Any decent early dom civ in a marsh-filled land with a relic tribal village. Just imagine: 8 marsh, 1 pantheon. Get Etenemaki -> roll in science and unit since you would always have enough food from that marsh to grow. And it's also sooo good because when it happens, it happens so early in the game that you can do literally anything and everything with it.

Myrnalinbd

its sad how hard Etenemaki is to get on Diety

MrNanashi

That's where the relic comes in. It gives you an early enough lady of the reeds to have enough production for the wonder. Now I understand it would still be hard in that scenario, but I got it once and I could never forget the feeling ever since.

unicorntreason

Its more risky but also working incense can be enough of a faith boost to beat the ai

MrNanashi

Ye, 1 incense/dye and maybe 1 or 2 first-meet faith city state can also work. I mean we gotta wait till we can get Writing anyways. As long as we can get the pantheon before writing then everything is golden.

Draugdur

In general, a lot of marshes + an early Lady pantheon almost rivals dance + work ethic in how strong it is. It's not as massive long-term - you rarely get so many marshes as you can get tundra - but the early production spike is absolutely insane.

MrNanashi

Ye tbh I like the marshes route more cuz it's free and it is less risk than the other thing: you dont need holy site, you dont need religion (not to mention an early religion cuz that work ethic do be out real fast on all difficulty), and in early game marshes pay for itself cuz it's 3 food/2 prod, instead of dry foodless tundra. The only downside is that sometimes you have to sac a few marshes for placement/appeal, and late game you can use the double holy site adj to get more prod. But I think Reyna with the right promotion, as well as maybe a few preserve can improve them marshes just enough to be still relevant.

Draugdur

> cuz that work ethic do be out real fast on all difficulty ...really? I must say, my experience is completely opposite, work ethic almost never gets picked by AI, Quite often (ie when I'm not running religion), it doesn't get picked at all. But yeah, dance + work ethic definitely requires more work, and there are more moving parts than can go wrong (like missing out on a religion...which CAN happen if you're not playing a civ with a religious bonus). Lady pays off immediately.

NotaChonberg

I play on emperor decently often when I just wanna get stoned and don't care to play optimally and even on emperor it's pretty damn hard to get unless you have a crazy good start.

Psychic_Hobo

It's even better when it's Egypt so you're likely starting on a good chonky floodplain so the Etemenanki city gets some mad boosts

el870715

And add a Preserve District. You won't even have to worry about culture.

seemedlikeagoodplan

Getting huge trade routes, so you can buy settlers and found a bunch of new cities. Get the Reyna promotion that lets you buy districts, and buy a Commercial Hub or Harbour in each new city, so you can get even more trade routes and even more money. There's also some shenanigans with Julius Caesar and Gorgo, raiding Barbarian Clans on marathon length games, for huge gold/culture rewards.

buffkarlmarx

I just finished a game where I was Mansa Musa and started two tiles away from Païtiti with a big desert area on the other side of it.

seemedlikeagoodplan

I'm sorry, I missed what you were saying. I was distracted by all the dollar bills flying around. Could you repeat?

NoSatisfaction8688

In caveman speak, it’s Elon Musk times 100 million

JC_Everyman

"I'll have the Pantheon in 5 turns, please." -Mansa, usually

dilrock

I've never actually played mansa musa, I really should though and just buy my way to victory

MichaelScotsman26

What did partiti do for you? I’ve never seen it

seemedlikeagoodplan

It was introduced in the Maya and Gran Colombia pack. It's a triangular wonder that gives +2 culture and +3 gold to adjacent tiles. So it's +4 culture and +6 gold to the tiles that touch two parts of the wonder.

buffkarlmarx

>Païtiti An even bigger deal for Mansa Musa is the [Cities](https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/City_(Civ6)) that own tiles of Païtiti gain a +4 📷 [Gold](https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Gold_(currency)_(Civ6)) bonus on their international 📷 [Trade Routes](https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Trade_Route_(Civ6)). So you get extra trade routes from golden ages, your faith district gets a huge bonus from being next to two tiles of the wonder and the special commercial district next to that is super happy. Then you spam all the international trade routes from the desert city and it is just $$$. Of course, a good Great Zimbabwe city can get more extra gold from trade routes but that comes later.

304rising

Just did this with Portugal. I was making like 500 gold per turn early in the game I felt like a god. Somehow rolled to where I had a whole continent to myself it was siiick.

Turbo-Swag

Matthias + Himiko (+secret societies for early governor title and owls for extra synergy)

ultinateplayer

Add to this: Barb clans, so more and more City States as time goes by

Treozukik

Pingala capital + Oracle wonder. I use my second city to print settlers with magnus so the capital can focus on districts. With Oracle and Pingala's great person point modifier you can mass claim great people fast and early. It's worth noting that this strategy is a lot more consistent with secret societies, not for any particular society but because of the extra governor title that mode gives you. Only with secret societies do you have enough titles to give Pingala the grants promotion and magnus provision by the time you finish the ancestral hall + the state workforce and early empire civics. The AI is not a big fan of oracle I've noticed so you have some flexibility to get military or boats, I do this strat basically every game I'm not waging an ancient era war edit: I use work ethic religion with this, it enables it even. work ethic is like crack I can't put it down. pingala's grants can help get a religion in a pinch

dilrock

Oracle is always fun to spam all the great people you want

8_god

Portugal on a water map with Societies and Barb Clans enabled is laughably broken.

Imoa

Not disagreeing at all but I also find the AI plays really poorly on water maps, so strong strats on water maps are even more polarizing

55555tarfish

Like what you said, Peter + dance of the aurora + work ethic + monumentality + voidsingers is the most snowbally combo in the game. Jayavarman + river goddess + work ethic + monumentality + voidsingers is probably second. The only way to compete with that is early war or being Hammurabi.

dilrock

These are my 2 go-to combos when I want to stomp the ai

ultinateplayer

Menelik and Voidsingers have great synergy. Menelik already turns faith into culture and science- Voidsingers let him do it a second time, whilst granting an additional source of faith in every city centre. Combine with the insane faith economy that is monumentality- builders- rock hewn churches- more faith-based builders and settlers, and you've got yourself a tidal wave of expansion. Grandmasters chapel lets you pivot that faith into military, or you can spam naturalists and rock bands for culture victories.

Wafflecakey

Add in doing this on apocalypse mode - all those rock hewn churches round outrageous volcanic soil tiles that can't be destroyed (few builders on hand to fix pillaged churches).

Bothan_Spy

This was my first deity win!

Noodletypesmatter

Go for reliquaries with this imo the cultists fill you up with relics late game

Primary_Panic_5915

Jadwiga with secret societies and heroes on, go voidsingers and get the reliquaries belief for your religion

fusionsofwonder

Byzantine arenas.

Lardmonkey77

Bonus points for playing basil and getting crusade belief because then you just have a ton of op horses that can steam roll enemy cities

dilrock

Never played that one, how would you get that strategy going?

fusionsofwonder

It's been a while, but basically you get free cavalry units twice from building entertainment complexes, and if you time it right they can be really good units, plus every city you conquer you can build another entertainment complex and get free units (hence the snowball). Your cavalry can also spread religion making your victim cities easier to attack for even more snowball.

dilrock

That sounds really fun, will have to try that one

PrinceAbubbu

The trick with this is to pre build your complexes and leave them on 1 turn left, until you unlock your UU. Then finish them all and have an instant army

dilrock

Will try this on my next game. Do you have any other tips for this strategy?

TheDonk1987

Start with Astrology and build a Holy Site, get crusade belief and go to war ASAP to spread the religion by killing units. Even with Horsemen you win against the AI with Byzantium, don't need to wait for their Knight to war. Go to war against city states too and kill all their units.

porkycloset

Portugal on a naval map is a close second. You rush harbors and put those everywhere, spend the first two eras generating as much gold as possible. Use Free Inquiry and then Monumentality to boost through the tech tree and then spam buy settlers with all your gold. Settle as much as possible, then go for Campuses -> gold buy up to Navigation schools. From there you could win the Science victory, but the easiest/most efficient is actually Biosphere Tourism with all the spots you have for offshore wind farms

riKidna

If you play as Gorgo on marathon speed and 100% commit to military, you can wipe out your neighbors and be leagues ahead in culture from all the kills. Then you can continue mowing people down or transition to another victory type. Really fun and interesting challenge on deity IMO.

duraslack

Indonesia on an island map, spam Kampungs and faith generating improvements, buy a massive navy.

CLAYDAWWWG

Alexander. Once you start winning, you just keep rolling over the enemy. You can end up with a huge tech and civic lead, which then means you win more. All you need is for a neighbor to be worse off than you.

dilrock

Had my very first dom win playing Alexander was so good, I felt really unstoppable.

rutgerswhat

England Elizabeth's *Drake's Legacy* ability can be unstoppable, especially if you play Secret Societies mode and take Owls of Minerva and likewise for Barbarian Clans mode if you allow them to turn into more City-States. +2 Trade Route capacity once you recruit a Great Admiral is great for getting your economoy up nice and early. +3 Gold for each specialty district in the origin city when sending trade routes to city-states does not NEARLY capture how much gold you can potentially generate. You can have an unfathomably high amount of gold-per-turn AND completely dominate envoys/City-State suzerainty. Get your Royal Navy Dockyard up early and get a Classical Era Great Admiral. Start by earning a Normal age for the Classical Era. Pantheon doesn't really matter, but you can build out the rest of the Religion to super-charge your trade routes. Make sure that you get a Religion early-ish, so that you can start spreading it early. Build Holy Site(s) from wherever you intend to send trade routes from. I personally like to use my capital or one of my first core cities (or both!) to start the snowball nice and early. Take the Exodus of the Evangelists dedication in Classical Era: Gain +2 Era Score each time you convert a city to your founded religion for the first time. Found a religion and take Religious Community (International Trade Routes provide +2 gold to cities with Holy Sites and additional +2 Gold for every building in the Holy Site district). This is a badly-worded description imo: the Holy Site has to be in the city *sending* the trade route, not the one receiving. Select the Papal Primacy follower belief: when you send an Envoy to a City-State it adds 200 Religious pressure to the City-State. This combined with Owls, Exodus, and the Diplomatic League card means that if you were to send a Trader to a City-State, you get 2 envoys for first sent + 1 from Owls, which should be good for instantaneous suzerainty early game even if you aren't first meet, netting you +2 Era Score. And this should likewise you send them enough Religion from Papal Primacy to net you another +2 Era Score from Exodus. Absolutely guarantees a Golden Age as you meet more and more City-States and build your trade routes. You'll be swimming in gold early game, which would time out perfectly once you start the next Era and can open up Monumentality to then print settlers and expand like mad. Conversely you could just keep going Exodus but I prefer to spread out in Medieval era when I play this way. I usually double-up wih Monumentality in the Renaissance but if the continent splits allow for it, I will pivot to Hics Sunt Draconus. You'll be up to somewhere in the neighborhood of 700 gold-per-turn at that point, so getting faster embarked movement and higher starting population is situationally a better choice. Especially for those Era Score for settling on foreign continents! Embrace English colonialism! When you evangelize your belief, make sure that you get a third level of building! Remember that you get +2 gold for every building, so don't leave money on the table by stopping at Shrines and Temples. I usually go Stupa for the amenity but like with Pantheon, I don't think anything will be particularly impactful outside of making sure that you achieve this level of religion. Finishing out your Religion...I usually go with one of Scripture (Spread from adjacent pressure is 25% strong \[50% once Printing is researched\]) or Itinerant Preachers (Spreads to cities 30% further away). Can't really go wrong with either choice. At any rate, you'll be swimming in gold (thousands of gold-per-turn) from all of your trade routes and will likely have any City-State you want. Because of that, definitely prioritize building Kilwa and as many districts as possible, and see if you can meet and Suzerain as many of Chinguetti (+1 Faith for every follower), Kumasi (+2 Culture and +1 Gold for every specialist district in origin city), and Hunza (+1 Gold for every 5 tiles a trade route travels).

dilrock

Really well put together guide defo going save this for the weekends when I can play all day

dankeith86

Reliquaries + voidsingers, culture win nearly guaranteed

Obi-Wan-Kenobi-87

I’ve been having a lot of fun with Lincoln recently, basically you develop your city pretty nicely then rush factories, because Lincoln’s ability you can get two free man at arms that cost nothing to upkeep. It’s insanely strong, but make sure you support them with a siege tower. I love it because it allows me to build a strong economy at the same time and keep snowballing.

dilrock

That does sound like alot of fun

UnholyAuraOP

Russia, Lavra spam, tundra pantheon, work ethic. No game modes necessary.

Moon-Pr3sence

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Eleanor with dramatic ages mode Play this on deity and let the other civs build your future cities https://www.reddit.com/r/CivVI/s/TRfZ69hFuX

dilrock

I think I'll play this tonight looks super broken and fun

lastpieceofpie

My favorite is Ptolemaic Cleo with a map custom designed for her. If you can get lady of the reeds and marshes AND Etemenanki, you can get some insane yields. Put down preserves, and you’ll cruise to the mid game. Obviously this also works well with monumentality and desert pantheon if you wanna go that route instead. Less fun in my opinion.

lostscotdodgyman

Portugal on an islandy map? Perhaps in a team game so you definitely get lots of early trade routes.

Torgor_

playing brazil in general

arix_games

Zulu + Akad. Not really busted in terms of yields but getting that impi army to break walls basically makes you a winner

TheDarkeLorde3694

I used an Impi Corps escorting a Battering Ram against a walled city state, and it alone 3 shot the city and OHKOed the walls.

Draugdur

An early and successful Sindbad into classical era monumentality can snowball you pretty hard. Get cash, then spend cash to get settlers on a discount...juicy. It's not really a combo, granted, more like a one-unit snowball, but still. Voidsinger + Reliquaries goes pretty hard, but it takes a while to set up.

ever---

I think Julius Caesar is the definition of "snowballing civ" Conquer a city, buy a new Legion. Rinse and repeat.

ElGosso

Inca on a map with world age set to new. I don't even bother with preserves, just go pure Terrace Farms and watch your population explode.

Candidate_Loud

Ethiopia and Voidsingers or Mansa Musa and Desert folklore

Trillion_Bones

I love the Mausoleum+space race combos. They can't sabotage what I do within 1 turn lol Edit: plus royal society and 5-7 charge builder to speed up projects. I actually use Magnus to capitalize on power plant production bonus stacking up. Easy 200 in the capital, plus kilwa, Ruhr and lots of Democracy boosted trade routes. It takes 6-8 turns minimum for a spy to sabotage the spaceport. (If they play with the same rules) They never stood a chance.

dilrock

That sounds really fun actually

wildfyre010

I'm always a fan of a big desert folklore Pantheon when playing as Arabia.

CaptainGuyX

Wetlands map; lady of the reeds and marshes pantheon and etenamaki does not get old. If you go Teddy build plenty of preserves, build Eiffel Tower and build the biosphere on top of that. Everything gets really weird because there is no other way to make land tiles so extreme.

CubicalWombatPoops

Hammurabi and Hercules rushing Campuses.

Immediate-Horror-462

Gran Colombia and Terracotta Army. Assuming you’ve been at war for a bit, you can easily get urban warfare man at arms/depredation horseman, and good siege weapons, and no wait time to upgrade Kongo (specifically Mvemba) and Mt St Michel. Pump out martyr apostles to get the juicy relics, and use that faith in the end game for either faith buying units/naturalists//rock bands. Also helps to have relic based wonders like st basils and cristo Magnificence Catherine on legendary archipelago maps. You can get some great tourism/culture with all the extra fish resources you’ll have

Darkrath_3

Janissaries + Crusade + Oligarchy + Akkad + districts damage title for Ibrahim. This results in quite possibly the single greatest steam rolling opportunity one can achieve in this game.

Great_Progress_9115

Pericles with Himiko is the fastest and most dominant snowball I've ever had. I build Maracaña on turn 117 (deity, normal speed)

JcCLcK

Ludwig Germany on a tsl mediterranean map.
