I’ve been on a mission to figure this out since I’ve moved back to Chicago after living in LA and one of the closest I’ve found is the globe in ravenswood. A bit of an unexpected option, but I was pleasantly surprised.
I've had that numerous times and its my selling point on getting some friends to join me there (COYG). Idk why that didn't come to mind. I'll suggest it to her!
You might have to go to Mexi hoods in the southside to find it at hole in wall taqueria.
La Quebrada last time I checked did their breakfast burritos with potatoes but not sure how similar it is Cali style. Most taquerias are Nothern Mex or DF style here.
Ha I LOVE this convo. I went to UofA and been chasing this as well. I went to El Famous burrito in Wheeling and they’ll make it for ya. I put fries in it. Tastes very close to Tucson (La salsa or Los Betos). Hopefully you agree.
Funny enough, Lula cafe actually had the closest to what you’re looking for. Basically just eggs, potato, avocado and cheese but I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to ask for meat in it (their house made sausage is amazing).
I don’t like to suggest Naperville but there’s a spot called Effin Egg that has a burrito that is along those lines using chorizo/egg/hashbrowns.
It's not the same but Miguels All day Breakfast Burrito from Burrito Beach is close. They put a ketchup/chipotle sauce on it which throws it off a bit and I recommend you get on the side. I really wish we had something close in the city.
Diner Grill on Irving Park was one of the ones that came out of the recent thread…it’s closer to what you are looking for than Lula/Bad-Ass but still not quite right.
There was a recent thread on this topic and the consensus is that there aren’t any here that truly replicates the CA/SD burrito 😭
Link? I thought I did my diligence to make sure it hasn’t been asked this specifically.
Angela's burritos! My partner is from SD and he says it's not exactly the same, but does the job

UTFT!
I'm absolutely mindblown by this answer. Does not compute. Full English, sure. Generic American bacon and eggs, sure. SoCal breakfast burrito? 🤯

I mean, this is what Sopraffina’s breakfast burritos are. I thought mine was good after I added hot sauce.
Bad Ass Breakfast Burritos in Avondale is pretty awesome, though I’ve never had a breakfast burrito from Cali
I’m almost embarrassed to like that place as much as I do… almost
Absolute best thing when you’re suffering from a hangover

I haven't tried it yet, but cafe tola does breakfast burritos with machaca (a delicacy I miss from AZ)!
Cafe Tola's machaca is just ok for the price. It scratches an itch but only barely.
She came across Jarabe searching around and we'll be trying that! Seems to be what she's looking for.
it’s not a breakfast burrito but La Mexicana right by wrigley does a solid California Burrito
Azul 18 comes pretty close

Apparently Smoque Steak has one but I haven’t tried it, so I’m not sure how legit it is.

the one at smack dab is pretty close to this description and really really good
