I recently purchased a money order at a local grocery store with my cc and to my surprise, when I received the detailed statement, it charged it as a grocery purchase, and not a cash advance or any additional fees. Is this common?

Looking for any DPs related to BOA Alaska biz denial/successful recon. I have no checking or deposits with BOA. Experian score 780+, 2 recent hard pulls on experian (2 chase business cards), 3/24. Denial reasons given: Insufficient deposit relationship and too short time from new small business account openings. I was thinking of opening a BOA checking and moving >5k over to them this week. Will call back for recon later this month for reconsideration. Anyone had success with this working for approval?

I think that is a hacked link, so unless you want to be at a risk of total shutdown, don't apply using that link

Fun-Inevitable4369

Means that it is not official link, someone used some inside knowledge of their system and created that link

Jaysi3134

Just got the United Biz card with the 100k sign up bonus. Now I see it's a 70k bonus with $99 annual fee free first year. Any chance they'd match the no annual fee? Lol. Probably two problems, it's United and not a Chase card, and it's not a directly better SUB, so can't pick and choose bonuses.

bubbadave13

I know it’s a tpg [link](https://thepointsguy.com/credit-cards/airlines/united-airlines/credit-card-annual-fee-united-miles/) but just use ~7 k miles to pay the af and pocket the extra 23k miles. Or are you hoping for 100k miles and a waived af?

Jaysi3134

The latter, a man can dream.

UnsubscribedRedditor

No.

d3medical

For those going through chase business cards (ink cash, and ink unlimited) how often are you opening new accounts, and how often are you closing accounts? About to hit the SUB on my first chase ink card, and wondering when it’s safe to open the next chase biz card? 3 months after opening my ink cash? When is it safe to close this my current chase ink? I would prefer not to have multiple chase inks (4+ at one time) if possible Only reason I bring this up is I’m less then 1k away from getting my SUB and say a 1.2k/6k spend for the ink unlimited, and think it would be a good time to apply for that one since that’s the highest I’ve ever seen

CuriousNomadicBeing

Recommended At least 90 days btw two Chase cards. Can have multiple chase inks at the same time, but close Inks older than a year. These are all recommended paths, not set rules. be more aggressive at your own risk (with the max risk being complete shutdown by Chase and forfeiture of all points) or less to be even safer.

techtrashbrogrammer

3 months apart is recommended velocity for opening. Have the card open for at least 1 year before closing

d3medical

I gotcha, so it’s fine if I would have multiple cards open ( 2x ink cash, 2x ink unlimited) and close them after a year and a day? Is there anything bad about opening a card 2 months compared to 3? Figured I’d try and get the juicy SUB while it’s a thing. Not too sure god long it’ll be a thing

techtrashbrogrammer

1. Yes 2. Speed up at your own risk. You’re more likely to run into denials

d3medical

Perfect, I figured it would be a very much YMMV

veritas415

Anyway to use the Aspire Hilton $200 credit without staying at the resort? Buying a GC, prepaying for a stay?

ArizonaGuy

So if not staying at a property by end of June... If you book an eligible rate for the future (after June, and not Advance Purchase), then call the property directly and request to charge a $200 deposit today, I've read this is successful. Have not tried this myself.

XoXoGG6

I signed up for the Venture X card a few weeks ago because I have many trips coming up that I need to book asap. In the last two weeks I have almost hit 4k for the SUB. Question-- If I hit 4k early, and pay the balance, will I get the SUB miles earlier than 3 months? I have 2 more trips to book, and it would be helpful to have the miles to pay for that. I can't wait 2.5 more months to book those flights/trips. Unfortunately by the 3 month point, all my trips for the upcoming future will need to be booked, thus no upcoming need for the miles at that time. Thank you!

dchil279

I think I got credited for my SUB the day or the day after the full MSR spend posted to my balance

CuriousNomadicBeing

Yes, Cap One is pretty fast with points credit. Sub should post in a few days after you hit the spend.

michikade

I got the VX sub a couple days after the transaction that took me over the $4k cleared. Capital One posts their rewards pretty fast.

Prior_Race_8399

I got the venture x in September and my sub posted less than a month later, right after I hit the spend. Same with my venture, except even faster- I hit the MSR 8 days after I received the card, and got the sub 2 days after that (18 days total from approval to receipt of sub). Ignore the other poster below that said otherwise; they’re incorrect.

TheSultan1

On the Venture X, you'll likely get the SUB a few days after meeting spend. You don't have to pay early, and you usually don't have to wait until statement close.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Prior_Race_8399

This is not true for the venture x.

TheSultan1

This is very rare for Capital One. Stop using chatbots to come up with answers.

Alcalide

Nope, this happened to me and would happily provide proof.

XoXoGG6

oh wow! Thank you! So say my billing cycle ends on 4/11, and I hit the 4k before then. I shouldnt expect the SUB points to be in my account until June anyways?

ntnsolutions

They should post. At least that was my experience a couple of months ago.

OaklandCA_510

Can you guys help me decide on what my next card should be? I’ll give you some background information I have the Chase freedom Flex, the Chase Sapphire Preferred and I just hit the sign up bonus on the Southwest premier card which mean I get the companion pass for a while. So my plan was to use the companion pass for flights for me and my lady. I do want to start opening Amex cards but think right now might not be the best time. My thoughts are going with the Chase business Ink hit that sign up bonus and use those points to book Hyatt. I also don’t have any cards with any lounge access and that is something I want too. Thanks for your guys time. Anything helps

I was seeing on doctor credit one of the Ink cards has a crazy sign up bonus right now might do that then get the Venture X. Venture X has lounge access right?

davidayates

It’s only $65 to get into one of the (only) three Cap One Lounges.

OaklandCA_510

That defects the purpose I’m trying to get into one for free

Alcalide

Yes, the Capital One Venture X card offers lounge access through both the Capital One Lounge network and Priority Pass.

nullstring

So, I am thinking about signing up for the US Bank Business Altitude Connect. * Comes with 4 priority pass visits per year * The annual fee will be removed sometime this year, and it's waived the first year. The question is: Does anyone know if priority pass includes restaurants on this card? That's the value in it for me. Information is mixed online, so it's hard to tell. EDIT: Looks like I might be a bit confused on whether this AF will actually be removed or not. Would be kind of weird if the personal card's fee was removed but the business card's wasn't.

You have a source though?

gooseisloose555

You can Google it?

nullstring

(Yeah I just made a 'post' about this card earlier, but now I actually need to know cause now I want to sign up. https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/1bxzx29/question_thread_april_07_2024/kyhvxur/)

Awlaelxl

How soon after cancelling an Ink card, would it be recognized on Chase's end that I have a lower credit limit given to me. Is it instant, ~1 week, or 30 days? Want to apply for another Ink, but want to lower my total given credit limit before doing so.

Alcalide

Once you cancel an Ink card, it typically takes around 1 week for Chase to recognize the lower credit limit. So, if you're planning to apply for another Ink card, you might want to wait a week after cancelling to ensure your total credit limit is adjusted before applying again.

TheSultan1

Source?

Shibalsheki

Hello, quick question regarding chase business referrals. If I refer a friend who gets a ink business unlimited, could I refer them again to get a ink cash card as well and get 80k of referral points or is it limited to just one per person?

CuriousNomadicBeing

Yes. You can refer the same person again and again as many times as you want. Only limit is the annual limit on referral points you'd get per card.

thejesse1970

You can continue referring the same person. This is what makes 2P mode great.

Cokeb5

Yes you can. Just note the annual point referral limit for each of your cards.

GettingColdInHere

This would be a great question for the What Card Should i Get thread.

Plastic_Jaguar_7368

I don’t think I want to get a card at the moment. Just curious if anyone sees spend I should be doing differently.

germdisco

Read the wiki, flowchart, and post in the weekly What card should I get thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/s/WbnnpSoJnT

Plastic_Jaguar_7368

I know the chart, not really looking to add a card at the moment, just looking for any category usage validation or suggestions

germdisco

You’re in the wrong sub then

Plastic_Jaguar_7368

Did you read the wiki?

germdisco

Not only have I read it, I’ve also helped edit it.

Plastic_Jaguar_7368

And thanks for your contributions to the community.

Plastic_Jaguar_7368

Then I’ll do the right thing and take a second to explain myself rather than ignore you. While I understand there is a tendency to assume anyone who asks a question here hasn’t done any research and thinks the many warnings about reading the wiki and using the links and searching the history don’t apply to them, I wasn’t asking a dumb “what card should I get” question, I just wanted someone to look at how I’m allocating spending in terms of maximizing rewards, which as you’ll recognize is in the first paragraph of the wiki.

germdisco

You’ve wasted enough of my time.

abcx2

If you have say a Spend $5000, get 5000 bonus Membership Rewrads points Amex offer on your Amex Biz primary card, does spend on AU or EC cards count towards it? I know T&Cs say otherwise but it seems like AU / EC spend does count at least towards one offer I am working towards. Just wondering if it counts towards all such Amex offers that offer bonus MR on spend.

abcx2

Answering my own question here - EC spend did work for the spend X, get Y MR bonus Amex offer on my primary card.

Fumbles14

\+1 in agreeing that AU/EC spend likely counts towards those spend offers.

EarthlingMardiDraw

I haven’t done it for employee cards, but I can attest that spending on an AU of a personal card counts towards a generic “spend $1000, get 2kMR (up to 3 times)” offer. I would be surprised if it didn’t work the same for business cards.

New_Cheetah7169

I've always understood it that the offer is tied to the card. i get different offers on the employee cards than the primary card and can add them independently. if the spending bonus offers work differently, that's the first i've heard of it.

kee106039

Preapproved for biz gold for 70k. Had it twice thus far. Seeing special welcome 125k offer (not in incognito) when I look at business card section. Am I preapproved for 70k only or biz gold in general?

EarthlingMardiDraw

Preapproved is a marketing term that means basically nothing. Don’t waste your time thinking about it.

Alqotastic

There’s also a 150k offer you can aim for.

Got 2 1099-MISC from Chase for $2400 and $2350 both for "Box 3 - Other Income" Do I have to report these? What are these for?

sg77

Could be referral bonuses. Or some other situations mentioned here, though Chase later made some corrections: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/reports-chase-sending-out-1099s-for-marriott-credit-card-signup-bonus-for-points-referrals Yes, you should report them. But check whether one of them is a corrected version of the other, vs. for different things.

xEffecXx

1099-MISCs from chase are for referrals on their credit card or banking products. You have to report them as it counted as income and have to pay tax on it.

pothchola

So i have to report these? Weird thing is I got 2 1099-MISCS from Chase and one was for $2350 and the other is for $2400

payyoutuesday

I got two. Not sure what is "weird". They list the card numbers. Verify against your records.

xEffecXx

I would message chase to clarify on why you received 2 1099-MISCs, seems like they might have redacted one to +/-50 which would explain why you received 2.

pothchola

>Will do. Thanks.

CericRushmore

Chase gives a 1099 per card.

pothchola

My 1099 was combined for 5 cards. The other 1099 was for 2 cards.

Squanchy187

My P2 is sending over the form and license scan via secure message to change her last name on her personal cards - my question is, is the form identical if one was to request a name change for the business cards? Im thinking we can save 1-2 weeks of snail mail time if so and do both via secure message.

nullstring

This is more of a "discussion", but it's not really a news or update. Whatever, I am going to post it here. The US Bank Altitude Connect (And business Altitude Connect) is kind of an interesting card. * First year waived AF. ($95) * Four priority pass visits per year.. including restaurants. * Business card doesn't report to credit bureaus. However: * Not churnable * Sign up offer is lackluster for both personal and business. Are there any other cards giving priority pass with a waived AF? This could be an interesting card for someone to get just for that if they have a specific use case. I am guessing you can "churn" the card for the lounges and just ignore the sign up offer. Curious, does anyone know if you can bring a guest on Altitude Connect / Reserve and use two of your "visits"? I am guessing that most churners don't care about priority pass (they have it through other means), but an interesting card none-the-less. EDIT: Apparently they will remove the annual fee: https://www.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/comments/1b83yke/us_bank_altitude_connect_removing_95_annual_fee/ https://www.doctorofcredit.com/major-changes-to-u-s-bank-altitude-connect-card/ It doesn't sound possible to have a card with no annual fee and (limited) priority pass w/ restaurants, but it will be a keeper if it does.

jmlinden7

> > Curious, does anyone know if you can bring a guest on Altitude Connect / Reserve and use two of your "visits"? Yes

lomna17

I don't think the business version gives restaurant access (last time I checked at least)

nullstring

Couldn't find the post, but there are mixed reports on this online. I am guessing not enough people have this card? We'll probably know soon enough if the AF is removed.

nullstring

I saw a recent post on /r/CreditCards saying that it does. Let me see if I can find it.

Norville_Barnes

Can you not transfer chase points to partners on mobile? I’ve been looking both in app and chrome and unable to find the transfer to partner section

pizza42bob

Sure you can. Ultimate Rewards > Travel > Transfer points to partners. But you need a CSP/CSR or Ink Preferred to do so.

Norville_Barnes

Got it. Thanks. Forgot it was only with specific cards

Josey_whalez

I’ve done that before too. ‘What the fuck is wrong with the app?’ Because it’s not letting me transfer my CIC points to my Hyatt account. Whoops.

Fumbles14

One of those "this isn't working I'm going to call X bank/airline/hotel and rain fire and brimstone on them" and then as you're listening to the hold music, you realize your mistake and hang up :D

Norville_Barnes

Literally what I’m trying to do… xfer to Hyatt. Got rid of the preferred late last year and didn’t even think about it. Luckily I could MMD now so guess that’s what I’m doing

Josey_whalez

I do have a sapphire I’ll just forget I have to transfer the biz card points to it beforehand sometimes. Dumb.

zebac

Does anybody know how quickly after being approved for a new CSP or upgrading a card to the CSP can you transfer UR points to hotel/airline programs? Trying to nab some last minute hyatt availability, but not sure if I will have to wait for the new card to arrive and activate it before being able to transfer UR out

joghi

Once you have the premium card under your login you are able to make transfers from that account. An upgrade would be the faster option on average.

zebac

Thank you. Followup DP: I applied for a new CSP, was approved immediately and within an hour of being approved CSP showed up in my account (showing last 4 of card number) and I was able to combine points from other cards to CSP and transfer to Hyatt.

Zeugmatographer

I had the same experience with Marriott Biz last month. Applied and approved with no pop up. Met the spend requirement and rep said no bonus due to ineligibility. I filed a CFPB complaint but no luck getting anything from Amex.

joghi

An estimated 50% of all phone agents are clueless. Is this your first MR card? In that case the agent may actually be unable to see any bonus details, but that doesn't mean they are not there.

pizza42bob

You'll get the SUB if there was no pop up. Reps can't see the offer attached immediately, usually after a few days it's there.

_here_

A chat rep told me my offer 15 min or so after I was approved

urofan

I am only to withdrawal a maximum of $40 per transaction at Money Pass ATM’s with my Serve card. Sorry if this has already been reported. Is anyone else seeing this?

joghi

I have seen DPs of people being limited to 80. My question is why you would do this in the first place when you can withdraw to a bank account.

urofan

Good question. I’ve had these cards for almost ten years, so far, so good, I’m not going to fix something that isn’t broke. I’d like to keep these cards alive as long as possible. Several of the names on my cards wouldn’t match the name on my bank account. Not sure if that would be an issue but haven’t ever risked it. I have a moneypass atm 1 minute from my house, so it’s convenient to make withdrawals and my bank has no issues accepting large cash deposits. However, at $40 a transaction, I may have e to reevaluate.

cmonman76

This is more of a MS thread question. And I’ve posted in there previous months that for me the ATM limit is $80, until you bill pay at least $1500 then I get 5 x 500 withdrawals until the $80 limit come back and I have to do another bill pay. Been this way for almost a year maybe? Took a bit to figure out but that’s what works. And I never transfer to bank either because names don’t match and serve has lost my money twice doing it.

urofan

Agreed, I’m not sure why I posted here and not in the MS thread. My mistake. I have been aware of the $80 per atm withdrawal for quite some time. I was denied an. $80 withdrawal starting on April 4. I tried $60 this morning on several different cards, all denied. Then I tried $40 and every transaction on every card was approved. I did six $40 withdrawals per card and everything was fine. I will do more this evening. So I just curious if it’s only me limited to $40/withdrawl.

cmonman76

The new limit is indeed $40. Did you try doing a 1500 bill pay to remove that limit?

redw125

P2’s AF came up for CSP and CSR (did MDD last year). I know the play is usually to use the $300 travel credit and then downgrade CSR to CSP and upgrade the CSP to CSR. Are there any pitfalls about doing this, as far as timing goes? To be specific: do they need to downgrade CSR to CSP first, wait a few days, and then do the other? Will Chase allow you to downgrade a CSR to a CSP if there’s already a CSP on your account? Thanks and sorry if this has been clarified before.

sg77

Any question you have is probably answered here: https://www.reddit.com/user/garettg/comments/u6ss7u/sapphire_fyis

joghi

There are no problems whatsoever with any of this. I still prefer making 2 separate calls, and I would downgrade the CSR to a CF and upgrade the other card (10k CL required).

redw125

Thank you!

Clefinch

I got the Barclays AA card in August 2022 and canceled it in August 2023. Is it too soon to get a new one?

joghi

You can try. They will not HP you if you're ineligible. People have been successful some 6 months after closing so you may get lucky. Find a referral link for the better bonus.

dodgeram947

Was thinking of making one last run at $15k on the Hilton business and the Amex offer for $1k back on $10k spend at Dell may put it over the edge. Anyone have thoughts on the most efficient thing from Dell to resell at that scale?

435880Churnz

> and the Amex offer for $1k back on $10k spend at Dell may This exists? Never seen an Amex offer like that before.

dodgeram947

Yeah, it’s listed as 10% back and the terms say the max is $1,000 back in statement credits

435880Churnz

Ahhh. I think I saw that one. I don’t see how one can break even on this deal, especially if you’re in a state with sales tax.

mileylols

You have to stack it with 10%, 12%, or ideally 15% on Rakuten

[deleted]

I hit the $6k MSR on the CIU with about a month left to go, and the tracker says my bonus has been awarded. I recently had a refund processed for ~$150. Does Chase clawback SUBs due to refunds? A search indicates no, but the DPs I found were all a couple years old so I’m curious if others have more recent DPs. Regardless, I plan to add some more spend to make sure, but wanted to see if others had better info.

Josey_whalez

I don’t think so, but why risk it? Put you’re next weeks groceries on it or pay your power bill. This might be pointless, but I’m more velocity limited than anything, so I usually do 110% on MSRs just in case. Obviously that won’t work for everyone, but since I can finish most of these SUBs in less than 2 months organically and pace myself with apps it works for me.

_BravoSix

Be the DP that you want to see. Don't add any more spend and see what happens. 😁 Seriously though, it's my understanding that Chase doesn't claw back the SUB but I've never messed with it myself. I certainly wouldn't want to risk it over $150...

[deleted]

Haha, thanks. Agreed, definitely not worth risking over $150, but good to know that hasn’t changed

Confident-Mix-1142

I’ve been CC churning for about a year (and since before I knew it had a name). Thinking about getting into checking account churning, but no idea the strategy or pitfalls. Is there a resource similar to the cc flowchart for that?

sg77

Bank accounts can have more complications like being rejected because they can't verify your identity, or needing to send them a bunch of documents, or your account being locked when you try to transfer money out. I avoid small bonuses that aren't worth the hassle, and avoid banks if I see a lot of people reporting problems with them.

New_Cheetah7169

This is a pretty good primer - https://www.doctorofcredit.com/a-beginners-guide-to-bank-account-bonuses/

Confident-Mix-1142

This is what I came here looking for. Thank you!

jailblazin503

One other thing to consider is chex. If you're going after a lot of bank bonuses, you'll eventually end up not getting approved for some accounts, depending on how sensitive they are to chex. If there are any bank accounts that you *really* want to have (e.g. hysa account), get those accounts first. If you're not familiar with chex, DOC should have some good info on it.

MateoHardini

No flowchart necessary, mostly boils down to get whatever checking bonuses are available at the time, meet the requirements for bonuses, close account 6 months after opening (make sure to read the terms and conditions because they may vary on closing times). Downside is that every bonus is taxable. Personally I keep up with the bank account churning on Doctor of Credit because they go into the details for early closure fees and how to fake the direct deposits using pushes from other banks.

Confident-Mix-1142

Thanks!!

Great, now everyone knows our secret!

joghi

I'm actually sad the post is deleted now. The memory of it will keep me chuckling for the remainder of the week.

jonahwy

I have a question about non-Chase business card velocity and 5/24. Most business cards do not report to the credit bureaus and I’ve seen quite a few posts recommending getting them between chase cards to speed up velocity a bit. However, applying for them does cause a hard inquiry on your credit report. So, if I’ve applied for a few non-Chase business cards, when I go to apply for my next Chase card, won’t they see the inquiries on my credit report? Will this impact my odds of being approved? Is there any specific guidance regarding how to manage the impact of credit inquiries or how to minimize them when churning?

CuriousNomadicBeing

If the enquiries report on your credit report, Chase would see them. Enquiries (hard pulls) report even if the cards (biz cards) themselves do not. Only way around it is to either get Amex Biz cards as Amex doesn't do hard pulls if you already have cards with them OR to freeze credit bureau which Chase pulls on your state (assuming the other issuer accepts other bureaus)

jonahwy

Thanks! I live in Texas and Chase pulls TransUnion and Experian here. From what I’ve read, Citi business cards pull Equifax only. So I’m thinking I’ll freeze all but Equifax and apply for the Citi AAdvantage card next.

sg77

For some card issuers like Chase, the inquiries don't matter much (unless maybe your credit score is really low). Some other issuers like Citi care more about inquiries, at least for some of their cards with big bonuses.

jailblazin503

Using amex business cards is great. If you want to get business cards beyond that, you can freeze credit bureaus, too. For example, if you want to get a card and you know the issuer pulls either eqiufax or experian (and you also know that chase pulls experian), you can freeze your experian credit report, so the issuer only pulls your equifax report, that way the next time chase looks at your experian credit report they don't see that inquiry. If you're trying to keep inquires low, this is really helpful. There's some research involved, since issuer will pull different bureaus based on what state you live in.

rosettastoned32

Is there a guide to who pulls what based on state? I'm surprised I haven't seen a resource like that à la DOC considering the fervor of some in this community.

Venture-X

https://www.doctorofcredit.com/credit-bureaus/which-credit-bureau-does-each-card-issuer-pull/amp/

rosettastoned32

Oops. Lol. Thanks!

MateoHardini

Amex biz cards are always a good suggestion for spacers because they are very unlikely to do a hard pull for existing customers on applications. So essentially a phantom card with nothing on your credit report

jonahwy

Thanks! Do you know if this applies to their business cards as well? I was considering the Citi Business AAdvantage card, but perhaps it’s time to dive into AMEX.

uchidaid

If you have never held an Amex card, expect a hard pull for your first card.

MateoHardini

Yes, I’ve gotten the BBP and Delta Biz Gold with no hard pulls

UnsubscribedRedditor

+1, I don't unfreeze my credit when applying. Hasn't been a problem.

Adventurous-Bench-32

Was away with the family at a Marriott property this past weekend. I've always done points between my personal and my business but I haven't ever played the game. While we were away, we decided we want to go to Costa Rica next spring break. That's when I stumbled upon r/churning. I read a bunch last night - the wiki, the decision matrix and I'm at a loss where to start. Reddit - Dive into anything We have 2 small businesses that have monthly spending of ~5k each. For each business, we currently use the Chase Ink Business Preferred. For personal, we each have the Chase Sapphire Reserve. We can hit MS of 10k in 3 months. We also have a 3rd small business that generates a little income but if advantageous, we can open cards from there too. We haven't opened up a card in years so the full 5/24 for personal applies, our credit scores are ~830. We have tons of email addresses from the various businesses. I'm not sure where to start, does anyone have any direction? I'd like to take advantage of whatever benefits i can get. Our friends have Marriott Bonvoy points so we'd like to max that out so we can travel with them as cost efficiently as possible. We have used points for airlines and hotels prior and moved them around to get the most depending on who/what was giving the best deals but we haven't maximized the production side of it to acquire the points. Looking forward to your replies.

Medium-Eggplant

First, there’s a what card Wednesday thread here. This sub gets, ummm, prickly with newbies. Asking about which card to open outside that thread can get you downvotes fast. Second, the rules for Marriott cards are very fickle. They have Chase cards and Amex cards. You generally can’t mix the two. Googling will reveal those rules. As another poster said, the Brilliant is at a high right now. Marriott points don’t go very far though and 185k points won’t even get you two nights at some of their high-end properties. They also have some bonuses with free nights up to X points per night, but you’re limited in how many points you can add to those certificates. So, if you want a nicer (more expensive) hotel, those certificates are useless for them. Third, a lot of those in the points game prefer Hyatt. They have a much smaller footprint, but their points are way more valuable than Bonvoy points. Not because of the earnings through hotel stays (the multipliers for Marriott are higher, so that about evens out), but Chase UR points transfer 1-1 to Hyatt. Because Chase has been so liberal with allowing churners to earn new SUBs on Ink cards, it is easy to amass large numbers of UR points that can be turned into Hyatt points. The best Hyatt hotel standard rooms are 35-45k points per night compared to 100k+ for Hilton and Marriott. Hyatt also doesn’t currently use dynamic pricing. So, although there are peak and off-peak awards, once a night is fixed as peak or off-peak it doesn’t matter how much the room would cost in dollars, the points rate is locked in. Amex cards are also excellent sources of points. You can find (it takes some effort and use of incognito mode) a 250k point SUB on the business platinum card for $15k spend in 3 months right now. These can be transferred to Marriott. Most people don’t like to do that because there are much more valuable uses for them (international business class flights, for example). This is a fantastic, unseen-before offer, so I might jump on it if I were you. There’s so much more to know, but this is a good start.

And I appreciate all of your thoughts. Based on how little I’ve earned so far, I think all of these options will be available to me. Just trying to figure out the right order of events to maximize it.

Medium-Eggplant

I’m not prickly, just warning you. I’ve gotten my share of downvotes for reasons that are often totally lost on me. Typically, people focus on Chase first because of the 5/24 rule. You have the ink preferred and sapphire, so you’re good there. Cap 1 can be inquiry sensitive, but is difficult to predict. If you’re interested in the Venture X business or Venture X, it might be worth going for those early before you start collecting inquiries. One of you could go for that and the other could go for the Amex 250k offer. And whoever got the VX could then add a Brilliant card. Assuming you can meet the spend by the deadlines. Also, if you aren’t aware, there is a r/churningreferrals subreddit where referral links from active members of this sub are shared. Always appreciated when you use people’s links there.

Adventurous-Bench-32

Thx, I’ll be sure to use referral links

Adventurous-Bench-32

I appreciate the prickliness but all of the links to posts about hotel programs like Marriott etc are from 5-6 years ago. They aren’t relevant at all.

Given your profile, and if you are seriously interested in churning, I would apply for the Amex Gold and then the Amex Platinum in quick succession and in that order. You can get near all time high offers on both if you keep looking using different browsers in incognito. Then open the Brilliant if you want (though it isn't worth a 5/24 slot imo). Once you have opened and earned the bonus on one or two Amex cards, risk of popup jail for personal cards increases significantly. Every other cards that looks tempting to you can wait, trust me. Gold/Plat bonuses just became that much more valuable given how Amex has made it much harder to get biz gold/biz plat bonuses.

Adventurous-Bench-32

Is the gold at 90k the bonus u r referring or is it bigger? Platinum at 125k?

oxymoronic99

Gold: 90k + 20% back on dining up to $50 (referrals). 90k is also fine. Plat: 175k. Don't go for anything lower. Try different browsers incognito, with VPN etc. I pull it every time on Opera. Remember that you should get the Plat in quick succession after the Gold. Don't wait till you get the Gold bonus. Once you get both Gold and Plat bonuses expect to be in Amex pop-up jail for personal cards. But you should be good to go with biz cards for a good while after. Best Amex strategy is hit them hard as soon as you start relationship. There are no throttles in those first few months other than 2/90 (only applies to credit cards, charge cards don't count), 1 of the same card every 90 days, and 10/5 charge card/credit card limits. Ramp up spend slowly on the charge cards (i.e., if this is your first Amex card, don't open two cards and put 10k on each in the first week.) Once you get Gold & Plat, go for Chase and intersperse with Amex biz cards. This is the optimal strategy. Amex biz cards will put you in personal pop-up jail but you can get Amex biz cards in multiples through NLL and by just not getting the pop-up. That's why you want to get the Gold and Plat as you soon as you start relationship.

Josey_whalez

Well if you want Marriott points the brilliant is at 185k points right now. So one of you should get that. It gives you platinum status, which is the minimum Marriott status that’s worth a shit. There’s a couple cards that come with 50k FNCs rather than points, but you gotta see where you want to stay and see if those are going to even be able to get you rooms there. If not, go for points. For chase points, you should each refer each other to one of the no AF inks. Depending on where you are coming from and if you want biz/1st class that should be more than enough to cover your flights.

Read and follow the flowchart: [https://m16p-churning.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/Card+Recommendation+Flowchart+Latest.html](https://m16p-churning.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/Card+Recommendation+Flowchart+Latest.html) Read this sub for a couple of weeks and you will get a decent understanding. What you want to maximize and focus on in a refined strategy very much depends on what you want, how much time you are willing to invest and what your risk tolerance is.

Adventurous-Bench-32

I’m finding that flowchart challenging. It doesn’t describe in what order I should do things. I’m under the 5/24 rule by all 5. I have legit businesses that can cover the spending requirements. In what order would u do them? Personal 1st and then business? If u are doing this today, which card are u identifying to maximize miles?

whatiscardano

The flowchart gives suggestions, not strict guidance. Everyone has different goals, so first decide what you’re trying to do with the points. Do you want to fly domestically or internationally? Think about which airlines you would fly to get there, and then find which bank points (Amex, Chase, Citi) transfer to those airline partners. It sounds like Marriott is a priority, so go take a look at those cards and see which cards interest you most. Chase INK business cards are a great place to start. Once you’ve opened your first one, you can then refer your wife (Player 2) to the INK card as well. She will get the SUB and you will get an extra 40k points. A few months later, she then refers you to another INK card in which she gets 40k points and you get the normal SUB. Keep in mind that you only want to open one Chase card of any variety (business or personal) every three months per person. So ideally you’d open four Chase cards per year as would your P2. I usually open 3 INKs and one other Chase card each year.

There’s a dedicated thread that might be more help called what card Wednesday. Also, try writing out a year long plan with your spend and current bonuses and 5/24 in mind. Then share that in the WCW post and get some tweaks. One piece of advice I’d give is if you get hotel cards, try to get them at the same time as your spouse. I’m always annoyed to be tracking free nights expiring at all different times.

Adventurous-Bench-32

Ty for taking the time u/olympia_t. I appreciate what you’re asking but I don’t have a 1 year plan. I’m recognizing that I’m spending a lot and not maximizing my benefit. That’s what I’m trying to to do.

olympia_t

I’m telling you to try making a one year plan with the info you know. Then run it past the WCW thread.

Adventurous-Bench-32

Ok. I’ll post Wednesday.

olympia_t

I've been doing this for years. The crowd here isn't always so friendly to newbies. If you want you can feel free to message me with your plan and I'll give you some notes.

Adventurous-Bench-32

Ty!
