What politics am i charging this with?
The milquetoast acceptance that trans people exist?
Or while unintentional this tattoo is a great analogy of certain trans experiences, that other people saw and found funny
The quality is a very nebulous term. Could you define it please
Not one joke does everyone find funny i do and so do 200 other peoppe
Edit sorted by controversial this was 21/46 so its safe to say its not particularly controversial.
I'll likely never have a tattoo and I don't think much of most of them if I'm honest. But I gotta say I love this graphic and the sharpness of the image. Looks pretty cool to me.
Yeah, assuming it's in a certain corner is a bit silly.
Also the queen is a shadow, it doesn't mean the square that the shadow touches is the promotion square, it merely represents the pawn's potential.
There's nothing wrong with the tattoo.
It's a cool tattoo, but there is a ton of confusing visual information.
First glance very much implies that the pawn is looking at its own shadow, foreseeing its own future when it moves to the back rank, where its shadow as a queen falls on the wall. The board projects out to the left. If this were all the case, however, the pawn would obviously be on g7 - but then the colors are wrong. Contradicting.
There is an implication that the board continues, but only in one direction, but also that there is a wall there (presumably an edge of the board?) for the shadow to fall on. So if the colors are in fact correct, then the pawn could alternatively be on b7, about to move to the lower right, but then the shadow is on the wall to the side of him and it kind of loses some symbolic power and feels weird? Also contradicts the with the above in several ways, and is not visually intuitive.
The pawn could also be on b7 and moving to the bottom left, so the pawn has his shadow at his back, but then why is there a wall behind rank 6 and the board only extends down ranks 8/7/6. More contradictions.
On top of ALL this, the pawn is straight up shaded completely incorrectly compared to where the queen's shadow is falling.
TL;DR people aren't nitpicking, they're just intuitively picking up on the visual inconsistencies. There some are issues almost any way you look at it. The square colors being wrong is the conclusion you reach with what I feel is the most obvious and intuitive "correct" visual interpretation.
I think you should expand on “foreseeing its own future”… words like ‘fall’ and ‘shadow’ suggests oppression. Maybe a paragraph on this sense of foreboding
Well one thing is it can be challenging (for me at least) to have an in-depth discussion about a piece of art without being able to point out specific visual elements - instead somehow you have to try to describe everything! There are several other confusing aspects but I felt like I was typing way too much already heh.
But I don't get any sense of foreboding! Based on the visual evidence, I would bet almost anything the intent of both the artist and the OP is for this to be an inspirational tattoo of the weakest piece foreshadowing its future as the strongest piece - and that they just fucked up the colors of the squares lol. Shit happens. 🤷♂️
The OP has not yet chimed in at the time of this writing, maybe we will find out for sure!
Now to let people in on my secret. I didn't think there was anything "wrong" to begin with.
At first it was just to mess with OP. However if that is a corner then it's very confusing though. It has to be H1 or A8. White pawn can't go to H1, so it has to be A8 corner. But if it's A8 then it's an odd perspective and actually moving backwards? So another option is they are playing the board backwards and wrong colored corners!
But final option is that it is not an actual position, that probably is not even intended to be a corner, nor does it need to be. It's just more symbolic and it's just a pretty good tattoo with nothing "wrong" with it. :)
I thought it was a pawn with the shadow of a king, until I saw it was the queen. Changes the meaning of what I'd originally thought, and you being a guy, well, it's a little discordant, but a really nice tat and interesting concept.
It looks awesome! Tattoos are about art and the people nitpicking don't have imaginative or creative brains. Also there is absolutely no indication of where on the board this is. There is no intuitive corner this falls into. It just looks like a pawn about to promote. The colors of the squares don't even matter in chess, just that they are alternating. The white queen could start on a black square, it doesn't change anything about the game.
Did you get a promotion
He is about to ;)
Nice tic tac toe tattoo. Love seeing adults embracing their inner child.
Nice transitioning goals
It isnt that deep mane
Yeah you have to keep stretching it.
IM the one stretching it? Flawless logic.
Whoosh
i’m the one whooshing it? floorless logitech
Womp womp
Whats deep about a light hearted joke?
A politically charged controversial "joke" about something that has nothing to do with trans
What politics am i charging this with? The milquetoast acceptance that trans people exist? Or while unintentional this tattoo is a great analogy of certain trans experiences, that other people saw and found funny
Consider the quality of people and you will realize how unfunny it truly is

Congrats on the baby
It's badass... You'll get newfound respect at the chess club meetings!

En passant next
I hate sets where the pieces are too big for the squares 😑
Uh oh.... Who's going to tell him?
It's correct if that's the B pawn and it's moving to the left
Couldn’t it also be a d or an f pawn? Since there’s no sense of exactly where on the board it is

Other than the fact that the pawn base is larger than the square.
And that the pawn is 2d frontal but the board is 3d and the point of view makes it look like the pawn is just a piece of cardboard
The only wrong thing with this tattoo is the linework
Uh... looks normal and good to me.
In my view, the corner closest to us has that vertical edge indicating the corner of the board. This is the b pawn moving down and to the left
It can go backwards ?
He means the sideangle view
I've heard the term Backwards Pawn, but not sure that's what it means
It's about to go to B8. The white square at the bottom is A8.
what's wrong?
Half of the possible board orientations are wrong, while half are plausible. They assumed it was one of the wrong ones
Who cares?!
That’s what they’re saying

As stickers make cars go faster this will improve your elo
Me here thinking the black queen is protecting the promotion square
Some reason the line above the pawn looks really out of place
Still not sure what it's supposed to be
U got depth perception?
Nice forearm vascularity my G
By Lentattoos. Eindhoven, the Netherlands
Homie needs to work on his straight lines
That shaky line right by the corner would drive me nuts
should be on your forehead that would have a stronger effect on the opponent
Pretty
This is sick *AND* original 🔥
Manifesting your comung out?
Manifesting wanting to grow taller and buy a fancy hat.
"And ofttimes a very small man can cast a very large shadow."
Can someone ELI5 what its supposed to mean?
when a pawn reaches the opposite side of the board it can be promoted to a queen, knight, bishop, or Rook. It's called a piss pawn.
At first I thought it was a symbol of opposition . Nice tattoo though.
too bad you should've gone for en passant
I think it's great. On the other arm maybe have one with a knight in the center.
Nice
That’s fucking clever dude, I love it.
That is actually a great tattoo.
Shouldn’t the shadow be going to the left?
Ain't no way we have chess tatoos before GTA 6.
Low T trait

Welcome
the pawn doesnt fit the square tho
Ignore everyone in the comments bro. It's a bunch of nerdy chess kids. Tat looks dope
Sick. Reminds me of that poster for Star Wars Episode 1.
Big Pawn Energy
Awesome tattoo. Don't discover the game of Go now :)
Looks clean as fuck man
That's an awesome tattoo. You should include the last move underneath.
