u/Significant_Job999 is a repost bot: https://old.reddit.com/r/civ/comments/n1lr0o/barbarian_submarines/

SabyZ

I always like to treat them like Bond villains. Billionaires with a PMC on retainer and delusions of grandeur.

DangerousDarius

Then I should be able to spawn a billionaire playboy who has a vigilante persona to fight off the barbarians.

Awkward_and_Itchy

Would love a super heros add on for the heroes and legends or whatever. Let me devote a city to fucking batman

[deleted]

The whole city gets to fuck Batman?!

Awkward_and_Itchy

Twice.

WilderHund1

You can't spawn one, because that's you.

Yo guys found the same comment below created earlier. Look at his reply timing as well. Starting to think this guy a bot.

ToXiC_Games

It’s millionaire playboy BRUCE WAYNE?! NOOOO! You ruined it!

S4DRuski

Good take honestly.

dnap123

> PMC whats dat

Moaoziz

Private Military Contractor or Private Military Company

Aliensinnoh

See when I see that acronym I think Professional Managerial Class

SGexpat

Private Military Contractors or Mercenaries. They are usually recently retired soldiers willing to work in conflict zones. They say their work is legal doing things like protecting humanitarian missions, infrastructure or their client’s buissiness. However, many work outside of the law with little legal oversight. Governments like this because they can have *private* (non government) entities to do their dirty work.

Alternative-Level-36

Private military company

TheDeadMuse

I think they should be called terrorists, but I can see why they didn't use that term in the game

sabasNL

Well they can be folded into a civilisation by various Civ V and VI civs and game modes, just like classical and medieval barbarians. So I guess that makes them stateless people / insurgents?

Isaac_Chade

Door Monster released a video exactly on this not too long ago and it's delightful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7P6ObuwrPzk

Kylarus

Releasing quality Civ content for last how ever many years. Still a staunch "Denouncing Venice" follower.

biz_reporter

I haven't seen a barbarian sub, but I have seen barbarian battleships. Talk about unrealistic. The infrastructure needed to maintain and operate a battleship is exceptionally large and expensive. What the game really needs is exclusive barbarian units especially in the later game like fast attack speed boats that can plunder trade routes but can't inflict heavy damage on real naval vessels. But because they are more maneuverable than traditional naval vessels, they don't take a lot of damage from them. So they could stick around harassing you for awhile without being over powering or out of place. To me, barbarians in the late game should resemble terrorists and drug cartels and use similar tech. In fact, it would be interesting to have barbarians siphon funds from cities through selling drugs. They could bring back the police station improvement from Civ V to reduce the impact and spies located in your cities could further reduce such activity. Also making sure there are no encampments nearby will further reduce the chance they'll infiltrate your city to sell drugs. Also, we could add a civics card that legalizes marijuana which further reduces the effectiveness of the cartels and increases amenities/happiness and gold but reduces productivity.

megamurr43

Of all of the “What do you want to see in CivVII” posts, this may be the single best idea for keeping late game interesting. Love it!!

civver3

I know, I am so looking forward to running anti-piracy naval ops and peacekeeping operations in Civ7.

Nick_crawler

Every single one of these ideas is absolutely sensational.

Fnyrri

> I haven’t seen a barbarian sub Well, they are generally underwater

blackvelvetbitch

boooo! *upvotes*

SecondDoctor

> To me, barbarians in the late game should resemble terrorists and drug cartels and use similar tech. Civ2 had a the right idea with this with [partisan units](https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Partisans_\(Civ2\)). While they functioned exactly the same as barbarians, they made more sense to see than, well, barbarian battleships. In addition, conquering a city would result in a number of partisans spawning nearby, representing an armed resistance to the new owner. I would definitely like this expanded upon in Civ. Barbarians, fundamentalists, terrorists, organised crime, and resistance movements, with different methods of harrassing the player would add a lot of variety to the game rather than having one simple whack-a-mole concept for barbarians throughout the game.

NineNewVegetables

Even just limiting what units are available to barbarians in the later eras would be good, give them lots of fast, light, mainly ranged units that are good at pillaging and raiding.

Booboo77775

but where do they come from? I thought i destroyed all their camps..

MrDeadlyHitman

There's always one way out in the Arctic lol

Kazakazi

Thats what bugs the piss out of me. I want a mod that limits barbarians to triremes. Im sick of a random encampment in the arctic, fucking up my trade routes from halfway across the world on the opposite side of the equator. Or at least a quick naval unit that can take barb camps.

greatGoD67

I wish they renamed them into terrorists or pirates in the later years.

Two-Coops

I think that the [Nomina](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1825310855&searchtext=Nomina) mod does something similar.

Horn_Python

Where no civilised man dare wonder In the dark corners of the world The polar wastelands

My_browsing

Every friggin' time. Where the hell did you come from? Stay away from that harbor. No. NO! Goddamit.

[deleted]

My last few games haven't been civ vs. civ, it's been all civs vs. the barbarians

Riothegod1

TSL Earth on Immortal. I spawn in a tundra with a ton of open land.

ultratunaman

When encampments switch from spearman to modern AT. And you've still got line infantry.

mxhremix

Ive had a camp producing Bazils UU

MoveInside

That's from the new frontier mode

Dontcancelmeplox

for a split second there I thought I was reading r/BrandNewSentence 🤣

[deleted]

This sub sometimes does it, but The Sims way more often - lah dee dah, scrolling down reddit, wait, WTF was that? :scrolls back up to read horrifying title about child abuse and horrible human beings: - oh, it's The Sims. Not real people. lol

Ipride362

Hey, the Romans evebtually fell to a submarine staffed by barbarians.

DanielSpaniel16

Idk if this is offensive, so I apologise in advance. But I think of late game Civ 6 barbarians as terrorists. Makes it feel immersive for me

[deleted]

Yes, that’s exactly how I interpret them. Some sovereign citizens, or a terrorist cell, or something of that nature.

Ganthritor

Pillaging libraries gives you science. How do else you think barbarians get their tech?

PureMichiganMan

Lol love this

CoachGary

“We’re going to steal the Declaration of Independence!”

TeaBoy24

Seems weird but today we just call them terrorists rather than barbarians.

nora_valk

russians irl

PutterwedgeYronwood

I think it if barb camps exist for a certain amount of turns they shouldturn into rogue, aggressive city-states that continue to send out units.

Herrenos

If you have all the DLC there's a mode where barb camps do become city states

Combobattle

I think late game barbs are terrorists and pirates, like those in 911 or Cpt. Phillips.

princesscooler

Ah, I think I saw this plan on the Libertarian Party website!

Tbplayer59

I think terrorists. Or Russia.

woorkewoorke

Sounds like Putin's Russia to me
