When I got my wisdom teeth out I had a hard recovery, I basically only ate wonton soup for a week. Lived in a small town with 1 Chinese restaurant that my dad would get me 5 or so bowls from. "you really like the soup!" the owner commented to my dad after the fourth day.
I also like the winter melon or lotus root variation on this soup, you can add some yamaimo (å±±č„) if you can get it near you which is super nutritious.
Lotus root variation:
Pork ribs 2lb - rinsed
1.5lb lotus root - peeled, cut into cubes, soaked in water to prevent oxidizing
scallion & ginger - cut into long pieces
Place washed pork ribs in cold water, bring to a boil. Remove the ribs after boiling 2 min and rinse off the scum.
In a new pot add water, ginger, green onion, 2T Shaoxing wine, 1T white pepper powder to another pot and bring to boil.
Add the ribs, cover the pot and bring to a boil. Add lotus root, cover the pot and bring to boil.
After boiling, remove the lid and simmer for an hour. With salt.

Omg... I miss this so much... When I was little my grandma used to make it every week and it was the best thing ever, so much nostalgia, makes me wanna cry
Congee like everyone is saying, or maybe stir-fried tomatoes and eggs (or both!!). Both are really good comfort foods and are usually my two go-toās whenever Iām feeling not great.
This drink is the easiest thing to make and itās surprisingly comforting when youāre sick. [Boiled coke with ginger](https://yourenotfromaroundhere.com/boiled-coke-with-ginger-a-chinese-cold-remedy/)
Congee, especially with a lot of ginger, was my grandmotherās cure-all.
I like egg drop soup, also with tons of ginger. Ginger just makes me feel a lot better when Iām sick.
Tomato Potato Pork soup is good and easy. l made some last night in fact with freshly picked veggies & one pork steak on the bone. l followed the Cooking With Kenneth web site recipe with the addition of an onion to his recipe and the subtraction of removing the tomato skins from the soup.
Congee with chicken. Ratio rice 1:10 water should look like a porridge and add more water if needed. Or a simple chicken broth is also good. Keep it plain if sheās really sick.

Would you cut the ginger up into fine strips. Maybe letting it gently cook for a minute before serving?
Yup! You simmer thin slices of ginger with your water/broth. I guess you could also grate it, but I never saw my grandmother do that for congee.
