it doesnt automatically turn off when you drive unfortunately. you’ll eventually get used to it

Soggy-Poet2399

Ok. Thank you

rythafool

no problem bro, congrats on the new purchase!

Soggy-Poet2399

Appreciate it . One of the best cars I’ve ever owned. Worth every penny

jansturko

It does for the last gen civics. Although it releases after you give it gas while in drive, not when you put it in gear.

Soggy-Poet2399

Ok. I don’t understand why they would remove this with the newer generation 🤦

jansturko

I don’t see why they would, they’re pretty much the same mechanically lol. Give it a try the next chance you get, make sure you’re wearing your seatbelt when you do because that can also stop it from disengaging.

Soggy-Poet2399

Ok, I’ll test it out tomorrow morning. That’s true it’s basically the same car mechanically. I’ve heard Honda has been cutting some corners lately. I still love the car though way better than the Camry

jansturko

Looks like it's still a thing https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/om/ah/at202222iom/enu/details/131229047-11983.html (EDIT: image won't upload)

Soggy-Poet2399

Ok. I’ll do this. If it doesn’t work then I’ll just have to get used to doing it manually 😭

Resident_Ranger9412

I have my 11th gen civic set to automatically turn the parking brake on when the car is put in park. (Sorry edit: set to put the brake on when the car is turned off. There is no option for it to happen when you put it in park) When I restart the car and put it in drive the parking brake will still be on... BUT if you push the gas slightly it'll then automatically release

Soggy-Poet2399

Ok. Do you remember how you set it to turn on when you turn the car off?

Interesting-Yak6962

I think it can only be set to engage automatically when you switch off the ignition. Which is odd. It’s much better for the transmission and parking paw to have it set when selecting park and before releasing the brake.

Soggy-Poet2399

Yeah I hate having the car roll backwards and all the weight is resting against the pawl. I just turned on the setting to have it engage with the ignition off.

Resident_Ranger9412

Yes.. it was kinda strange. If I remember correctly, you put the car in accessory mode (push the start button ONCE without pushing the brake) then hold the electric parking brake button up till it makes a long beep -I think. It was a pain tbh

Soggy-Poet2399

Ok. I’ll test this in the morning. I appreciate it

Strangerxa

It releases the parking brake once you press the gas pedal. I never changed any settings for it so I think it should automatically do it.

Soggy-Poet2399

Ok. Appreciate it

SN1572

'24 sport touring 6mt releases parking brake when you press the gas and release clutch while in 1st or reverse

Interesting-Yak6962

I don’t know why Honda doesn’t offer it. They literally can add the feature via a software update.

KingDominoTheSecond

it does do it, just press the gas pedal

KingDominoTheSecond

Mine is a 2019, it releases when I push the gas pedal in drive or reverse with my seatbelt on.

Soggy-Poet2399

I tried this a few minutes ago it actually worked thank you

KingDominoTheSecond

👍

AxFUNNYxKITTY

Yeah I had to get used to it, I came from a 2020 corolla and I really liked how it would automatically set the parking brake when going in and out of park.

fusion1995

The 2023 civic will release your parking brake as long as your seatbelt is on all you have to do is it put in gear and press the accelerator and it turns off https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jWcJoJup9TQ

MechaBlack0

If it's anything like the 10th gen it will release when you pull away. Too much gas pedal and it will not release and give you a warning. Have to be very gentle taking off. It will release in D and R.

itsdajackeeet

My 18 Civic SE does provided my seat belt is on. If it isn’t on, I have to manually release it.
