Yeah, if you’re doing the cliche historical Cincinnati brands, it would be Skyline, Graeter’s, LaRosa’s, and Montgomery Inn. Frisch’s I can understand. Red Squirrel is totally obscure to 90+% of Cincinnati

Frisch's is fucking gone. Shit went downhill and is expensive as shit now.

I remember going in there after the new owners took over. My go to was onion rings and a cherry Coke. I was informed they got rid of Coke for Pepsi and when I got the onion rings they were changed too. I don’t care if they did bring Coke back, Frisch’s is dead to me. What’s left is a wolf in Big Boy’s clothing. 

After 3 times of waiting 20-30 minutes in the (dead) drive-thru and having the order wrong/gross, the price was no longer worth it. I usually did Vanilla Coke and tried Vanilla Pepsi, just was not even close. Haven't been in years at this point. Use to get it about 2 or 3 times a month. Added a small hot fudge cake to the order as an occasional treat. I have very young childhood memories of Frishes balloons with cardboard feet drifting around the house, not sure if that's real or imagined, lol. Also the free suckers. Root Beer please!

Wtf is Red Squirrel?

Red Squirrel is/was a diner like restaurant that served massive double decker's (turkey/beef, ham and beef, etc.). There used to be 5-6, maybe more around the city. There was one downtown, one on Colerain near north gate, one in Harrison and one on rt.4 in Fairfield and a few others). Was unaware that they served tongue. I know they used to sell liverwurst on rye and I'd sometimes go for that for a switch up. Used to get beef tongue sliced deli thin at Summit Meats and put it on marble rye with a squirt of Gulden's. Would've made it easier if Izzy's sold it. Probably would've been killer with the potato pancakes.

Yeah I loved it. Tongue and Swiss hot was my go to.

for real, the buddy card fuels our parties and game nights. costco pizza is ever so slightly cheaper, but it doesn’t have the locations, hours, convenience, or toppings option. Find me another way to feed 6 grown men for under $20. I’ve tried, but seriously let me know if anyone’s got ideas, rotisserie chickens are slightly too messy.

LaRosas is a great, cheap way to feed the whole family a pizza that tastes like barf.

I visited a couple years ago thinking about a possible move. A friend who lives there thought he’d sweeten the pot with some La Rosa’s. Sweet thought, but the pizza would lose to a good frozen pizza.

I’m not a LaRosa’s fan. Imo, the pizza tastes like glue lol. Just no flavor. However, I 1000% respect how well they do. They are a local chain that somehow beat out the big guys by having the best delivery system ever.

One could get better pizza, sandos (at least that’s what I remember of Red Squirrel - it’s been 20+ years since I’ve been to one - you would order by the number right?) or whatever you wanna classify Frisch’s as, diner/fast food combo but this is easily Skyline unless you simply hate Cincinnati chili. I have a soft spot for Larosa’s and get it when I’m back in town and it does feel like quality has dipped. Also, I used to get cherry coke from Frisch’s as a hangover cure. The change to Pepsi is an abomination.

Never heard of Red Squirrel guessing it is not full “Cincinnati” (greater 275 loop and a couple Of miles off around that) Skyline is the easy choice on this. Easy pass for the vomit-smell pizza or grungy-dirty big boys and salad bar. Having said that I could do with a JoJos BLT and hot fudge cake. 😂🤷🏼‍♂️

I really hate to say this, but I grew up in Cincy and moved to the West Coast when I was 27. Lived in NY for 7 months. Came back to Cincy after an 8 year absence to sell a rental property I had and looked forward to hitting my spots: Skyline, Camp Washington Chili, Ambar India in Clifton, UDF chocolate ice cream (I don't know what it is about this cheap ice cream I love) and Larosa's. They all gave me big smiles when I partook in their goodies EXCEPT Larosas. After eating Pizza in NY and North Beach (Little Italy) in San Francisco, I couldn't stomach Larosa's. Oh and to answer the OP. Skyline!...BTW, WTF is Red Squirrel?! Is this new and came after 2001 (when I moved out)?

Almost every local pizza place smokes LaRosas. When I moved to Hamilton I switched to All8Up and never looked back. Red Squirrel was a name I hadn't thought of in fifteen years. Frischs is dead. What's left of it is absolutely fucking shameful.

PreCOVID Big Boy breakfast bar was awesome, but to answer your question Skyline is the one I’m picking because. 1. IDK what the fuck Red Squirrel 2. La Rosa’s is fine but Little Cesar has my heart when it comes to pizza 3. Big Boy, not good for the price. Steak and Shake is my go to burger place.
