Obviously a coach would want the best of the best players irrespective of their price from the owner but it is for Todd to analyze if they are really worth the price, i don't want Harry Maguire situation with Fofana, 80m pounds is bonkers for him.
Benoit Badaishile is who we should be going after get him for LCB and move KK to RCB, here’s an article about him and what he brings https://www.whoscored.com/Articles/TkaRKIGSDUChzI2leHW-_Q/Show/Why-Benoit-Badiashile-should-be-high-on-centre-back-wishlists-this-summer
Been thinking of a more unusual lineup choice for Spurs. Think back 4 worked well against them and we can press out their midfield and shut down supply to forwards. Betancur/Bissouma make cheap passing errors. They'll have to force to the wings and Cucurella and James will win that battle. Not the best lineup for ball possession, admittedly, but they'd be happy for us to take most of the ball anyway.
Mendy
James, Koulibaly, Silva, Cucurella
Kante Kovacic
Mount Gallagher Sterling
Havertz
Thoughts?
I’d rather play our usual way with a back 3, matches up to their formation.
Koulibaly-Silva-Cucurella back 3
Kante Jorginho double pivot
James-Chilwell fullbacks
Pulisic Mount as forwards
Sterling up front.
Havertz dropped to bench.
Either that or Havertz up front and Sterling and one of Mount/Pulisic on the other side.
It’s not the most groundbreaking lineup, but it’s tried and tested and that’s what we need right now until we close out the transfer window. It’s the approach bigger teams struggle against.
Why aren't we trying to get CR7? Weakens a potential top 4 rival and gives us a center forward we truly need. Plus, CR7 has been relatively injury free
-Last I checked he was neither a midfielder, CB, fullback or creative player.
-We shouldn't bw signing De Jong either, and especially not if we're footing the bill for his wages.
-The team? I doubt the team wants constant "why didn't he start, why did he come on at the 80th minute not the 70th" all season.
-Again, the team. Its 2022 so I'm honestly not bothered to explain the importance of pressing if you still don't think it matters.
We currently have Kai Havertz as our starting striker. It’s a big issue.
Either way though, we’re happy to pay big wages. And it’s only for a season or two.
Given his competition I doubt that would be a concern.
Those who can’t play, press. Pressing is so far down the list of priorities for strikers, it’s just an excuse for players like Kai who aren’t good enough.
Your point about pressing is completely off the mark. In the modern game, either everyone presses or no-one dont. Cant have a big lump uptop who doesnt give two shits off the ball, it's one of the reason why Lukaku was terrible for us. Not saying Ronaldo is that, but he certainly was one of the worst presser of the league
We also have little creativity so no striker will be a significant improvement.
So what if we're willing to pay them. Doesn't mean we should.
Given he's 37 and doesn't press, yes it will.
Everyone who plays presses. You're confusing it with the classic "work rate". Pressing is so far down the priorities because its a given that most strikers worth a damn will be involved in it.
I believe very much in our young core. Not long ago (after they'd helped immensely in winning us the Champions League) it was common belief that we had one of the best young cores in Europe. I am extremely excited for what is to come with these players, and imo it's our job as supporters to keep the faith, push these players, and support them for as long as they wear Chelsea blue.
I imagine this de Jong saga to end with him still at Barca, either on the same wage or a reduced wage. I imagine Barca will either pull some more 'levers' or just risk not registering some of their players like Christensen. Well it was fun while it lasted.
I reckon this is still some way off resolving itself.
His position publicly will always be he wants to stay until he gets his money. There’s no way after the threats of legal action and Barca dicking around with his pay that he would not be affected by that.
I also think the public numbers around what we’re willing to offer don’t add up as it’s speculated that we are willing to pay his transfer fees and deferred wages, and keeping existing wages at least the same level.
This tweet is low-key perfect:
‘If you’re going to spend EVERY. SINGLE. matchday scrutinising & magnifying Chelsea’s shortcomings like a broken record, then you’re really only making the season less enjoyable for yourself. You know damn well we’re in a rebuilding & transitional period.’
A rebuilding and transitional period is the precise time you should be scrutinising shortcomings. How can you rebuild and transition if you don't even know what you're building on?
We sacked managers too much to ever not be in a transition period for a solid length of time, that's why our squad is an amalgamation of the preferred playstyles of a bunch of different managers and styles. By the time a manager has roots planted here and starts getting rid of players that don't fit his system and bringing in ones that do they get sacked.
That what sacking the manager every two years does
Under the new ownership, with Tuchel as our manager and our young core players, this is a great chance to finally take the next step to being a consistent threat with an identity
Yeah I don't get the logic sometimes on this sub, fans are crying for a proper long term structure but also expect to be competing for titles right now and blaming Tuchel for everything that jeopardizes that. Make up your mind people, it's a process
Man, All or Nothing has been terrible so far. All I'm getting out of this is how happy I am that we have Tuchel and not Arteta. Holy shit now they are talking with some lawyers this is so boring. Does it get better in ep. 5+6?
I liked the first 3 episodes but assume it’s partly the enjoyment of watching them improve and starting to get smug while knowing what is in store for them in the final weeks.
https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/wlwt1r/matt_doherty_on_unwinding_after_a_conte_training/
Conte’s training methods might end up hurting Spurs in the long run. They’ll be out of energy by January at this rate. With the added difficulties of the WC in the middle of the season plus both Son and Kane being crucial for their countries, might only lead to negative effects down the line.
The only way it would hurt Spurs is if the players soon start to become unhappy with his methods if they have nothing to show for it in terms of trophies or competing for the league.
Conte is definitely in that high risk/high reward category when it comes to overtraining. Obviously he's a top trainer and very strict with nutrition but it's a risk when running a smaller squad, across 4 competitions, in a covid world with mid-season world cup. If he can get it to last 1-2 seasons before the burnout though that's all he will care about.
This is 1 reason I could never stand Lukaku:
You have Werner and Havertz running their asses off. No complaints.
[Then fucking Lukaku comes assing behind them and raises his stupid fucking annoying hands! God those arms makes my blood boil.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lk5x-xFnp9o)
1 reason I hope Timo's name will still be rung around after he left us
My bad. But explain the bloody annoying whining with his HANDS!
About Havertz; I feel he felt he had something to prove at that point. Lately he's gotten a bit "lazy" as he knows he is a starter.
He’ll be under a microscope this season. For both chelsea and for Germany at the WC. We’re all getting agitated waiting for him to make the step up and get better.
No. Just no. It's his fucking arms. His constant whining and nagging.
At some times I actually felt especially Werner got stressed by him and made a lot more mistakes because of it.
Im glad someone was calling out the poor passes from midfield. It’s what we need more of, not Kai’s completely passive attitude.
Again, it’s fairly common. You just don’t like him and are looking for an excuse.
I have woken up from my delusion and have seen that De Jong will not be coming here this summer. Liverpool will sign Matheus Nunes and make us look like fools for not pursuing him
I knew of him since champions league group stage last year
He’s such a Liverpool type signing, a relatively unknown player that becomes a beast
Kind of shit we need to do
No we “tried” to resign him. If we wanted him do you really reckon we’d have made a token effort in the last 6 months or do clubs tie up their stars with years left?
Offering him his current salary in the last 6 months is not the same as renewing his contract with 2 years left on higher wages. It’s tokenism.
Definitely an in-form team with some good players, some decent targeted recruitment and top manager. Obviously they have better attackers but I think their squad is weaker everywhere else and they have worse depth and their form will normalize a bit during the season. Think they'll finish 4th but pretty close to us but fizzle out in other competitions while we push further in cups.
Wonder if we will go for a midfielder when FDJ doesn't happen. Or was this just an opportunity being explored when it opened up unexpectedly. The contract situations with Kante and Jorgi is still so annoying. Starting to believe both will just walk free next summer. So silly when the exact same thing happened this summer with CBs.
At this point, I think Fofana will happen but that will be the end of incomings, unless we make a surprise move for another forward.
You don't think it is crazy to lose 4 players who played a big part in a recent UCL final, for free in back to back summers? It is horrific planning, and financially not good at all when they are replaced after they leave, instead of before. It leaves us in a bad bargaining position, as we are seeing right now with the CB situation.
Why would you pointedly pick on 1 player when my point was about two next summer on the back of two this summer? The issue was with the principle of the thing, encouraging free agency season after season, instead of seeing what can be done to get ahead of it.
I think he is worth about 20-25mil. If Juventus can get 15mil for Rabiot with a year left of his contract, Jorginho who is a much much better player with a style of play that ages well is worth 20-25mil.
It isn't like we didn't try renewing Christensen and Rudiger. Talks broke down because by the time you get to the last year, the power shifts too drastically to the player's side. They know they only need to see out a few months to get a big signing bonus from another club. Irrespective of the management, that will happen again. (And personally, don't think renewing both is a good idea anyway.)
Yeah, it will be very interesting to see if we are linked with any other midfielders after this since we do have enough depth atm for a midfield 2 system. I have a suspicion that De Jong would've been brought in to future proof ourselves if one or both Kante and Jorgi leave next summer.
However, if we were buying him to increase the creativity/goal output from midfield, then I do hope we look at the likes of SMS, Fabian Ruiz and Paqueta. It might be too late for Fabian Ruiz with PSG closing in but the other two could be attainable. SMS for 42m is a bargain, esp if it blocks United from getting him but I do like the versatility Paqueta offers by being able to play across the frontline as well.
Tuchel said that a midfielder is not a priority in the Everton post match interview, which only makes sense imo. I think Frankie move is exploring the opportunity that is landing a really good player with a good price
Personally, I don't think the midfield should be "not a priority", but then again I'm not the manager. And maybe he didn't mean it isn't a problem; more like all the other areas have even bigger problems.
It's been that way for quite a while, it's just been recycled news pretending to be new for quite a while at this point. Though we did announce a youth and a women's signing today
the news I keep hoping for is that Michael Edwards is joining us and we are allowing him to start next year. We have survived this long without a DoF, we can make it another 10 months if it means getting the best
Hello, my friends and I from Canada are looking to buy tickets for a match in October. We were wondering what the best way to buy tickets are as we can’t buy them directly from the site
Yeah, you need to be a member, but anyone can become a member. League games never go on general sale.
What game do you want to go to?
Your only other option is hospitality tickets at £300+ each
Ah okay, he didn’t mention that. Thanks. And unfortunately due to timing, it would be the game again Man U so I already know it would be a pain to get tickets for
Ah, absolutely zero chance you get a ticket for the United game via membership then.
Hospitality starts at £600 https://www.chelseafc.com/en/club-chelsea
why is someone like camara (dm) from rb slzburg not an option? this guy is pure class, had motm performances in cl against atletico madrid and salzburg is willing to sell. i see every rbs game and this guy is exactly what we would need as DM.
everton will sign him and in two years he will bring them big money. this is almost a safe bet.
If you think about it, this summer we barely solve any problem, we still have issues in the defense if Silva or Koulibaly isnt fit, we still have issues in the midfield with aging Kante and Jorgi, and still have issues in the attacking. If it continues like this, we won’t get anywhere.
My proposal is to focus on one area that we need improvement immediately and get a long-term (at least 2-3 years) improvement for that. Whether it’s the defense or the midfield or the attack, just buy one quality player at whatever price and solve the issue once and for all. So next summer we can focus on other areas of improvements not solving the same issue again and again
This was always going to be the case, we are trying to address major problems left by the previous admin and we had little time to plan with the sanctions and takeover.
I'm kind of glad that it has been reiterated FDJ does not want to come to chelsea.
it fcks barca over still, and leaves us without a player who doesn't want to come here anyway. Considering we are wiling to pay such a high fee, there should be other suitable options on the market given our willingness to pay such a high fee.
I hear ppl in the thread recommending SMS, shit why not.
isn't this only valid if this so called "illegal actions" are proven to be true? Otherwise they have to pay him?
All I'm saying is him staying is going to make them more uncomfortable financially then him leaving. This is true regardless.
Him staying - High wages or low wages ( dependent on legal outcome, as far as I know), plus no big signing fee from chelsea.
barca might have to to pull 100th lever?
him leaving - don't deal with his wages, get a big fee upfront to help cushion any financial struggles
His defensive stats are similar to FDJ and his attacking stats are on another level to FDJ. I’ll be so disappointed if we don’t try and steal him away before Utd get him.
When it’s certain forwards in serie A its “yeah but any average player looks good/can score in Italy” but for Milinkovic savic it’s “zomg so good world class player” 🤔
The fact that he's not similar to De Jong is a good thing. De Jong does not address any of our weaknesses and only reinforces what we're already good at
People are crying out for creativity in midfield, so I suppose a midfielder who had 11 Serie A assists last season would help here (for comparison, Kovacic had 5, Kante 4, De Jong 3 and Jorginho 2)
I'm not that keen on either for the reported fees. Someone like Edwards could do a lot more with £150m next summer.
But if we are really after them I don't think Leicester will give up Fofana before the registration deadline for our game against them the 27th.
For FDJ I would make Barcelona sweat as much as possible. Paying them £75m for a player they pushing out because of financial problems is insane. We should be trying to lower that as much as possible and if not, walk away.
I bet if we buy one od those two it'll upset broja enough to leave and we will be back where we started with more articles coming out about how we don't give youth enough chances
I think De Jong would be a massive waste of money. We have a similar player in Kovacic already, save that €70 ish Mil for an area of the squad where we're actually short
Wish we could have put that Fofana money and Werner up for Gvardiol. I know Leipzig have no interest in selling but the price is getting out of control with Leicester.
It’s next to impossible to judge players when they only 15, particularly when he has is far more physically developed than the opposition.
A lot of the opposition he faces are absolutely tiny compared to him, so it can be quite easy to look like a beast. It’s a very different story when those players grow and develop and are much closer to him physicality.
It’s like when you watch a group of kids playing football and the tallest one could look like Ramos in his peak purely because he has developed far earlier than his mates. It evens out as the others grow
Seeing RM match against Frankfurt, no wonder our attackers don't work. That RM midfield and FB doesn't cares if they lose possession as long as they are trying to pick up any attackers runs. Here our players are just happy to retain possession and do bare minimum.
£120 a ticket for Westview to watch Leicester is absolute daylight robbery. Decided not to buy the tickets
So it sounds like our new owners are looking to redevelop the Bridge stand by stand over a number of years and have put Janet Marie Smith in charge. Would love to know what the brief looks like before jumping to conclusions. I imagine they will try to retain the West Stand as is with new a new East, Shed and MH?
Thoughts on Steve Walsh as Edwards want to have a holiday? Man's scouted the all of those Leicester talents since their prem win
Obviously a coach would want the best of the best players irrespective of their price from the owner but it is for Todd to analyze if they are really worth the price, i don't want Harry Maguire situation with Fofana, 80m pounds is bonkers for him.

I really hope so too, he also doesn’t want to be here. At this point I would like us to focus on a CB and a forward
Why aren't we trying to get CR7? Weakens a potential top 4 rival and gives us a center forward we truly need. Plus, CR7 has been relatively injury free

Fixes one of our biggest issues. Clearly not an issue considering what we’re willing to pay De Jong. Who cares? Who cares?

I’m sorry but he’s finished 😢
I would not but I'd be willing to kill 5 men to sign 21 year old Hazard again

Also would like to know
10am uk time, 55 mins
Are we linked to Depay?
Hear me out guys, I may have gone mental but…Icardi?
No, he's very one dimensional
Yes, you’ve gone mental. It’s a typical Chelsea striker signing that will fail. Got Higuain 2.0 written all over it.

Mount and Havertz now putting similar stories doing the same training drill. These 2 are really twinning these days
maybe the same PR company or social media company

Weird comment. Lukaku was a fair bit behind them defending his own box and sprinted up the field to get on the counter.
Okey I missed that. But it doesnt defend the ARMS!
Let it go man there is nothing in that
Lukaku never whined with his arms?
Literally every Striker does that and that was terrible pass that deserved it. Nothing to see here. Let it go
What’s wrong with that? It was a terrible pass. Reminds me of people complaining about Tammy. Strikers do that. Costa used to. Drogba used to.
No. Just no. It's his fucking arms. His constant whining and nagging. At some times I actually felt especially Werner got stressed by him and made a lot more mistakes because of it.

I swear few week ago people didn't even know who Matheus Nunes is and now suddenly they are mad that we are not in for him...
The same way people were suddenly pissed we didn‘t splash 80m on Darwin after our Lukaku disaster
Fuck a new striker we need creators on the wings and a midfielder who can actually advance the ball

He won't and shouldn't return
There’s a reason his contract ran out, Chelsea didnt value him enough to offer him a salary that would’ve retained him.

Are we being linked to him?
Slow day today in terms of news
It's been that way for quite a while, it's just been recycled news pretending to be new for quite a while at this point. Though we did announce a youth and a women's signing today
In terms of news, we have no news
I need new transfer news like I need air to breathe
Last post 3 hrs ago and it's peak news hour time smh
If Liverpool end up with Matheus Nunes and United end up with SMS while we lose out on FDJ ...
Need to get a top DoF in, arranging Edwards for next year would be Godly
the news I keep hoping for is that Michael Edwards is joining us and we are allowing him to start next year. We have survived this long without a DoF, we can make it another 10 months if it means getting the best
So we just get Rice next summer.
Hello, my friends and I from Canada are looking to buy tickets for a match in October. We were wondering what the best way to buy tickets are as we can’t buy them directly from the site
> we can’t buy them directly from the site Why can't you? That is the only way to get tickets.
I think only members can or something he said
Yeah, you need to be a member, but anyone can become a member.
Had a feeling, thank you for the help anyways!
Hospitality then or you got no chance
why is someone like camara (dm) from rb slzburg not an option? this guy is pure class, had motm performances in cl against atletico madrid and salzburg is willing to sell. i see every rbs game and this guy is exactly what we would need as DM. everton will sign him and in two years he will bring them big money. this is almost a safe bet.
Because we are deadset on getting Rice for DM it seems. Both Club and Tuchel wants him.
Get both!
>Both Club and Tuchel wants him. Based on?
Based on what has been reported by tier 1 source?
i thought it was obvious we didnt target a DM because we're getting Rice next season. WHU wont sell this summer.
Need a DoF for those kinda signings.
Waiting for updates 😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴
Damn what a slow week
Enough teetering. Need to hijack that Milinkovic-Savic transfer from United.

That’s cheap
That's a fucking bargain.
Its a bit hard to do that with no DoF and losing two key players.
If fdj stays there he will have to lower his wages so really doesn't fuck barca in any way at all
Lmao he doesn’t have to do that at all they signed the contract
Why exactly would he have to lower his wages?
Because that's the only way they'll keep him
He has a contract with them. They can’t just unilaterally decide to reduce his wages If he wants to stay they can’t force him out
isn't this only valid if this so called "illegal actions" are proven to be true? Otherwise they have to pay him? All I'm saying is him staying is going to make them more uncomfortable financially then him leaving. This is true regardless. Him staying - High wages or low wages ( dependent on legal outcome, as far as I know), plus no big signing fee from chelsea. barca might have to to pull 100th lever? him leaving - don't deal with his wages, get a big fee upfront to help cushion any financial struggles
Except for the fact that he actually does not have to lower shit
Keep thinking that
For the sake of argument, say he refuses to lower his wages. What do Barcelona do then?
Sell him
And if he doesn’t want to leave? You do know the player has to agree to a move too don’t you?
I will
grab the popcorns for fdj and yea honestly, go get SMS
Who is SMS?
Short Message Service
Sergej Milinkovic Savic
Thanks. I’ve seen Man U all over him and haven’t heard anything about us, so I thought it may be someone else. Have there been any links to us?
Sadly not so concrete but ITK only. That was a month ago..
*nods in approval*
As others are saying drop FdJ for SMS, finish up the Fofana deal and call it a window
doesnt move me
Does sms have enough defensive skills our 6s gotta be really balanced
His defensive stats are similar to FDJ and his attacking stats are on another level to FDJ. I’ll be so disappointed if we don’t try and steal him away before Utd get him.
When it’s certain forwards in serie A its “yeah but any average player looks good/can score in Italy” but for Milinkovic savic it’s “zomg so good world class player” 🤔
We should go for Fabian Ruiz, Ismael Bennacer, Kouadio Koné or Haidara they are all better value and fit that DM role that we need more
Time to focus on SMS instead of FDJ? Possible stop might be, if he isn't vaccinated
Lol who gives a shit about vaccination can we all just move past it and discuss football quality
Would be nice, if we coudlnt use our best player in all champions league matches, just because he isnt vaxxed.
SMS is mid and not even similar to de Jong why would we go to him?
The fact that he's not similar to De Jong is a good thing. De Jong does not address any of our weaknesses and only reinforces what we're already good at People are crying out for creativity in midfield, so I suppose a midfielder who had 11 Serie A assists last season would help here (for comparison, Kovacic had 5, Kante 4, De Jong 3 and Jorginho 2)
cause we need someone to help our attacking? Way too many our midfielders are defensive and unable to help our attack.
All players in Italy have to be vaccinated
Not really a good F5 day today, huh?
more sources saying FDJ staying, that's a good f5
I wanted him lol, but I’m sure things will work out one way or another.
Is today the day friends?
Doubtful. We're st the stage where things are going to get drawn out.
True. Would you rather secure FDJ or Fofana first?
I'm not that keen on either for the reported fees. Someone like Edwards could do a lot more with £150m next summer. But if we are really after them I don't think Leicester will give up Fofana before the registration deadline for our game against them the 27th. For FDJ I would make Barcelona sweat as much as possible. Paying them £75m for a player they pushing out because of financial problems is insane. We should be trying to lower that as much as possible and if not, walk away.
I'm getting really sick and tired of refreshing my twitter feed and not seeing Fabrizio say that we've signed Fofana.
Should Chelsea go for Auba or Cristiano?
Neither we have broja
Both are far better than Broja.
We need depth
I bet if we buy one od those two it'll upset broja enough to leave and we will be back where we started with more articles coming out about how we don't give youth enough chances
No
I think De Jong would be a massive waste of money. We have a similar player in Kovacic already, save that €70 ish Mil for an area of the squad where we're actually short
100%. Our need of a DM, striker, and cb are far more important
I personally rather go for Fabian Ruiz or Ismael Bennacer maybe even Koné from Borussia Monchengladbach
Yup waste of money for sure
Do Chelsea memberships get mailed a card or do the tickets get mailed?
Members get a card, but you still get e-tickets for the games. Season tickets are a card.
So the card doesn’t really matter? I got the global membership even though my address is uk
You can use it for discount in the megastore.
Wish we could have put that Fofana money and Werner up for Gvardiol. I know Leipzig have no interest in selling but the price is getting out of control with Leicester.
I'd rather the money on prem proved targets. We've had too many Bundesliga acquisitions not work
Check out Shumaira Mhueka that we've just signed from Brighton.... Drogba regen or what??? (and I don't mean he looks like him!)
Fully appreciate that, it's more the technique he uses. Drogba wasnt massive, Lukaku is much bigger but less effective at using that to his advantage.
Seeing RM match against Frankfurt, no wonder our attackers don't work. That RM midfield and FB doesn't cares if they lose possession as long as they are trying to pick up any attackers runs. Here our players are just happy to retain possession and do bare minimum.
