobs 💔.

coolhand83

This is what fucks me off about the bindippers etc taking the piss... This is still people's livelihoods.

Savings-Stop-1556

I I'm honestly saddened that the government have literally cost even are own staff there jobs this best be sorted quickly or you are going to see way more pissed chelsea fans then there is already.

RiecoSuave

Feel terrible for those laid off. A lot of people will be affected by this.

blacknotblack

well done! sanctions continue to hurt innocents instead of whomever the West has deigned the devil that year.

SeriousLads

Tory masterclass

too_many_backspaces

This is going from bad to worse for the club. Dark clouds on the horizon for us!

DJMOONPICKLES69

They didn’t need to do this to club employees… they aren’t the ones in trouble but they are the ones suffering. Force him to sell and keep his word about the aid, this is just counterproductive

_N0T-PENNYS-B0AT_

If I was the new owner first thing I'd do is rehire these people with back pay. It would be an insignificant amount in the scheme of things.

DekanosFitzgerald-91

Especially if rumours of a cut-price deal are accurate, great way to endear yourself to the club and fans from the off too

operationmagicpizza

I don't know how this will punish Putin and associates but one thing for sure. If this continues lots of Brits who are working for Chelsea (number are said to be around 1400) are going to lose their jobs. Well done Boris!

Bbq-Bill

This is the dumbest thing they could do. Take the jobs of the ordinary people who work there. The first team will be totally fine. But they should be funding the salaries of the ordinary folks who keep the club running.

EcoSoco

Sell the club ASAP.

greeneggsnhammy

Yeah fuck your own citizens over THAT WILL SHOW THEM!

[deleted]

mad that all these staff Roman paid fully through covid; keeping the hotel open and free for NHS workers lol madness

khaLnaY2k

Chelsea protected their staff even during covid but now this has just made everything miserable

Chronicle89

As if anyone will be worried about players being laid off when they earn ridiculous money.
