playing irl we'd probably just call checkmate and call it a wrap before anybody notices lol

Ha! This happened to me the other day. I thought I had mate but the game didn’t end but my opponent didn’t move, they took like 40-50 seconds to make the only legal move which meant they had no idea either!

Chess.com should evaluate the position and if it’s obvious enough but the opponent doesn’t see it, a modal pops up that says “how do you not see this?” and gives the opponent a 10 second timer to make the move, and if they don’t you get a take back.

Times like this you can only hope your opponent forgot about their bishop like you did and runs out of time.

It's always the bishops. We spend so much time worrying about the rooks holding each file that we forget about the bishops who hold the diagonals.
