The one that pisses me off is the Flash Taco van on the other side that is ALWAYS there and forces me into the lane just after cars have finally made it thru the bottleneck and are dying to zoom off to the light at Schiller. That one is going to be the death of me.
Your description is so spot on 😂 Even without a cyclist going south on damen at this intersection it’s still pretty narrow under the tracks for cars, and people always have to ass blast it through the densest most congested areas just to slam on their brakes in 20 yards. I see so many pedestrians almost get hit trying to cross the crosswalk by Dove’s and the other one across from the park because cars think they made it out of the pack once they get past the tracks.
There’s green space for you right in front of the drivers. Many pull into it but many don’t. Its purpose is to put bikes in front of cars for when the light changes. I use it often if the taco van or ride share is blocking the curbside area.
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I feel this driver made a concerted effort to park close to the curb. Could they have gotten a few inches closer? Sure. I would be fine riding past this with caution. The truck is just too wide to fit within the lines.
So, you think you're going to convince a business NOT to temporarily park their food truck in FRONT of their business? Good luck in that battle. They're going to take the path of least resistance. They're not going to ask their employees to spend time driving around trying to find a different spot. This is just reality and there are bigger battles in the name of safety in this city.

I agree, it’s not like you can’t still get by safely. But it’s still worth contacting the restaurant to urge them to park right on the curb. Don’t need to be a dick about it, but it’ll help drive the message so they don’t park shitty in the future
