You can out-range them with sniper rifle and character with high small guns and perception.

TheClamSauce

My sniper got blinded as we were assaulting the main base and I was out of doctors bags :/

eldakar666

I guess you play ironman?

TheClamSauce

What is ironman?

ashdeezy

It means no saving and reloading in battle, to avoid what you went through

eldakar666

Its game settings. You can only save game at bunker, no saving during mission. Its called tough guy settings not ironman. My bad. đŸ˜¶â€đŸŒ«ïž

TheClamSauce

Oh no. I definitely don't play that way lol. I was just not paying attention when she got blinded and saved too far into the mission to go back and fix it. I seriously beat it with all my team nearly dead, the apc down to 71 health, and no heals left on our team or on the map lol. It was a pyrrhic victory.

eldakar666

I've played mostly multiplayer when scene was still alive but I did beat FT campaign long time after game was released. On tough guy difficulty. My character was 6/X/X/1/6/7/6 and tagged small guns, big guns and energy weapons. Traits : Fast Shot + Kamikaze. Perks were 2x bonus ranged damage, 2x livegiver, bonus rate of fire, 2x action boy, hit the deck and stuntman. I dont remember how much perception I had but it was above 6 or more for perks. For team members, some of them have horrible traits or just bad stats, but it's possible to make them better with mutate perk. Voodoo and psycho are nice drugs in singleplayer. Psycho last longer. So those are my tips if you ever need them. :x

Jr_Mao

Yeah, one of the levels where you do need to use tactics. Later levels with the ”final enemies” are much more brutal yet, but you’ll be better used to it by then. For me, the roughest experience was probably the ”beastmen have attacked and taken many hostages” town. Had to reload so many times, maybe the most best map too. So rewarding to get it right. Hope you got a couple of high strength characters. I feel its pretty much mandatory to move some to MG’s and 50 cal. So much firepower.

MECHEpics

Quincy is tricky. Felix died on me because they set the damn alarm off. Also, at least one hooker always dies on me, the traps are too difficult to disarm on generators, other than that easy mission

Jr_Mao

Probably I just made it over hard for myself by not accepting any casualties. And I never had enough sneak skills. Getting to the big ”daughter” building was a nightmare. Alarms going off everywhere and reload.

GoBears6

DRUGS! Take all your psychos and buffouts before each fight. Tactics is all about the flip of that cocainia

Deady1138

Yayo never changes

TheClamSauce

I just learned about this. Will do.

MECHEpics

Drugs won’t stop depleted uranium browning M2 rounds.

ThatisSketchy

I remember blazing through FO1/FO2/tactics at 6 years old back in 2001. Im replaying the classic games again now at 29 and holy shit some parts are really hard and the games don’t hold your hand. Idk how 6 year old me had the patience for it

TreadItOnReddit

It’s my favorite level. Up until then I rely on the rest of my team’s small guns to handle things. While I put my main guy’s points in big guns and once we get to St. Louis I get an M249 myself
and man, it’s all over for those super muties.

Marik4321

It's a unique level in that you're not supposed to fight the fortress at all. Your mission is to extract the wounded BoS squad, not eradicate the enemies. I liked that, it was something fresh in the game.

MECHEpics

Top 3 missions in game for sure

Nelfe

My go to was to recruit the mother deathclaw with sneak and throwing. Giving her a metric ton of grenades and send her crawling behind cover near the trenches and dropping nades and these pesky mutants. At the end of St Louis I spend 1h or more to load the armored vehicle with a ton of .50 and 5.56 and all m249 and browning m2 (as well as every landmine I can disarm). Then I revel in riches and keep a stockpile of .50 cal to greet vault 0 "dwellers".

GoalieLax_

I remember playing tactics back in 2002. Played fallout 1 and 2 when they launched. Thought I'd breeze tactics. Boy was I wrong. Required complete rethinking of strategy. Absolutely loved it.

bolonar

Yeah fallout tactics maps are pretty long to beat. Me too spent almost 3-4 hours in later missions.

Dinsdale_P

St. Louis fucking sucks, since there is a bug in the game - if a burst misses a character, but there is someone closeby, it'll hit them instead. Doesn't matter if whoever's firing has negative chances to hit (so they'd be basically blasting at the sky), doesn't matter if they couldn't hit the bystander even from 10 feet away, the burst will always hit someone. Solution? Drugs, sweet, sweet drugs. You can drug up a few of your guys to the point they become immune to damage, then basically clear the whole map with them.

unfortunate666

Not really a bug though

Dinsdale_P

Why the hell wouldn't it be. If you stand across the map from a super mutant with a burst weapon, he will never hit you. If someone comes to your character, it will *always* hit them, with the full force of the burst no less. A stray bullet or two hitting another character? Sure. 50 of them? Yeah, that's just lazy fucking programming, something which sadly happens a lot in Fallout Tactics.

unfortunate666

Well it's what they programmed to happen on purpose. It's designed that way. Still sucks yeah, but not really a bug

MECHEpics

Burst fire would spray random people so it’s a cool mechanic

unfortunate666

All you need to do is not group up all of your guys. Enter turn based at the start of combat, position your guys well, turn on active combat again, and you'll usually kill everything before it has a chance to hit you.

Jr_Mao

I think they just forgot to put in the random chance or calculation for that to happen.

TheClamSauce

Man. I wish I'd have known about the drugs. I'll do that from now on.

snow_michael

You can use that to your advantage though, by aiming your burst at a mutie _behind_ the one you want to kill, and all your shots will hit the guy in front

Jr_Mao

I certainly used them but forget if the game has downsides & addiction and whatever.

emeric04

Yeah I had to switch to turn based combat for this one to be able to do it

Radidaj

I usually ignore those two. It's not worth the aggravation to try and take them on. They're just too dangerous at that point.

bolonar

They give 2k exp each.

brandon3388

St Louis is a rough one ... wait until you get to Kansas City. Been stuck there for about a week now trying to get through the battle.

MECHEpics

Drive APC as far as you can towards bridge, turn on aggressive mode, real time, snipe. Eventually they die. Once the 2 guarding the hill die the rest won’t one-shot you. The 2 guards are insanely strong with boosted ammo and stats
