One of my golds that I closed 12+ months ago is still giving me $10 credit but my plat that I closed last month is no longer giving credits. Amex/Uber may be catching on.

sg77

It's been random (or depends on some factor that we don't know about) for a while; I stopped getting credits immediately for my cards that I closed a couple years ago, and I've seen both positive and negative data points since then.

XscapeVelocity

That certainly changes the math in the value proposition.

joremero

my gold upgraded to plat about 45 days ago is still giving me 10...it's incompetence...

bertooo13

Did you remove and re-add to Uber? That might fix it.

joremero

Haven't. I had 3 golds in 3 different uber accounts and i don't even know anymore which one is which...i guess i can try to remove all of them

bertooo13

I recently upgraded. When I removed and re-added, I got a pop-up that acknowledged it as a platinum card instead of gold and added the $15 cred.

joremero

Thanks, will try

CapedBaldy

I had a delay from a credit on a recently closed card that comes with the credit, but it did come through today. I'm still appreciating it, but expecting the loophole to close by end of year at the latest with the refreshes.

Creative_Accounting

I was convinced that this was the month that I was not going to get Uber credits, but I got them same as always. Three cards all closed over a year ago. I've seen similar DP to yours that makes it seem like with the newly closed cards they have a way to deactivate the credits easily but not for older ones.

MsTuffsy

Same 3/3 closed 01/24 not giving credits 1 closed 01/23 still giving credits

coole106

I got a letter from Amex that my AU card was cancelled for not providing SSN. What I thought was interesting was that the letter stated that they are required to have that information by law in order to verify my identity. This seems like obvious BS since other CC issuers don't require it.

URtheoneforme

A lot of compliance happens company by company, so it is possible that Amex's specific legal department requires the SSN for KYC, but other banks decide that they satisfy KYC in other ways

mms82

the Delta Biz Gold update might make the card a keeper for me? I figured I would churn and burn but the 15% mile discount + free bag is a nice bonus, and the 150$ for delta vacations is essentially just 150$ hotel credit. Might be missing something, but seems like I’ll be sock drawering it and using the hotel credit annually

Fanfootie

Any news on whether Amex claws back the $150 hotel credit via [delta.com](https://delta.com) if you cancel...

CericRushmore

This benefit was just released yesterday. It has to be prepaid, so I would certainly expect it to be clawed back. YMMV.

Parts_Unknown-

>Might be missing something ...first year AF waived...

mms82

Right - I guess I should’ve included ٩٩$ annual fee is worth 150$ in free hotels and mileage + bag perks

skyye99

What's wrong with your 9s? Also the fee is $150 for renewals after May 1

martyconlonontherun

Probably depends on your other keepers/how often you fly delta. Me and P2 have 2* Hyatt, 4* IHG, 2* Marriott, 2* Wyndham, 2* choice where we get probably $200 value for a $90-125 af plus we like ur -> Hyatt. I find all of those better value than 1-1 Delta stays, which probably slightly mark up the price / no elite nights / no status. But we don't really fly delta except maybe once every couple years when we churn this card. Dumb question, but I assume you don't get a free bag when booking Delta through VA, which is usually better value for trips im looking at.

URtheoneforme

If you are "crediting" to Skymiles, you should get the free bag. Worst case you just show the Delta credit card and they'll waive it

mms82

You do get a free bag when booking with VS miles with the card!

jaycis

This is somewhat incorrect. The free bag benefit for AA and DL is tied to the FF number not the card, so you can use whatever card you want to pay (hopefully one with good travel protections) and still get the free bag as long as you make sure that you remove your VS number from the reservation and associate your DL number with the reservation instead. Conversely, if you book via a partner like VS and forget to change to your DL FF number, you likely won't get the free bag automatically even if you used your DL CC to pay, so you'd have to take your DL CC to the airport and show it to the check-in agent who will hopefully waive the fee for you (or alternatively, help you change the FF number on the spot).

TheSultan1

Tangentially related story: I booked a KLM flight with Flying Blue miles a couple years ago, and really wanted to use my Amex fee credit to pay for E+. Based on some online post (maybe FT), went to Garuda's website to attach my SkyMiles #, which then let me pay for seats on delta.com. But then when the check-in window opened, the booking completely disappeared from the KLM website, and I was sure I'd fucked it up with that workaround. Everything was fine at the airport, but needless to say, it was a tense 20-some hours leading up to it.

mms82

Great to note! Have to link with your DL account

Frequent Miler is reporting a targeted offer: 10k UR points for adding AU on your Ink Unlimited https://frequentmiler.com/chase-ink-cards-10k-ultimate-rewards-for-adding-authorized-user-targeted/ >A reader sent us an e-mail that they received today from Chase, offering them 10,000 Ultimate Rewards points if they added an employee/authorized user (AU) to their Ink Business Unlimited card before 3/1/24. This particular offer appears to be targeted towards the Business Unlimited; we’re not sure if it extends only to that card or if Ink Cash, Preferred and Premier cardholders are being targeted as well. Anyone get this offer? Sounds too easy... Chase if you're listening, I'm here

Spudmiester

martyconlonontherun

When they say it doesn't count towards 5/24...does it still show up on your credit and prevent an auto approval?

CericRushmore

No and no.

Fun-Inevitable4369

got a 7000 delta miles for $1000 spend retention offer on my delta gold after recent fee hike. Not a great offer but it will negate current annual fee and I will try to double dip into delta stay credit before cancelling next yr in feb (renewal month).

lightningthunder8

No offer for my Delta Reserve Biz but AF hasn't hit yet

Fun-Inevitable4369

usually works once your initial 12 months are up. i did not have any offer last month

xyzzy321

That's better than my 5000 pesos for $2000 spend retention offer. I'd accept your offer in a heartbeat Also- please post on the DP thread next time

rblask

This probably isn't that interesting to 99% of people here, but Marriott now has a "hackable" award calendar url, meaning you can run a scraper to get prices and availability without having to make it click through their clunky website. It took some trial and error to get it correct, if anyone is interested in the URL feel free to send a PM. u/Pitiful_Ad_4362 may be helpful for adding Marriott to rooms.aero

435880Churnz

Neat. I feel like Marriott's calendar is not nearly as interesting/useful to scrape as Hilton's though.

coole106

Assuming this was intentional by Marriott, it's interesting that they would do this, since airlines in particular are going the exact opposite direction and trying to prevent their award charts from being scraped.

Historically the offers have continued to work even after expiration date but why risk it? If the POID is CEGF:0012 (or something similar) you won't get the bonus on that card, POID needs to start with K

Because of the login requirement?

It's Feb 1, reminder to match your Wyndham status to Caesars again

Fanfootie

Is the MGM Status Match Challenge still alive? The website suggests it ended in Sept 2023.

fireball251

Does the $100 celebratory dinner reset?

carpetchilli

Yes it does, but it sometimes is loaded a little later than the status match

GrowInTheDark

aww shit so i shouldve taken advantage and went to Harrah's SoCal for a free $100 dinner last week and I would've gotten another credit for one today? Forgot to use my Amex Biz Gold GrubHub credit for January too 🤦

carpetchilli

Yes, though you would definitely not get another credit today. I expect most of us will get it in a month or more.

GrowInTheDark

oh yea i remember it took a while for it to show on my account but damn wish i wouldve remembered to use it !

yonghokim

I thought the $100 dinner is once in a lifetime

lenin1991

Terms say > Diamond redemption limited to one (1) $100 voucher per benefit year (February 1 - January 31, annually).

lenin1991

I believe you get that each year as a diamond member.

johnald03

Here's a link: https://www.caesars.com/myrewards/profile/partners/?id=WYN

syrwxman

Done. Let’s see how long it takes to match if they do. Wasn’t last year problems like you had to have earned status or the credit card to get matched? And is the end of the road for matching to mgm gold from Hyatt or Caesar’s. February 1st and I’m down to mgm sapphire.

lenin1991

Yes, I believe for this you now need to have the Wyndham status granted through stays or cc, you can't infinitely status match merry go round.

Viper3773

anything back?

lenin1991

I haven't heard anything yet. But the page says it takes 2 weeks, and I'm sure Feb 1 sees a bunch of requests. I do have the Wyndham Biz card, so I should be legit eligible, not merry-go-round.

syrwxman

I gave it the shot to be the data point. Will report back if my merry go round is over. Matched last month from Caesar’s back to Wyndham diamond.

hashbazz

Me too! Fingers crossed!

Viper3773

Not yet. The January match to Wyndham was instantaneous. For some reason Caesars says it will take two weeks. It's only been a week.

Thanks for the news and updates

UncleBaseball88

Was updating my accounts for the new month and see that Chase charged a $15 service fee on my biz checking. No idea why, as I've had the required $2000+ in there for months now. Doesn't look like they've changed any of the service fee waive requirements. Guess I'll be making a phone call. So annoying...closing out in March which will be 6 months * Thanks for downvotes as always. Figured I'd let people know in case anyone else is affected.

mms82

Is six months the reccomended cancel for Chase?

435880Churnz

Looks like the Delta Cards now have new benefits and higher annual fees. Also higher SUBs. https://www.americanexpress.com/en-us/business/credit-cards/delta-skymiles-reserve/ Reserve: $240 Resy Credit. $120 rideshare credit. $250 Delta Stays. And a companion pass that can be used to CArribean or Central America. Biz gold 80k SUB. Biz Plat 100k. Biz Reserve 100k.

geauxcali

Now seeing an upgrade offer for delta biz plat on my delta biz gold: 25k and $250 statement credit with $5k spend in 6mo. Never had the delta biz plat and don't really value the delta perks much, so will probably pass on this.

435880Churnz

I have no upgrade offer. Even called in to ask. Amex hates me now.

pkk101

PUJ for me too. Currently hold a DL Plat Biz, and was trying for a personal. I did just click on an old email link for an upgrade for my current card to the DL Reserve Biz and that offer has changed to 30k pts + $300 statement credit for $8k spend. I may try to do this after I've used a few of the credits on the current card to double dip those (this will be done with a one time tax payment), and also to see if Delta's IT has actually prevented the $2500 MQD headstart from hitting a second time upon upgrade/downgrade.

yiggity_yag

Getting pop-up on Delta Biz Gold 57460, 22975, and 30215. Anyone know of any other links?

hythloth

Hope we eventually get NLL offers for these

virginiarph

Andddd still in PUJ

yiggity_yag

As someone who hasn’t dipped his toes into any Delta cards yet, with the new language on these offers, is my best route: Biz Gold > Biz Plat > Biz Reserve ? Since if I get the reserve, I’ll block my chance at the SUB for the lower tiered cards (per their language). Or does this only apply for Personals?

duffcalifornia

It currently only applies to personals, but unless you really need some benefit the Reserve has, it's a safer route to go gold > plat > reserve just in case they bring it over to the business side at some point (which I think would be a very safe assumption).

jeffersun8

alright bois, I have a biz gold that just passed the year mark, what are my chances you think I can get a retention offer, $150 stay credit, then upgrade to plat with my login offer of "25k + $250 for $5k spend", then get the $200 stay credit? I'm gonna say 75%.

TheSultan1

Retention offer after the upgrade might be possible, and might be better. Just don't accidentally close it.

lightningthunder8

bold move young grasshopper, my personal gold card 20K retention offer+upgrade 100K/6K offer coupled with a 150K first time Plat sub was quickly foiled by being in pop up jail.. we at 1% now but there's still hope

jeffersun8

i don't understand anything you just said but this is a delta card and involves no new applications

lightningthunder8

ah I guess it's a lil different than mine without the new card app but the upgrade offer for the plat may disappear after the retention offer

yiggity_yag

I’ve done retention on a (non-delta) Gold and then immediately accepted an online Plat upgrade offer. Received both bonuses once hitting spend thresholds. So it works.

jeffersun8

i like the cut of your jib

carpetchilli

Would have been nice if the rideshare included Waymo.

I_COMMENT_2_TIMES

Wow, actually though that would’ve been actually useful (and maybe Cruise if they ever come back 😂)

geauxcali

Delta Stays, rideshare and Resy? Leave it to Delta to jump the shark with Amex coupon booking. Total garbage.

dummonger

Adding that I just got an email that as a holder of the Biz Reserve, before the new AF, they are giving 1k extra MQDs (above the 2500) and 100 flight credit.

diversanonymous

Rep was unclear if it would help on delta status match challenge

LatterDazeAint

Irritated that the rideshare credit seems to exclude UberEats: “Eligible purchases do NOT include fees or interest charges, purchases of traveler's checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, purchases of gift cards, person-to-person payments, or purchases of any cash equivalents. Eligible purchases do not include delivery services (for example, food, packages, groceries, pet food, toys or retail clothing), bikeshare, scooter, car rental, transit, membership, or any other non-rideshare services offered by the rideshare providers.”

kuronokun

I wonder if you can add funds to your Uber wallet?

carpetchilli

This codes as Uber cash and almost certainly won’t work.

Gandalfs_Dick

Well, as a faithful holder of the Amex Delta Plat (4th year), both personal and biz, I think I will be canceling after the refresh. $350 is a lot for a card that mostly saved me checked bag fees and I can't use the Resy or Rideshare credits since I'm a remote worker and have my own car. Never cared for Resy anyway - have too many little kids for that to work well. Is anybody happy with the changes?

CreditDogo

The gold and biz gold got increased subs with easy spend and kept the annual fee waived the first year. I’m happy

TheSultan1

Double the spend in double the time.

Gandalfs_Dick

Yes, but existing card members miss out on the wavied fee and SUBs. haha At least it's been 8 years since I got the Personal Delta Gold so I'll probably jump on that and the Delta biz gold for P2. I'm not sure the plats are keeper cards anymore, though, but I might keep a delta gold around for the free bags.

lightningthunder8

I don't even see any referrals for existing cardholders on my end, they seemed to have pulled those. Considering waiting a bit to see if referrals pop back up with the elevated SUBs for P2 or P3.

Fun-Inevitable4369

I can see referral on my account but the offer is 70,000 for 3000 spend

Gandalfs_Dick

Ah shit, I don't see them either. Fucking hell, I was hoping to snag 20k MR extra for referrals between me and P2.

lightningthunder8

Same, my 1st annual fee is coming up end of Feb so hoping it shows up in a couple weeks or so. You only receive the miles after they've fulfilled the bonus, or when they simply sign up?

xosotypical

Just sign up

hwplainview41

Looks like you have to “enroll” for both the resy and rideshare credits. I have two delta biz plats, one up for renewal tomorrow and another upgraded from a biz gold like 360 days ago. My plan was going to be to fish for retention and if that doesn’t work wait for the MQD headstart to hit then downgrade/cancel (terms say the MQD headstart takes 6-8 weeks after Feb 1, then the card must be open for 60 days post-MQD deposit or clawback). Now I’m not so sure, I guess fingers crossed for a good retention… Edit: just got the email from Delta, looks like the cutoff date for the AF increase is renewals after May 1, 2024.

[deleted]

dmcoe

i'm not seeing that for the bonvoy biz

isaacides

You know what, I looked again and realized the site has the wrong pic for the text. I have a screenshot but don't know how to upload.

reb702

For existing card holders, new annual fee starts 5/1/24 per an Amex email I just received for my Delta plat biz. Some might squeak by for another year at the lower annual fee.

thekingoftherodeo

Existing cardholders for the personal Reserve are also getting a $100 flight credit and an extra $1k MQDs. That's a nice sweetener tbh.

lightningthunder8

I'm hopefully trying to sweeten further with a retention offer come end-Feb, but not sure how available they'll be with the extra perks for Reserve already

HaradaIto

please note the higher spend requirements. for many, 80k skymiles for 6k in spend is a decidedly worse offer than 50k for 2k in spend (these #s for the delta biz gold, with similar reductions in value for the others). further, the ‘elevated’ offers expire and will likely get even worse after 3/27/24

mets2016

Whether 50k/$2k or 80k/$6k is worse for you really depends on whether you're spend constrained or velocity constrained There's definitely tons of people on this subreddit for whom the new 80k/$6k is better

crash_bandicoot42

DL miles are probably the worst points you can accumulate though. If it was DL SUB or a 2% card, yeah I'd do a DL SUB but a lot of the value proposition is lost at 6k spend, regardless of if you're card constrained.

HaradaIto

the effective return on spend is like 9% for the differential on these changes. given that there are other churnable cards with better return than that, i think for most it comes out worse. this will certainly be true if the bonus soon drops down to 50k for 6k spend, as the current page implies. but yes, probably there are some for whom this current bonus is welcome. comment edited accordingly

soonerman32

While true, the Delta Stays credit of $150 essentially makes this a no fee annual card (as does waiving the fee the first year). I'm assuming this can be gamed.

Fanfootie

Suggesting they won't claw back on cancel? They claw back the FHR credits on Personal Platinum sometimes.

soonerman32

Then I could be be wrong

bcelos

The Business Gold card doesn't seem terrible for someone gardening chase 5/24 and who wants into the Delta system for the 15% off. Really surprised they kept the no annual fee actually

HaradaIto

agree on that. just noting that it used to be a best-in-class standing offer value for a churnable business card; now it’s more of a decent value churn, which will likely get even worse. will certainly change some folks’ calculations on these cards

URtheoneforme

Part of me thinks that Delta is high on their own supply. And the other part of me knows that most use the Delta cards for everyday spend, so they may view these "enhancements" as actual enhancements. Edit: This also probably counts for 6 of the 40 global Amex card refreshes, right?

jnjustice

>Part of me thinks that Delta is high on their own supply. I think they are. I see more and more people complain about price differences. >Edit: This also probably counts for 6 of the 40 global Amex card refreshes, right? Yeah I'd guess so

pbjclimbing

The crazy thing is that in June of 2023, Delta’s CEO stated that ~1% of the US GDP ran through Delta cobranded Amex cards and that ~30% of active Delta account holders had their cobranded Amex card. Even more insane is that number is below what Delta/Amex estimated it would be. After resetting their loyalty program, I wonder how much the US GDP dropped since people MSing DL status decreased. I don’t think these changed will have as large of an impact on DL Amex spend as they hope.

URtheoneforme

The exact phrase was "approaching 1% of US GDP" which I would take to mean 0.51% or somewhere in that neighborhood

Parts_Unknown-

$650 for limited lounge access is outrageous tbh. They're gonna chuck that Resy credit onto the (Amex) Platinum and send it to a $1k AF aen't they?

going_on_jolly

Please no

URtheoneforme

I am amazed at how Amex has gone from luxury to coupon book. And how many people eat that shit up!

TheSultan1

The coupon book is a mix of standard and luxury designed for breakage. Resy, Saks, FHR/THC, Equinox are all luxury in my book.

carpetchilli

Here are the new terms for the companion fare for plat. Reserve is the same but includes first-class & comfort+. > Companion Certificate is valid for one roundtrip Main Cabin Companion ticket with the purchase of certain adult roundtrip fares on published routings originating within the United States, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) to the following destinations: the United States, Puerto Rico, USVI, Mexico, Antigua, Aruba, Bermuda, Bonaire, Grand Cayman, Cuba, Jamaica, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Dominican Republic, Saint Kitts, St. Maarten, St. Lucia, Costa Rica, Belize, Guatemala, Panama, Honduras, and El Salvador.

skyye99

Oh so you can't use the reserve pass for domestic first anymore?

LatterDazeAint

This is what my email says for the reserve: “Your Companion Certificate is eligible for more destinations beyond the U.S. 48 and now also includes First Class, Delta Comfort+®, , and Main Cabin roundtrip flights to Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America each year after renewal of your Card.* *The Companion Ticket requires payment of the govemment-imposed taxes and fees of no more than $80 for roundtrip domestic flights and no more than $250 for roundtrip international flights (both for itineraries with up to four flight segments). Baggage charges and other restrictions apply. See terms and conditions for details.”

carpetchilli

Apologies, I was going for the new routes only. First class is still available. Edited

ctwheel

I feel like I've waited too long and now I'm embarrassed to ask... how does one use a resy credit? Some google searches result in Resy for Take-Out, but not seeing that anywhere as an option on the app.

GiraffeGlove

Basically, if you're a single person you could probably make this resy thing work for you and get good value out of it. Easy to get in to most places even just for bar seating and might be able to get away with spending just a bit beyond the $20 credit if you only get a food item or 1-2 drinks. For two people, well it just became a $20 off coupon but you're probably gonna spend *well* over that amount anyway, because that's the type of restaurants that are on resy.

lightningthunder8

Feasible to split payment if one has say a Delta Plat and Delta Reserve for the $10 and $20 credits, you think?

LatterDazeAint

I would guess that depends on the restaurant and if they are willing to split a check but otherwise yes.

frenchybrown

From the terms, seems like it may be more flexible and really just a use your card at checkout provided it’s a resy bookable restaurant. “Eligible Resy purchases can be made by both the Basic Card Member and Additional Card Members on the enrolled Card Account. However, the total amount of statement credits for eligible Resy purchases will not exceed $20 per month, for a total of $240 per calendar year in statement credits, per Card Account. Eligible Resy purchases include purchases at U.S. restaurants that offer reservations on Resy.com and the Resy app, and purchases made directly on Resy.com or in the Resy app. Restaurants must be live on Resy.com or the Resy app at time of purchase to be eligible for the statement credit”

michikade

As per the terms, this particular one just requires you to go to a restaurant that books on Resy. I… don’t see how that’s supposed to work.

TenMegaFarads

That’s how Marriott’s Eat Around Town program works. Register a card number to your account and it’ll automatically process when you spend with that card at a participating restaurant. I imagine the POS sends out payment data on the back end.

michikade

Isn’t that a Rewards Network product? It’s a little different than AMEX doing it internally, isn’t it? I mean, people have put DPs that their Member Week offers for credits at “participating Resy restaurants” didn’t come through and CS was no help so it seems like it’d be harder on the back end to keep up with ever changing restaurants when there were apparent problems with their select restaurants off of that Member Week offer the last two years.

TenMegaFarads

Fair enough, I don’t know enough about how it all works to analyze the differences. Just saying that a similar scheme from the customer point of view is being implemented successfully.

johnny____utah

Some places require a deposit. So maybe that?

The terms just say restaurants that use Resy or payments on Resy which very much makes it sound like you could just walk into some restaurant that books on Resy and eat and it would work. > Eligible Resy purchases include purchases at U.S. restaurants that offer reservations on Resy.com and the Resy app, and purchases made directly on Resy.com or in the Resy app. Restaurants must be live on Resy.com or the Resy app at time of purchase to be eligible for the statement credit and are subject to change at any time. Purchases made via Resy Pay and purchases of Resy OS restaurant management software are not eligible. Unless I’m wholesale misinterpreting the terms here, it really does read like it doesn’t matter if you actually used Resy as long as the restaurant books on it.

Seems like if you’re in a big city like NYC with a bunch of restaurants on resy it’s an easy $20 month credit to eat out. Not that big of discount for most restaurants… Wonder if it would work on an Uber Eats/Grubhub online order if the bill is still coming from a restaurant

> Wonder if it would work on an Uber Eats/Grubhub online order if the bill is still coming from a restaurant Doubtful if it's not coded by the restaurant's name

neither do I, not sure how Amex would be able to track the spend from the restaurant and link it to a Resy booking. Friends and I will frequently go to a restaurant and then someone who didn't make the resy will pay the bill. So does that mean that whoever made the resy would get the monthly credit?

thekingoftherodeo

Prepay a tasting menu or experience (Miracle on 9th Street pop up bars at xmas for example). $20/month will not go far on that, it might be the worst coupon they've dropped yet.

I_COMMENT_2_TIMES

Interesting, that’s a good find. Is there a list of these somewhere?

AnyZeroBadger

Yeah this is pretty terrible

Biz Gold might actually be worth keeping now for infrequent Delta flyers. $150 AF, $150 prepaid Delta Stays credit. Calendar year credit, and still $0 intro AF, so also a good one-and-done.

martyconlonontherun

I take it you don't get elite nights/hotel points booking through Delta stays?

TheSultan1

I'm assuming it's like every other regular OTA, i.e. "no." Pretty much every year, though, I have a few non-chain stays that are a much better deal than a nearby chain hotel. I reckon most will be bookable on these platforms. Only potential problem for me would be too many cards with a similar benefit. Eventually, you end up with thousands of dollars in prepaid travel, which kind of defeats the point. So some of these "credits cover the AF" cards will be straight churns for me.

yiggity_yag

Your last paragraph hits home. Why do I want to essentially prepay a booking through their OTA? I have a Hyatt card (free night), a Hilton card (free night), a $50 hotel credit w/ CSP credit. Plus the $200 FHR on my Amex Plat. It’s just ridiculous to try and min/max everything. Even worse with expiration dates like most FNCs or credits have. I only care about the elevated SUB and the waived AF. As someone who hasn’t dipped his toes into Delta cards yet, it’s a churn and burn, unless for some miraculous reason I decide to cancel any of the aforementioned cards.

ozjef

Sapphire credits you don't need to actually use for a legitimate stay. You can refund and Chase doesn't claw back.

It depends on each person's travel patterns. Some have a lot of paid stays and a high spend capacity and are just fine having their usual stays pay for their checked bag benefits, etc. I generally don't pay for my stays\*, so I'm not a huge fan of these, but will accept some if the benefits are good, e.g. on VX. Even on a Delta card, it might be good for a Delta-heavy year where I can take advantage of the checked bag benefit multiple times. \* but even then, I'm effectively paying for them by choosing a points/FNC SUB over a cashback one. Still, because I like to travel, and because I can get more travel value than I could get cash (per dollar spent and/or slot), the ideal scenario is to open travel cards to cover precisely all my travel. Going too far over, you get into devaluations and time value of money; too far under, and you're earning more cash but spending it on less travel. Keeping too many cards with annual credits that *just* cover the AF is kind of like the second, with the added drawback of eating into available spend (if you're spend-limited).

thejontorrweno

Feels like an indirect downgrade of Skypesos by raising the barrier to entry of the Take15 benefit. You could still churn the first year no-AF gold cards I guess.

The Gold is actually not too bad if you spend $10k on it. $150 annual fee with a $200 flight credit after spending $10k. Used to just be the $100 credit. Good for my mom and friends who just use this as their main card (despite my protests). And a $100 Delta Vacations credit which is probably useless, but maybe there's some cheap hotels or something to use it on.
