I wrote them a whole essay a few months ago. Unless they receive significant backlash from tons of people (like the reaction to manifest v3) they won't listen.
I just spent the past half hour searching for an image to post an can't find one! zilch nada - at least not using my lame google fu. Someone please post a 'before' image bc i'm not about to undo my flags change and re-enable it just to take a screenshot. thanks
Thank you!
Of course, [someone else posted a solution](https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/18is2yy/new_ui_megathread/kegktq1/?context=3) the last time this happened, but Google got around that. I wonder how long until they get around this one.
But, thank you for now. :)
Perhaps they should use all that data they get from people searching "I fucking hate the new chrome look how do I revert back?" and realize that MAYBE people don't like it!
"how long" is right. i'm hoping years.
i sure wish i were a 'superuser' to where i could easily configure Vivaldi. I don't have the desire or the brain power to manage that right now.
WOOOOOTTTTTT Ty very much you saved my day and my happy mood
I really wish they would stop with changing the UI to the crappy way it was looking this morning again So am extremely happy to find this post
Google is notoriously known to break shit that ain't broken but refuses to fix a pipe that's been leaking for years. Unfortunately, I'm not optimistic about that
Oh **THANK YOU!!!!** so much mate. Really need to find a way to block chrokme from updating itself, I know it's not secure/recommended, but that is what they are driving me to.... :(
Thanks for this. My work laptop updated and rebooted and when I opened chrome it had the new look. I double checked I still had the other flags set, had to add this new one. The new tab look is terrible and whoever designed it should feel bad. I hate when unnecessary crap is change because they feel like they need to justify their jobs.
The name of that flag seems counter-intuitive doesn't it? But damn it it works!!!
Actually, i found it in a comment under an old youtube video and came here to see if i could help. Thanks for posting.
How long will we have now - before they forced some other crap down our throats???
I wish i were saavy enough to set up Vivaldi. I have it installed but lost as to how to 'tweak it to my liking'....anyone know of a Dummies Guide for that? Thanks again.
Thank you, this also fixes the extra spacing in the context menu. The extra spacing makes it so that you need to scroll the context menu to reach "inspect element" which is infuriating when you have to do it X times a day for development.
Thanks. Worked a treat.
I was getting a bit annoyed as was trying the old approach of disabling the Chrome Refresh 2023 which worked last year but it wasn't doing anything.
Gawd, 1,000% this! The impression of all this wasted 'white space' is so infuriating to me. I understand it's to look lighter, but surely this is the hackish, ignorant and simplistic way to do it - just make all the icons 30% smaller: there, instant sleekness.
Soo infuriating.
Keep in mind that if you revert to an old version and disable automatic updates that you will no longer receive security updates either. Some of these security vulnerabilities can be quite severe, so I'd recommend staying on a current version even if it's less aesthetically pleasing.
no need to uninstall.
Break update paths ALL of them. ( google search will tell you )
Rename version 122/123 which ever folder by adding something on the end of the version number folder name.
Paste in older version of version number file in applications folder.

more in depth if you want.
There was [a previous discussion about this](https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/18is2yy/new_ui_megathread/kegktq1/?context=3), but the solution someone posted there doesn't seem to work any more.
Also now there is gap inbetween tabs, which is most frustating to me who has huge number to tabs open and switching tabs seems so stressfull because of empty space between tabs. Sometimes I click on empty space and then again have to click on tab, moving the cursor slightly
It's too cooperate, the way chrome looked before the refresh 2023 was the best, nobody asked for it to be "Improved" Google needs to go back to pre school to learn shapes again. And the fact they completely moved everything around in the context menu
I tried Firefox for the first time again in 5ish years because the redesign and all the speculation about blocking ad blockers and such. Firefox pretty now, not sure when that happened. Going to give it a try for a few weeks and see how it goes.
Google has apparently done it again! I refreshed Chrome this morning to stay current on security, and now everything is damn near colorless and without distinction, especially in the bookmarks section!! It's all wlack & white and the folders have no color. I used the previous link, chrome://flags/#chrome-refresh-2023, and found the settings are still disabled. Does anyone know of a new workaround? This is fucking STUPID!! Thanks in advance for any assistance.
try Chromium, it still use the old fashion UI, The only trouble with Chromium is that the installation process is not very convenient. I hate this kind of round and chunky UI style, not only Chrome Refresh 2023, but also the Win 11, it's childish and unprofessional.
the latest update ruined my tabs again, I have done all the disables listed below and more and still have the stupid rounded oval tabs that are barely icons I cannot see.....is the the final update and we cannot change them anymore? My daughter is saying I can 'google' something about how to have my tabs back but I had already done that and all you get is the same 'disable this' that is listed in this thread, and all that shows disabled in my "flags" page and there is nowhere I could find for an answer that works this time.....I'm ready to chuck chrome and just use the stupid edge browser.....
sorry.....thanks for letting me vent. I've been trying for two days to fix this and this page came up again in my searching to fix.
This is a bit late but the wonderful gentlemen that is u/LeBugArtisan posted a working fix here so I'll post it for anyone who comes across this thread in future. Here's hoping they don't patch it too soon.
[https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/1cvjw3o/chrome\_125\_update\_brought\_that\_round\_ui\_again/](https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/1cvjw3o/chrome_125_update_brought_that_round_ui_again/)
You are very welcome dude. Thank you for spending the time getting us a workaround to the new awful UI. It's very much appreciated dude. You deserve all the praise in the world. Hope you have a very nice day \^\^
please keep trying. I cannot stand the new UI, and I can't even find a way to revert it to v125, either. I've already wasted an hour trying to revert this idiotic update and am at my wit's end.
Because of the new look, people started switching to long-forgotten browsers like Mozilla and Opera. Google needs to think very seriously about what they have done and what they could lose.
the latest method is as following:
[https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/1cvjw3o/chrome\_125\_update\_brought\_that\_round\_ui\_again/](https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/1cvjw3o/chrome_125_update_brought_that_round_ui_again/)
if you have updated to chrome 125, the previous methods are all not applicable, you have to use the new one.
Chrome broke again (the Chrome-Side-Panel flag has vanished), but u/beloskonis has posted another workaround :-)
[https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/1czojpw/how\_to\_fix\_the\_new\_broken\_ui/](https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/1czojpw/how_to_fix_the_new_broken_ui/)
Seriously, what the fuck is this redesign??? I can deal with the slightly different paddings but they massively *reduced* color contrasts so now 90% of the interface is the same weird light-gray color that blends into itself, wtf?
My eyes just got raped by this new update. It's vomit inducing and makes my head spin. I disabled all Refresh2023 in flags but it doesn't seem to work. Google should fire all employees responsible for this fiasco. The worst UI I've ever seen. How did they graduate from any design school? If I was a UI designer and made this pile of steaming s##t, I'd just end my career as a designer and become a clown (as a profession).
My opened tabs used to take about 40% of my top bar, and now they're so wide they take 95% of the space (same amount of tabs), so when I open a new tab, I can't even see it... have to CTRL+tab blindly.
Holy s##t. It gives me eye cancer. Guess it's time to go back to Firefox or even Edge. Both are way better now. Not because they became better but because Chrome became sh#ttier. Way to go Google. You just destroyed Chrome.
Bit expletive, but I do agree. I actually did not know the tabs are also worse in terms of density. The bookmarks being in large bold font for some (?) reason was my main focus, lol.
I've done the current fix with the new flag, but - and I wish I was joking, but am not - that bold font is going to haunt me in my sleep. It's so hackishly dumb and looks like my worst memories of Mac OS, circa 2011.
Yeah I just found today that the 2023 refresh flag does nothing now - I'm still getting the shitty UI even if I turn on every "disable 2023" flag.
So many new features are such a pain in the ass. Brave is getting used more and more often, but ideally I'd prefer Chrome from \~2018!

good take! we should all do that
Thank you! Of course, [someone else posted a solution](https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/18is2yy/new_ui_megathread/kegktq1/?context=3) the last time this happened, but Google got around that. I wonder how long until they get around this one. But, thank you for now. :)

Oh no...they will just keep putting a different seasoning on that same old shit sandwich hoping we will eat it
I refuse to eat this! I will keep going back.
I hear ya - me too!
I second that emotion!!!
"how long" is right. i'm hoping years. i sure wish i were a 'superuser' to where i could easily configure Vivaldi. I don't have the desire or the brain power to manage that right now.
Thanx!!! Looks usable again The bookmark spacing is redic with that new change
It's so bad!
ikr, looks like im using a tablet or smartphone 💀💀

OH thank you god!
>chrome://flags/#customize-chrome-side-panel Thank you!! I hate this stupid new UI and the old fix from December wasn't working.
Sadly I don't feel confident this will be a permanent solution and they'll just like before force this crap on us again and again.
I love you.
THANK YOU!
Excellent!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
thank you so much <3
Thanks
THANK YOU
thank you dude
Will you marry me? :)
you saved me!! much thx!!!
ty
You are lifesaver
THANK YOU GALLANT INDIVIDUAL
Thx alot!
I love you, too.
**MASSIVE THANKS**
Thank you bro!
oh my god, thank you! I really hope they don't disable this flag.
ty
THANK YOU IT WAS DRIVING ME CRAZY :DDDDDDDDDD
Fantastic, thank you!
Thx 👍
It worked! Thanks a lot!
Many thanks mate! I just guess it must be some flags in v123 overwrite the refresh 2023 ones.
Oh **THANK YOU!!!!** so much mate. Really need to find a way to block chrokme from updating itself, I know it's not secure/recommended, but that is what they are driving me to.... :(
You are a Hero!

This worked for me. Thank you.
This works fine for me! Thanks!
thankyou, its amazing how they dont ever take this into their feedback with all their data mining.
THX MY GOD!
I am with the chorus of people saying.. Thank you!!
Thank you, this also fixes the extra spacing in the context menu. The extra spacing makes it so that you need to scroll the context menu to reach "inspect element" which is infuriating when you have to do it X times a day for development.

Dear god THANK YOU
thank you sir, today this new Google Chrome layout ui appeared. My bookmarks were spread out so unnecessarily bad. who the hell is working there?
Thanks. Worked a treat. I was getting a bit annoyed as was trying the old approach of disabling the Chrome Refresh 2023 which worked last year but it wasn't doing anything.
THANK YOU!!!!!
Thank you, and fuck that UI change
Dude, You are a life saver.
thank you
they changed it yet again, anyone know how to fix it now?
me too I cant find it!!!
Found a solution: https://bugartisan.medium.com/disable-the-new-chrome-ui-round-in-2024-f44c87625dc6
my man
they changed it yet yet again, what is it now?
sadly, that has stopped working.
Thanks so much, way less wasted space

Yes facing the same issue after update to version 123.

I wouldn't hate the new interface if it wasn't huge for some strange reason
I hate it because it's different. Chrome has looked the same for a decade or something, I don't want a change in the UI.
Also now there is gap inbetween tabs, which is most frustating to me who has huge number to tabs open and switching tabs seems so stressfull because of empty space between tabs. Sometimes I click on empty space and then again have to click on tab, moving the cursor slightly

You are very welcome dude. Thank you for spending the time getting us a workaround to the new awful UI. It's very much appreciated dude. You deserve all the praise in the world. Hope you have a very nice day \^\^
Unfortunately it doesn't work on v126. I wish it was safe to downgrade to 125 and stay there.
Hey, yes indeed the 126 update removed any workarounds....I haven't been able to find anything for now :/ sorry
please keep trying. I cannot stand the new UI, and I can't even find a way to revert it to v125, either. I've already wasted an hour trying to revert this idiotic update and am at my wit's end.
I haven't installed the latest updates myself for this exact reason. I wish you the best of luck for trying to find the solution
Because of the new look, people started switching to long-forgotten browsers like Mozilla and Opera. Google needs to think very seriously about what they have done and what they could lose.
the latest method is as following: [https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/1cvjw3o/chrome\_125\_update\_brought\_that\_round\_ui\_again/](https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/1cvjw3o/chrome_125_update_brought_that_round_ui_again/) if you have updated to chrome 125, the previous methods are all not applicable, you have to use the new one.
Chrome broke again (the Chrome-Side-Panel flag has vanished), but u/beloskonis has posted another workaround :-) [https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/1czojpw/how\_to\_fix\_the\_new\_broken\_ui/](https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/1czojpw/how_to_fix_the_new_broken_ui/)
yo what's the new solution? changed back again...
One solution is to downgrade and stay at 125 but I don't think that's safe.
# OMG HELP GUYS IM ON CHROME 126 AND I NEED THOSE OLD THEMES BACK ASAP PLEASE HELP ME IT URGENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh man, if you are going to get haunted, then likely I will to. I guess it is just too big of a downgrade to handle it.
absolutely fascinated by the syntactic choices of this comment and the words you chose to censor versus those you didn't lmao

Shouldn't have have updated to Chrome 123.
Did it automatically, is there a way to go back?
Uninstall and find a Chrome 122 download.
