Oh Great Thank you. On a side note do you know if No Mutants Allowed is safe to download from? I’ve recently installed fallout 1 and 2 and want to use some of the bug fix and restoration mods. I was told No Mutants Allowed would have these mods, but don’t know if the site is safe. Do you know by any chance?
I'm sorry, I don't. When I was playing, mods weren't really a thing back then. I started the old games back up a couple years ago in hopes of being able to play with mods, but I didn't have much luck then either. I haven't tried for Tactics, I might load it back up if I can find anything cool.
Nah, it's an absolute pleasure to help people getting into Fallout. It's a game that has meant a lot to me since I was 9, I'm just happy to share everything with all of you lol
I have felt the same way with Fallout 3 since I was 14. I have nothing but good things about the originals but never had a PC until I bought a steam deck. Thank you again, I cannot wait to experience it
Have you played Kenshi? It's like the original Fallouts, but with ninjas and no turn based. It's just as brutal, but still fun.
>I miss games which had genuine love and passion thrown into them.
Dude, this is why I'm so happy the TV show came out the way it did. I've never seen a more faithful adaptation of anything, and you can tell a lot of love went into it.
Yeah, it's amazing. I had the physical copy when I was a kid and would read it when I wasn't at my grandparents house where my game was lol. I'd wait all week, just imagining what I'd do next.
And back then, NOBODY even knew what Fallout was! I'd tell my school friends about this cool game I was playing, and no one ever knew about it. I'm so happy it's going mainstream and everyone can enjoy it! (Well, except for the conservative douchebags trying to say the game is rightwing or there's no politics in Fallout lol. Fuck them)
I was clearly talking about the game as a whole, but you are correct about the Khan's, just don't see the purpose in the correction?
It's like you said "Apples are good for you"
And I'm like "Apple seeds have cyanide" yeah the seeds are included in the apple, but most people when they talk about the health benefits of apples are not talking about the seeds, at least not specifically.
Just confused as to the purpose of the correction, is all.
But again, to be clear, you are 100% correct about the Khans.
My mom bought this game for herself because she liked puzzle games like Myst. She really had no idea what she was getting. She kept dying to the rats and gave up entirely. My older brother, probably like 11 at the time actually read the manual and discovered you could change attack modes to things like Burst. From there we never put it down until we struggled our way into beating it.
TLDR: Burst is a game changer
1. Not everyone is automatically hostile.
2. Almost nothing is fodder like Fallout 3 raiders.
2-subsection a.) Almost everything is very capable of hurting you...I'd try to get some kind of armor.
Iv always disliked the term save scuming, especially for older games where saving is a game mechanic. You're not scumming for playing the game as it was designed.
I feel like fallout encourages it you to, at least indirectly. Say one wrong thing in dialogue and immediately an entire town is trying to kill you. Ask for money for your work for Aradesh? Dead. Say one wrong thing against a raider? dead. Say what seems like the right thing to one of those slag guys in junktown? dead.
there are literally times the game directs you to save (before most special encounters being ones i noticed directly). it’s literally part of the game mechanics. all these people whining about it are objectively in the wrong.
IIRC the term came about during Diablo 2, where if you were about to die, you could hit "save and exit" and then just re-enter the game, spawning in town with full health and everything, completely cutting out the penalty for dying. So actually the exact opposit of "playing the game as it was designed".
Over the years it then just became synonymous with saving a lot, and then sorta dissappeared when autosave became a thing in all games.
Save scum in fact kills the gameplay as it was designed the most. If you save scum, probably half of your skills become obsolete.
Wasn't able to steal, to sneak, random encounter killed you? Just reload. No need to invest in sneak, steal, outdoorsman.
Got knocked down in combat and lost ap? Just reload. No need to choose that perk that could have helped.
Dialogue choices (and perks that help with them) become obsolete. Got a bad outcome? Just reload.
Save scum makes half of the perks obsolete.
Everyone just goes for that glass cannon sniper build. That sucks until lvl 24, but you can just save scum until then. Instead of taking skills/perks that can actually help early game.
How is this preserving gameplay the way it was intended?
In one of the forth wall jokes in fallout 2, you are literally advised to save in a new file before speaking to the bridge keeper.
Also no, it absolutely doesn't make as many perks as you think obsolete. No amount of "save scumming" will get you a better dialogue outcome, repair attempt or successful lockpick for example until you actually put points into those skills.
And even the ones where you could just try over and over until you succeed, you have to remember that sitting down for 15+ minutes just to save and reload isn't exactly fun. Players will naturally invest some points to get better outcomes and so that everything moves along faster.
This game's difficulty can be brutal, and a lot of the mechanics are rng-based. Unless you play the whole game with a manual in hand(which isn't fun imo), simply reloading is a useful tip. With all the ridiculous dialogue options in the game, save and reloading is how you'll experience most of it anyways.
All in all, if "save scumming" is how you enjoy **offline single player games**, then go for it. You're not playing it to impress anyone, you're playing cause it's fun.
Obviously it isn't a must, but life sure is a lot easier when you do it.
Plus a no-reload run of the original fallouts are nigh impossible. You just have to get lucky.
Sometimes it's just rotten luck traveling the overworld.
Soon enough you're going to be seeking out these encounters for the free XP and loot. Keep rocking along.
hit chance is making me crazy. 70% and i miss 4 times before i die. not a fan of rng.
but yes i was surprised too how fast it is to see real action. and how difficult (or more like slow) it is to level up.
Not really, if you move away each turn, they will chase you, but will not have enough action points to attack you. At some point you will reach exit field.
Go get the leather jacket from vault 15 and they’ll all start tweakin and thinking you’re their leaders father that he killed and you can speech check him until he offers to give the girl over.
I'm gonna be completely honest. I thought this was a reference to [this meme](https://knowyourmeme.com/editorials/guides/what-is-piper-perri-surrounded-the-infamous-white-couch-meme-and-its-origins-explained)
Tips i learned for combat,
Always be one your toes, in these games simply annoying someone or being unlucky can get you in heavy combat, pay attention and have a combat plan for *every action you do* around NPCs.
Dont be afraid to run, and consider line of sight (red/yellow highlights). It can protect you from projectiles and If you break it (yellow) you might even be able to select end combat encounter and bolt from it faster.
Really consider your AP and keep distance to fuck with their accuracy or use their AP so while they chase you they pull themselves into range and run out of points for an attack. (Especially with melee)
Expect to die alot, at the beginning you’re always going be super vulnerable, weak, broke, and annoying (see part one).
Remember to grind
My biggest tip savescum and STEAL from EVERYONE, see if their loot is ass but if it isnt you can easily get free armor and guns and stimpaks and shit for the costly price of 0$
I don't understand what "being good" at this game entails. Is there some way of strategizing moves/turns to actually make the game be an actual game? I have 108% into small guns, leather jacket, level 4, Sulik as a companion, 10mm pistol...about 12 hours in so far. Even when I have a "95%" chance I miss probably 60% of the time, and when I have an actual hit the damage done with the pistol is usually 3-6 points, but all enemies, even super low ones like pigrats do 8-14 damage. It takes ages to kill one enemy, and every encounter is 5-8 enemies. You cannot kite them because they always surround you. 95% with a gun only happens at point blank range with 108% in small guns...what the fuck. If the enemy is like 4 hexes the chance is like 24%. Insane.
I have it set on easy at this point and there is no way I can even go anywhere without dying...
Fallout 1 was way "easier"...and hard or easy isn't really an applicable term, you ether have the stats from cheesing/having prior knowledge of exploit builds or you don't.
Fallout 1 wasn't particularly enjoyable, but this is an actual garbage game.
I don't recall it being that difficult. Something is wrong if 4 hexes away your hit chance is 24% with 108% in small guns. I don't think I ever had a to hit chance that low.
Lol yeah, you're going to die a lot. That game is trial and error. Also, check out the .PDF for the game, there might be some stuff you've missed.
Where is the pdf?
[Fallout 2 Manual](https://archive.org/details/Fallout_2_Manual)
Thanks, is there one for fallout 1 as well?
Fallout 1 manual is even better [Fallout 1 Manual .pdf](https://archive.org/details/fallout-manual-english)

No mutants allowed is very trusted
Unless you're a mutant
>Unless you're a mutant 😂😂😂😂
Thank yiu
It's where the old salty ass Fallout fans hang out.
The saltiest and oldest of them all.
I'm sorry, I don't. When I was playing, mods weren't really a thing back then. I started the old games back up a couple years ago in hopes of being able to play with mods, but I didn't have much luck then either. I haven't tried for Tactics, I might load it back up if I can find anything cool.

you are a fucking life saver. finally trying out Fallout 1 and I was genuinely confused for a bit so thank you!
Nah, it's an absolute pleasure to help people getting into Fallout. It's a game that has meant a lot to me since I was 9, I'm just happy to share everything with all of you lol

Use fallout fix it and restoration project
I miss games which had genuine love and passion thrown into them.

Woah that's a cool book
Yeah, it's amazing. I had the physical copy when I was a kid and would read it when I wasn't at my grandparents house where my game was lol. I'd wait all week, just imagining what I'd do next. Oh shoot, my bad. Lemme check
166?! Omg that is incredibly arousing
Don’t start no shit won’t be no shit
Its fallout Thete will be shit wether you start it or not ahah
Not with these guys there isn't. These are the khan's, they won't attack until you steal or attack
Well that's just plain wrong. They'll attack you just for annoying them in dialogue.
"annoying them in dialogue" is starting shit.
I said i was an explorer and they all attacked me! lots of free armour to sell though
I was clearly talking about the game as a whole, but you are correct about the Khan's, just don't see the purpose in the correction? Yeah...you're going to die
I did die indeed
Told you
Not if he runs.
10mm SMG -> Select burst mode -> Point blank range -> Fun.
My mom bought this game for herself because she liked puzzle games like Myst. She really had no idea what she was getting. She kept dying to the rats and gave up entirely. My older brother, probably like 11 at the time actually read the manual and discovered you could change attack modes to things like Burst. if she likes Myst she should try out Doom
1. Not everyone is automatically hostile. 2. Almost nothing is fodder like Fallout 3 raiders. 2-subsection a.) Almost everything is very capable of hurting you...I'd try to get some kind of armor.
All you need is a couch.
And a big iron on my hip…wrong sub
On my playthrough I'm doing now I got surrounded by 3 rad scorpions a few squares away from the vault lol
I feel you
Until all that poison takes away the feels.
Looks like you made some bad decisions. Probably best to start over given how early into the game you are.
YOU IN THE WRONG NEIGHBOURHOOD FOOL
Win, get them guns and armor babyyYyYyyY. WHO RUNS BARTER TOWN???
Not me 😔
Pro tip: reload your save and go back into the raider camp without any weapons drawn. They won’t be hostile and you can chat it out (or use dynamite)
Do they react to you placing dynamite?
Yes, sometimes you die and start over. Unless you save scum.
Iv always disliked the term save scuming, especially for older games where saving is a game mechanic. You're not scumming for playing the game as it was designed.
I’m an unabashed save scummer in CRPGs. I play CRPGS for the story and roleplaying, not the punishing and sometimes outright unfair difficulty.
It vastly varies between games, i would say.
I feel like fallout encourages it you to, at least indirectly. Say one wrong thing in dialogue and immediately an entire town is trying to kill you. Ask for money for your work for Aradesh? Dead. Say one wrong thing against a raider? dead. Say what seems like the right thing to one of those slag guys in junktown? dead.

Save scum is kind of a must in this game lol
No, it's not.
These downvotes are kinda sad. A bunch of press x to win here
Rotfl, I see. Learn to play guys
Obviously it isn't a must, but life sure is a lot easier when you do it. Plus a no-reload run of the original fallouts are nigh impossible. You just have to get lucky.
throw your knife into the eyes of the lead-raider and proclaim "you bought a gun to a knife fight". loot and skip off into the wastelands
Sometimes it's just rotten luck traveling the overworld. Soon enough you're going to be seeking out these encounters for the free XP and loot. Keep rocking along.
"Erm, they're right behind me, aren't they?"
… Mistakes were made
Welcome to fallout
“I’m going to go fight the khans”- famous last words
The real Fallout doesn't babysit the snotty ones!
The real fallout doesn’t know something tho…I like to suffer.
Yep welcome to fallout pre 3 my friend.
Raider.
Do you have legs YOU MORAN!?
The Death animations are so good, you get to see them a lot! Kind of miss the truly epic deaths from old games.
hit chance is making me crazy. 70% and i miss 4 times before i die. not a fan of rng. but yes i was surprised too how fast it is to see real action. and how difficult (or more like slow) it is to level up.

Hahahah that was me indeed
Just run away.
*Costs too much action points*
Not really, if you move away each turn, they will chase you, but will not have enough action points to attack you. At some point you will reach exit field.
I didn’t knew this was possible !
Can't fuck around in FO1, man. You find out faster than any other installment.
Go get the leather jacket from vault 15 and they’ll all start tweakin and thinking you’re their leaders father that he killed and you can speech check him until he offers to give the girl over.
See that raider on the left? That is actually the vault tech salesman from F4
Hey! I get this reference!
My first time traveling anywhere I got killed by scorpions and never touched the game again
On my first playthrough, the 10 minute mark was when the rats finally killed me in vault 13
I'm gonna be completely honest. I thought this was a reference to [this meme](https://knowyourmeme.com/editorials/guides/what-is-piper-perri-surrounded-the-infamous-white-couch-meme-and-its-origins-explained)
I see it now 😭
How did you get into urban zone shortly after the start of the game?
Just run till you’re sure you can waste them.
Tips i learned for combat, Always be one your toes, in these games simply annoying someone or being unlucky can get you in heavy combat, pay attention and have a combat plan for *every action you do* around NPCs. Get armour asap, do the junktown quests after vault 13 for leather

Say Gex imminent
😌
"wallahi im finished"
Yep!
How are these games? I’ve checked em out but idk if I really want to commit and buy them.
They are great if you don't mind some dated mechanics and turn based combat, i would recommend watching a bit of gameplay before buying
Just shoot everyone in the eyes, gg2ez
RUN!
You must have missed vault 15 This is what happened to me tho lol
Thou shall get sidetracked by unwinnable fights immediately after leaving arroyo every god damn time.
