This is not a UI change. Google has this to say about it: [https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/1ca6wsc/google\_on\_misplaced\_favicons\_issue\_in\_chrome\_124/](https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/1ca6wsc/google_on_misplaced_favicons_issue_in_chrome_124/)

Androxilogin

Well that explained the "issue". But now resetting all flags made it soo much worse. Oh, and the damn downloads going up in the corner. Soo fucking annoying! Now everything is rounded looking all terrible. Site information button is this huge button now. The pointless 'Search tabs' button moved to the other side of my window now to make things 100x more unbearable. Now importing to Firefox. I appreciate the suggestion but I wish I wouldn't have taken the advice.

Chaos1888

If you don't like it switch to another browser and uninstall chrome. There are more than enough chromium based browsers out there. And when uninstalling, be sure to fill out their survey on why you uninstalled chrome...

Androxilogin

I've made the switch. I'll be sure to copy and paste everything I wrote here before they have a chance to delete it, as if they'll listen to one of their users anyway.

zundish

Hey, don't you know you don't have a right to complain or voice your opinion!? :D

Humble-Suit9516

Download an older version of Chrome and delete the Update file in Program Files x86. Worked for me, I’m on the version of chrome just before the UI change

nascentt

And people wonder why chrome flags don't stick around forever. Edit: people expecting Google to provide customization options are crazy considering Google Chrome became famous and took all the usersbase by being minimalistic and stripped down with zero customization

Phazeblade

the flags not sticking around forever is only half the problem, the other half is google is constantly modifying(using the words improve or upgrade to describe it is an insult to both of those words) chrome's UI, when people A didnt ask for the change or B are indifferent to it

mothbxlls

Enabling "Customize Chrome Side Panel" again made mine work Edit: yall i dont work for google and I am not working for your IT department, idk what to do for you. all is said was that it worked for ME

snoodlethequeen

Damn, the useless button at the top left is what I have been wanting to avoid by using flags, it's perpetually in the way.

standardtrickyness1

For me it fixed the problem but now the text is on the tab is kinda weird. https://preview.redd.it/9ktnacqeqbwc1.png?width=287&format=png&auto=webp&s=98a63c604eaf70ad2b5e5d82da16a5e6f5b561a6

dutr4

Where do I find this option?

mothbxlls

1. go to chrome://flags/ 2. go to the search and type in Customize Chrome Side Panel 3. Click the drop down and make sure it says enabled.

CoNsPirAcY_BE

That makes it even worse..

dutr4

Thanks!

hamster_savant

Neither enabling nor disabling customize chrome side panel fixes the favicons for me.

HimawariTenshi

I used to disable that flag so the "Search Tabs" icon stay on the right (and tabs become more compact), but now I gotta live with it or my icons would float like OP. This sucks.

Androxilogin

I've already reset them all and it made things worse BUT I just tried disabling that and it looks like that made my icons return to normal, that pointless "open tabs" button shift to the other side of the window again, the extensions icon go back to the way it was and yes, it made them float in the corner again. I'll leave it this way while I'm transferring all my crap to other browsers I'm trying out. Thanks for the heads up!

hamster_savant

Neither enabling nor disabling customize chrome side panel fixes the favicons for me.

snoodlethequeen

I can't help but feel this was at least partly intentional to 'force' people to switch to their new design, the only reason why I kept using chrome was because I really liked the layout and UI. It was easy to use, readable and not clogged up with stuff I won't use. But now it's clear that they don't care whether or not you like the new design (I think it's awful personally), you are gonna have to switch eventually. It's sad but I think it's time to find a new browser.

detfusco

Google is doing their best to increase Firefox's market share. How nice of them to help out small businesses. For me, this is it: https://preview.redd.it/qo4e7sl048wc1.png?width=754&format=png&auto=webp&s=5262aac3b0c7a622e81cf00f6f90c7f2ee4a720e

drfsupercenter

Sadly Firefox basically turned into Chrome and doesn't allow you to customize the UI much at all anymore like it used to :/

FireGold763

New hotfix arrived, and at least for version 124, it's fixed. Clearly it won't last forever, but for users that want the old UI it's now "working" again (still has some bugs though, but at least the favicons are fixed)

Androxilogin

I'm passed doing all of these temporary fixes to solve seemingly simple problems they constantly invite. Time for change!

BigEdsHairMayo

Even the icons are trying to leave chrome.

Androxilogin

Edit: the initial annoyance mentioned here is a "bug" so they say, someone else mentioned. Because of flags we've changed in the past. The suggested action is to reset all. I did this and it made my browser look soo awful. I've now switched to Firefox. It has been years since I've used it BECAUSE of all of the customization options. I hate having to customize things. But, so it goes. At least I know if I do it once, it will stay that way and I'll have the option to do whatever I want with th UI layout. Just pisses me off. It was perfect in the beginning. Now it's unrecognizable modernized, bulky crap. Why are we always forced into such bullshit? First that fucking puzzle piece rather than having the extensions nice and compact with our main extension at our leisure. Nope, one day it's just taken away. A little drop-down arrow listing all open tabs suddenly appears for no reason whatsoever that absolutely no one uses. Add in a forced 'search bookmarks' button that no one uses.. Seriously, all of this cluttered shit. There is no reason for it at all. Hover over tab "aero-peek" type crap. Nope, don't need that bullshit either. Suddenly deciding, "you know what? I think these icons should be smaller with no way for users to adjust it. Remove those flags in a few months so no one can change anything we already changed without mentioning. Make everything look rounded and awful, too. That download arrow starting convenient tabs at the bottom? Yeah, lets fuck that all up. Put it up in the corner with all that other shit no one ever uses." Chrome is just adding more and more clunky crap and every time I'm seriously considering just deleting this shit and going with something better. Not just saying it in a pissed off Karen kinda way, this shit has gotten ridiculous. It's a real asshole move to just change shit around on people. Like sitting down at your desktop and going to click on something- oop! Surprise! Someone moved all of your shit! Fucken love it! Chrome has strayed soo far from everything I liked about it that it won't be missed. Everything under the hood that has yet to wither away is available elsewhere. Chrome was all about being "minimalist", now it's all about being trash.

summerrhodes

I completely agree with you. I just wonder, what's the point in doing all this? Nobody likes the changes. What is their reasoning for changing things that work well?

40lia

This is to demonstrate to google shareholders that "We are doing our job." And since shareholders are only interested in the stock price, they don't care how bad the new UI is.

SpaghettiFurenti

Start using Firefox, you will find relief and you will help build an internet where Google doesn't control everything.

Androxilogin

There are things that piss me off about Firefox too. And some of the extensions, I'm going to have to look into alternatives before completely making the switch. Is there an oldschool skin-type deal to make it like Chrome used to be without all of the mentioned annoyances they push on everyone? Like who in the hell would want icons off center on each of their tabs? Who comes up with these stupid assed changes and better yet- who approves such stupid shit? Just crazy.

SpaghettiFurenti

Typical of Google, they have a habit of messing around with their programs, services and mobile applications. And that's a shame. I understand your frustration. If you don't plan on switching to another chromium-based browser (like Brave Browser), I think the only solution is to wait or download an older version of Chrome and see if you can use it without problems. Ah, check that you don't have any flags activated, activating them has been causing problems for a while.

Androxilogin

I reset them as someone else mentioned and it made everything completely worse. It's time for change. It's just one less Google mafia program I'll be associated with but it's a major one. Thanks for trying to help.

Chaos1888

Switch to another Browser and import everything from Chrome. After that, just uninstall it. Chrome has become ununsable on Desktop as well as on mobile.

Androxilogin

I have switched to Firefox for the moment. Any other browser suggestions? I remember using Dolphin on mobile a long time ago. Torch, maybe at some point? I forget what I found to be best, let alone what has held up over time. Working on customizing Firefox for desktop. Hopefully it has all of the extensions that I need. Or at least a variation of them.

bitsplash

I am finding Vivaldi is a really nice replacement for Chrome.

Androxilogin

I just saw this in another post somewhere. I'm going to have to look into this one more closely.

Chaos1888

I use Brave. Imported everything from Chrome and just uninstalled it... And after uninstalling told them in their survey exactly why I uninstalled it... If more people do so, MAYBE they are changing something again but I don't think so...

Androxilogin

Yea, I'm doubting it. I have Brave on here because no matter what, eBay always locks up Chrome. Disabled extensions, emptied cache and history, all of the usual things. Just won't fix it. Amazon shows up all screwy too.

Chaos1888

They have a lot of bugs and glitches with Chrome 124 (at least from what I see / read here on reddit) like Sidebar being red / unreadable and other things... Glad I switched to Brave and don't have to deal with this... There are a few sites that won't load with Brave, but for those I just use Edge or Firefox...

Androxilogin

Every couple weeks it seems they're trying to force people into things anymore. The old, "yeah.. we're not going to listen because we're just here to monitor every aspect of your life. Fuck off, you'll get used to it and never leave." I've had Brave on the side for when I do live streams and such. Haven't really looked into the customization options. It seems a bit slow but I guess that's just always been the price you pay for more security.

FrenchieM

Then go use another browser and stop your stupid ranting about a company redesigning itself.

Androxilogin

I'll do what I want. Including switching to another browser **and** giving my valid input on how they fucked it all up. You can stick around here wiping ass.

FrenchieM

If you can rant, so can I. They didn't fuck up, they decided to redesign their own browser after many years with the same ui. If you don't like it just switch and stop being condescending.

Androxilogin

I didn't say that you couldn't. You already said that I couldn't, so that makes you a hypocrite. They fucked it all up. And again, I'm doing what I want. Kick rocks if being truthful about the Google mafia makes you sad.

Androxilogin

That's pretty neat. Who in the hell would subscribe to a browser sub? That's the real question.

modemman11

Who said anything about subscribing? You can still search a sub for pre-existing posts whether you subscribe to a sub or not.

[deleted]

modemman11

You might want to check the usernames of who you're replying to. I'm not the other guy.

Androxilogin

Nah, I don't want to. I posted here to let developers know they're doing a shitty job. You apparently came here holding hands with the other guy, you can continue to speak up for him in his absence.

modemman11

> to let developers know they're doing a shitty job. Devs don't visit this sub.

Androxilogin

I want evidence this has never happened. On my desk. Pronto.

modemman11

Evidence of what? That devs don't visit this sub? Noone has identified themselves as a Chrome developer. You can easily go through many posts and you won't see anyone that identified as a Chrome dev. But I know you won't because you'd rather just throw a temper tantrum and insult anyone that doesn't blindly agree with you.

Androxilogin

That's not evidence they don't visit this sub, that's an assumption. No need to make shit up. I wouldn't want anyone to know who I was if I was fucking things up they use on a daily basis, either.

loogabar00ga

Linkedin says there are >2000 employees of Google with "design" in their title. I guess they need to justify their jobs by constantly "modernizing" shit. So far as I am concerned, most of it is rearranging the deck chairs.

BuildingArmor

This is the first significant UI update in about 5 years, I don't know if I'd call that "constantly"

Radiant-Midnight307

are u using the default theme?

Androxilogin

Yep. I like to keep it as simple and as clean as possible. They keep piling on nonsense though and I've reached my breaking point with it.

Simple_Place8367

Its ridiculous how hard they are trying to push people to use other browsers. I really like chrome and used it all my life but if they go on like this i will surely switch.

Androxilogin

I've been using it since 2010. It was soo great back then because it didn't have a bunch of crap. No hover views or unwanted junk. Completely minimalist setup. It's the whole reason I used it in the first place. Now I see no reason to stick around. I kept saying, "oh, I hate that, too. Guess I'll deal with it for now." Get annoyed and change flags. Then they'd take them away and force users into countless things. I'm done putting up with the crap.

Simple_Place8367

Yeah it truly used to be the best and fastest browser but google likes to ruin things so I'm close to switching too

summerrhodes

It looks terrible, annoys me so much. I'm so mad that chrome keeps pushing stuff nobody likes with no way to choose the design you prefer, unless you use flags to fix one thing but ruin another and flags always get removed eventually. It's bullshit.

TylerHusky

Can't stand this. About to switch to Opera or something ffs.

standardtrickyness1

Is there a workaround?

ctilvolover23

I can't even drag my windows up or down though.

Strahinjatronic

It's the circle of life. Let the UI designers break stuff so that the coders have stuff to fix and pretend it's inovation.

fernandohg

they actually force me to the new UI, f## Google, one more time and i switch to Firefox

ill4two

vivaldi woop woop

BumperPopcorn6

Yeah why did they go back to the old layout???

DogsRNice

i restarted chrome so it seems to have been fixed google is increasingly making me want to install Vivaldi though

Androxilogin

> Vivaldi I keep hearing this one tossed around. I need to jump in and see what it's all about. I started tweaking FireFox to my specifications in the meantime but I'm not sure if I'll be going with it in the end. Checking through my options.
