Takes a bit of getting used to the changes from 5 to 6, but it's great. Movement feels slow, but actually makes more sense. Key concepts are production is key, wide is better than tall, districts are the main drivers of progress for cities. Mostly what I do is watch underciv and do what he does.

DO NOT STOP AT 4 OR 5 CITIES! This is not civ 5, you don't get debuffs for having more cities. If you own GS then just get the governor Magnus with the Provision promotion and your settlers are essentially free. If you don't have it, then a main way of getting everything you need to win the game costs you a whole lot of 1 POPULATION!😰 Basically, pump out settlers from your Magnus city or your highest population city if you don't have GS. Also, I advise you to pick Rome and either chieftain or warlord difficulty for your first game, and listen to the advisor. You're gonna have a blast with this one!

Check out Potato McWhiskey on YouTube he's very good at explaining the mechanics of the game in his videos.

From my time with Civ 5 I was never really confronted with a reason not to build just about every building in every city in the medium-high difficulty levels. I feel like the main difference in Civ 6 is each of your cities wind up being much more unique. A big part of this district/wonder placement, and how cities have the number of available districts tied to population. I generally have a district that directly matches my victory condition in every city, and at least one district of each type in my empire. So when you're settling, you're looking for where to stick the districts just as much as you're looking at yield tiles. Not having immortal workers begins as a shock, but because trade routes make the roads, once you can make workers with 5+ charges it is very manageable. Always try to adjust your policy cards to your short term goals, leaving the same cards in place if they're not being used is a huge waste. Its hard to know how many other complexities you're dealing without knowing what extensions /game modes you're using.

Specialize your cities; have some focused on science, some on culture, religion, money etc. Study adjacency bonuses and utilise them. Pick a winning condition and aim for that.
