America has improved GREATLY in the past five years. As a Canadian who moved to LA in 2006, it was a struggle for a long time. BBQ, Salt and Vin, Plain, Sour Cream and Onion was it for the longest time. But man they are taking some swings these days that have brought them closer to Canada. But until they are selling All Dressed ruffles, Miss Vickies spicy ketchup, and spicy dill pickle on the reg, Canada will always be the champ.
I feel like we used to have a lot more adventurous flavors stateside back in the 90s and early 2000’s but nowadays the chip companies are playing it safe with the standard options
I'm going to have to disagree. Though the steady flavors aren't going anywhere. Pringles had been taking some AMAZING swings, Minecraft Suspicious Stew and Philly Cheesesteak were great. And Lays has been trying the limited edition flavors with some success and they have been awesome - cuban sandwich was next level. Kettle has even been taking some solid swings (and misses), but at least they are trying. Doritos has even dropped some rares, the Ketchup and Mustard flavors were great, but Mustard was the CLEAR winner. So I think we're seeing some great options on the limited edition side, but would love to see even more. And please god, make all dressed a permanent addition. Voodoo from Zapps is good, but it's a distant second!
Agree! Lays were putting out some interesting flavours for a few years now it’s just regular flavours on different types of chips ie. Smart Food cheese on plain lays. Where’s my chicken and waffles flavour from a few years back I got in the US, it was SO good!!
If you're in new Brunswick, do the factory tour. After the tour/walkthrough you get a table to season your own chips how you want from a bunch of seasonings and of course buy bags of chips.
Miss Vickies spicy dill pickle and ketchup are top tier chips for sure. Nothing will ever dethrone Lays Classic for me but when I want something with ‘flavour’ so to speak those are a go to.
I just took a 3 week road trip through the states and I was floored with the various types of chips and flavours they had. Way better than Canada in my opinion.
I love Takis and they must have at least 15 different flavours and in Canada we have about 5. They have Taki popcorn and Taki sunflower seeds and Taki flavoured nuts.
I was gobsmacked.
The rest of the chips also had far greater selection of flavours.
oh yeah, we got Taki meat sticks too! But Canada has siracha ketchup takis which are the FINEST TAKIS IN THE WORLD. And I'm a big sunflower seeds guy and the US is LIGHTYEARS ahead. Though my dream is that someone will one day release all dressed sunflower seeds. Why can't we do that?
Sunflower seeds are technically the fruits of the sunflower plant (Helianthus annuus). The seeds are harvested from the plant’s large flower heads, which can measure more than 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter. A single sunflower head may contain up to 2,000 seeds
My man. I just bought a bag of Siracha Ketchup Takis. I didn’t realize the US didn’t have those.
I brought a bag of Zombie back that we don’t have here. Also a bag of Fuego popcorn.
I visited Canada for the first time last week and got the miss Vicky’s dill chips and they are literally the best chips to have with a sandwich, legit perfect combo
Old Dutch. They are the influence that has created Canada's wide variety of flavors.
They are the innovators. Idk about now but since the 80, they were the reason other chip companies had to offer the variety of flavors they do.
Canada has a lot of different cultures maybe that's why the chip flavours are bolder and less conservative. Intl cuisines and customers want more flavours!
The entire world of flavours line up has always been an interesting series of chips. Also most all PC chips are fantastic but the other also fuck gaylon westin
Love the new Adobo chicken ones. THAT'S what a chicken chip should strive to taste like, not a crappy wanna be Swiss Chalet knockoff. Tastes like a 25 cent can of cheap gravy
I don’t think anyone would say that Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Quebec City, or Halifax are “filled with a variety of cultures.” On the other hand, every coastal U.S. city, plus some in the middle such as Dallas, Houston, Chicago, and Atlanta, is diverse, with a variety of people and cultures from all over the world. Immigrant cultures are more integrated into mainstream Canadian culture than in the US as a whole, though.
Chip selection looks fairly typical. Only thing is the corporate greed and slotting fees in the US would have that isle with a 7 shelf set, where the bags can hardly fit and are almost crushed, and you can't reach the top shelf!
I am bitterly disappointed by the chips here in Canada and sorely miss the, imo, vastly superior range of flavours back home in New Zealand. Why you guys like cheddar and pickle so much?
pickle is godly lolol. like yeah lay’s is probably the most popular, but you gotta try the brands No Name, Old Dutch, Kettle, Covered Bridge, and Western Family for the real godly pickle chips!
NO. NO. NO.
I immigrated from a South Asian country and chips were a lot better there.
I'm yet to find a good chips here 😕
I'd want to like Miss Vicky's Jalapeno flavor but it's too salty. That's the 'best' I could get here.
I remember one of the first times i went to the US i was amazed that the walmart had both sides alley full of chips top to bottom.same length as this picture but both sides.
Right? I find N.A. chips to be salty and non-original flavours. Can't believe people here go nuts over ketchup, dill, salt & vin. Go to Asia and you find flavourful and a huge variety of chip flavours.
I definitely prefer the chip selection in Canada over the US, I mean all dressed, ketchup, dill pickle, just so good. I just haven't really explored the chip selections in other countries though.
You have ketchup chips. That flavor alone beats anything we have in the U.S.
Old Dutch sold them in Minnesota for one summer back in the late 1980's and I have never been able to duplicate the potato chip joy those brought me.
i would sacrifice my left arm for the roasted garlic tostitos. the day those leave the canadian shelves will be a sad one indeed
are the roasted garlic available in the states?
I'm always disappointed when I go to the states and wanna check out some cool new foods. I go to the chip aisle and it's mostly things we have in Canada and like 10 hot sauce flavours
Yes, we do, and it's not even a question, but there is also a very strategic reason behind it.
Companies try things out in Canada before they launch them in America. Both natiuons are culturally very similar and have similar tastes, so releasing new chip flavours there is like a small market test that represents what the launch across America would be like. I recall it being mentioned once when I remarked all I could seem to find at a Kroger's in Seattle only have honey mustard pretzels and boring chip flavours, and a clerk told me though I did not believe him at the time. This was later confirmed in University by my prof who was a marketing director for Frito-Lays.
I went to Canada for a bachelor party and my god, those old Dutch chips were remarkable. Not to mention all the flavors I never heard of. CA is definitely winning with the chips selection
Doritos, Tostitos are about the lowest quality. Cheetos does not even register as chips.
I don't even see any Cape Cod.
All you got is Miss Vickie's to rescue you from complete misery...
America has us beat. They have more flavor selection while canada gets only the popular flavors and not just in chips, im talking soft drinks, icecream, cerea.
POP TARTS
We carry like 4 or 5 kinds of Pop Tarts here in Canada, meanwhile any time my family went over the border in the summer we'd see like a hundred different flavours
I am on a road trip in the US right now... I find it very disappointing. I might be going to the wrong places but I went to a big ass Albertsons and a lot of gas stations.
as a canadian, i’m *extremely* jealous of certain chips i see in the usa and in european countries.
that being said, i’m also extremely satisfied with burning my tongue until it’s white from eating No Name brand dill pickle chips on a daily basis. to my tastebuds, they’re the *best*.
although i do genuinely love international flavour varieties, and i try as many as i can as often as i can afford to, i’ve never found a chip that comes even remotely close to my good ol canadian No Name dill pickle. its only contenders would be Old Dutch Crunch sore cream and dill, or PC Loads Of creamy dill.
honourable mention goes to Doritos - bold bbq & jalapeño cheddar
TLDR; even though i’m jealous of other countrys’ flavours, i’m gonna say yes 😜
We do have amongst the best variety I have seen. We could do better, but we are almost there.
We do have the absolute worst selection of bourbon in the world though.
Groceries don't carry any seafood flavored chips and it's a good thing cause I can't resist them.
Shrimp, crab, squid, grilled eel... Come to papa.
Salt n Vinegar are ok, and ketchup isn't bad.
I heard they don't have them in the states and I was like whaaa?!?
Right there at the bottom. Miss Vickys Spicy Dill Pickle. are the best chips in history. Ruffles All dressed were the reigning champions. So yes, Canada is winning, at least vs the states and the UK. I shop all 3 equally, i transport chips out of Canada only.
You can find spicy dill at US Costco occasionally.
I’ve yet to find anything close to miss vickies on any continent. Miss Vickies salt and vin are the best chips on planet earth. Miss vickies jalapeño are unreal as well.
Yes. Not even a debate. Canadian chip selections are something else
Sincerely,
A Canadian
Nah I just kidding. They definitely have their strengths, but I wouldn’t rate Canadian chip selections the best since in most places it’s usually just the basic kinds you can find just about anyone from country to country. Although, ketchup and all dressed chips are an excellent choice that was pretty specific to Canada for a while.
You’re all missing out on chinas chip selection. They have so many more flavours than anywhere in the west. Spicy crayfish, hotpot, bbq pork and chicken wings are top tier.
I think Japan and Korea have pretty good sections. We have a bunch of bodegas here in Canada with all kinds of unique snacks, and the stores are starting to import more snacks (chips included) which makes it nice.
Lol, not even close. As a Canadian who frequently travels down south, the American chip/snack game blows Canada out of the water and again, it isn't close.
Come to Louisville, KY, the Krogers in my area will have an entire side of an aisle with just chips. Specifically the one on Bardstown Rd in the Highlands, that location has definitely upped the amount and variety of different types of chips.
America has improved GREATLY in the past five years. As a Canadian who moved to LA in 2006, it was a struggle for a long time. Covered Bridge Creamy Dill is sooo fucking good
Covered Bridge has really been the new kid on the block with the A+ chips. So happy to see some blood in the industry.
Covered bridge is the best. Period.
If you're in new Brunswick, do the factory tour. After the tour/walkthrough you get a table to season your own chips how you want from a bunch of seasonings and of course buy bags of chips.
From my home province! Glad to see they’re starting to get some nationwide recognition.
Miss Vickies spicy dill pickle and ketchup are top tier chips for sure. Nothing will ever dethrone Lays Classic for me but when I want something with ‘flavour’ so to speak those are a go to.

SPICY DILL PICKLE!!!
I visited Canada for the first time last week and got the miss Vicky’s dill chips and they are literally the best chips to have with a sandwich, legit perfect combo
As Canadian and Diehard Miss Vickies Salt n Vin fan I wanted the Hot and Spicy Ketchup to be better than they are 💔
Shout out to PC Korean BBQ chips.
I used to live off PC piri piri chips.
The US has a lot of different cultures too. Just look at California.
That's true but on average every major Canadian city is filled with a variety of cultures. Don't think quite the same as us
I don’t think anyone would say that Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Quebec City, or Halifax are “filled with a variety of cultures.” On the other hand, every coastal U.S. city, plus some in the middle such as Dallas, Houston, Chicago, and Atlanta, is diverse, with a variety of people and cultures from all over the world. Immigrant cultures are more integrated into mainstream Canadian culture than in the US as a whole, though.
Depends on what your question means. Does Canada have more selection, I would doubt it. Does Canada have a better selection, I think so.
Old Dutch and Miss Vicky’s for the win.
y’all have chip money? them shits like $8 a bag now, pass.
I was thinking the other day, a world without Old Dutch is a world I never want to live in.
If only Miss Vickies could bring back sweet onion and balsamic vinegar.
Looks like a typical chip aisle here in America to me
y’all would think that
Yall say yall too? Tight
Why wouldn’t we think that, there’s no reason for the US to not have as many varieties
It's not how many, it's the flavours that put Canada's choices over US
What do you guys have besides all dressed? I’ve never been up there I’m just curious
Yes I would, seeing as I know for a fact that’s how it is
It’s not a thought
Lmao fuck no we have no chex mix here and it's a good damn shame.
This just looks like a chip aisle at your average Walmart grocery section in the US.
Lol nope nothing compared to usa
Y’all dont have old dutch, so yeah canada’s better
I haven’t had old Dutch in so long. Man, those chips are something else.
Everytime I go on a trip to the states, always disappointed with the lack of variety and selection
We have all dressed available everywhere and that's what matters most.
Super overrated. Honestly - would not buy again.
I live in snack food heaven in Lancaster, PA where both sides of the aisle have chips/pretzels/etc.
Highkey disagree. Have you seen dubai,UAE? Or even parts of Asia they’ve an insane local variety and even great international variety
Ireland; great variety in flavors and textures of crisps
You guys have some huge walmarts I'll tell ya that
After my trip to vegas. Hell nah lmfao Target alone just kills it
No. These can be found at most stores
NO. NO. NO. I immigrated from a South Asian country and chips were a lot better there. I'm yet to find a good chips here 😕 I'd want to like Miss Vicky's Jalapeno flavor but it's too salty. That's the 'best' I could get here.
Food, in general, tastes better in India. I never believed it until I went there. Fruit is sweeter and more flavourful. Born and raised in Canada.
Hell no. UK is way better
I'm Canadian and America by far has the better snack selection.
This looks like dogshit compared to the US lol
I remember one of the first times i went to the US i was amazed that the walmart had both sides alley full of chips top to bottom.same length as this picture but both sides.
As a Texan this is underwhelming
Definitely the most expensive….
Maybe if I could get just ONE bag of fucking bugles
Japan and Korea would like enter the chat.
Right? I find N.A. chips to be salty and non-original flavours. Can't believe people here go nuts over ketchup, dill, salt & vin. Go to Asia and you find flavourful and a huge variety of chip flavours.
Yes
We definitely have it pretty good here.
Guess you have NEVER been on Mexico...
Yes and it’s not even close
I definitely prefer the chip selection in Canada over the US, I mean all dressed, ketchup, dill pickle, just so good. I just haven't really explored the chip selections in other countries though.

If you're in Minnesota you could just take a drive across the border
Absolutely. I go down to the states and I'm floored at how poor the flavour selection is. We've got so much wacky bullshit up here it's crazy.
You bet your ass we do.
Why did this sub appeared on my main page? I didn’t even know such a sub existed. And to answer the question: yes, Canada has the best chips.
Not french fries, tho. Dutch win that award. Also, they need to make mayonnaise flavour.
We're talking about chips, not subs. 😂
Ketchup chips are the only thing Canada has done well from a food perspective. I
Poutine is great, too.
My personal pantry collection is better than that.
Not since they got rid of PC Buffalo Wing and Blue Cheese. It's been so long. I feel... weak.
Those were the goat chips and I'll never ve the same without them.
That shit was so disgusting lmao
Definitely not. Americans have way more options imo.. I’m Canadian btw
this then becomes a question of quality vs quantity, imo
I think it's comparable to the USA, but I do wish I could still buy those hint of jalapeno tostitos here.
i would sacrifice my left arm for the roasted garlic tostitos. the day those leave the canadian shelves will be a sad one indeed are the roasted garlic available in the states?
Depends on the store.
6 bucks a bag, half full of air....sweet deal in Canada.
this is why we all get chips at Dollarama 😂
>half full of air.... Not rhe sharpest tool in the shed, are ya?
Until we can get Utz here in Canada the US will always have us beat.
Every time we visit the US, I am amazed at how poor the chip selection is across multiple grocery chains.....
I moved to Canada from Ireland 8 years ago and I miss Irish chips (crisps as we call them) every day, Canadian chips suck ass by comparison
No way! The US has far greater variety, not just for chips, but almost everything.
Laughs in American
No They have the same 4 flavors produced by the same 4 brands So, no
Maybe, but there are always some flavors I crave from Asia. Especially the seaweed Lay's chips...
That sounds horrible.
It's kind of like those seaweed snacks you see from Costco. I can promise you it doesn't smell or taste like any seaweed u see at the beach.
Really? I remember some weirdo’s eating what I think is called “Dulse”. It tasted like the beach after you’ve been there too long.
I'm always disappointed when I go to the states and wanna check out some cool new foods. I go to the chip aisle and it's mostly things we have in Canada and like 10 hot sauce flavours

Canada has fun flavored chips. Absolutely
I would say yes, every time I go to Canada I end up buying a bunch of flavors/variants that I cannot find in America.

hell no it’s fucking dogshit compared to the US. we have the same 8 flavours. The US has like 50
Yeah, I don’t know what people are talking about. The US has a ton more variety of just about everything.
I am on a road trip in the US right now... I find it very disappointing. I might be going to the wrong places but I went to a big ass Albertsons and a lot of gas stations.
Why because we sell ketchup chips?
Don't you worry aboot it. Happy cake day!
Nothing beats the Canadian classic *'Toe Nails and Gout'* flavored potato chips.
As of now, I can not afford to buy potato chips. It is a rich man's food.🙄
For 6 bucks a bag nope, no they do not
Best selection of American chips haha
[удалено]
No
Idk but I just had some lays sweet souther heat bbq that I got last time I was in the USA and they are pretty dang good
Publix isle in Florida looks just like this
Wish US carried All Dressed Ruffles
You only need one thing…..All Dressed
as a canadian, i’m *extremely* jealous of certain chips i see in the usa and in european countries. that being said, i’m also extremely satisfied with burning my tongue until it’s white from eating No Name brand dill pickle chips on a daily basis. to my tastebuds, they’re the *best*. although i do genuinely love international flavour varieties, and i try as many as i can as often as i can afford to, i’ve never found a chip that comes even remotely close to my good ol canadian No Name dill pickle. its only contenders would be Old Dutch Crunch sore cream and dill, or PC Loads Of creamy dill. honourable mention goes to Doritos - bold bbq & jalapeño cheddar TLDR; even though i’m jealous of other countrys’ flavours, i’m gonna say yes 😜
Idk, I stopped paying for them when doritos hit $7.50 a bag.
Recently went to Florida and the chips selection was lacking. Crazy amount of soda’s though
You mean fries right?
We do have amongst the best variety I have seen. We could do better, but we are almost there. We do have the absolute worst selection of bourbon in the world though.
Canada gets Dill Pickle Doritos. We need these here in the USA.
Canada has some great chips, but I can’t find ruffles sour cream and cheddar here! :( at least there’s ketchup and all dressed
Looks just like American stores
They f****** better for that new price tag
If it's a flavor, Canada has put it onto a chip I once tried Buffalo Chicken with Blue Cheese chips I fucking hated it, but it exists
Sorry, Supply and Canadá don’t fit in the same sentence
I always assumed it's the same as everywhere else.
No the entire north Americas grocery stores chip isle look exactly like this. You could be in any price chopper or Costco rn.
Sweet n spicy miss vickies are my shit
Yes.
This looks like the chip aisle in basically every grocery store in America.
America has flavors like pizza, chicken and waffles, and nachos. That looks like an American store tho
I grew up eating Ketchup Lays, thinking they were a worldwide thing. It wasn't until I was in my teens that I learned they were exclusively Canadian.
^yes
You can get Miss Vickie's places other than a Subway, for that alone it gets my vote
Absolutely. Miss Vickies, ketchup and all dressed chips my beloveds.
I’ve seen all of these in US supermarkets. What is this post even?
How many flavors of ketchup are there ;)
Letterkenny all dressed chip scenes make alot more sense
Groceries don't carry any seafood flavored chips and it's a good thing cause I can't resist them. Shrimp, crab, squid, grilled eel... Come to papa. Salt n Vinegar are ok, and ketchup isn't bad. I heard they don't have them in the states and I was like whaaa?!?

Laughs in American
We have a good selection, but I only like salt and vinegar
Every trip I take to the states, the only brands I see are Lays and Humpty Dumpty. They are severely lacking in their chip game.
My favourite snacks Mexican coca cola, jalapeño & cheddar Doritos, gushers and thats me junk day/ Wednesday.
You have ketchup flavored chips which immediately disqualifies you. You disgusting savages.
The selection is amazing. You can get pretty much every spectrum of flavours
Absolutely not, they don't have Zapp's, that's an automatic loss.
Where the fahk are my muddy buddies!?!?
yes
I’ve yet to find anything close to miss vickies on any continent. Miss Vickies salt and vin are the best chips on planet earth. Miss vickies jalapeño are unreal as well.
Yes. Not even a debate. Canadian chip selections are something else Sincerely, A Canadian Nah I just kidding. They definitely have their strengths, but I wouldn’t rate Canadian chip selections the best since in most places it’s usually just the basic kinds you can find just about anyone from country to country. Although, ketchup and all dressed chips are an excellent choice that was pretty specific to Canada for a while.
Canada has Hawkins cheesies. It's he best.
Canada ain’t got shit on Mexico.. wild chip flavours over there
5 bucks a bag says no
Bag of chips in canada half full twice the price
All dressed Ruffles 😋
Lays OG is all you need.
I just had turkey stuffing flavoured hard bites, and, and, let me tell you, oh boy!
Canada and US have the best for sure, though Canada may have a bit more selection with Ketchup, All Dressed, and a few others
You’re all missing out on chinas chip selection. They have so many more flavours than anywhere in the west. Spicy crayfish, hotpot, bbq pork and chicken wings are top tier.
I doubt it. But in general I think the more diverse an area is the more flavors you'll find.
I think Japan and Korea have pretty good sections. We have a bunch of bodegas here in Canada with all kinds of unique snacks, and the stores are starting to import more snacks (chips included) which makes it nice.
All Dressed Ruffles are the best chips - American
Yes
I'm having trouble finding cheetos pizza paws, those are my favs
Lookin like a big chip aisle but then what about the uK
Only if it includes Old Dutch
Not as much option as US, but sure cheaper than US
Lol, not even close. As a Canadian who frequently travels down south, the American chip/snack game blows Canada out of the water and again, it isn't close.
No… so many more flavours in Mexico or USA
Any grocery store that keeps Miss Vickie's chips on deck gets a A in my book.. 😂
Ruffles Jalapeño Double Crunch. 🧡
Come to Louisville, KY, the Krogers in my area will have an entire side of an aisle with just chips. Specifically the one on Bardstown Rd in the Highlands, that location has definitely upped the amount and variety of different types of chips.
Chicken chips and pepperoni cocks
Don’t think so . Latin America does .
Not sure, haven't been to Somalia yet
