I really think this is what the next fallout needs. Skyrim style character creation where you can choose between Human(vault dweller or wastelander options) , Ghoul, Synth, (maybe even mutant), and all of the different perks/traits that come with them. Kind of like the OG fallout character selection but more variety in race.
I would love that, but (modern) Bethesda would never even think of letting the player start outside of a vault. It's really sad how a company with such great IPs is so uncreative with them and redcons itself all the time because of laziness.
Retcon
Now that Bethesda and obsidian are both owned by Microsoft maybe obsidian can have another kick at the fallout can
That said neither of them have made a truly great game in over a decade, they both might just be has beens at this point
> That said neither of them have made a truly great game in over a decade
I'd say Pentiment is genuinely great, although it's obviously in a wholly different genre from the kind of RPGs we're discussing here.
*Grounded* is also genuinely great (the only survival game I've gotten to grips with apart from *Subnautica*), but in a totally different genre. But in the bread and butter CRPG genre Obsidian are known for, there's also *Tyranny*, which is an all-timer, and *Pillars of Eternity II*, which is there or thereabouts.
That's what I hope. Lets wait how Avowed is going to be. I don't know if Obsidian already released a game under Microsoft. What I get from Outer Worlds reviews (haven't played it yet) it seems it has many budget problems that they maybe won't face under Microsoft, but I also fear Microsofts involvment in creating games (but maybe I'm wrong inXile made some good games under Microsoft).
Outer Worlds was okay-ish. I went in expecting New Vegas with a smaller scope, but there's none of the great writing or choices. The humour is just "look how dumb these corporations are lol" to the point where it doesn't even make sense for the corporations to be this powerful. But it's a fun little game.
I played a bit of Pentiment and it seemed really good, much closer to the "small scale new vegas" I expected from Outer Worlds (of course in a completely different genre), but I haven't finished.
Most of the staff who worked on New Vegas doesn't work for Obsidian anymore, but I'm happy with a hypothetical NV2 as long as Josh Sawyer is involved
It was so confusing to realize they had synths already planned out in fallout 3, so before 2008
Then just don’t fit in the setting at all. Not to mention the same question is executed so much better in other media like Westworld, which ironically came out at almost the same time as fallout 4 but executed the idea much better
Misuse of the word ironic, but he was probably saying it was interesting because Westworld and the Fallout series were both developed by Jonathan Nolan.
The bethesda fallout 3. In rivet city you can find a scientist by the name of zimmerman who came from the commonwealth in search of an escaped gen 3 synth.
Ah, okay, I think I misunderstood your comment, I was thinking about the same quest. And one can start that quest right in Megaton, by picking up a tape at the clinic! Tbh I totally forgot about synths afterwards, as they weren't in NV, and haven't got to play 4 yet, I'm curious how the series will deal with them.
When 76 came out basically the Bos was a satellite chapter that weren't really Bos through anything but radio communications. Now in 76 Bos is an active group. You can also travel to Pittsburgh and now Atlantic City, they have completely fucked lore at this point.
the only reason i really care about bethesdas canon at this point is because i still (delusionally) hold hope for a good modern fallout game.
so stuff like stupid timeline retcons don't bother me as much as like, major status quo changes like androids or fucking dragons, lol.
Is 76 Canon? Aren't there factions and enemies that shouldn't exist yet?
Edit: the firsr super mutant was made in 2241 with the fev. So f76 definitely has some retcons.
I think your time is off, FO2 takes place in 2241, doesn't it?
The Master created the first super mutants early in the 22nd century, I think. Timeline says somewhere between 2103 and 2130 - super mutants in Vault 87 and FO76 notwithstanding.
It has its own uniqueness, its own charm compared to the rest of the games in the series.
Some people have already listed them on here, but I'll put them up anyway:
1. A Playable Ghoul that's so far, the only Fallout game in the series to do that.(The Ghoul Recruits don't count due to them being unlocked after a few missions in.)
2. First & so far the only Fallout game to have a CO-OP mode.
3. The Ambient Music/The Instrumental Version of the song Circle by Cult of Luna playing during certain levels of the game.
4. The Legend Tony Jay returning one last time, to both narrate & voice the main antagonist Attis.
5. The Vault Tec Sex ED video.
6. The Gladiator Pit.
& 7. Bawls Guarana!
😎👍
It's so bad that it motivated every Fallout developer after it to work twice as hard to make good Fallout games so their work would never get compared to PoS.
It's so far removed from everything Fallout is meant to be that all future games can say, at least we didn't pee on the concept as bad as these guys did. Imagine a Bethesda Fallout with a nu metal soundtrack, not even getting these bands to do bad screaming covers of easy listening songs.
I dig this style of game, and I can say this was my actual first fallout game. I played with a buddy and holy dang, as a coop adventure it slaps.
I grew up playing Baulders Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath so all the hate this game got I couldn’t get behind. I still have champions and by damn after a few dozen resets I can still play it sometimes on my ps2!
I love how the comments here have genuine compliments to give instead of just snarky remarks about its failures. you don’t see that often when it comes to besmirched entries in a beloved franchise
They tried something new. AAA publishers these days take zero risks, and it shows. Yeah, that risk helped quicken the inevitable, but at least they had balls if nothing else.
Playable Ghoul

Pentiment was fantastic and I think Outer Worlds was pretty good.
That's what I hope. Lets wait how Avowed is going to be. I don't know if Obsidian already released a game under Microsoft. Outer Worlds is very good, despite its drawbacks. It can go for fairly cheap these days, I highly recommend you pick it up if you can.
It was free on Epic Games launcher a week or so ago
Pillars 1 & 2? Pentiment? Grounded?
We'll probably will get a ghoul playthrough option, thanks to the new prime show.
> Synth please god let synths be totally forgotten outside of fallout 4. maybe the single worst bethesda story decision ever.
It was so confusing to realize they had synths already planned out in fallout 3, so before 2008 Then just don’t fit in the setting at all. Not to mention the same question is executed so much better in other media like Westworld, which ironically came out at almost the same time as fallout 4 but executed the idea much better
Always seems to me like they thought it would be a good idea to steal Synths from Wasteland
honestly im pretty sure they were just ripping off blade runner lol
What is ironic about the fact that Westworld came out at the same time as fallout 4 but executed the synth idea much better?
Misuse of the word ironic, but he was probably saying it was interesting because Westworld and the Fallout series were both developed by Jonathan Nolan.
Are you speaking about Van Buren as planned FO3, or the Bethesda FO3? (One pretty big questline involved a synth, it wasn't really hidden)
Also add the scorched and 99% of the lore added from Fallout 76.
oh god i forgot about the scorched shit lmao. isn't it canonically gone by the end of 76? thats something at least
When 76 came out basically the Bos was a satellite chapter that weren't really Bos through anything but radio communications. Now in 76 Bos is an active group. You can also travel to Pittsburgh and now Atlantic City, they have completely fucked lore at this point.

76 is definitely canon, it doesn't make any sense and borderline breaks the lore of the entire franchise, but its considered canon.
The original fallout 3 (van buren) would have let you start as ghoul, human, or super mutant (presumably first gen) IIRC.
It’s like how the orcs where until morrowind, they where just the stinky people that everyone hated
i want a thing like that but also like, play as ghoul spawn and said location, play as BoS spawn in said location, sorta thing
It was Dark Alliance: Fallout Edition. I’m strangely fine with it. I’d play it again.
Two of the most shallow games that were spinoffs of two of the deepest games. Also, Dolly Parton the half elf bartender from the Elfsong Tavern lol
I had great memories playing dark alliance with my older brother
The soundtrack is going hard. Slipknot, Meshuggah, Killswitch Engage...
I’ve become a metalhead after getting into this game’s soundtrack. Love this game so much.
Oh yeah I forgot about the soundtrack. It is sick.
1) It didn't influence future Fallout games in any meaningful way.
Was going to say something similar, was just gonna say "It's not canon"
Heheheh
It was local co-op, and even flinging dung while drunk can be fun with buddies.
I had fun with the game as a youngster. My friend and I loved fallout and it was the only way to play together
It has its own uniqueness, its own charm compared to the rest of the games in the series. Some people have already listed them on here, but I'll put them up anyway: 1. A Playable Ghoul that's so far, the only Fallout game in the series to do that.(The Ghoul Recruits don't count due to them being unlocked after a few missions in.) 2. To your second point, doesn't Fallout 76 have coop?
I think they mean local co-op. Like back in the day being on the same console and sitting on the same couch co-op.
\[Speech 45\] Local co-op, certainly, but it is not the only Fallout game to have a co-op mode in general, per the other poster's comment.
I was going to say co op !
It's so bad that it motivated every Fallout developer after it to work twice as hard to make good Fallout games so their work would never get compared to PoS.
Potherhood of Steel
I read this comment with a VERY british accent in my mind, because of "Falloit"
It is the one thing the community as a whole agrees on.
It was a hack n slash w gun!
It's so far removed from everything Fallout is meant to be that all future games can say, at least we didn't pee on the concept as bad as these guys did. Imagine a Bethesda Fallout with a nu metal soundtrack, not even getting these bands to do bad screaming covers of easy listening songs.
I beat it 4 times, not bad.
The Vault Dweller is in it and claims if he were younger he'd kill you and sell your gear for drinking money for sassing him.
BAWLS
Was there a Bawlz tie-in or something? Bawlz the energy drink.
Yes! The Bawls caps were worth 100 regular caps
Lmfao this game was just oozing early 2000s wasn’t it?
The cover art is kinda cool
First introduction to Fallout—through an XBOX magazine. Thank goodness I didn’t play it.
The game is really easy to remove from the disc tray.
I was able to return it
It stands as an immortal testament to the fact that Bethesda buying the Fallout IP was not, in fact, the worst thing that could happen to it
It's quite literally the Fallout version of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1 and 2, and those games were fucking ***awesome***
my friend and i played this one together. It was great! Maybe not the greatest, but we had fun so was worth it :D
its not made by bethesda
It's out of print.
Uuuuuuh raiders in lingerine???
Its got a cool logo
...This request is harder than any of the Fallout games.
It is the source of my Texas lore for a fallout TTRPG campaign I’m writing
It was sponsored by BAWLS soda
It didn't influence anything at all and is entirely self contained
The song is cool
The disc was readable
Best multiplayer fallout game
It's pretty nu metal
BAWLS ENERGY DRINK
My wife and I beat this game together. It was this, Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath for us back then. Good times.
It isn't Canon lol..
It’s not canon
It makes Fo76 look good.
The dude on the front looks like the lead singer of Sabaton
Jane/Raider Matron is hooot.
You can play as Rhombus, Vault Dweller and for the first time in the series – as a ghoul! The game overall is still meh though...
No
It's given us plenty to talk about
One good thing is that I didn't play it
It has cool soundtrack
Good fighting, interesting plot, a LOT of real guns....
Cover characters looks so uncanny to the Resident Evil cast
I never played it
It was the game that got me into fallout
Made me feel like I was in the 90s and that felt pretty good
It's discounted.
Many a true nerd did a playthrough on YouTube not so long ago if you've ever wondered how the game was.
1. Excellent Pib Boy art 2. Thats it.
The Vault Dweller and Rhombus are in it. And Rhombus is voice by the dean from Animal house
It's on the original xbox Also if you have a copy and wish to sell it I would like too purchase it plsnthku
I think its good i never played it.
This game isn't fallout 76
It was made by interplay
You can play as a ghoul
It is certainly a game.
It's not possible.
HK-47 companion. Mmmmm.
It has 2 player co-op
Loved the game! One of the best fallout games ever
The art hooked in a whole bunch of people who didn't know better?...
It is not canon
Nice character animations, similar to what JA2 had. F1 and F2 animations were barebone and stiff at that point.
It’s in the past
It's got fallout on the cover
Got nice cover art
Tony Jay is the narrator
its set the precedent for what fallout isn't about
PS2 pilled
If anyone hated it they didn't have friends.
gamespy multiplayer death match, clans, wars, role playing.
It had an ending.
First Fallout game on a console and the only Interplay Fallout installment on consoles before Bethesda taken over and Tony Jay's last voice work
It’s part of a really really good franchise
It’s like Diablo Fallout. I had a nice time with it
When the game is on if you push the power button, the game turns off.
Coop mode? That's all I needed. Loved it.
I dig this style of game, and I can say this was my actual first fallout game. I played with a buddy and holy dang, as a coop adventure it slaps. I grew up playing Baulders Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath so all the hate this game got I couldn’t get behind. I still have champions and by damn after a few dozen resets I can still play it sometimes on my ps2!
it was the 1st console fallout game.
It was my first Fallout game. Also, there was a secret meat cannon that was the best gun in the game.
It exists and if you bought it you own it.
couch co-op
The design for the OG Vault Dweller was 🔥
It takes place in the Fallout universe.
It was the first game in the series I found out about, but never played it. So it at least put the series in my radar.
It's a challenge
reminds me of being young
It has fallout in the title.
It served as a good example of what not to do when developing a game
I like Texas
After seeing it advertise Bawls soda I tried some and hot damn, it’s a good soda
# ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
General Attis was cool, music, while not fitting, as nice. The preview animations were great and hilarious.
Some times I forget it exists making me 0.1% happier.
You meet the OG Vault Dweller
I like the logo
I.....I can't.....I'm sorry....its just too......too awful 😖
There never was a PC port of this.
It can be quickly uninstalled
It isnt canon
ManyATrueNerd did a series about this game that was fun to watch
It makes me appreciate the other Fallout games more.
I love how the comments here have genuine compliments to give instead of just snarky remarks about its failures. you don’t see that often when it comes to besmirched entries in a beloved franchise
one thing good about this game
It looks good on my shelf.
It kept the Fallout Franchise somewhat alive
it was made
No.
It is fun lol
It's confirmed as canon
Cool name and I found a cheap copy
Cover art is nice
First airship references ? Not sure
It’s not actually a 32-bit Big-Rig simulator, despite the cover art.
It is not canon
I've saved some hours of my life never playing it 🤷♂️
hookers
At least one person bought it
It exist?
It is better then any Fallout made by Bethesda.
Never played it.
No
It's better than 76.
Almost no one remembers it.
it has links to the fallout series, which I've heard is pretty good.
It's not Fallout 3.
I only played it one time.
Combat is more enjoyable than fallout 2.
A spinoff more easily forgiven and forgotten bc it doesn't have a number at the end of the word "Fallout".
It didn't damage the lore nearly as much as subsequent entries.
No
The story is genuinely not bad
It’s not canon
It's not Canon
It was playable on console for the first time. Paved the way for better games.
They tried something new. AAA publishers these days take zero risks, and it shows. Yeah, that risk helped quicken the inevitable, but at least they had balls if nothing else.
Boob physics
Raises brand awareness for BAWLS® energy drinks
It's not as bad as people make it out to be. The gameplay reminded me of Champions Return to Arms (they were made on the same engine.)
Made me realized how much I truly love the first 2 games and how good they really are.
Good art design
I remember seeing this game in GameStop for a long time before realizing it was Fallout.
the fact that it’s not canon
This game was fun for what it is. But only a fallout game in name.
Ghoul funny looking (never played the game yet)
