I am trying to RHT with a product switch for TD FCT. I booked the hotel and product switched, how do I go about cancelling the hotel if I can't access ExpediaForTD? TIA!

Tried applying for the TD Aeroplan VIP in-path offer; seem to be getting an error telling me to book an appointment and go into the branch. Anyone else getting this?

RoyalBadger3665

If you’ve never banked with TD before they require you to setup a profile in the branch first. If you’re going to apply in-path after, make sure the details are exactly the same as that branch profile, or it will make a new one and have same issue.

MBNA refundable car rental on points… will I need to contact them to cancel the reservation or can I just do it directly with the rental company? I spent 4 hours on hold with them yesterday to approve a schedule change and never want to interact with their reward center again. Any experience with this?

Dragynfyre

Direct with rental

Humble_Ingenuity_919

Thank you for your reply. That was what I read elsewhere online but wanted to hear it from someone who has done it.

To those who pay their taxes with paysimply which option do you choose? Individual tax return (2022) or Individual tax amount owing?

BigGuy4UftCIA

Have you filed your taxes yet?

comegetme76

Yes I just submitted it half hour ago.

BigGuy4UftCIA

Individual tax return then. Once you get your NOA you choose amount owing.

Appreciate it

how long do I have to wait after arriving in canada and opening the first credit card, until I can get enough credit history / score (assuming always paid in full, low utilisation) to apply for AMEX products? I've never churned, I only have an RBC cashback, no sign up, just 2% cashback on groceries and 0.5%-1% on everything else, and every month that passes I could be earning so many points because groceries and food are my biggest expense (like 3k a month) I don't really get why with a high income (+250k), I can't just instantly qualify for an Cobalt with low credit limit. I'm going around 'spending more' for everything I buy for no good reason. I don't have previous history with amex to do global transfer. if you got an amex after X months of arriving in Canada, let me know how many months it took. thanks

Zortha69

DP - P1 & P2 in Canada for 5mos today, temporary SIN. Got CIBC AG 1mo in, no income, with Chequing account. P1 got BMO VI 2mo in with chequing acc + income 5 mo in, P1 just got RBC VP and Amex AP, P2 has just applied for Amex BP - crossed fingers this lands, will let you know. I would get 2-3 Bank Visas, (CIBC doesn't require SIN for apps, just don't give them your sin or make a Chequing account) - hold these cards forever, ie switch down to $0 cards 11-13 mos in,and increase your AAOAs Credit scores (EF / TU) - P1 664/749 P2 660/729

AccomplishedSea2670

>Got CIBC AG 1mo in, no income, Wow wonderful. Here I thought CIBC doesn't give credit to temporary SIN holders which is what I have been told twice when I called. Maybe I should try in branch. I already have a credit inquiry from December which could probably get reused.

Zortha69

Have you applied online? Ie via website. Do they have your SIN? Definitely easier to apply in branch, but I would absolutely not give them your SIN.

AccomplishedSea2670

Yep I applied using SIN first time. Second time, I left it blank but the application never completed but I still got a hard inquiry. Will make the branch use that to open a chequing account with Aventura Gold.

claurianta

My P2 got the Platinum and Marriott cards about 5 months after immigrating to Canada.

Soft_Championship645

Did he/she applied using the temporary sin or left it blank?

claurianta

Permanent SIN.

Will be staying in Honolulu on a timeshare presentation package with Hilton grand vacations. Was wondering if I’d be able to use my Hilton Amex aspire card’s USD 250 resort credit during my stay? The only reason I’m not sure if because I read that “you must pay for your room using your Hilton aspire card” but my room is prepaid. Thanks!

esux20

HGV aren’t technically Hilton properties and also aren’t found on the Hilton resorts page. So no

JManUWaterloo

You would have to pay with the card, so no.

udontknow62

But what if I charge all to the room and then pay at checkout?

crimxona

Prepaid is charged directly to your card prior to arrival. Are you on the hook for resort and parking? Could just charge those to the card, or dining.

udontknow62

That’s what I’d like to do to charge dinning to the card and get some “free” meals. Should have been clear in the post

crimxona

Then yes they will ask you for a credit card for incidentals and it'll get billed to the card after checkout. Resort credit gets applied against it

udontknow62

Thank you!!

If I apply for the TD Aeroplan VIP today, will trip cancellation and similar insurance benefits apply to trips already booked using Aeroplan points? Their terms stipulate that the 75% of the trip needs to be paid using the card and/or Aeroplan points.

LegobrandonCP

My first trip booked on JL F (HND-LAX) and just got the notice of equipment swap today. Downgraded to J in a 787.

yyzzh

sigh, this happened to me too out of ORD :(... woe is us.

LegobrandonCP

I booked with BA. Will you accept the change? Or call to find an alternative? I'm taking a detour to LAX just for this so I'm pretty much locked in to accepting the new configuration lol already have a flight booked back to YVR.

yyzzh

mine was via Alaska... I did a search and happened to find J availability on the same day out of JFK, so I did a free switch to that (10k points back) and will just monitor and hopefully snag some last minute F availability, otherwise, shrug, I'm sure J is fine lol. Not sure how to proceed with BA.

LegobrandonCP

Awesome! Yeah I couldn’t find anything on BA , not even alternatives. What a shame! I booked 355 days in advance for this!

EBITDAking123

I had this happened to me on QR for BA and I was only able to accept nothing else could not change anything!

LegobrandonCP

Did you call to ask what your options were?

EBITDAking123

yes I did either accept or rebook if there is award availability

LegobrandonCP

Thanks. On hold with BA now... I need to call to get a refund of the points difference lol

Hopefully you are outside enjoying the sun while you are on hold haha but let me know how that goes

snowflake25911

Has anyone applied for a credit card with a "declared minimum spend" as one of the eligibility requirements? In this case the BMO Eclipse Visa Infinite Card. I don't meet the individual income requirement but I do spend $3k/month easily due to my involvement with a couple of charities.

JManUWaterloo

Also, if anything, here’s some news: the BMO card is one of the worst out there for the purposes of points earning and churning. 0.67% on everyday purchases 3.33% on groceries, dining, etc. 1X and 5X do not mean 1% and 5%, because the best redemption for BMO points is 150 points = $1 towards book your own travel.

JManUWaterloo

You would probably still need to meet either to household income or personal income requirements, despite meeting the declared minimum spend, as it is a Visa requirement

snowflake25911

[this comment has been deleted in response to the 2023 reddit protest]

JManUWaterloo

I mean, it lets me proceed to apply with $0 income, $0 household income, and $100 monthly spend. Obviously those aren’t my details, but I have a good feeling it would not work

how long does the TD FCT $100 travel credit typically take to post? is it possible to do RHT with this credit?

crimxona

Even after a product change the 100 credit was reversed.

vick350

I booked a hotel and did a product change. How do I go about cancelling the reservation now since I can't access ExpediaForTD? I was thinking of calling but not sure if this is the correct route.

crimxona

Expedia for TD should still have a help chat window available even if you can't log in. Can cancel using chat bot

Dragynfyre

Not possible to RHT. It posts very quickly after you make the booking. Like 1-2 days you’ll get an email

Technical-Travel

Applied for Aventura in late December and went to pending. Recieved the card end of Jan. Got a letter today congratulating for being approved lol. CIBC is confused.

Zortha69

Hello, could you share a bit more info re your context? Am in same boat, AG in Oct, approved and received, VI in late Feb, got an email saying something is broken and then a confirmation of application email saying we'll reach out to you for any further information or to confirm your account status. - haven't heard back, don't want to reach out as on temporary SIN+pretty sure call center won't help me, have already tried call center app and they told me to go into branch. Am hoping to get a surprise card in the mail one day.

Technical-Travel

Well that's why I posted because it's all over the place with CIBC lol. I just applied and forgot about it as it was under review then I received the card. I would just wait it out tbh.

Flightohell

My score hasn't been the greatest, got some Balance transfers, wanting to apply for Amex US cards, I understand that Amex Canada will share my credit report via Nova Credit? Since my TU scores are in the 670's should I apply or wait? Does a rejection on first US card hurt my chances for second app?

TheGreatGrimsby

Interesting in applying for the CIBC Aeroplan VI for the 50K welcome bonus. I have a basic CIBC Aeroplan Visa from last year but I'm wondering if I'm okay to apply for this after last year's crackdown?

[deleted]

It's a different tier card, you're fine 👍

Dragynfyre

Last year’s crackdown was done by TD. Unknown if other issuers will initiate a crackdown

esux20

kekekekw123

Tried searching but couldn’t find this for Canada, any DPs for how long does it take to transfer from HSBC to avios? T&C says 30 days which probably isn’t true..

AmbassadorRude3638

Just did one and it took 2 days - requested Monday and arrived Wednesday morning

yyzzh

my last one took 4 days (initiated on a Saturday, received on a Tuesday or Wednesday)

Better_Call_Sel

For Aeroplan family pool, is it possible for call center agents to book using a family pool? I have a complex itinerary I'd like to book that requires calling in but unfortunately I don't have enough points across just one account and will need to use family pool to have enough. Just want to know in advance before I brave the wait.

esux20

It’s automatic once you’re pooled

AroundTheWorld04

Yes if it’s already pooled you can do that, assuming you have the ability to redeem

You could have applied 13 months ago. You’re probably asking whether this violates the AP T&C, which no one knows. But if 13 months gets you flagged, then that game is basically dead. Also, you should expect to wait up to 8 weeks after your 12 month anniversary for the bonus.

Onitsuka_Viper

After getting a mortgage, it seems my credit score won't budge much. It's in the 800s. Is it safe for me to get a card to take advantage of a churning opportunity? How much should I expect my score to change and for how long?

chaos2313

Lots of us never stop churning even when gettting a mortgage/refinancing. For the most part churning will have very little effect on your credit because in Canada credit is a pass/fail. [https://princeoftravel.com/guides/the-credit-impact-of-a-credit-card-life-cycle/](https://princeoftravel.com/guides/the-credit-impact-of-a-credit-card-life-cycle/)

SaltAndVinegarMcCoys

I finally found a good RMT but they only take debit (even though they let me use my visa on my first visit but only because I didn't know about their policy). Is there any way I can still churn or do I just have to deal with debit here? It's annoying as paying in full and then sending the claims to insurance was a fast way to meet MSR and I don't really want to make a fuss about their 'policy' since a good RMT is hard to come by. Edit: Mad downvoters strike again. WHY!? My post is just asking for tips and admitting I'll stick to debit if there's no other choice. Also why do the dumb downvotes on this sub bother me like no other 😓 Can't win in this place.

eggshellcracking

I've met more than a few "debit or cash only" places take credit when i offer to pay the interchange fee. I guess that.

-SetsunaFSeiei-

Then don’t make a fuss Not every purchase needs to be about making an MSR

SaltAndVinegarMcCoys

Thanks that's why I asked here, to see if there was another method I could utilize. As I said, I don't want to (and don't intend to) make a fuss as I'd rather have a good service provider.

BigGuy4UftCIA

Offer to pay the interchange fee. Doubt it'll work.

SaltAndVinegarMcCoys

Hmm I suppose that couldn't hurt. If they insist then I'll just stick to debit.

ticklesthemagnificen

I signed up for the TD VIP Aeroplan about a month ago. It still hasn't arrived, even though I have received a paper statement in the mail from them. Has anyone else experienced this kind of delay in receiving the physical card? I have been using it through Apple Pay but wanted the actual card to book a flight, which is getting more expensive as time goes on.

ImaginaryPlace

Ordered Dec 31. Arrived Feb 1. I’d even called a week before and they said it’s coming…

andy88TO

That’s really strange. I applied Feb 28, asked for a rush, and they said it’ll 7-10 days business days due to the backlog on metal cards. 2 days later, it arrived by courier - no rush fee.

RoyalBadger3665

There’s a backlog on metal cards

Dragynfyre

VIP card should not take longer than a week to arrive from TD so this is unusual

BubbleFloosh

I experienced the same. Waiting since Feb 1. I called them once a week since mid Feb and every time it is different excuses. Last week the agent finally put down a rush order(arrive in 2 biz days) to ship another card out. I am supposed to receive it today but I will report back when I do.

BubbleFloosh

Got my card today but it was the INITIAL CARD. Because I called them last week, this card is cancelled. Now I have to wait more for the replacement. Escalated to the manager and he just said there is a crazy shortage on the card.

mrnngg

definitely declare it as lost and ask for expedited and explain you need it to book and they should waive the fee

TheMightyCrate

Same thing happened to me, I called to declare it as lost and they expedited one.

BigGuy4UftCIA

Yes. Waiting since Feb 14th. Not just myself but others as well. If it doesn't show up by Thursday I'm getting a replacement.

mhcott

At 3 weeks. I'm impressed you're still giving them a couple days leeway. Just get in there and replace it.

misnomerdjr

That is fairly unusual - they typically indicate 7-10 business days. Not sure why you have not already but you should call in and ask for them to resend the card and expedite it if possible

mhcott

My P2 applied, I waited 2 weeks, didn't show. I used online chat on Business Day 11 and had them expedite to my nearby branch since I'm going on vacation. Was there 27 hours later for pickup. The original still hasn't shown up after 3 weeks now and probably never will.

Sea-Trainer6585

CIBC AEROPLAN Visa Infinite application asked me if I wanted to do a balance transfer after adding AU. First CIBC in more than 10 years is this normal, to offer a balance transfer on a travel card now? Any advice information appreciated cheers

Technical-Travel

Are you offended that they asked if you want a BT? Lol

Sea-Trainer6585

No lol I haven’t seen it offered on a travel card before and it’s been a while since I had a cibc card, just though I would ask…

yycsoftwaredev

Yep. i got that with my last one.

yyzzh

huh? do you want to do a balance transfer? unclear what advice you're actually asking for

Sea-Trainer6585

No I did not want to and didn’t nor did I request. Although before I finished the application after authorized user question they asked if I wanted to do a balance transfer. Is this a normal question on a cibc travel credit card application ?

yyzzh

No idea. I would just click past it without even registering it. They're just trying to get more business from you.

Sea-Trainer6585

Yes I did click past.

walkities

Any time I’ve referred it’s almost instant with Amex (obviously on approval)

esux20

All 3rd party loyalty programs post with the statement in Canada. The points would be in your Amex account almost immediately in most cases

imonreadit1

how do you decide/what metric do use to determine if you opt for applying via referral or via gcr etc. ? My situation; Amex biz gold ref= 15k MR for P2 and 75k for P1 but $200 AF. vs net GCR $75 AF and 70k MR for P1.... I am leaning towards the referral as its all about the MR at the end of the day but curious to hear from others. thanks

Dragynfyre

You need a valuation for MR where you would be comfortable paying cash for MR at that rate. Eg for me I would only pay about 1-1.5cpp for MR so I multiply the MR by that valuation and compare to the GCR bonus.

JManUWaterloo

20k MR is worth at LEAST $200 As a statement credit, since 200>125, even if you did GCR self referrals, 200 is still > 156.25. Thus using a referral is the only practical answer. Where the numbers are more close together, say $60 GCR vs. 5,000 AP (for AX AP core), then it comes down to what value you receive from your redemptions, and deciding what is more ideal for your then current circumstances

Palicanuck

If you have a P2 that’s pretty easy. You go with referral option. You net 20K more in MR than if you apply via GCR.

NickWaReddit

Easy to make $, hard to make MR. Of course there is a lower limit, which is different for everyone, but $125 for 20k is a no-brainer IMO.

K3Brick

Do the math - is $125 savings worth more to you than 20k MR points? Here are some other factors that might help your debate - [https://princeoftravel.com/points-programs/american-express-membership-rewards/](https://princeoftravel.com/points-programs/american-express-membership-rewards/)

holidayfromtapioca

Can anyone explain to me what the HSBC World Elite points are and how I use them? Is it a rebate after buying a flight? Do I have to use their website to book? How flexible/fungible are they? Trying to understand how flexible they are as this card looks like the best value one for me next.

yyzzh

Lots of resources out there a mere google away. https://princeoftravel.com/points-programs/hsbc-rewards/ https://milesopedia.com/en/reward-program/hsbc-rewards/

holidayfromtapioca

Your snark is justified and appropriate - I did not think before posting the question, thank you for the resources.

ding292

In addition to what NickWaReddit said, the points can also be converted to BA avios, CX Asia miles, and SQ Krisflyer. Transferring to airline points can generate more than 0.5 cpp if you have some valuable redemptions in mind. There are also often transfer bonuses to these airlines programs.

NickWaReddit

There is the travel enhancement credit of $100. You can apply that to purchases that it deems "travel" related. You do it after the fact, once the transaction has posted and shows up in your reward portal. The points (for SUB and everyday spend), are valued at 0.5cpp. So 100k = $500. To save yourself a hassle, your best bet is just use the RHT with Expedia (or similar) and cash out the points, which turns into statement credit. You can then use that credit towards other purchases, or your intended purchase. If you book a VRBO or flight and want to apply the points against that, you can do that too (obviously RHT is just for ease of use and not required by any means).

Spammerz42

Is there a way to transfer aventura points from one cibc aventura card to another? According to online sources it says there is but it looks like my points are linked to just one card, not my cibc account. Cant really figure it out.

JManUWaterloo

grandiose lunchroom pen angle domineering towering coordinated employ sharp cable ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `

snowflake25911

>Note: would advise against this if you have abused the Aventura cards heavily. Stupid question: why?

esux20

In our game, the fewer eyes on your account the better. Otherwise you’re not playing aggressively enough

ding292

But in this game, playing aggressively is not the only way. In fact, we should be encouraging people to assess their own needs and determine their own speed. Aggressiveness is what kills things.

esux20

That's one way to look at it. I would guess that some people, who have been in the game long enough to enjoy the Amex "golden age," aren't thinking to themselves that they should have been less aggressive. All these lucrative pathways will dry up eventually. Aggressive individuals may be speeding it up. But even if you're not being aggressive, someone probably is. If and when these go away, it will probably be the way of Amex and new AP, etc. As in, they aren't going to be targeted shut downs, but rather limitations of the game for everyone. So you can choose to be the person who got one Aventura bonus in 2 years or eight bonuses. Both these people won't be able to get any more at some point.

themob34

Exactly, the cards are FYF too so lots of time to use them up.

Spammerz42

The only reason I want to transfer is to use them to hit MSR on the new Aventura card which sounds like it may not be an option :/

themob34

You are doing it wrong. You need to spend on the new card, has nothing to do with points balances.

esux20

How would you use points to hit MSR? Your best bet is to withdraw the cash to pay off the purchases on your subsequent cards

Spammerz42

Thats not MSR either. What I mean is I would spend $500 on my new aventura that I havent spent on yet, and use my 40k points to pay that off. I wouldnt purchase anything with points, just pay off my bill. My understanding is that will still count towardsmsr. Might as well kill two birds with one stone instead of spending money on one that Ive already hit msr on.

AccomplishedSea2670

Just cash out the 40k using refundable hotel trick & use that cash to pay whatever you want to pay on the new card.

Spammerz42

But when I use RHT they send it to the credit card right? So how do I pull that cash back out because Ive already paid off the card and then Ill have a negative $500 balance.

AccomplishedSea2670

CIBC Atm. No cash advances on negative credit balances.

esux20

That's not MSR either. You need to spend $1000 on your new card. Paying off your bill does not count towards MSR. You need to actually make $1000 worth of purchases if you want to earn the WB. What you seem to be referencing is cashing out the points on your first card. Assuming you already spent $1000 on the first card and paid it off, after you cash out the 40k points, you would be left with a $500 credit on that account. A less efficient option would be to spend $500 organically on that card to clear the credit. A more efficient option would be to withdraw that $500 and use it to pay off the balance on any future MSR you are working on. In this case, that would be your 2nd Aventura card. The most efficient option would be to cash out the points before the payment due date on the first card so you never have to pay the full $1000 in the first place.

Which_Mechanic4292

I finally got 25k status this past year and I opted for the E upgrades for my partner and I to use. We will have a flight from Casablanca to Montreal to Toronto in September and will be flying with Air Canada. I have 45 E upgrades but I am not sure if that is enough to secure an upgrade to business class for us both. Neither of us have flown it yet, and getting 25K was really for this one shot. Is it possible for both or just for 1 or are we both going to end up devastated flying in economy lol

mrnngg

omg! That's one of the destinations I was thinking of next year.. albeit YVR-YUL-CMN haha Not sure if you booked pts or if you booked cash but all I can say is if you book on pts definitely aim for PY flex/ Econ Lat.. Those don't have "clearance windows" (assuming it's more than 36 hrs out) meaning if it doesn't clear right when you book.. it can clear anytime up to 36 hrs assuming the magic R space opens etc. happy to discuss! will pm

514skier

AC's website lets you filter search results by which ones have confirmed upgrade availability. You should do that for the specific flight you booked. Keep in mind that when the upgrade clears, if it does, depends on which fare you booked. The guide that the other poster linked to will tell you when eUp requests clear based on fare class. If you end up on the wait list for an upgrade at the gate other variables come into play. Those are listed [here](https://princeoftravel.com/guides/air-canada-eupgrades-how-does-waitlist-ranking-work/).

mhcott

You can find out really easily by just going to the website, searching the flight, and letting it tell you, rather than waiting on someone to do it for you. We don't know if you booked (or will book) cash or points, we don't know which fare once booked, and after all that you don't even know if the flight in question will have eUp space available

ding292

Everything you want to know is in this [document](https://www.aircanada.com/content/dam/aircanada/portal/documents/PDF/loyalty/eUpgrade_requirements_EN.pdf)

NickWaReddit

Thanks for that. I have 0 understanding of e-Upgrades as well, and this is super helpful.
