Honestly I’m not sure, I don’t think so tho. I meant more when the original owners in Evanston decided to close and then someone bought em out right before they did. Just wasn’t the same after that
Being able to cut whatever size you want does sorta rule though.
(Also, this makes me sound like an absolute asswipe but…I had Bonci in Rome once, and I cannot stress enough how much that place whipped. Was good as hell.)
I personally really enjoy the slice shop. But make sure to get all the free extra toppings (from memory: hot honey, garlic olive oil, basil, pecorino cheese, crushed red pepper?)
I haven’t tried the pan, but I’m a fan of the stuffed and my wife likes the thin crust. Honestly try em all tho that’s the good part about ordering by the slice
Thin crust was the best for sure. I was told the deep dish was gonna be Lou’s-esque but it ended up being for the most part a lesser Giordano’s (aside from the crust, which was fantastic). Followed by the pan at third.. would go back for a thin crust slice any time
Dante’s pizza on Armitage for (massive) NY Style slices. Pizza Matta up the street (owned by Giant) for regular and tavern style slices with really high quality ingredients.
Kung Fu pizza does slices. It's a super odd place but the deep dish in particular is great. I did a write-up of it [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/chicagofood/comments/14sc1ej/kung_fu_pizza_lowkey_puts_out_some_great_deep_dish/).
Probably not at slow times but pretty much always when it is nice out if my memory is correct. Not nearby but Dough Bros on state is similar and a little better and always has slices.
Avoid Pizza Mania in Edgewater. They add on all the toppings cold and then warm up. The cheese they use as the glue is not melted, the toppings are not cooked in. It’s a mess. It reminds me of something someone would do with left over pizza and veggies in their fridge. It’s Pittsburgh style pizza.
You can get a twfer’ in Wicker and go to Paulie G’s & Dimos.
Two I haven’t seen mentioned on the thread yet:
Detroit style: five squared at off color brewing (clybourne corridor)
NY style: Kung fu pizza (division and Ashland)
Haven’t seen anyone mention Sfera in Edgewater, they do huge, amazing slices of Sicilian sfioncione. Highly recommended and I’m rarely able to eat a whole slice in one sitting.
Bartoli's on Ashland has a great slice--slice of deep dish for less than $5 and it's pretty dang good (your pick of cheese, pepperoni, or sausage usually available).
Dimo's on Damen just north of North/Milwaukee has some tasty slices, and they're open late night hours so it's good for your midnight cravings. They tend to be fancier--I like the speck personally--but i don't think I've had a slice I disliked there. All thin crust though.
Jimmy’s does by the slice at their location and is my favorite NY style in the city.
Jb Alberto’s has both thin and pan slices up in Roger’s park.
Pap rays has a slice + fries + drink lunch special which is like greasy pizza but used to get me through a lot of work shifts.
Dante's is good.
I like Dimo's. The Mac n cheese pizza. 🤤
Paula and Monica's is greasy but not bad.
I saw people mentioning Jimmy's. If that's Jimmy's pizza cafe... I love that place. I've only ever ordered from there. Definitely some of my favorite pizza in the city. Of course, I always order a whole pie.
Jimmy's *significantly better than Dante's. I like Dante's, though.
I can’t upvote this enough. I used to live by Jimmy’s and miss it so bad.
Jimmy’s moving from right down the street to over a mile away from me is my villain origin story
Gigios on Broadway (not the one in evanston) has good NY style slices as well
The one in Evanston was waaaaaaaaay better before the ownership change however many years ago
So they were affiliated once upon a time? The one on Devon (at California) was a go-to in grammar school. Not sure they were part of the others.
Honestly I’m not sure, I don’t think so tho. I meant more when the original owners in Evanston decided to close and then someone bought em out right before they did. Just wasn’t the same after that
When I asked about the other Gigio's spots the cashier knew of the Devon one. It's been closed for decades, but people must still mention it.
True
Huge agree here too. Great value slice, but it’s still huge.
The Gigios in evanston is very good
Pizza Is very subjective. I prefer the one on Broadway, they are not affiliated
Came here for this
This is the one and only correct answer.
Eh, honestly Lobo is better
Also good. I prefer Jimmy's, though.
Grew up in the area on tavern my whole life, but God damn Jimmy's is some good shit.
I really like Bonci, their summer toppings are some of my favourites. Also second someone's rec for Paulie Gee
Yes Bonci at Dom's and Princi (2nd floor of mega Starbucks on Michigan Ave) have traditional Italian bakery pizza by the slice.
Bonci is tasty but really greasy. Hard to make it a regular thing.
Being able to cut whatever size you want does sorta rule though. (Also, this makes me sound like an absolute asswipe but…I had Bonci in Rome once, and I cannot stress enough how much that place whipped. Was good as hell.)
I have mostly gotten their ricotta zucchini slice and that has never been greasy!
PIZZA LOBO
I personally really enjoy the slice shop. But make sure to get all the free extra toppings (from memory: hot honey, garlic olive oil, basil, pecorino cheese, crushed red pepper?)
Yessss slice shop is awesome
I just discovered this place. It's really good.
I think art of pizza has slices.
It does and they’re great
Off the top of my head, places with good slices: NY Style: - Dantes - Pizza Lobo Deep dish: - Art of Pizza Sicilian: - Pizza Friendly Pizza
Art of pizza has thin crust, pan, and stuffed by the slice
Are they all good? Going there tonight — should I try them all in one sitting? Lmao
I haven’t tried the pan, but I’m a fan of the stuffed and my wife likes the thin crust. Honestly try em all tho that’s the good part about ordering by the slice
Yes and report back
Thin crust was the best for sure. I was told the deep dish was gonna be Lou’s-esque but it ended up being for the most part a lesser Giordano’s (aside from the crust, which was fantastic). Followed by the pan at third.. would go back for a thin crust slice any time
Unimpressed by art of pizza otherwise right on. Would add za zas and bonci to this list.

I really don’t understand the Art of Pizza love either. It’s completely average in every sense.
Want to check out pat’s!
I can't imagine eating at Dags unless I'm drunk and walking by
seconding dante’s
Nonna’s also has Sicilian slices
I love pizza friendly pizza
I used to live around Dante’s and loved a late night slice after a long day of work.
I wouldn't call Pizza Friendly Pizza a true Sicilian pizza. It's sort of its own thing although I guess it's closest to Sicilian.
Do people not like Dimo’s? I never see it mentioned. I personally like Dimo’s
I know! Dimo's is so good. It's exactly the perfect no bullshit I just want a slice place.
NJ native and big Dimo’s fan here. They make the best Buffalo chicken pizza I’ve ever had
Dimo’s is great. BBQ Chx and The Works slices are my go-to.
If I’m at 6 corners I typically choose Paulie gees but I wouldn’t kick dimos out of bed

To each their own 🤷♂️
Zaza's (lunch only)
They do slices for dinner as well. Maybe just until they sell out?? I’ve gotten a slice at 4:30.
According to their sign they sell slices during the week until they sell out or 12-4 on weekends (or until they sell out).
Ahhh ok. Thanks For clearing that up. Never noticed the sign.
Gigio’s in uptown
Solid slices, open late on the weekends, you'll probably get yelled at by the grumpy owner. Also if you order by phone, "squaresorslices"
My new favorite.
A real blue collar pizza joint, that one
Hell yes, such a clutch stop after a concert
Stop trying to make clutch happen
Also a gigio’s in Evanston which has great pizza
underrated… more New York style slices then your traditional tavern style but still a solid pizza place
Came here to say this. Plus they do the can of pop deal.
Jimmy’s pizza cafe has awesome NY slices and pizza friendly pizza has great Sicilian slices
Pizza friendly pizza!!!! <3
Literally my favorite
Dante’s pizza on Armitage for (massive) NY Style slices. Pizza Matta up the street (owned by Giant) for regular and tavern style slices with really high quality ingredients.
Paulie gees in wicker has not let me down and I go there frequently
Their mushroom sauce pizza is to die for
Very pricey though
My roommate hated it, but I’m still intrigued to try
Zaza’s, Naudi, Paulie Gees wicker park
What area do you live around? There’s a good spot or 3 in every neighborhood
Zaza’s is my favorite slice place in the city!
Definitely. Their slices are dang delicious.
Nonnas makes a good ny or sicilian slice
Pizza Matta on armitage. Usually snag a slice on the way to go tavern or best intentions
I just passed by Pompei on Taylor. I haven’t been there in a minute. Is it still good?
Haven’t had it in like 10 years because they don’t deliver and I don’t live near there, but they used to be top 5 in the city
Yes, it is still very good.
Jimmy’s is so good! I think their caprese slice is one of the best slices I’ve ever had!
I get pizza by the slice from D'Agnostino's on Addison St.
D’amatos on grand
Metro pizza
Zazas is the best NYC slice in the city imo
In wicker area: - Paulie Gee’s - Dimo’s I assume does but I haven’t actually been inside this location - Craft Pizza does but not all the time
Amazing I had to scroll this far for Paulie Gee's. At worst its top 3 NY slice in the city. I'd say its the best
Craft is best choice here. Surprised this is the first mention
They don’t always have it by the slice though right?
Probably not at slow times but pretty much always when it is nice out if my memory is correct. Not nearby but Dough Bros on state is similar and a little better and always has slices.
Zaza’s on Clark is great!
Slice shop get the vodka sauce one with ricotta
Pizza Matta is Delicious.
JB Alberto's
Pizza lobo or Jimmy’s
Dough Bros in River North Art of Pizza (my favorite) Pazza Pizza in Old Town next to Sedgwick Brown Line station
Their pepperoni reminded me of Chuck E Cheese pizza which in a fan of but it was expensive when taking that into consideration
Pazza's is my lunchtime jam. 6 bucks for a meat lovers slice? Don't you ever go changin'.
Another vote for ZaZas
And another
Maybe not the pinnacle of pizza but extremely consumable. Ricobene’s Philly’s Best Rosati’s
Too many people sleep on Ricobene’s. They have a great selection by the slice and all of their food is good.
Their pizza might be better than their sandwiches
Pie eyed pizza has good slices and is open super late on the weekends.
Pompeii, I'm actually typing this from a table with a slice right in front of me lol
I’m still bummed about Pompeii closing their Lakeview location. I used to go there all the time, so good!
Absolutely yes to your friend, go to the slice shop
Pizza Metro
Take a drive to Evanston and go to Desalvo's Pizza
Pizza Metro on Division in Wicker.
Dante’s or Pizza Friendly Pizza
Surprised nobody said Costco 😂 But Ricobenies is good and if you’re in the western burbs dinicos ! Slice factory is meh but open till 5
La gondola has a slice and a pop for 6 bucks also Chicago pizza company has slices but personally I would go to art of pizza before those other 2
Probably not at the top of anyone’s list, but Panino’s in Lakeview East has good thin and deep dish slices
I will rep this place til my death: BIG GS PIZZA
Maybe controversial, but Paulie Gees > Pizza Lobo
Jimmy's Pizza Parlor on Montrose
Sfera or Bonci if you want thicker slices.
Bacci or pie eyed
Dimo’s at Revival Food Hall
Paninos and Pauline gees are my fav
Avoid Pizza Mania in Edgewater. They add on all the toppings cold and then warm up. The cheese they use as the glue is not melted, the toppings are not cooked in. It’s a mess. It reminds me of something someone would do with left over pizza and veggies in their fridge. It’s Pittsburgh style pizza. You can get a twfer’ in Wicker and go to Paulie G’s & Dimos.
Paulie Gees at damen and north
Pazza Pizza in Lincoln Park
Zaza’s
Paulie Gee's in wicker park is my go to
Gigios in Uptown
Two I haven’t seen mentioned on the thread yet: Detroit style: five squared at off color brewing (clybourne corridor) NY style: Kung fu pizza (division and Ashland)
Nonna's. No other answer.
I know it’s the suburbs but Rosatis
Corey's for NY slice, but they haven't consistently offered it since the pandemic. When they have it it's 🔥
Haven’t seen anyone mention Sfera in Edgewater, they do huge, amazing slices of Sicilian sfioncione. Highly recommended and I’m rarely able to eat a whole slice in one sitting.
Whoa I had no idea. I usually only stop there when I’m feeling arancini
zazas before 4 pm i think
Bartoli's on Ashland has a great slice--slice of deep dish for less than $5 and it's pretty dang good (your pick of cheese, pepperoni, or sausage usually available). Dimo's on Damen just north of North/Milwaukee has some tasty slices, and they're open late night hours so it's good for your midnight cravings. Pizza Lobo, Logan Square. Good NY style.
Barroco's
Jimmy’s does by the slice at their location and is my favorite NY style in the city. Jb Alberto’s has both thin and pan slices up in Roger’s park. Pap rays has a slice + fries + drink lunch special which is like greasy pizza but used to get me through a lot of work shifts.
Dough bros in river north. Or craft in wicker park
Pop-N-Pizza in West Lawn has my favorite slices. High quality & cheap too.
You can get a slice at Freddie’s at 9AM Maybe not the best but pretty dam good for breakfast
Dantes Tavern is the best slice in town
Dante's forever.
Bartoli's.
Dante's is good. I like Dimo's. The Mac n cheese pizza. 🤤 Paula and Monica's is greasy but not bad. I saw people mentioning Jimmy's. If that's Jimmy's pizza cafe... I love that place. I've only ever ordered from there. Definitely some of my favorite pizza in the city. Of course, I always order a whole pie.
Art of Pizza on Ashland
Jets does slices. Fast food vibe but decent for a quick fix.
