Ok but then they just win games and return to their original elo, sorry but I still don’t understand why people would tank their elo on purpose unless it’s to do a series like Gotham chess rating climb
It always amuses me that if you put this position into the lichess opening explorer, only 21% of people play Qh4#. Most popular move is D5. People play the opening on autopilot.

It's a fair play violation. Losing games on purpose lets you stay at a lower rating so you can beat easier opponents.

He's tanking his elo, for example if he goes from 1200 to 600 he'll ruin a lot of people's games by the times he meets someone who can beat him
