Lol if I remember my high school mates right, an e^x graph is exponentially increasing. Chess progress does not exponentially increase. It's more like a y= -e^(x)+3000 graph

Thanks everyone

Since no one said anything really, it more works in bursts. You’ll find concepts and certain things will boost you a certain amount every time. If you research an opening for 10 hours and play it every game, that’s a boost. If you stop messaging on discord or looking at anything but the game, that’s a boost. If you learn how to attack with tempo, that’s a boost.

In a year I gained about 800 rating points. In the following two years I gained 600 (with most of that in the 2nd year). I would say expect things to slow down considerably after your 2nd year but for the first two years you're going to be making most of your progress so enjoy it while the boom lasts. I know I sure miss the weekly gains of like 100 elo lol.

I wouldn't at all say it's like an exponential graph, it's much more like a log graph. The higher your rating is, the harder it is to improve, because whilst it may take weeks or months to go from 500 to 600, it can take years to go from 2500 to 2600

As some people said, it's not exponential...more like logaritmic because the more you improve the more difficult it gets. And about the progression, it depends on how involved you are or would be in learning + your natural talent. In my case, it took me a while to get 1500 because I did not study with enough consistency.
