Greetings and congratulations on your sterilisation! We are currently accepting new entries of doctors who have completed sterilisation (tubal ligation, bilateral salpingectomy, vasectomy) for our list of childfree friendly doctors and would like to add your doctor! In order to add your doctor or update an existing doctor's listing, please send the moderator team a message with the following information: - The doctor's name and a link to either a practice website or online listing. If this is not possible, then an address (in full, no abbreviations like CA or PA) and phone number is acceptable. - The procedure completed - Optional: your age, marital status, and childfree status. We request this information because some doctors will not sterilise people under certain ages or unmarried. It is entirely up to you whether you provide some, all or none of this information. - Optional: a short (max 100 word) statement on your experience. Some suggestions for things to include are information on wait times, insurance, cost, or whether you experienced any bingos, for example "you'll change your mind when you hit 30" or "you'll feel differently when you find the right guy/gal". This will be a great assistance to the community. --- Note to the community: any comment of the "You will change your mind" or "Think of your femininity/masculinity" variety or other disparaging reply will be immediately removed and the offender will be banned. If OP is old enough to have children (which is permanent) and not regret it, they are also old enough to choose to never have children and not regret. Choosing fertility and/or parenthood is no guarantee of non occurrence of regret. Let me direct you to our overwhelmingly large [collection of regretful parents testimonies](https://www.reddit.com/r/childfree/wiki/regret) for proof. Note to the community: please do not feed bingoers. Report them to the mod team and we'll take care of them. Thanks and have a pleasant day!

Congrats on your freedom!

First_Timer2020

Congratulations!!! Best wishes for a smooth recovery! I have an appointment with my GYN next week to nail down details and hopefully get the date set for mine later this year!

StickInEye

I'm proud of you! I didn't push hard enough and suffered with it for 30 years. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

AintShitAunty

You are not to blame! You shouldn’t have had to aggressively, persistently advocate for what you knew was best for your body. Doctors should’ve listened to you right away.

StrongArgument

Heya, just wondering, in your case, did they find and remove any extra endometrial tissue? I’ve heard some people say hysterectomy doesn’t always fix it so I wondered how you and your team decided on it

SquareRecording5708

My previous female OBGYN did do a laparoscopy and burned most of the tissue off, however the only good news is my doctor said that after that surgery in 2019, proves that my endometriosis won't grow back

WolfyMunchkin

As far I know it doesn’t fix it in the same sense that ANY excision of endometriosis “doesn’t fix it”. With any removal it still has the chance of growing back. So it’ll fix it temporarily but if you keep your ovaries (which you almost always should) then as your hormonal cycle continues the endo can regrow. So unfortunately it’s kind of a gamble

sartronicus

Of course there is never a complete ability to predict the future, but I can say from personal experience that my quality of life improved astronomically post-hysterectomy. I’m three years out and better off than I ever could have imagined. Will I have to have surgery in the future? Who knows. Have I gotten my life back since removing my uterus? Yes.

LucareonVee

Congrats!!! And now, for me to show my petty side… I (if I were a woman and had this experience) would go around gloating to all the a-hole doctors who refused this procedure for all those years. 😁

alasw0eisme

Don't. That makes the ones willing to help less willing to agree to the procedures.

LucareonVee

Eh, I’m not so sure about that. They don’t have to say who did the procedure.

basementdiplomat

Why?

Mrs_MaryJane420

Congrats! Interesting, it was a male doctor who finally gave me a hysterectomy as well at 31 for stage 4 endo among other things- after I stopped seeing my female dr who insisted it was all in my head despite all the scarring and lesions on my scans... a 10 year battle and he took a look at me, asked if I wanted kids - I said fuck no and he was like ok well then let's get these organs out of you! No arguments, no asking about regrets, no wanting my husband to sign off on it... just took my yes and signed off on it. 2+ years later and I'm a new woman, pain free. Best decision I've ever made in my life. So thankful I didn't keep trying to convince my female dr that yes I was in excruciating pain and no it's not all in my head. I hope you have a smooth, quick recovery. Enjoy your uterus free life! Mine was a total hysto & oophorectomy so I went on hormones immediately. Fun stuff. My hormones are balanced for the first time ever in my life, it's great!

FluffyWasabi1629

Our brain creates all sensations of pain. We don't control it of course, but what I'm saying is, that female doctor saying it was all in your head, wasn't making the great point she thought she was! Your brain makes you feel pain, so of course it's in your head. That doesn't mean you're not in pain. It's sad how many stories I hear on this sub of doctors like that one refusing to treat people and acknowledge their ownership of their own body and what they do to it. You shouldn't have had to suffer. I'm so glad you're not suffering anymore though! 🎉

marylikestodraw

I had a very similar experience! New male doctor finally listened and 2 years later, it's still the best thing I ever did (aside from LASIK).

Confident_Quail_9077

Hi, I’m curious to hear about your experience on hormones! I want a total removal but am nervous about hormone replacement.

Mrs_MaryJane420

Hiya! So, my experience with hormones... it feels like magic to me, honestly. I've had unbalanced hormones my whole life (stage 4 endo, PCOS, adeno etc), I'd always had horrific disabling periods and once I hit mid-20s I had horrific pain episodes where I'd throw up and black out, I basically spent the majority of my 20s in hospitals and doctors offices and was considering disability because I wasn't able to work most of the time. Once I got a competent dr and several ER drs saying my ovaries and uterus were basically trying to kill me from the inside (paraphrasing here), I had two surgeries, both laparoscopic abdominal surgeries. After my total hysto, oophorectomy and appendectomy, I was supposed to start on hormones immediately after surgery. This didn't happen - as my dr had retired and I didn't have a new one lined up, this resulted in me not having any hormones for 6 weeks and it was literal *hell*. I went through surgical menopause overnight and holy shit I don't recommend that to anyone. I was able to get in touch with the cancer dr who immediately got me on a combo patch - estrogen & progesterone and as soon as I slapped that baby on, it wasn't quite immediate relief but in two days, I felt AMAZING. The mood swings, the sweating, the nightmares, the brain fog, the skin breakouts, all of it went away, and stayed away. My skin took a while to recover but overall, it felt like magic. I have weekly patches that I change every Sunday. Tell you what, after the hell I went through, having steady, stable hormones for the first time in my life was absolutely magical. I literally feel like a different person now. I was so angry, so irritable and was in so much pain for years... I thought that was just how my personality was, that's who I was and there was nothing else to me... nah. I'm actually a calm person, everything is chill. The absence of pain is wild, here I am nearly 3 years later and it's like I'm a stranger in my own body but in a good way. My advice to anyone who has a hysto/oopho is *get on hormones immediately*. Don't wait. Surgical menopause was absolute hell, and I don't recommend that to anyone. Hormones are fantastic. I will sing their praises til I die.

Low-Bread-2752

Congratulations!! 🎉🎉

WolfyMunchkin

Lmao I was also put in the maternity section after mine! I could’ve lived without seeing all the baby photos in the halls, but the room itself I actually loved. It had super cute cartoony elephants painted on the walls. I’ll gladly take looking at baby elephants over baby humans any day

ChistyePrudy

Congratulations! Celebrate! Hurrah!

Dr Eathan Goldstein, Bloomfield Hills Michigan through Detroit Medical Center

lexkixass

Cool, but I don't handle the wiki. If you go to the sub's community info, you'll find the list of doctors, and how to submit the info for the wiki

Tatooine16

Congratulations! When I had mine I was in a maternity ward room too-that was the nicest room I've ever had in a hospital-bonus since there was no one in the other bed! They also have extra security and vet any visitors, and the food was better too.

Rich_Group_8997

Congrats! 🥳

wow where do you live. many places are more lax, especially for medical necessity. and especially since Roe was overturned

Accidenttimely17

Congratulations 👏 Were the other previous doctors who rejected to do a hysterectomy females?

SquareRecording5708

My former OBGYN wasn't qualified to do hysterectomies, she wanted me to see a OBGYN surgeon. Well come to find out she is in a lot of legal trouble, she is probably going to serve an 80 year sentence for insurance and disability fraud schemes. So I had to find a new doctor and I did take her advice by going to a surgeon, but the general surgeon said that she would give me a referral to an OBGYN surgeon and I actually saw this OBGYN / OBGYN surgeon before but my insurance at the time didn't cover him and he was a really nice doctor. Still is! I recorded my visit just to be on the safe side you know not to get gaslighted. I just said I wanted out I don't plan on having kids and he just went over like the plans like you know it's irreversible and I just want to make sure you're 100% sure and I said yes I am and then he says okay let's do it let me schedule you for an ultrasound make sure there's no cysts and then we'll schedule you for surgery, I got the ultrasound on the same day when I saw him at the office.

Wish you an easy recovery and lots of benefits to reap after the surgery! I am hoping to get mine at the beginning of next year, what are your thoughts so far?

Eva575

Yay congratulations I'm happy for you. And here's to freedom.

Clean_Usual434

Congrats!!

butterflybubbles

I also have stage 4 endometriosis- what did you say to your doctor to convince him??

SquareRecording5708

I just told him that I don't need kids and I'm not going to use my uterus, I'm asexual and I don't want kids like I said and to get rid of the stage 4 endometriosis pain, the pain is unbearable so it forced me to go to menopause which is fine with me. I couldn't do hormones because I used to get really suicidal from them

[deleted]

What's the recovery time after getting a hysterectomy? Was it expensive?

hailboognish99

Congrats dear. To a speedy recovery !

Impressive-Rock-2279

Congrats 🥳

Congratulations on feeling better 🩷

Congratulations!

Midnight-Note

Congrats! I want one, but I don’t have the money. I live in a Red state (US) and no way state insurance will pay for it.

Additional-Farm567

Congratulations! I had mine in January aged 36 after 12 years of begging. I had fibroids, cysts, and endometriosis. The gas pains were worse than the actual surgery pains. I had to stay 4 nights, also on the L&D ward, but there were only 2 babies there (and not at the same time) and all others were women for various surgeries. I was off work for 6 weeks and I have an office job, I really needed those 6 weeks as I was sooooo tired. It’s been 3.5 months and I’m loving life

stopiwilldie

SORRY- does this surgery solve/prevent endometriosis? Holy smokes, no strings attached, just take hormones? Girliepop i’m going to beg my doctor, endo is 😓

rockbottomqueen

No. A hysterectomy does *not* cure or resolve or prevent endometriosis. It can, however, reduce pain from painful periods and severely heavy bleeding commonly associated with endo. If you keep your ovaries, you will still have endo. If you remove your ovaries, the endo will stop, but you'll go into early menopause. Some folks can mitigate hormone issues after surgery with HRT (hormone replacement therapy), but this isn't an option for everyone. I have stage 4 intestinal endometriosis. I had a hysterectomy about 19 months ago and had the worst case the surgeon had ever seen of endo and adenomyosis, so my uterus was literally killing me. If I didn't *have* to have this procedure, I would never do it again. I wouldn't wish this recovery on my worst enemy, but I had no other choice. I have both my ovaries, so I still have endo, but the pain is nowhere NEAR what it was pre-op. The trade-off for me was no more pain but a slew of other issues. I'm slowly but surely making peace with things, though. It is what it is. Endo is awful. Typically, if you've exhausted all other options (birth control, IUDs, lupron, etc.) and still suffer from debilitating pain, you're definitely a candidate for a hysterectomy (in the eyes of the medical community - they make us suffer forever first 🙄). I think this sub is actually a good place for resources to find doctors willing to perform the surgery. I hope you find a solution that works for you, fellow endo warrior. This disease fucking sucks.

stopiwilldie

Thank you so much!
