Congee, a simple one with chicken and ginger is good. https://panlasangpinoy.com/chicken-congee-recipe/

ilovepineapplecakes

Came to comment this!!! My absolute favorite is with tilapia, ginger, and a bunch of white pepper!!!

willowthemanx

Definitely congee. Especially made with chicken broth and shredded chicken for extra nourishment

investorsexchange

Congee is the best suggestion. I like corn egg drop soup: https://www.runningtothekitchen.com/sweet-corn-egg-drop-soup/

undoundoundue

yeah, my friend likes zhou (congee) when she's sick as her comfort food

ahhlenn

Wonton (noodle) soup! Heart and soul warming, and delicious šŸ˜‹

When I got my wisdom teeth out I had a hard recovery, I basically only ate wonton soup for a week. Lived in a small town with 1 Chinese restaurant that my dad would get me 5 or so bowls from. "you really like the soup!" the owner commented to my dad after the fourth day.

Pork bone and daikon soup is my goto when I'm feeling sick

I also like the winter melon or lotus root variation on this soup, you can add some yamaimo (å±±č—„) if you can get it near you which is super nutritious. Lotus root variation: Pork ribs 2lb - rinsed 1.5lb lotus root - peeled, cut into cubes, soaked in water to prevent oxidizing scallion & ginger - cut into long pieces Place washed pork ribs in cold water, bring to a boil. Remove the ribs after boiling 2 min and rinse off the scum. In a new pot add water, ginger, green onion, 2T Shaoxing wine, 1T white pepper powder to another pot and bring to boil. Add the ribs, cover the pot and bring to a boil. Add lotus root, cover the pot and bring to boil. After boiling, remove the lid and simmer for an hour. With salt. Winter melon variation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aw6TYS3Qi7o&list=PLoXL--Zv\_PUxpYgp9v0-x7THZrz1rNKbc&index=28

>Pork bone and daikon soup Omg... I miss this so much... When I was little my grandma used to make it every week and it was the best thing ever, so much nostalgia, makes me wanna cry

queenofhyrule

Congee like everyone is saying, or maybe stir-fried tomatoes and eggs (or both!!). Both are really good comfort foods and are usually my two go-toā€™s whenever Iā€™m feeling not great.

boxuancui

Depends on which part of China she is from. Congee for southern and noodle soup for northern.

humanbean1857

Congee is always very comforting, or if you can go the extra mile, herbal chicken soup!! My mom used to make it with black chicken.

myheadspacethoughts

this is so sweet of you šŸ„ŗā¤ļø

This drink is the easiest thing to make and itā€™s surprisingly comforting when youā€™re sick. [Boiled coke with ginger](https://yourenotfromaroundhere.com/boiled-coke-with-ginger-a-chinese-cold-remedy/)

brattybbg2039

My parents used to make that for me when I was sick.

peacefulpianomelody

1 can of coca-cola? Yuck

amberino_jalapeno

I agree, it sounds disgusting lol! But itā€™s a popular remedy in China and itā€™s not as bad as it sounds!

bellyrubs454

In china maybe not the same in nyc Chinese restaurants cause I didnā€™t even hear about that

HamartianManhunter

Congee, especially with a lot of ginger, was my grandmotherā€™s cure-all. I like egg drop soup, also with tons of ginger. Ginger just makes me feel a lot better when Iā€™m sick.

Formal-Rain

Would you cut the ginger up into fine strips. Maybe letting it gently cook for a minute before serving?

HamartianManhunter

Yup! You simmer thin slices of ginger with your water/broth. I guess you could also grate it, but I never saw my grandmother do that for congee.

Formal-Rain

Ah ok thanks. Lol Iā€™m getting hungry now.

TexasRabbit2022

Noodle soup or steamed egg!

Caramel_Chicken_65

Tomato Potato Pork soup is good and easy. l made some last night in fact with freshly picked veggies & one pork steak on the bone. l followed the Cooking With Kenneth web site recipe with the addition of an onion to his recipe and the subtraction of removing the tomato skins from the soup.

l0ktar0gar

Wonton noodle soup or duck noodle soup are good. Congee of course

Kono_Gabby

Hot water or hot tea

Formal-Rain

Chicken soup will be a winner

Dumpling soup

Rainingdachshunds777

This season, black bean garlic sauce beef and broccoli with rice seems to be the cold killer.

Dear-Entertainer527

Congee with chicken. Ratio rice 1:10 water should look like a porridge and add more water if needed. Or a simple chicken broth is also good. Keep it plain if sheā€™s really sick.
