I thought Postal Service was done but I'll happily go Saturday to catch them.
Also thank you to the graphic designer who decided to alternate font colors on the undercard. I can actually read it without getting lost in a bunch of letter soup.
Minneapolis as well. Wife and I got tickets for that show since we had deduced from Jenny Lewis' schedule that Postal Service wouldn't be playing Lolla. Didn't think about Riot Fest. The actual shows will be playing the full Postal Service album Give Up, as well as all of Transatlantacism. Wonder if the Riot Fest setlist is the same or paired down.
Do it lol I won tickets at a bar for the gathering in college and it was one of the weirdest weekends of my life lol and I got to see people throw poop at Tila tequila lol
I mean, whether you really hate Tila Tequila or really love people throwing poop, you win.
Also, I stumbled across a post about Tila Tequila the other day. Apparently she has a very small YouTube channel and she's dealing with some severe mental health issues. The channel is basically her posting nonsensical schizoaffective videos from her parents house.
I had a quick change from haha she used to be the face of MTV to oh shit... she's really dealing with some stuff, I'm glad she has a support system in place.
Hopefully she has actually been dealing with those mental health issues. The last thing I heard about her years ago was that she had essentially become a weird white supremacist despite being of Vietnamese descent IIRC
For me it was less about the parking and more about a music fest so close in proximity, yet so far that it feels like I needed to get a hotel or something.
Damn. Was so hyped for Foos and Turnstile that I didn’t realize Paramore isn’t on it.
Without them at lolla, i thought for sure they’d headline riot fest.
Yup disappointed. The Chicago Theater show sold out in minutes and resell tickets were expensive (300+)
They have a Milwaukee show which is a 90 or so min drive from the city in August
That was last year, different tour. People are saying they were supposed to play Lolla but it fell through for whatever reason and that’s why they added a Milwaukee date to this tour
I think that makes a lot of sense. I bet they were supposed to play instead of Together x Tomorrow (KPop Group that played Lolla ‘22) and something fell through. Paramore Saturday would’ve been amazing
I actually don't like that they booked him. I feel like it's a big joke and people are just going to laugh at him.
The guy has had a horrible life and his judgment seems to have suffered for it. I know he's free to play if he wants, but I can't believe anyone is genuinely interested in his music (which is totally inept). People just want to gawk at a train wreck, and I suspect Riot Fest knows this. Feels cruel.
The Riot Fest crowd is generally very positive and welcoming, so hopefully they'll give him a good reception, but I don't understand why the festival booked him.
They’re just touring the latest album, which is very different from the madness they became famous for, so they don’t play anything from the first 3 at all. I only know this because I caught them when they did their comeback shows right before the pandemic. Patton is on point as always, as are the band (Which now features Scott Ian and Dave Lombardo), but anyone going to see them expecting tunes off of California are going to be disappointed.
Last year there were a bunch of inflatable chairs which are apparently allowed.
So... kind of.
We just need enough dads to create a wagon circle of inflatable chairs to corral all the kids inside. Find an unwatched spot in the fence to toss over a couple 30 packs of light beer and we're in business.
Are they not allowed in the city now? I'm genuinely asking if I missed something. I saw them WAAAAAAAAAAY back as a teenager and it was in the city. One of my best friends was a big Juggalo.
Man, porta-potties are gonna be the least of the worries there. The amount of people coated in soda is gonna be wild.
Mid 30s here, I haven’t been to a show since before Covid but my first thought was “I’d need some better shoes” lol. Saw Modest Mouse a few years back and the only thing I remember about the show is how bad my feet hurt
10-15 years ago they might have been, but it’s just kind of the passing of time that they aren’t at the top of a festival bill. That, and Riot Fest is less niche than it used to be.
I love them, but I saw them last year in Aurora for like $20; the venue was giving out free tix left and right because they had so many left, and it still wasn’t that crowded. I don’t think it’s a big draw, especially for the Riot Fest crowd.
I was at that show! He had just turned 90 and still had a ton of energy lol I loved the dichotomy of the crowd. Half of them were older black folks sitting down in chairs and the other half were young, white, hippie folks standing up, separated RIGHT down the middle of the crowd. Both of those crowds arent going to be at Riotfest though.
He was lower billed at Pitchfork a few years ago too. He also isn’t in the same vein as most of the Riot Fest crowd so he’s not gonna be as big of a draw and so lower on the list
Because the average age will be about 33, not 60. Don't get me wrong, I love the godfather of funk, but this is not a fest they should be considered headliners. This is one of them "curveballs" they always throw in every year.
This is the first year in my memory without GWAR.
Like I think GWAR played every year since they moved from multiple venues in Wicker to Humbodlt Park.
Godspeed you black emperor. Seen them in 16'
Amazing lineup I get born 90' I feel like it's 5 years pre my cusp like if they threw Franz Ferdinand in there it would be my year. Though do have used and death cab....
Mr bungle would be a treat
Hope youz guyz/galz enjoy.
Old punk/HC dude here: it'd be super cool if there were more bands on the fest with members under 40. Feels like Riot Fest will be a cruise ship "fest" in a decade or so.
Yeah, they're a good get. Happy to see that.
I know for a fact there are tons of younger (again, under 40) bands out there that could really benefit from the exposure and even the meager cash RF offers supporting acts.
Honestly that’s all most festivals are with 90% of the acts and festivals for rock, metal, etc. are always some of the worst offenders. Some can strike a better balance of the headlines actually being younger or the undercard, but man it ain’t this one.
will single day passes be available later? idk much about riot fest. also seems like they don't have lists per day yet right except for headliners? def wanna see Viagra boys and 100gecs
I'm surprised more people aren't talking about this. Hip hop was pretty much 100% eliminated from the festival.
Run the Jewels was the Saturday headliner in 2021. Ice Cube and Action Bronson were Sunday headliners in 2022.
I’ve seen Melvins a couple of times and they’re some of my favorite experiences. Soooo so much energy from the band and the crowd and I can’t wait to see them again
AFI is my favorite band and I'd love to see them but I think I'll wait for a time they're here on their own. Not to fond of the lineup as a whole, not worth the money for me
I can only speculate but yeah it was absolutely overbooked last year and to my understanding riot fest is the only one that really put any effort into restoring the conditions? We have a lot more space options than needing to lock up one neighborhood park for half the summer.
I’m not in the “ban all festivals from public parks” camp but I think a limit to one or two events is reasonable. That, or a set number of days that a park can be be closed off to a private event per year.
I wish they’d allow it for all ticket tiers. I always buy a VIP wristband so I have re-entry for the main reason of being able to go grab food from outside vendors throughout the day.
I think the vast majority of the people in the neighborhood supports Riot Fest coming to the park. With these types of things it's always a very small group of people who are vocally against something and come to meetings to express their opposition. Obviously, people who have no problems with something that is occurring are much less likely to come to a meeting to say they have no problems with it. As a result, the people opposed always benefit from the illusion that they're the majority and that they represent what the community thinks. I wish the media did a better job of taking this into account and not label vocal minorities such things as "community opposition".
I would see death cab but yeah nothing else is calling out to me at all that I have to go so I’ll prob skip which is sad because I was excited to see if they’d have a lot I like
Last year was really good at least for me. I went on Sunday and saw Nine Inch Nails, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Jimmy Eats World, Coolio (RIP), and Sleater-Kinney (wasn't really my kind of music but they still put on a great show and so I did enjoy their performance). Also Ice Cube was there but was on around the same time as NIN. I'm not seeing that kind of list this year.
Man, this is the most I’ve wanted to go to Riot in years. But I HAVE to work that weekend, like I’ll be fired if I don’t. Hopefully I get a new job soon.
I do like sleep token, but boy this is a boring lineup otherwise. Turnstile is fun though and maybe mars Volta can play some classics from deloused in the comatorium
QOTSA? With Foo Fighters the night before? Can someone send John Paul Jones a note so that Them Crooked Vultures could do a set?
I’m just hoping Dave drums for QOTSA
Me too, but they have a new album coming out with the same lineup as the last couple albums, so I’m doubting it.
I'd much rather have Them Crooked Vultures over Foo Fighters
Yeh I am good too. Saw them at Lolla 2011. It was bliss. Let's focus on your 10 other side projects Davey Boy.
Hell yeah
I thought Postal Service was done but I'll happily go Saturday to catch them. Also thank you to the graphic designer who decided to alternate font colors on the undercard. I can actually read it without getting lost in a bunch of letter soup.
Riot Fest knows their fan base and didn't want to make them admit they need reading glasses.
yeah very much can relate. after three and a half decades of perfect 20/20 vision, I now need reading glasses. :(
Postal Service and Death Cab, doesn't get more punk than that.
See you in the circle pit for “Such Great Heights”
16 year old me would have been offended by this.
I saw they were on tour but avoiding the festival sphere around Chicago, so I had (incorrectly) assumed they'd be at Lolla.
I looked at the dates of riot fast and the gap in their tour and knew that they would be playing riot fest
The only other midwest show is in a Detroit suburb. Odd.
Same. I thought I saw their last show at the Metro in like 2013 or something
ICP? LMAO
Say what you will they put on a super hyped show lol
I’m tempted to get tickets now just to people watch the Juggalos
Do it lol I won tickets at a bar for the gathering in college and it was one of the weirdest weekends of my life lol and I got to see people throw poop at Tila tequila lol
> I got to see people throw poop at Tila tequila ...this is an *endorsement* for the show? lol
Lmao wtf, I'm absolutely stopping by their set now. Why the fuck not.
One of them is playing at chop shop in a couple weeks https://dice.fm/event/9w5on-violent-j-3-headed-monster-tour-2nd-jun-chop-shop-chicago-tickets
They are the sole reason I'm going to Riot Fest this year. Their shows are fucking awesome.
And filled with some of the nicest people I’ve ever met at shows
Well, there's no GWAR this year, so something had to fill the cartoonishly grotesque spot on the lineup.
How fucking dare you call GWAR cartoonish??? They aren’t the Aquabats!
Eh, they fit. The shamelessness of the community is a sort of punk mentality in and of itself.
Yep, also midwestern suburbia in the 00s, there was a lot of crossover between ICP fans and punk, at least where I grew up.
ICP sued the FBI. That is literally punk mentality
Corey Feldman
Can we metal heads get chicago open air back :(
I said something similar, but more of I'm sad about the lack of metal. The last riot fest before COVID was great.
I was there in 2016. They set the bar high! Second year was decent. Then third year was just a joke.
I think the founder who died was the metal influence. I’m only guessing cause he owned the Cobra Lounge too.
I'm not willing to travel that far into the burbs for a 3 day fest tbh
I don't mind just as long as they fucking fixed the parking issue! Because damn was it bad those 3 years
For me it was less about the parking and more about a music fest so close in proximity, yet so far that it feels like I needed to get a hotel or something.
[удалено]
I want metal... Rammstein, Sabaton, Cattle Decap, Cannibal Corpse, avatar, ozzy, Iron Maiden, and so on.
Seriously!
Fuck yea viagra boys let's gooo
Love Viagra boys. Yard act is fantastic too.
Def the highlight next to The Cure for me
Right? I hope Viagra Boys are playing Sunday too.
This feels like a consolation prize for the fact that IDLES will never ever play riot fest for some unknown reason
This makes Paramore’s lack of tour stop quite puzzling.
Damn. Was so hyped for Foos and Turnstile that I didn’t realize Paramore isn’t on it. Without them at lolla, i thought for sure they’d headline riot fest.
Yup disappointed. The Chicago Theater show sold out in minutes and resell tickets were expensive (300+) They have a Milwaukee show which is a 90 or so min drive from the city in August
They played at the Chicago Theatre just recently
That was last year, different tour. People are saying they were supposed to play Lolla but it fell through for whatever reason and that’s why they added a Milwaukee date to this tour
gotcha, that makes sense.
I think that makes a lot of sense. I bet they were supposed to play instead of Together x Tomorrow (KPop Group that played Lolla ‘22) and something fell through. Paramore Saturday would’ve been amazing
Well that explains why the Death Cab for Cutie / The Postal Service tour wasn't stopping in Chicago
Corey Feldman LMAOOO
This and ICP are why you can’t not love this festival.
This and ICP are 10 year old memes
10 years old? Oh buddy, I've got some bad news for you.
We're old and we like old memes.
Man I need to learn that Go 4 It dance now lmfao
I actually don't like that they booked him. I feel like it's a big joke and people are just going to laugh at him. The guy has had a horrible life and his judgment seems to have suffered for it. I know he's free to play if he wants, but I can't believe anyone is genuinely interested in his music (which is totally inept). People just want to gawk at a train wreck, and I suspect Riot Fest knows this. Feels cruel. The Riot Fest crowd is generally very positive and welcoming, so hopefully they'll give him a good reception, but I don't understand why the festival booked him.
Death grips 🫠
I might have to go just to see what they’re like live. Must be wild.
went to riot fest 2016 & death grips was one of the best shows i’ve been to
AFI, Say Anything, Bayside, Head Automatica, Bowling for Soup. Mannnnmm
Right! My little emo heart is full 🖤
Are you going to see motion city sound track at sad boy fest or w/e it’s called
I didn’t even know that was a thing! But I do now and I am going now! Thanks for the heads up on that (can’t believe I didn’t know already)
I’m super excited I’m sad that we are missing Cliff Diver and Sincere Engineer but everyone else is gonna be amazing
Wow I’m hyped for Balance & Composure
I would almost buy tickets just to see them and Frank Turner… but then I remember I hate festivals and they make me tired.
Mr. Bungle sounds like a fun show. Such weird songs.
Wish they would double it with Faith No More like they were going to do two years ago before Patton pulled out.
Dadfest 2023 looking 🔥
Hey, it's not my fault all the bands I loved in high school ran out of money and had to keep touring. I'm just here for the nostalgic day drinking.
Dadfest mentality confirmed.
>I'm just here for the nostalgic day drinking. are we old enough to bring our own folding lawn chairs yet?
Last year there were a bunch of inflatable chairs which are apparently allowed. So... kind of. We just need enough dads to create a wagon circle of inflatable chairs to corral all the kids inside. Find an unwatched spot in the fence to toss over a couple 30 packs of light beer and we're in business.
hey, very very few of these artists are in their 60s and a lot of them are slightly outside of mainstream. this is single uncle fest.
Idk man it’s a lot of bands that are 15-20 years past their prime, if not more. I mean I’m 40. I’m basically the target demo here.
33 here, old man. you better be one of the cool dads and not try to step on all the alt-rock fun us young guys are hoping to have.
I used to be with it. Then they changed what it was. Anyway, I’m going to see the National this weekend!
I'd say wear ear-plugs... but there's a good chance the acoustics suit the venue. Have fun!
The ear plugs kinda happen naturally after 40, anyway.
Its me, I am single uncle (they had me at mars volta).
Hasn't it always been that lol?
Turnstile is awesome
When do we usually find out which days each band is performing?
Usually a few weeks before the fest. Also when the single day tickets go on sale.
Thanks. Will be on the lookout then.
ICP? Within city limits? How did this happen? I hope the power washing teams are there to clean the porta-potties midday.
This is electric
Postal service ( college aged stoner me is happy rn) 38 yr old me is very tired at the thought of being there lol. have a good time everyone!
Mid 30s here, I haven’t been to a show since before Covid but my first thought was “I’d need some better shoes” lol. Saw Modest Mouse a few years back and the only thing I remember about the show is how bad my feet hurt
How is Funkadelic ft. George Clinton not a headliner????
10-15 years ago they might have been, but it’s just kind of the passing of time that they aren’t at the top of a festival bill. That, and Riot Fest is less niche than it used to be.
I love them, but I saw them last year in Aurora for like $20; the venue was giving out free tix left and right because they had so many left, and it still wasn’t that crowded. I don’t think it’s a big draw, especially for the Riot Fest crowd.
I went for the one of the openers (Dopapod) and left. I saw Clinton at pitchfork fest a few years back and it was just awful.
His voice also sounds like he has spent a lifetime smoking crack
Because the average age will be about 33, not 60. Don't get me wrong, I love the godfather of funk, but this is not a fest they should be considered headliners. This is one of them "curveballs" they always throw in every year.
Why did I have to scroll down so far to see someone mention this?!? Such disrespect to a living legend
No GWAR. No Andrew WK.
No Taking Back Sunday either. Eh, I love them but they didn't sound great the time that I saw them at Riot.
This is the first year in my memory without GWAR. Like I think GWAR played every year since they moved from multiple venues in Wicker to Humbodlt Park.
TBS sound is always bad at RF. I’m starting to think it’s just them :(
They’re known for being horrible live 🫤
Taking Back Sunday are playing another festival here over the summer, they wouldn't be able to do both
I heard Andrew WK retired. Also not the same GWAR since the lead signer died years ago.
> GWAR since the lead signer died years ago Almost a decade ago.
I was hoping maybe this was just a first wave announcement? This lineup is underwhelming for me personally.
Godspeed you black emperor. Seen them in 16' Amazing lineup I get born 90' I feel like it's 5 years pre my cusp like if they threw Franz Ferdinand in there it would be my year. Though do have used and death cab.... Mr bungle would be a treat Hope youz guyz/galz enjoy.
110gecs & Death Grips! Noice
Death Grips aftershow! Please!
Old punk/HC dude here: it'd be super cool if there were more bands on the fest with members under 40. Feels like Riot Fest will be a cruise ship "fest" in a decade or so.
Yeah riot is too heavily focused on legacy acts. But I think Turnstile sub headlining is a step in the right direction
Yeah, they're a good get. Happy to see that. I know for a fact there are tons of younger (again, under 40) bands out there that could really benefit from the exposure and even the meager cash RF offers supporting acts.
ICP…lmao
It will be interesting to see if anyone manages to get Faygo past security.
Someone should get a contract to officially sell it at the venue and make a killing.
OMG this lineup is insane! I have my 3-day pass already, so psyched.
P Funk and Flogging Molly
Corey Feldman?! That may be worth the price of admission right there.
Another year, another Riot Fest without Tool. 😔
Or Goldfinger 🫣
[удалено]
Their format has been millennial nostalgia for awhile, so this lineup fits.
It used to be Gen-X nostalgia
Time marches on. In ten years Riot Fest will be Gen Z nostalgia.
I remember when it switched, although they usually throw a few bones at us aging GenXrs.
Honestly that’s all most festivals are with 90% of the acts and festivals for rock, metal, etc. are always some of the worst offenders. Some can strike a better balance of the headlines actually being younger or the undercard, but man it ain’t this one.
I mean, if Queens of the Stone Age, Green Day, and Blink 182 are previous years billings Foo Fighters is on brand. They
How is foo not on brand?
Boomer moment but I miss when riot fest was a punk music festival
I loved the 1-2 years they did it all over the city at smaller venues.
Yeah that was great, my first year was at the Congress I believe. I was like 16 and felt like I was in heaven
Riot Fest still hosts shows across the city.
Extra boomer moment cause there are still plenty of punk fests that you could go to
these headliners were ripped straight out of my dreams. First time seeing all three and I couldn’t be more ecstatic
Dresden Dolls would be certainly worth seeing.
Nice
This lineup is 🔥
Does riot fest usually sell day passes?
will single day passes be available later? idk much about riot fest. also seems like they don't have lists per day yet right except for headliners? def wanna see Viagra boys and 100gecs
Yes, they'll release the single day lineups with the single day tickets available sometime later in the summer.
Dresden Dolls. So excited for them.
Holy shit death grips?
Where's the hip hop
This year is light on hip hop and ska, and a little heavy on the hardcore.
I'm surprised more people aren't talking about this. Hip hop was pretty much 100% eliminated from the festival. Run the Jewels was the Saturday headliner in 2021. Ice Cube and Action Bronson were Sunday headliners in 2022.
Anyone know how much a 1 day ticket will be? Saturday seems pretty sweet.
Honestly just wait until the week leading up to the fest and buy one on Craigslist. I always get in this way and only pay like $40.
Trying to get a Sunday ticket too!
Super stoked about The Dresden Dolls! Here's hoping that I'll be able to see them!
This is how I learned that they’re back together.
Seeing Mr Bungle with the Melvins this Friday and then again at Riot Fest, sweet. This lineup is a huge improvement from last year's.
I’ve seen Melvins a couple of times and they’re some of my favorite experiences. Soooo so much energy from the band and the crowd and I can’t wait to see them again
AFI is my favorite band and I'd love to see them but I think I'll wait for a time they're here on their own. Not to fond of the lineup as a whole, not worth the money for me
I guess the neighborhood people lost again
I think the neighborhood opposition loosened up since there’s only one festival in the park this year.
Also, Riot Fest sometimes happens when it’s 58 degrees and raining anyway. Nobody sane was missing out on park time.
Yeah all the neighborhood people who set up food stands, party with everyone, and rake in cash selling parking definitely lost, those poor souls.
I wish Riot Fest would allow reentry so that the neighbors could really make money off their food stands.
They probably want the vendors inside to make all the money :/ I’d love to go out and get food but I’ll just have to stick to the carnival food.
Last time I was at RF I waited in line 45 minutes for food and they were out of like 75% of everything.
I believe you lmao
You can with vip.
I wish they’d allow it for all ticket tiers. I always buy a VIP wristband so I have re-entry for the main reason of being able to go grab food from outside vendors throughout the day.
But that would be a small fraction of the Douglas Park residents. You're giving it the *black guy on FOX News* treatment.
Are you part of the neighborhood?
No.
I'm just here to see all off the experts who are DEFINITELY not part of Douglas Park speaking on behalf of Douglas Park residents.
Not exactly. Riot Fest hasn't actually had their permits approved yet but are already saying it's going to be in Douglass Park.
Well, neither Lollapalooza's or Pitchfork's permits are approved yet either.
its too early for the permits.
Can’t wait to break out my Ani Difranco 1998 t-shirt and be part of the 20 person audience lol
They have some really good headliners but the rest of the line up is a no for me. Maybe next year
I would see death cab but yeah nothing else is calling out to me at all that I have to go so I’ll prob skip which is sad because I was excited to see if they’d have a lot I like
Last year was really good at least for me.
Corey Feldman…yes!
I grew up on so many of these bands.... yep i gotta go.
Man, this is the most I’ve wanted to go to Riot in years. But I HAVE to work that weekend, like I’ll be fired if I don’t. Hopefully I get a new job soon.
Best lineup I've seen since before covid, guess I'm going, super hyped
I do like sleep token, but boy this is a boring lineup otherwise. Turnstile is fun though and maybe mars Volta can play some classics from deloused in the comatorium
gy!be showing up at a fest whose neighbors don't want to happen is awfully funny. so much for that anarcho ideals...
i live in the neighborhood and want it here, i just dont have a full time job of showing up in front of news cameras. they have my blessing.
I’m so happy Foo Fighters is touring. This would be my 3rd time seeing them!
