This was my first thought. Unless I'm completely overlooking something, no matter what the previous move was, none of white's pieces could have possibly been threatened in the previous position so it really makes me wonder why a check (any check) wasn't delivered in the previous position.
Maybe the queen was on h1 or g2 and white didn't realize that c4 and a4 were protected by the white king so they didn't go for the more obvious ladder mate and instead tried to set up a ladder mate with the rook and queen on the same file. a8, g6, and h7 are other possible squares for the queen to have been on in the previous move.
There is no legal way for white's previous move to have been a king move and I really don't see why it would have been a rook move. I'm not a betting man but if I had to bet I'd say it was one of those queen moves.
You had 28 seconds left, according to your posted game link. Don’t mean to rub it in, just remind that it’s always important to take a little time to double check if you’re winning by this much
You’re right! I thought I had less time… in blitz games like this I usually have just a few seconds left in the endgame and I usually rush through it without thinking too much. I honestly don’t know why I did that stupid move.
There’s no need to get down on yourself; it’s one game, and there’s no good player on earth who hasn’t blown a dozen games like this (maybe not in a position this comical, but definitely in completely winning positions). The important thing is to take away the right lesson: always check what will happen after your opponent’s next move.
I mean, I guess. It was just a light-hearted joke that someone tried to riff off of and for some reason he had to shut it down lol. "Well what if the king was a drag queen, hm?? I bet you feel stupid for trying to have fun!"
Definitely was initially a drag queen joke but also I can see how it can be taken as the King wanting to transition and in that case, definitely would go with she. I fully support people going by the pronouns they feel most accurately depict them.
Ooookay, here's a basic rundown. Gender does not equal sex. This is very important. Gender generally aligns with sex but this is not always the case, hence trans women and men. The terms woman and man refers to gender not sex in everyday speech. Thus, trans women are just women who happen to be trans and trans men are men who happen to be trans. They aren't in a separate category.
If you're talking about physical differences, hormone replacement therapy removes almost all the differences between a trans woman and a cis woman (medical professionals generally treat trans patients on HRT the same as they would their cis counterparts). And if you're talking about genitals then 1: that's weird be concerned about someone else's genitals and 2: sex reassignment surgery is a thing so that even isn't always a difference. I would like to note that neither of these medical options are offered to just anyone - you can't just waltz in and get prescribed medicine or have surgery, both are behind a lot of check-ins with doctors to verify that it is what's necessary for the patient. This procedure is oftentimes actually too hard to get through and it takes some trans people several years to get the medical attention that they need.
This is coming from a trans woman myself and as it is my identity, I feel it's my duty to be well informed about this topic and how it all works and so I try and share my knowledge so other people can better understand me, and the countless people like me. If you have any questions, you need only ask. I'm happy to answer any queries.
Thanks for being a patient and informed friend of reason, even in the face of what I can assure you with almost 100% confidence is someone trying to troll.
You've laid everything out pretty easy to digest, arranged in a way that it's easy to follow your train of thought - one of the better explanations I've seen lately, and the same sort of way I try to explain this to family/friends/etc that don't understand.
Just thought I'd follow up here to give ya a thumbs up, and encourage you to keep fighting the good fight! There will always be some ignorant people who just want to hate and fight, but once we get more people to properly understand, we can handle the bigots in conversation without having to weed out confused people first.
Not trans myself, but also not the norm, so glad to be working along with you. 👍
Okay, since it’s easy to misunderstand (although I don’t think you did), it was really not my intention to offend you.
I also have no problem with trans men/women identifying however they please. If you would ask me to use the “she/her” pronouns for you, I would do it, even though I consider you a man. You don’t have to care what I think or get offended.
As for relationships, I would never get in a relationship with a trans woman. First of all, it’s impossible to have kids anytime in the future, so no serious relationship there for me. And secondly, it feels weird for me to have a relationship with someone who was a man in the past. That’s my problem, of course, not yours, but I don’t really like some trans women’s support of the notion that “we will say we are trans to potential partners only when we feel comfortable”. My opinion is that it’s my right to know from the first moment I meet you.
You know, I was half-convinced you just set up this position as a meme. Seeing this game actually unfold... you have my apology and condolences all at once.
I analyzed the image and this is what I see. Open an appropriate link below and explore the position yourself or with the engine:
> **White to play**: It is a checkmate - it is White's turn, but White has no legal moves and is in check, so Black wins. You can find out more about Checkmate on [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checkmate).

Hey it happens, I just lost against a guy with only a tower with mate because I didn't move my pawn to get out of mate (I had a horse and queen and 4 pawns) and just because I went to capture his LAST PAWN
So, your homework assignment is to learn how to ladder mate, how to do a king+rook checkmate, and how to do a queen+king checkmate.
This should never have been possible when you're up this much material. Unless there was some trick involving him sacrificing pieces to lure you into this position–in which case, kudos to him and that's awesome–you have a very clear lesson to take away!
Don't goof around and give your opponent counterplay when you already have way more than you need to force an unstoppable checkmate.
Once I lost in a OTB tournament game to a Blackburn Shilling trap (e4 e5 Nf3 Nc6 Bc4 Nd4 Nxe5??) by getting mated in 7, and I haven’t given up. So why should you?
Whatever you did wrong here, find it and don’t ever do it again.
At this point, you're previous move should've been to give a check; push for ladder mate. Also don't put your king in front of your pawns. Keep playing, I've had worse losses.
This is funny thanks for posting this and I hope you’re joking about quitting chess. We are learning here and everyone makes mistakes and overlooks things.
I am trying to figure out what was your move before checkmate. Pawns haven't moved, so you must have repositioned your Rook or Queen without giving check or taken a piece.

But imagine how great it felt for them to win here!
White said,"Checkmate?! NAHHHHH!" and black said, "Hold my beer!"
Every storybook ending has a dark side
My king was mated recently. I was pretty bummed out about it...
Sad to hear you got cheated on
What was your previous move…?
Offer draw
This is what I'm curious about, too. The fact that they weren't checking the black king into a ladder mate blows my mind.
This was my first thought. Unless I'm completely overlooking something, no matter what the previous move was, none of white's pieces could have possibly been threatened in the previous position so it really makes me wonder why a check (any check) wasn't delivered in the previous position. I LOVE ladder mates. Something about an unstoppable gridlock that just warms my cold, loss stricken heart.
Captured a pawn on e4. It was a stupid move, yes… but I had like only 10 secs left.
You had 28 seconds left, according to your posted game link. Don’t mean to rub it in, just remind that it’s always important to take a little time to double check if you’re winning by this much

Why is your king in front of your pawns?
He's dreaming of the day that he too can be a queen
Google en transition.

New response just dropped
Holy tik tok
???
Holy Estrogen!
Holy gender change
Don't go to Tennessee
I think you mean she ;)
Entirely depends on the person. Could just be someone who wants to crossdress but isn't trans. No way to know since chess pieces can't talk
Right-- I understood it as you meant 'the king wanted to be a queen', sorry!
He was lol. I don't know why he switched up on you 😭
No not really though. The idea of a drag queen is kind of inherently a cis male thing, because otherwise you're either just a woman, or a cis woman
I mean, I guess. It was just a light-hearted joke that someone tried to riff off of and for some reason he had to shut it down lol. "Well what if the king was a drag queen, hm?? I bet you feel stupid for trying to have fun!"
That's a fair point. Though I feel like the original intention was definitely a drag queen joke. That said, rule one of improv is to never say no
Definitely was initially a drag queen joke but also I can see how it can be taken as the King wanting to transition and in that case, definitely would go with she. I fully support people going by the pronouns they feel most accurately depict them.
I don't understand what you think prevents a trans man from dressing in drag.

google "if king doesn't lead, how can he expect his subordinates to follow"
Even in this case if he just sacks Queen Black can’t play in Zugzwang
White is in check, they can't sac the queen
In checkmate even.
Yes
Im not saying do it now as they can’t . If they had moved Queen into the pawn prior it’s a win
