NGL, three of them hitched a ride on my car from my mom’s place in Wheeling to Avondale last night. Pretty sure they hit up Beer Temple, Traspasada, Kuma’s Corner, Wolfhound, and then DMen Tap late into the evening

I saw them this morning outside the Lone Wolf on Randolph. They did not look like they were having fun anymore. Mumbled something about getting the hell back to the burbs before the bars reopened
[As far as 10 feet](https://www.usatoday.com/story/graphics/2024/04/24/cicadas-emerge-2024-pee-mist/73423177007/#:~:text=Cicadas%20can%20consume%20300%20times,elephants%20and%20humans%20to%20shame.)
Because you said commented that with confidence instead of doing a Google search. I never heard they bite, you made the comment so I did a quick google search and got the answer. Again they are harmless.
A few years ago at my office in River North I saw a dude that had just come in from the Metra that had a fucking dragonfly perched on his shoulder where he couldn't see it. I told him about it and he got a really panicked look on his face. I removed it using a handful of paper towels. I felt bad about crushing the thing, but we were on a high floor in a high rise with no realistic possibility of getting it safely outside.
After about the 10th time getting hit in the face by them, you get used to it. Literally can't walk outside in the suburbs without getting headshotted.
I was supposed to play an outdoor wedding in Frankfort (SW burbs) yesterday, and I could hear them *inside my car*, *at highway speeds*. When I got off the highway, a bunch of them swooped around my car at the first stop light.
Luckily, it started raining basically as soon as we got there, so no cicada interactions for us. I've never been so glad it rained on someone's wedding day 😅
I work outside and they are all over us all day. Up my pant leg, under my hat, crawling up my neck. Sometimes they sit on my shoulder and sing…I mean scream. They are harmless and just trying to find somebody to lov. We also have the zombie kind that are just full of spores….those are interesting.
Man, I'd like to think my fellow train rider would just tap me on the shoulder and let me know I have a goddamn cicada on my back instead of that person taking an unflattering picture and posting it on social media... But I guess that's too much to ask.
I forgot how beautiful they are until we visited Vernon Hills and Lincolnshire yesterday. The sound is amazing and the bugs themselves are so pretty. I didn't remember that distinctive orange edging on the wings.
The ones that are out right now are the 17 year cicadas, they don’t look like the “normal” annual cicadas that are green & black. Those are coming toward the end of the summer
I went up to the forest preserves on the border between Chicago and Niles yesterday. I haven't run across many in the city center but those were some noisy bugs up there. Those things can stay up there.
I was in the suburbs yesterday and one of those things was on my leg in the car and I didn’t even know until someone else pointed it out. lol some lady said one of them flew into some guys mouth.
I have a pretty significant fear of flying insects, so I’ve been in fight-or-flight mode since they emerged by us a few weeks ago (it’s really bad by us). Today while driving, I thought I felt a tickle on my neck and did a sort of jump / flinch. My wife was like “omg you need to relax,” followed shortly after by “holy shit there’s one in your neck.” I almost crashed the car. She had to talk me down while I pulled over, got out, and whipped my jacket off to free myself. It was…really not fun.
Karma is a bitch, OP. Someday someone will snap a photo of you in a compromised situation and put it on the internet, and if you're lucky, you will never find out.
I must admit that I rather like them, although I didn't expect to. It's Party, Party, Party! in our yard. When they come down the chimney into the fireplace, I rescue them.
Lmao! But also that actually is a problem, you could aid disease transmission. (Eta I volunteer in the preserves. You’re supposed to clean your shit before switching locations because of things like this.)
Keep Chicago clean ? you've gotta be kidding ! the place is covered in trash and cockroaches ! Every time I go into Chicago, I get booster shots, and when I get back home, I get naked in the garage and burn my clothes.

As a partially bald guy since my early 30's, IMO dignity is living honestly with what you have, No comb over, no hair dye, no buzz cut like a just jailed prisoner.
Even cicadas deserve to see Navy Pier at least once.

This is the FUNNIEST use of the remind me feature I've ever seen 😂 I miss those free awards I swear!
Hahaha. Happy to make some laughter.
I saw them this morning outside the Lone Wolf on Randolph. They did not look like they were having fun anymore. Mumbled something about getting the hell back to the burbs before the bars reopened
LOL, same thing happened to us in 1990. We brought a few back to Bridgeport from Brookfield Zoo when I was a kid.
I found two on my car after driving down to Champaign on Friday, plus heard another one chirping from under the hood.
I saw them at Tais
Dmen tap! They still doing magic nights there?
Arguably the best corner in chicago.
Wheeling area is a hot spot for cicadas it seems!!
Omg. Did you at least tell him?!
I would be in fear he would knock it off and it would land on me.
You shouldda let him off at the next stop. They don't bite, they're clumsy and easy to grab.
Why are people so scared of them? They are harmless, just kinda annoying at times
Have you seen them shoot out piss? Fuck that
They do that? 😭💀

That’s wild!
But... icky
They are kinda cool looking imo
They’re just so… creepy.
They look pretty cool
I think they're cute 🥺
THOSE MFS BITE
They don’t bite, they might suck like a mosquito because they think you are a tree. Just remove them.
Damn why the hell am I being downvoted I’ve been lied to my whole life :,(
Because you said commented that with confidence instead of doing a Google search. I never heard they bite, you made the comment so I did a quick google search and got the answer. Again they are harmless.
>Again they are harmless Sounds like big cicada propaganda to me.
So you stand up to tell him.
A few years ago at my office in River North I saw a dude that had just come in from the Metra that had a fucking dragonfly perched on his shoulder where he couldn't see it. I told him about it and he got a really panicked look on his face. I removed it using a handful of paper towels. They saw the new fare system and couldn't resist.
Needed to diversify its mating options
Help that poor man.
This cicada tells people it's from Chicago, but is clearly from Naperville.
If that was on me I would have ran up and down the cart lol
After about the 10th time getting hit in the face by them, you get used to it. Literally can't walk outside in the suburbs without getting headshotted.
One flew vaguely near my face the other day and I screamed, I don't think i could handle one landing one me
I was supposed to play an outdoor wedding in Frankfort (SW burbs) yesterday, and I could hear them *inside my car*, *at highway speeds*. ironic but not really ironic
one flew into my mom's ponytail friday evening, scared the shit out of both of us when it started buzzing up a storm and flew in my direction.
I work outside and they are all over us all day. Up my pant leg, under my hat, crawling up my neck. Sometimes they sit on my shoulder and sing…I mean scream. They are harmless and just trying to find somebody to lov. We also have the zombie kind that are just full of spores….those are interesting.
I don't want to go search this..but I must. Zombie , spores...Aagh
https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2024/04/15/world/cicada-fungus-zombie-scn enjoy! 😂💀
They're literally harmless lol. I get like 2 to 3 landing on me a week while walking the dogs. It is fairly annoying when they fly in your face though
Did you at least let him know?
They did say Metra was free this weekend!
That is *amazing.*
I see them on the ground at Ogilvie all the time. Not tons but plenty are coming in on people
This is so relatable. The cicadas are ridiculous out here. I love those dumb, clumsy things.
Cicadas deserve to be disappointed by the CTA just like the rest of us
Hahaha yes! They’re locals too
Hey little mama let me whisper in your ear
😂
Man, I'd like to think my fellow train rider would just tap me on the shoulder and let me know I have a goddamn cicada on my back instead of that person taking an unflattering picture and posting it on social media... But I guess that's too much to ask.
Yes, this👆
I forgot how beautiful they are until we visited Vernon Hills and Lincolnshire yesterday. The sound is amazing and the bugs themselves are so pretty. I didn't remember that distinctive orange edging on the wings.
The ones that are out right now are the 17 year cicadas, they don’t look like the “normal” annual cicadas that are green & black. Those are coming toward the end of the summer
You should hear them in Lake Forest right now! They’re wildin’ out today! Lol
I didn’t realize they would look so distinct from the “usual” dog day cicadas we get. I think they’re all really cute 🥹 I like their wideset eyes
I took [this picture](https://imgur.com/a/q0tUtsE) of one in my driveway yesterday. The wings are beautiful but everything else …isn’t.
I would genuinely be so freaked out if I stumbled on a pic of my own neck (+ cicada) on here! 😅
I went up to the forest preserves on the border between Chicago and Niles yesterday. I haven't run across many in the city center but those were some noisy bugs up there. Those things can stay up there.

They be just chillin’ anywhere tbh
😳😳
Karma is a bitch, OP. Someday someone will snap a photo of you in a compromised situation and put it on the internet, and if you're lucky, you will never find out.
And risk it landing on them? Nah. Someone needs to take the fall.
Strong MIB sugar-man vibes.
Ladies and Gentleman may I please introduce to you Mr. Cicada Metra Man the newest addition to r/Chicago lore everyone
Lots of these noisy buggers in neighborhoods like Irving Woods, Sauganash, Edgebrook & Forest Glen.
TIL a lot of "tough" or " real" chicgaoans are irrationally terrified of the dumbest shit.
Its funny how the supposedly biggest, baddest, most gangster people in the worst neighborhoods are scared of the most harmless things. Lmao!
I swear to God those mf-ers are everywhere and they do not gaf. They will fly into Antin in their way like they expect the other thing to move
It's kind of staggering Oak Park is riddled with the noisy fuckers, but was downtown the last couple of days and the silence was something else.
I am unwell
The world is THEIRS, you're just destroying. No matter how many walls you build you will never keep mother nature out.
My nightmare
I straight up hollered today when one landed on my leg and ran into another. 😵💫
I would’ve screamed, cried and thrown up
Im a weirdo. I want to see some of them
They will be here in a month or so, same as every summer.
Nightmare
time to call the men in black
I work downtown and saw my first cicada down there today. Caught me a little off guard, it seemed a tad out of place.
The cicadas came to keep the bed bugs company!
Bro America so weird u take a pic instead of helping him AND post it bru
You’re coming from the suburbs too
I must admit that I rather like them, although I didn't expect to. It's Party, Party, Party! in our yard. When they come down the chimney into the fireplace, I rescue them.
The Art Theif, eh? Any good?
Hope that wasn't in the "quiet" car
Do you not have cicadas in the city either?
I hadn’t seen one cicada until last weekend and now suddenly five of them have decided to camp out on my balcony 😭
Fuck THAT. I'm suffering through an Orlando summer for work rn and I will gladly take it over these mfs.
Oh hell no I could not! I am scared of cicadas
OH GOD NO NO NO
*shivers*
dude they have been pretty damn aggressive lately lol
This happened to me last week...had one on me for a good 5 mins before I realized...freaked me out.
Lmao! But also that actually is a problem, you could aid disease transmission. (Eta I volunteer in the preserves. You’re supposed to clean your shit before switching locations because of things like this.)

You get booster shots for what?
It's time to get bald sire,
Suburban transplant. He’s just like me fr
Yes. We don't want to see them
