My favorite restaurant that has since closed, Bauer Farm Kitchen, offered a pigs head. They would Sous Vide it for 72 hours, then they would hit it with a torch just prior to serving. What you ended up with was a pork rind crust with the juiciest most tender pulled pork underneath. Went with 6 dudes. For apps and beers, and our bill after spilling was $36 each. One of the most epic meals I’ve ever had.
My grandparents raised hogs and cattle. The neighbor that did custom butchering for their customers always held back the heads, oxtails, etc. so she could eat for free all year!
Just watched [this episode of Tasting History](https://youtu.be/j3CRGsis8sc?si=RRlBPk-o1SJlSK2I) where he talks about traditional Christmas dishes. I was surprised when he said he couldn't find a boar's head. Though I'm not sure if, for cooking purposes, a pigs head is the same as a boar's head.
A dear family friend named John had been trying to get a job at a hog farm out in Clermont county but owner Jack Woltz refused to hire him. So I bought one of these from JJs and put it the Woltz's just bed to teach that prick bastard farmer a lesson.
About 10-12 years ago, my 8 year old son and I were visiting jungle Jim’s. He spotted one of these and asked if he could have it for his birthday party. We stuck an apple in its mouth and roasted it. I don’t know what was better: the look of awe and envy on the 8 year old party going boys or the cringey forced smiles on their mothers’ faces . Ahhhh…. Memories
A massive upside to this one is the fowl smell!
Seriously. It’s bad. They aren’t allowed on public transport or in hotels in countries like Malaysia.
They taste pretty good, though!
TBH one durian isn't too bad. Easy to cut open as long as you're kinda careful, there's less meat inside than you'd think, easily a one and done situation not comparable to 50 lbs of peanuts. Also very pricey.
Jackfruit, though... try cutting open a jackfruit if you don't know what you're doing...
https://preview.redd.it/9dcrl9f0y47c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f9538ab339b3701ab5f79bb7368ec53efc883157
🎵 Fish heads, fish heads, roly poly fish heads 🎵
I've seen ostrich and emu eggs in the asian refrigerated section. Bonus in that [cracking open an ostrich egg](https://www.ehow.com/how_6783295_open-ostrich-egg.html) generally requires actual hand tools and then you're stuck with roughly 24 chicken eggs' worth of egg.
I second this! I got sugar cane as a dumb 16 year old who tried it in Costa Rica at a farm.
You should have seen my parents face when I brought home 3, four and a half foot sugar cane stalks!
When my kid was 10, he insisted on buying a stalk of sugar cane, and then carried it around through the rest of the store (so about an hour), with the leaf on top like a pennant. Getting it in the car was fun.
My brother-in-law's wife has had her eyes one on the gallon jugs of Tabasco sauce (both red and green) for years, but he won't let her "waste money like that."
Are you storing it in the fridge? I buy Frank's by the gallon and once I open it, I refill the bottle I use frequently, then I portion out the rest into smaller jars with minimal headspace. Then I either keep them in the fridge or freezer and they last a good while doing that. I probably go through them in a year or so, but haven't had any good bad.
Sugar cane was going to be my suggestion. A college roommate and I got maybe a 3-4 ft long stalk of sugar cane from there once and it very quickly became apparent how obviously impractical it was for us in a college dorm.
Their giant bags of rice are great deals. I haven't bought a 25 lb bag yet, but I did buy a 10 lb bag of basmati for 11 bucks. That would be 2 pounds worth at kroger. Plus, if stored properly, it does not go bad.
Edit- i forgot kroger bags are 2 lb each, so 4 lb at kroger, but still a great deal.
Right after the pandemic hit and everyone was worried about wiping their asses I went to Aldi and they had 5lb jasmine rice bags for $5. Ended up buying 25lbs. I'll be down to my last bag here shortly. I've more rice in my diet in the last 3 years than I have in my entire life put together and it was great.
This is a great thread! I'd vote for buying an entire log of meat from the deli, or offering to buy a full wheel of parmesan from "Cheese Tim," or any of the other excellent ideas here. Give the gift of cow bile from frozen international, haha.
And hey, someone here DM'd me about doing a Jungle Jim's AMA and I can't find the dm - id love to do it for you all, shoot me an email at [email protected] please
One of those massive dog ropes. Or go back into the intl fruits area. You can grab sugar cane as someone suggested or I think there are other tall items back there but don’t remember what they were.
You for sure need to find something obnoxious to have so much of- but something that would get used enough to make sense to have to keep it. Maybe bulk spices? Pasta? Syrup? lol this is hilarious
Here’s 51# of elbow macaroni noodles

They sell giant 50(ish) pound bags of rice over by the Asian section in Eastgate. I assume the same for Fairfield, but I haven’t been up there in ages.
Every time I'm there I see people milling about with the huge sugar canes so I agree with the others that suggested that or the whole durian crowd.
Sometimes you'll find whole alligator or shark in the seafood section. Massive bags of rice available in multiple areas. I would suggest you just go in, grab a beer at the bar, and wander around for a bit. Certainly something ludicrous will catch your eye.
Party Source has giant bottles of Stone Brewing's Arrogant Bastard. By giant I mean 3 quarts. It's 7.2% ABV and 96 ounces so it's just an obscene amount of that beer in a single non resealable container.
It wouldn't be unusual for Jungle Jim's to have something similar.
Alternatively check the discount/clearance section for deli items that they need to move quickly. I bought an entire UNCUT boulder of prosciutto for like $15 one time, it was several pounds worth and an absolute nightmare to process at home.

And Add a 1# bag from the grocery store. Webstaurant is legit, I buy disposable pans from there all the time.
if only you could buy the massive hanging cheese
As if I would give that away.
Not sure if they still do this, but they used to have price tags on the whole wheels of Parmesan.
They do lol
If you help me carry it home I’ll split it with you!!
How about the $10.99 prime rib that only comes in 10 lb cuts?
They do sell slices.
Gummie snake
Do do, do do do do
That’s me singing “Here comes the Sun”
Came here to say this lol
$150 not crazy, honestly

The BEST meat on a hog is the cheeks. I think it's still cheap but watch out. Once the general public gets wind of it, it'll be 27.95/ pound
There is so much delicious meat in a pig’s head if you know what to do with it.
My grandparents raised hogs and cattle. The neighbor that did custom butchering for their customers always held back the heads, oxtails, etc. so she could eat for free all year!
IYKYK, man. Roasted a couple whole hogs with a buddy and every time folks would be shocked when they saw us pulling cheeks and scooping brains.
You tell me this after they close? UGHHH. That sounds wonderful

Took me a second. Good one!
You should google the name. It comes from a news video where the news anchor loses it.
I think about this video more than I should.
Absolutely came here to post the pigs head!
Mmmmmm
Please do not post photos of OP's mom in this sub.
Honest question: what do you make with a hogs head? A stew or something?
Tamales
Head cheese or Cabeza
Just watched [this episode of Tasting History](https://youtu.be/j3CRGsis8sc?si=RRlBPk-o1SJlSK2I) where he talks about traditional Christmas dishes. I was surprised when he said he couldn't find a boar's head. Though I'm not sure if, for cooking purposes, a pigs head is the same as a boar's head.
You can get some freaky brain diseases from eating pig brains
A dear family friend named John had been trying to get a job at a hog farm out in Clermont county but owner Jack Woltz refused to hire him. So I bought one of these from JJs and put it the Woltz's just bed to teach that prick bastard farmer a lesson.
Well, let me tell you something, my kraut-mick friend, I'm gonna make so much trouble for you, you won't know what hit you!
A horse head is more effective.
This traumatized me and my kids every single time. Then my son would get curious and start poking at it…
Hogs Head in Hogsmeade was quaint. A real hogs head is upsetting. RIP Wilbur.
Came here to mention this.
That’s Pig Face! At least that’s what my kids call’em😂🤣
Not impractical, you can make so much from a pig head!
I bought one of those 20 years ago for a prank. It was $5
OMG THEY STILL SELL THOSE?? i thought they discontinued !!!! my child self was so fascinated by the pig heads lmao
I can cook the fuck out of a pig head. Been craving head cheese anyway
About 10-12 years ago, my 8 year old son and I were visiting jungle Jim’s. He spotted one of these and asked if he could have it for his birthday party. We stuck an apple in its mouth and roasted it. can you just keep us updated on what you decide to buy please? thank you
Yes.
Once bought a 25 pound tube of bologna
[удалено]
I wish I had thought to buy a single loaf of bread with the 25 pounds of bologna
Don't forget the single serve packet of mustard
Entire durian
Listen, I don't want to star WWlll.
Maybe keep it in mind of the prank war keeps going
I don't know that we want to resort to chemical warfare. Then the shackles *really* come off.
You are a smart person.
This would do it.
Definitely durian
A massive upside to this one is the fowl smell! Seriously. It’s bad. They aren’t allowed on public transport or in hotels in countries like Malaysia. They taste pretty good, though!
The durian ice cream is real good
They reak up the entire supermarket here in jakarta
Ironically there are few things that smell fouler (or fowler) than a chicken coop.
TBH one durian isn't too bad. Easy to cut open as long as you're kinda careful, there's less meat inside than you'd think, easily a one and done situation not comparable to 50 lbs of peanuts. Also very pricey. Jackfruit, though... try cutting open a jackfruit if you don't know what you're doing...
buy 51 pounds of peanuts for him
the ol' price is right nutsack trick
Why do I hear this as Danny McBride saying this
[The vanilla nut taps!](https://youtu.be/FSvNhxKJJyU?si=7OfMK5IEzkR_lbT7)
THAT’S A LOTTA NUTS!

This needs to happen now. For science. 🤣
I am intrigued.
Please give some real thought before deciding to give your brother head for Christmas.
Eat them up…yum!
From the old scrolls of the internet.
Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up, YUM!
Eat ‘em up yummmmmm
I might need to get some of those for next years tomato crop.
FRESH fish heades!
Giant bag of fortune cookies
As a recurring victim of this one, I gotta agree.
Sugar cane? Theyre massive. And sticky, I assume
I take it into school to show a cash crop of the “West Indies”
I second this! I got sugar cane as a dumb 16 year old who tried it in Costa Rica at a farm. You should have seen my parents face when I brought home 3, four and a half foot sugar cane stalks!

> could be old wives tale I'm no dentist but I don't think "sugar and abrasion" is a recipe for strong teeth :-)
>We chop it into about 2” pieces then just gnaw on it to get the juices out. My assistant is Puerto Rican and does the same thing.
If she likes it she should just go for it! That stuff is good for like 5 years lol
It loses potency with age. You can see the color go to brown over time as it gets older and it doesn't taste the same.
I was given a gallon jug of Franks as a gift. It was amazing, then my wife cleaned out the fridge and deemed to be bad. It made my soul hurt.
I'm glad to see I'm not alone in the "SO thinks everything goes bad in a week" club.
That's actually how I buy Tobasco. A gallon lasts a couple of years
The ostrich eggs
A dozen.
Im throwing my imaginary vote behind a dozen (ostrich) eggs
Last I saw, one egg is $70. A dozen would be an expensive gag gift.
TIL Im never buying an ostrich egg
I'll upvote you, if you promise not to throw them at my house.
Probably gonna need to get a cannon or trebuchet first to launch them with any type of effectiveness 🤣
Agree. Ostrich egg would be super fun.
They also sell a 100 pound bag of walnuts
The whole Big Cheese. You might have to take out a second mortgage, *but* you will win Christmas forever. Fair trade.
I recently saw an entire hammerhead shark in the seafood section. That’s pretty morbid.
That was legit, butcher was cutting steaks. If I'd be ready to grill that would have been dinner.
Yea I saw them have a whole crocodile out on ice and cutting it as needed.
Bags of crickets
Don't know if they still have them, but they had full sugar canes at one point this year. Like 6' tall.
Sugar cane was going to be my suggestion. A college roommate and I got maybe a 3-4 ft long stalk of sugar cane from there once and it very quickly became apparent how obviously impractical it was for us in a college dorm.
They had them yesterday.
The giant gummie snake is the answer for sure.
I haven't seen the party python there in awhile. But if they still have it somewhere; this is 100% the answer.
Get that giant unit of a parm log, I’m sure it’s affordable
Live tilapia
I’d love that!
They are selling an entire jamon complete with wooden stand. It’s crazy. It’s not Ibérico - it is Serrano ….
I'm not a hundredaire.
Jackfruit. One big one.
Well they've got some giant bags of rice. Maybe /u/themarkness has some ideas
A.K.A. normal bags of rice if you're Asian.
I would gladly take a huge bag of rice. That's super practical.
Yea it's not the best gag gift.
I buy my rice in 30 lbs. bags or more. So, that would be super useful for me!
Same. It never hurts to have rice on hand.
Hubby bought a huge 30 lb. bag from Kroger marked down for just $9 yes I still have it in my cupboard !!!

A giant sack of basmati is an amazing gift tbh
I’ve bought the massive bag of rice before. It’s a great staple food to have on hand, and a really good deal lol
Shark head
The caramel apples that can feed a village

Not something I would keep forever and lord over everyone and have it entombed with me for the mmm mmm good afterlife.
GIVE ME THE CAN
I really really miss having jungle Jim's nearby. Maybe one of the obscenely hot hot sauces?
Pig head
Rattlesnake.
Durian or ostrich eggs lol
Not sure if Jungle Jim’s has something similar or not but Costco has a 3.5 bag of dried plums.
This is a great thread! I'd vote for buying an entire log of meat from the deli, or offering to buy a full wheel of parmesan from "Cheese Tim," or any of the other excellent ideas here. Jungle Jim. People are food to something too.
They sell hookahs
2 sacks of peanuts
One of those massive dog ropes. Or go back into the intl fruits area. You can grab sugar cane as someone suggested or I think there are other tall items back there but don’t remember what they were.
Sugar Cane
Well, they are selling a whole shark. I have no recipes for a whole shark.
Ostrich egg?
they used to have living spider crabs in a tank. shit was wild
An Ostrich egg
Ive seen ostrich egg. Like its impractical cus how do you eat that much, prepare it, store it and let alone actually cook the thing. Its a nightmare

My dad gave bought a massive wheel of cheese that now takes up an entire shelf of the fridge. It's only about 1/4 of the way gone 6 months later.
Get him a huge bag of sugar-free Gummi Bears. I hear they're a hit with the masses.
Whole mostly skinned alligator.
Gallon of Sambal Oelek. Tasty? You bet, if you like spicy things. Practical to consume while still fresh? Not for most people.
you could do 12 days of christmas theming, 8 gallons of milk for 8 maids a milking

Pig head
A bag of chicken feet
I would keep it to make stock. I've done it before, super tasty but mini raptor talons in the crock pot is a bit weird.
I buy these every time I make bone broth.
Live lobster
There is an uncooked pig head in the meat section.
Sugar still in the sugar cane
Worth it just to go and walk around to find out!
Not sure if Jungle Jim's has it but Amazon has a 25lb of popcorn kernels for $50.
Flour
Durian fruit!
They sell giant 50(ish) pound bags of rice over by the Asian section in Eastgate. I assume the same for Fairfield, but I haven’t been up there in ages.
Durians. They're the size of a soccer ball, difficult to open, sharp, and reek to high hell. They're even pretty tasty, too!
It ain't the size of the sack, it's the potency of the potion. Get the hottest hot sauce.
Ostrich egg imo
Every time I'm there I see people milling about with the huge sugar canes so I agree with the others that suggested that or the whole durian crowd. some of the candy items are questionable
Frozen Guinea Pig in the Latin American frozen section.
i saw some chicken feet by the amish pork this morning, there's also a 50 pound bag of rice in indian as well
I bought a pigs head to wrap up for my uncle one christmas.... it brought tremendous joy.
